This has never been tested on a Tegra 3 device, so I would appreciate some feedback here - is it working!?

Anything to report?

Where can we use it for?

Eh? Im not sure i understand...

Just installed it, amazing app, i was actually looking for something like this yesterday! I wanted a way to lock my screen while watching movies so I wouldn't exit fullscreen mode accidentally.
Thanks!

Great! Any suggestions?

What would be some good other uses for this besides movies?

Downloading now. I imagine this ould be used to block palm detection for drawing like on Sketchbook Pro and the sort. I'll edit this after a review. Thanks for the opportunity.

What? Palm detection? I think it will only work on a few devices...

I wish I could use this for the soft keys on the navigation bar. It would really help cause I'm left handed (I keep hitting the back/home keys by mistake when I'm writing on my Prime).

OK after using it today, i found it pretty straightforward and simple to use.
Found only one small bug, when playing a video, on YouTube, stock player or whatever, if you touch the screen the on-screen controls jump on, you cannot press them, but the UI do popup.
And one suggestion, the resizeable square where you select the zone to be blocked from touches should have at least a small pad or something to drag it. Once the square reaches the borders it gets really hard to pick again.

On the latest ICS update. Go to settings/ASUS customized settings/system bar lock/enable system bar lock. Now you won't hit the home key or any softkey buttons.

I don't think it can be used for that. You could use TouchScreenTune app, paid version can handle palm detection on our device.

This app is for blocking areas of the screen.

[APP][UPDATED Updated 26/01/2010] PLToggle - Toggle screen rotation

I made this program in answer to a request in the HD2 General forum, but thought I should post it here.
It's a small app that toggles the display orientation back and forth to the rotation of your choice, without the need for the g-sensor.
The default installation includes the settings screen (available from your start menu), and the application itself, which is available via a long-hold of the call button. When the application is first installed, it defaults to standard landscape (the left of the phone being the bottom), but this can be changed via the settings screen.
BIG THANKS!! to vonski and Eldorado9 for their patience and testing. Thanks guys
Have fun
Note:
Manila doesn't like being forced into landscape, so you can't use this app for that - sorry. It works upside-down, just not sideways. (I've got a HD2 with Sense/Manila 2.5)
Also, I've only tested this on a WVGA device and would like to know how it works on other resolution devices, so please feel free to private message me with any feedback regarding this.
Change details (26/01/2010)
Removed the long_send link that was originally being installed in the Windows folder.
For some reason, when you press the call button to answer a call, it executes the long_send link, despite only being a quick send.
This only happens when there's an incoming call. I've removed this link from the installer, but you still execute the toggle with a long-hold of the call button.
NOTE: The installer will remove the long_send link from your windows folder.
Change details (13/01/2010)
Added the settings screen so there's now only 1 installer, instead of 3.
If you do have the previous version, you can simply delete it from the windows folder, or just leave it and install this one.
It will override the existing version's functionality, despite being able to install it on your storage card now.
Great Job!
John,
Great job and thanks for this. First thing that comes to mind is why did you not combine these into one programme so one can have the option to go left, right or upside down without having to install 3 separate apps?
If its not difficult to do and you can spare the time to do it then I would be very interested in a single combined app that I could run off my quicklinks.
I'm subscribing to this thread to watch developments.
Thanks again.

