Hey all. I'm trying to move all my text messages to my computer WITHOUT using any sort of third party app. I literally want to connect to my computer, move the folder, encrypt and be done. That said, where are the message files stored? I use GOsms, and I found the gommssms.DB file, but from what I saw, this is just the code for how the messages are processed. Where are the actual text messages? And are they in plain text? Thanks in advance for the help.

There should be an option to put them on your SD card somewhere in GOSMS. Not sure where though, been awhile since I've used it.
In gosms
Menu/services/SMS b&r
There you can choose to save in your sd card as xml or some other format
Worked perfectly. Thanks a lot man. I've been trying to figure that out for a while.

Wondering if anyone can help me out... I backed up my text messages with Ti Pro like I have done many times before ( Back up [SMS/MMS/APN]). I usually don't have any trouble restoring my text messages by simply restoring from TI Pro and rebooting. However, This is my first install of Vanilla AOSP VooDoo and when I restore/reboot the messages are cleared, but not restored. Any ideas? Do I need to move the database to a different location? Thanks in advance for the help!
P.S. I'm coming from DJ05 to Vanilla AOSP
I've never trusted TiBu with my SMS or call logs, so I wouldn't know. BUT, you can try reverting back to the ROM you were just on, restoring, then using an app called "SMS Backup & Restore", free on the market. It will backup SMS to an XML file on your SD Card. Then flash back to AOSP and use the same app to restore from file.
Maybe not the answer you were looking for but it's a solid work-around.

Ty for the suggestion! Any other ideas out there? Bump

No other ideas then? It would be interesting to know what went wrong since it will probably apply to cm7 and minuit and the like

If the messages were backed up from the touchwiz mms app, then that's the only app that they are going to restore to.
Email attachments. If i receive an email with a .jpg I get a 'download' option with it so I can save it on my sd card...but any other file types...pdf, mp3 I don't get any option to save. I tried opening an email with an mp3 attachment in the email client, maildroid and gmail app and only in gmail app did I get a 'preview' button..but that only gave the option of previewing with OfficeSuite and one other program not capable of playing mp3's.
Is this a 'feature' of android that you can't just save an attachment?
I find with yahoo I can save all my attachments, it creates its own SD file and places them there. Have you tried 'download all files' apk? Its free on market and should be able to convert attachments to store correctly on SD card. It worked for me with a few zip files I wanted to save to SD.

I have been searching for way to make an apk file. I am currently using titanium back up to retrieve my apps. But I want the ability to send an actually apk to another individual. I tried changing the the extension through my file explorer but that didn't work. Any suggestions or answers? I hope this isn't a noob question. Thanks.

You can use https://market.android.com/details?...sMSwyLDEsImNvbS5idW1wdGVjaC5idW1wZ2EiXQ..bump
However, the recipient has to have bump installed too to receive apps.

Bump will just send the market link. I think what u want is to send paid apps to friends which I'm not sure is possible

Well not necessarily paid apps. For example. My friend has the Motorola Droid razor (not rooted) but wishes he still had his car home app. I currently have this app installed (ICS by neobuddy) and I want to package the app into an apk so I can send it to him.

Just upload it to a Dropbox account and he can get on via his phone or PC and download it. Or pull a copy of your APK out of either /system/app or /data/app and put it on your SD card. Plug your card into his computer or phone and pull it off, install and Bam!! there it is.
I have tried sending APKs through gmail and it won't do it b/c gmail won't allow executables to be sent (whole virus protection thing and all-so i guess it is a good thing).
Worst case scenario, you upload it here, he logs on and pulls it off but beware of uploading paid apps as you will be banned. Your call.
I send apk files through gmail quite often. I use astro to make a backup, then send it through astro using the gmail app.
Thank you for the help. Really appreciate it.

I used to be able to use Astro file explorer to view images. I would then long press an image and tap share/send and choose message. It would then convert the image to mms and I could send it to someone. Now the option to send the image via message has disappeared no matter what file explorer I use. It gives me option to share with Facebook, instagram, email etc but no mms.
I don't remember exactly when this happened but I believe it happened after I got ICS. I've tried with various file explorers and none allow me to send images via mms.
I'm able to do it with the Gallery but not with 3rd party file explorers.
I'm on Evo 3D with Android 4.0.3 and Sense 3.6
Any ideas?

Bump.
So everyone else can do this but me?
So I have finally figured out how to extract contacts from an SBU file, convert it to vCard and then import them into my phone.
Here is the wonky part.
When I click on the contacts button, it only shows my phone having 12 contacts in my phone. BUT when I click over to "Groups" under "My Contacts, there are all my contacts that I have recently restored.
Now I have tried playing around with Wondershare, and a few other programs, but I want all my contacts in one place. Not having to swtich tabs to make this work. How can I copy them from "My Contacts" to the phone itself so I can see them all easily? I am so close to having all my contacts restored, this is the final step!
Please help!!! Thanks in advance!~

No, but I will once I can solidify all my contacts into one area.
There is a real fast safe way to restore contacts through it. I have nandroid backups for every rom. I use tbu and go into extract from nandroid, choose the rom, check the "contact storage" box, choose data only and restore it, reboot and they are all there, full size pictures and all.

I simply connected via Kies air and edited them all manually. Slow day at work so at least I got something done. Lol
