Galaxy Player or Galaxy wifi 5.0? - Samsung Galaxy Player 4.0, 5.0

Hello..
I wanna buy an Galaxy player or Galaxy wifi..
But i have 2 questions:
1:Galaxy player, have 800x480 rez and wifi 480x800?Who is better for gaming?
2: is it good for games?or mby i buy an ipod 4 for games?

Hello.galaxy player=galaxy wifi
If i'm not wrong then they are the same... I prefer the Galaxy, because it has got a big screen and the games look very nice on it.

Nope, the Galaxy Player have another rez ..
Have u found any game who dosen't run?

what's the difference between 800x480 and 480x800? aren't they the same? one puts length over width vs width over length only as far as i can see it. the difference between the 2 is that the player has full capacitive menus while the galaxy wifi has a physical home button.
or maybe you are pertaining to the player 4.0 vs the wifi 5.0...

Tere are 2 versions of them... USA and europian version... The USA has 3 capacitive buttons while the europian version has a physical home button

Each country call this device different. But it's a same device.
My country(Thailand) called "Samsung Galaxy Player 5.0"

Hello Roby!
I'll try and answer your questions with as much detail as possible.
1.) The two devices are the same with the 800 x 480 resolution
The resolution looks pretty fantastic for what it is in most games
3D games are noticably lower quality than the iOS equivalent versions (due to the graphic chip in the Galaxy Player being a bit weaker), but games still look great!
Screen is bright and colorful for gaming (with ample battery life!)
2.) The Galaxy Player 5 is fantastic for gaming in my opinion (I've owned one since around launch).
It can play many 3D games perfectly (MC3, DS, O&C, Avatar, and more!)
If you use Chainfire3d, you can bump up the AA to 4xMSAA for better quality 3D gaming.
SD Card allows more room and options for gaming than on an iPod
Though I'd prefer a Galaxy Player, graphics look BETTER on the iPod Touch 4th Generation
I'd recommend the Galaxy Player overall. I have both the iPT4 and the Galaxy Player 5 and rarely use the iPod for more than Temple Run + Music.

gaming and video purposes which one?

hi guys, i just want to know which one will be better.
the galaxy10.1
ipad2
or tranformer?
my purpose is for gaming purposes and for watching video and photo scrolling.
not on design, web browse, or what i can do with the unit just the 3 purpose i want.
ty guys
The ipad2 would be superior for your needs.
There are far more quality games and apps for the ipad2 then there are for android tablets. Not only that but the ipad2 has less issues playing different types of video formats.
There is no reason to be purchasing an android tablet if all you want to play game and watch videos. Ipad2 is light years ahead for gaming.
i see, ill take that as added reference in me. tnx bro
does ipad2 has better screen quality watching movies than android?

Depends which android tablet. The xoom uses a junk low quality screen. The transformer and tab10 have screens just as good as ipad.
Although who knows what ICS will bring us in terms of gaming when it's released and when we get the update.
The widescreen format of the Tab 10.1 makes it superior to iPad in watching movies. Movie compatibility can be overcome with software.
Na, ipad2 is still superior for what he wants to do. FAR superior actually. The games available for android tablets are a complete joke compared to the games for ipad2. Not only that but the GPU in ipad2 is far superior to tegra 2.

How is the YP-GB70? Worth it? Thinking about getting the YP-GB70D

I was wondering if the new Galaxy Player 70 Plus (YP-GB70D) is worth getting from all people that own in.
I've been thinking about getting a PMP/MP3 player of late & read about the new GP70 (YP-GB70D) that was recently released. I was wondering if the older version (YP-GB70) its worth getting? I do currently have an AT&T Galaxy Note & prefer not to use it as a media player even though I could.
I was wondering if it's worth getting since I can get it for $330ish from http://www.exportprive.com/en/samsu...-70-yp-gb70-galaxy-s-wifi-50-32go-blanc-.html

I considered the 5.0 but didn't like it cause of the 8GB since the new one has a 32GB version. I know I can add a microSD card on both but I prefer as much as possible for the internal memory.