It actually is 1 program, but the shortcut (long_send) is different in each zip file, and that tells the app which direction to rotate the display.
This started because someone asked for an app that would put their display in landscape and then back again, with a long-hold on the call button. After I'd done that for them, someone else asked for the opposite direction. Whilst doing that I remember that someone had once asked how to change the display to upside-down, so I did that at the same time.
The main idea here is that you pick a default rotation, and then you only have a button press to toggle it on and off. Anything more than that would require a UI and therefore more interaction, and since I'm trying to keep interaction to a minimum, that sort of goes against the principle of it.
I'll have a think about it though, but I think what you're suggesting is a completely different application. I'm not against doing that, but it won't be part of the development of this.
Thanks for the suggestion mate
Ah ok, I see. Also understand the "minimalist" philosophy behind the development.
The way I would use a programme like this would be to have it as a quicklink on my front screen (I tend not to link things to hardware buttons) which would then give me the options of (L)eft, (R)ight or (U)pside Down. If that requires a UI (I guess it does) then don't go to all that trouble.
The problem with me is I don't always rotate my device the same way all the time (I'm weird like that) although upside down is a new one on me (I remember Tubgirl, I think, asking for that).
Cheers anyway.
WB
Very nice....it's much more convenient than using BSBTweaks and shaking it... Thanks!
Just a quick question:
I use the Standard Windows Hardware Button Assignment and mapped my internet browser button with "rotate Screen"...
now here for the question: Is it possible to write that app for other buttons too? 'cause i'd love to have multifunction on my browser button and your app is almost perfect for it^^ short press = Opera, long hold = rotate... that would be SO AWESOME!!!!
btw: your app is great as it is now.... it's just a question^^

I think to do what you've suggested, you'd need something like AEButtons. I've never used it myself, but I believe you can assign different actions for long and short button presses to hardware buttons.
Hope this helps

You'll need to look at other software for that. Try AEButtons. It's not something I use myself, but I believe it will do what you want.

[APP] zMooth use gestures to replace hardware keys

zMooth works on nook's with rooted android 2.2+.
zMooth lets you use gestures to mimic your device's hardware keys (back, home, menu and power(in Pro)), you will be able to use very intuitive gestures to navigate your device.
zMooth is unobtrusive and uses minimum amount of screen space but very easy and intuitive to use. If you use for couple of days you won't even think about using the buttons.
After you install the app you will see a blue area at the bottom of the screen, swipe left on this area to go back, swipe right for menu, gesture a up-arrow(^) for home and gesture a lightning strike/thunderbolt to power off. Please check the screen shots and video for more info.

Support is built-in to the app, "Preferences->Help" will resolve most issues. If not resolved just contact me through "Preferences->Help->Contact Support" and I will be happy to resolve any issues.
Thanks.
it works, its kinda cool but being able to move the gesture area would be great
Can you provide screenshot of your nook, never tested on it so was wondering on how it looks.

Really awesome application. I'm the kind who can't stand having soft buttons popping out by the side. This works wonderfully for me. Didn't know how to use it at first though. There should be a quick guide in this app without having to connect to the internet to view the FAQ.
However, with that said, this is still awesome. Love it.
WOW! I'd say I spend about 1/1000th of my time on XDA in the themes and apps section...Now..in one day..the sense icons for settings..the honeycomb style softkeys are here (which are awesome..but now obsolete IMO...because of THIS! this is EPIC!)...It took me about 1 minute to get so comfortable w this that I completely hid my dockbar and statusbar...Now I have ALLmy screen real estate, except for a thin blue line at the bottom of my screen that does it all. This is going straight on my EVO...and I'd bet you start seeing something like this on factory releases or at least as an option. A very simple yet brilliant idea. It actually makes me feel a little bit sad for Murdock...he accomplished so much for CM7 in SO little time..and now this comes along.TRY this NOW.

It's OK but interferes with stuff on the bottom - there should be an option to move the swiping area. Also, it doesn't always register touches.
Wow!!!
Sounds awesome, i'm trying this straight away
Looks like I won't be having to double click my home screen button anymore
+1 for being able to move the swipe area. I don't like gestures over my dock.
Yeah, I Sent an Email
to the developers to enable the gesture area to be moved - until the app is useless and will probably get hammered on ratings in the market. I'm giving it one star until they do this.

You don't Even NEED to use the launcher's dock...that's why there's an option for losing it under a launcher's settings....Eliminate the dock...Put a shortcut or action butons to whatever you want on either side of the "thin blue line", and you're golden. The gesture area can be adjusted to where its about a third of the size of a dockbar anyway, so I don't really understand that issue...I set my swipe options to hide/unhide my notification bar (which now lives at the top)..so my end results look like these before and after shots: From A to B to C....Who likes C?

Moving of swipe area is under development in Pro version. I wanted to make the moving very intuitive/configurable so it's taking time.