For some reason... this looks like it could potentially be a scam. A new one was announced, but I would NOT trust that retailer from a first glance. I mean look at it, they say on that site that it has a 3mp front cam? Doubt it.

I have bought numerous items from them in the past so they are legit. I wonder if its a misprint on the camera. thanks for making me research further on it.
EDIT: after further research this isn't the new one I was after.
EDIT2: Found the correct version Yp-GB70D
http://www.exportprive.com/en/samsu...s-yp-gb70d-multimedia-player-32gb-white-.html
So no one with the Galaxy 5 wifi YP-G70 can tell me if they are worth it or not? if they are then I plan to get the new released Korean version.
If you care about Android development and want more of a variety of roms to choose from then I'd choose the Galaxy S I9000. If you don't mind the fact that the Galaxy Player doesn't come with SAMOLED screen and a lot activity in the development section, then go for it.

The international version isn't that much different from the US version. Plus can you really justify paying that much for an outdated MP3 player when you can just purchase a dual core device with better development for less in the market?

Yah, if I'm going to spend that much then it will be for the newly dual core version (YP-GB70D). Actually, I just put in an order for the newly Korean released YP-70D, but started to get buyers remorse after seeing the final price with 2-3 international shipping.
Hopefully someone will start dev'n for the YP-70D in the future.

CONS:
The 5MP camera on GB70D totally sucks, because it's omap chip. Compared to 70GB Korean model (which has 5MP camera too) the colours are washed out, the focus is not sharp and the video is a joke. You can't set saturation, brightness etc. The video app can't pause now.
With current firmware (as of April 2012) it can not play most of the 720p videos smoothly (quite a joke for a media player).
The battery seems to be drained faster then original model.
There's not included offline 3d navigation iNavi, as was the case with previous model.
The display is not as bright as before and the colours are not correct (yellow hue).
The display still lags, in some HD videos it's quite bad.
In direct sun the display is still dark.
It has the same videochip as before, PoverVR SGX540. Some games run better, but many of them look the same or don't run at all. It definitely is not a device for 3D HD games.
Wakeup is remarkably slower now (sometimes 3 seconds).
The default sound app still sucks.
It's made in China, the previous model was made in Korea.
As for the white design, I like the original black/white design more.
PROS:
The dualcore does it's job, especially if you run torrents or other downloads in background and browse the web in foreground. It's fast.
1GB of memory is a significant upgrade.
The UI and fonts seem to be a bit smoother.
Conclusion:
It's faster. Soon there would be custom ROMs and upgrades as there are for the previous model, so many things will be fixed. But the camera sucks and the videochip is the same. So something is wrong, this was supposed to be a multimedia device.
Note: I could compare three models, all Korean versions.

Would you buy this model again or another if you had the chance to do it over again? If another, which device.
Could you compare the 5.0 series with the YP-GB70D? Just curious on your opinion of them.
I would not buy it. Omap cameras suck, that's what cheap LG devices use. Also the omap dualcore in GB70D isn't the same as exynos or tegra. As for 5.0 series, it's the same as Korean GB70, except Korean GB70 has 5MP camera (good one!) and DBM TV.
I would buy Galaxy Note instead, even if you don't need a phone. I think Samsung now goes the way Apple did before Steve Jobs returned. Too many products, in the end none of them done properly. Just look how many Galaxy Tabs are there now. It's a joke.