Awesome app, got the pro verison. Keep up the good work.
1 bug to report. When modifying the display of the bar, values seem to constantly reset when going into the sliders, though the physical bar won't change itself until you return. You might want to make the sliders default to the currently set points when entering the screen.

I get what you are saying, but it's a to each his own thing. Maybe some people REALLY like their docks. I actually do hide my dock, but I don't want to have to do all of my gestures on the bottom of the screen. I already use gestures in ADW. Swipe up for notifications (notification bar on the bottom), swipe down for my app drawer. I would like to use this app for side to side gestures, and preferably I would like the gestures to take place somewhere in the center.
..and windroidHD, just to be clear. Your app is awesome. I would just like to see the additional functionality. It sounds like you're on top of it, and I gladly await the arrival of a pro version that will allow me to move the swipe area.
regarding why it's at the bottom of the screen to start with...
Why not left?. because when you think about back, intuition is to swipe back, if gesture area is on left side then you can't swipe left as your finger will move out of screen and gesture can't be recognized.
Why not right?, same as above but for menu.
Why not top?, If it's at the top then your hand has to obstruct the screen and do a gesture at the top of screen, this breaks the visual link of your eyes with screen.
Google knew that they made a mistake with android hardware buttons, that's why honeycomb has fewer hardware buttons and soft buttons at the bottom.
The "standard" way of designing in android seems to be let user configure everything and figure out the layout of app, that to me is absolute crap. Developer has to think what makes most sense and let the user not worry and do trial and error out the position of gesture area.
That said, I don't have nook so I don't know the general workflow on it. Configuration of position still under development.

Gestures for multitasking?

I dont know if this is possible within the framework of Honeycomb, but I was wondering if I was possible to add gesture control using a root-access app?
Personally, I'm only looking for one feature: WebOS style task switching. I love the way Honeycomb multitasks, but I wish I could just swipe up from the bottom of the screen (starting on the bezel below the screen) and have it open up Honeycomb's app switcher. For reference, WaveLauncher implements similar WebOS-lite utility with a similarly implemented gesture implementation.
And just for the hell of it, I think it would be great if there could be an option to open the task switcher horizontally across the middle of the screen. I know I know, "Go buy a touchpad!" I'm just saying I think it would be awesome, and I'm certain others would think so too.

there's this app call dock4droid. you can find it in the market. some member post about this app some time ago here. I am using that app now. it works great.you can choose to put it on left/right top or down, anywhere you like. it will show recent app, and you can customize what app to appear on that dock.
sorry for my poor explanation. download it and have a try, it should fits what you want. I think. There's a free version of it.
p/s : i never touch the multitask button ever since i used this app it's kinda lag for me
I am I afraid there is no good solution, and each app that overlay your screen like this one will make your tablet lag :-(

I was thinking more along the lines of an individual button next to the task switcher. It's surprising how much quicker & intuitive things feel when there is only one action needed to be performed (one swipe, one button press, etc.).
Anyway, I'm just sorta spitballin' in this thread. I've been using an Android phone for over a year now, and my tablet for a few months, and I still haven't been able to get over missing WebOS style multitasking. That's not to say I'm dogging on Android's, it works well, it's just not the absolute best.

The home button
This is a great idea, but may only be possible on rooted phones with custom ROMs. I am going to look into an implementation that does not toll performance or battery. Perhaps a simple widget at the bottom of the home screen? Then again that would require going home first, making the widget redundant.

So exactly like the blackberry Playbook... that's exactly what it does ... swipe from bezel to open multitasking
The only thing I miss from IOS is ACTIVATOR.
So many options.
You could hook any action/gesture to any app.
It was awesome.
Sometimes is cumbersome to hit the home button located at the bottom when I'm holding the tab with both hands on the sides.
Would pay money for an activator equivalent.

Yes, and just like the TouchPad/WebOS.
A swipe gesture from the bezel is inherently easier than almost any other single input option because when holding the tablet there is at least one digit within an extreme proximity to the bezel & screen. I would say over 90% of my usage patterns are with me holding the tablet in at least one hand, and a large majority of me holding it with both hands. In my case, gestures like that are accessible from any direction and any side of the screen, and would be superior than having to click a 20x20 pixel button in a single location that isn't near either of the places where my hand naturally holds the tablet.
Again, for other people their usage patterns may dictate a better option. I just happen to think most people use their tablets in a manner similar to mine, which would make these gestures extremely useful.

What would be the use of that? D:
An app that makes it possible to run mobile webapps full screen, kind of like the way the latest chrome beta can do, but for any site.
An keepass app with synchronization built in, and on top of that an internal Web browser, so you can have actions like "copy password" and "copy username" right there. Kind of the way 7 pass does it (on Windows Phone)
Nanaca crash, a simple flash game where the object is to throw a person as far as you can, kind of like "hit crazy frog" kind of game but a hit more advanced. Requires just one button so that would be perfect for Android smartphones.

Oh that's not what I understood. I guess the idea would work if the processing was quick enough and the picture high resolution enough. But front facing cameras are none of the above.
Thanks for your current suggestions, let me see more !

I have an App Request too
An On-Screen Floating Object-Oriented Toolbar, with Back, Home, Menu, & Directional keys, + additional keys depending on active screen or current app
including a 'cycle-through elements' button then hit enter on the one you want to activate
things that can be done with your thumb from one small location.
then tap & hold contracts it into a smaller set of buttons
and you can select the number of buttons & their default positions for both the expanded state and the compacted state.
so it could be used to navigate around programs, select different elements, or used as a game controller, or keypad enhancement, or enhanced navigation etc

Problems with trackpad app - miui11

Hi there,
I am using an app called trackpad on my poco f1 which is running on Miui 11 Global 11.0.6.0. This app is not so popular (i think). But it is an awesome app. After using it for a while now it changed how i use my phone. Basically what it does is, it brings up a cursor just like a mouse pointer on screen and we can move it around and tap anywhere on screen from the bottom part of the screen itself so we dont have to try and reach our fingers to the top. I was using this app on miui10. But when i updated my device to miui11 a weird issue is happening. There is a tracer to the cursor. This tracer is a temporary coloured trail that follows the cursor wherever it go (purely for aesthetics). But now when i dismiss the cursor this trail is not completely going away. It persists as a faded trail on screen. It goes away when the screen is switched off and turned back on. I tried to contact the devoloper and they are not replying and there is no app update till now. I know this may be an app related issue and probably not related to the device. I dont know if i can ask this here. But if anybody have any solution it will be really helpful as i cannot find any other good alternative for this lifesaver app.
I am attaching a screen recording. Thanks in advance.
The trail is from the app itself as I saw in the reviews. I'm the developer of Quick Cursor, an alternative to Reachability Cursor and Trackpad. You can try Quick Cursor and see if it suits your needs.

Usually the trail disappears after a second...there is an option for tweaking it too. But now it disappears but leaves a faded mark on the screen permanently until the screen is turned off.
Going to try Quick cursor
Thank you.

Hi.... i've been using your app for a while now...... its a solid app.... very good job..... trackpad can be completely replaced by quick cursor...... i've some suggestions as well.
1. Can you make the tracker more dynamic? What i meant is, as per now the distance between track pad and tracker is fixed. It would be good if the tracker can flow freely in the direction of movement. So that we can easily reach more area without lifting the finger much.
2. Because of the nature of the app, providing limited time trial with full features would be a great idea than providing free app with limited features. Because currently, the users trying out this new app have no idea about the full capability of the app like gesture control and customisable triggers and trigger area. It would be more appealing in my opinion. (Only my opinion ?)
Any way good job brother..... Keep up the good work. All the best for your effort.

I don't understand exactly how do you want this to work.

Sorry for the delay in replying. What i meant is, using this app, while moving the cursor vertically upwards, the distance between tracker and cursor remains fixed. i have to lift my thumb all the way up to the middle of the screen to touch the tracker. I dont know any technical side of it, but what i am suggesting is when moving upward try to move the cursor 'more in distance' corresponding to the tracker so that the user can still use the tracker at the bottom of the screen itself. I hope you understand what i said. (Sorry for my bad English). I think trackpad had this feature if I remember correctly.
Thank you.