If you're talking about an Int Galaxy Note, I had one & sold it. I'm currently using an AT&T Galaxy Note. I seriously thought the new version of the SGP would be awesome with dual core, hence my reason in wanting one.
Since I was able to cancel my YP-GB70D 32GB order, I'm either going to find a cheap alternative or just buy more batteries for my I717. I would save a ton if I went with more batteries route.
Hmmm this is interesting... I haven't had any of these issues with my YP-GB70D. I don't use the camera on it however. I've only used the front facing camera with Skype and haven't had any complaints from the other end.
I just got a used GP70+ (YP-GB70D). I am quite disappointed with it - the major problem is the Adobe Flash performance of videos played in the web browser.
The GP70+ has flash 10.3 installed. Since Flash player is no longer available in Google Play, I use backup copies from my other phones and tablets and .apks from apktop. Flash 11 does NOT work - either causes force closes, or start playing and freezes. I installed the last version of Flash 10 before 11 (10.3.186.7), and it can only play up to 480p video - NO HD Flash, that completely freezes.
This is really unacceptable for a dual core OMAP4430 device. My GP5.0 and the Galaxy S phone has a single core Hummingbird CPU. It has Flash 11.1 and can play up to 720p Flash video in the browser.
The device also feels a little sluggish for a dual core tablet, even when using GO Launcher. It has a 800 x 480 screen, which is lower resolution than eg. Kindle Fire (which also has OMAP4430), the GPU drives fewer pixels and everything should be faster.
The screen is also not as bright and crisp as the GP5.0, not to mention the AMOLED screen of the Galaxy S or S2.
One big plus is that 1080p STORED videos (MP4, DIVX) play flawlessly with MX player - MX player shows that hardware decoding is enabled. HW acceleration is NOT supported in the single core GP5.0, and it can only play up to 720p (some not all, depending on bitrate).
P.S. By the way, if any GP70+ owners want a copy of the rooted firmware of this player (GB70KRLD2), please post your request here or PM me (I don't want the upload link to be killed quickly). I searched high and low and finally found it in a Chinese forum (Google Translate saves the day!). Thank goodness it was still good for download.

Well I just hope that it is not the Android story all over again - rushed to get implemented, years to improve.

Whats the main limitation(s) for the S3s gaming capability?

Good evening ladies and gents.
I'm about to jump off the fence and buy a new phone (and since I'm posting here I guess you've figured that I'm seriously considering the S3). But before I choose I want to know which games I can expect to be able to play. I stumbled onto the Tegra Zone a few months after I bought my Desire HD and was quite disappointed that it didn't support the content. I know the S3 doesn't have Tegra but stil a lot of the games are still supported/available.
I've now read through dozens of threads but I'm unable to find out how one figures out which games the S3 can run. In some cases I see thats it's just the "ultra high" setting that isn't supported (1. is this correct?). 2. Is there a different version of most games that are meant for non-Tegra devices or is it the exact game but some of which lack the highest graphics settings? Lastly: 3. Are there any games that S3 owners won't be able to play in the foreseeable future?
I would really appreciate input to any of my questions. Have a good day/night
It runs Mali-400 games and if you decide to Root just install Chainfire 3D and you can run most Tegra and any other games.
Gaming is very good. Thats all i have to say
Sorry i couldnt be of more help.
Have u tried looking on the playstore? With a friends phone or on the web page. Google searched? There is a thread about good ganes in the s3

S3 can play anything but Tegra3 Specific games, there is an app made by Chainfire it's called "Chainfire3D" where it emulates all different graphic chips in the market, so basically you can play all non-tegra and tegra games that aren't Tegra3 specifc as mentioned above. The app needs root in order to work. Dead trigger is the latest game to come out and it plays VERY nice and smooth. Shadowgun tegra2 version works, Pinball THD, Fruit Ninja THD, NBA Jam works nice PES2011, Blood and Glory work pretty well... I'm not much into gaming, those are the games I own, and I can say they are the ones that will hammer the CPU and GPU pretty good. I'm not sure what you mean with "ultra high settings" everything works. remember that the screen size is 1280x800 so some games that are made for smaller screen will have black bars or some cropping or some weird behavior, but I've only seen that on "time killer" games, can't recall which game was that showed this behavior, but still playable.
Hope that straight things out a bit for you.
Chain fire helps with some tegra games but it's not perfect eg sonic 4 ep 2 lags like treacle and some tegra games don't work at all. However the graphics hardware in the gs3 is the fastest in the world for a smartphone so there's a lot of potential. But tbh gaming without hardware buttons is pretty crap anyway.

Thank you all for your replies.
I had already read through the post you mentioned slking1989 but even though it assured me that a lot of quality games are supported it didn't give me a definite answer regarding how to determine beforehand if a game will run or not (like "system requirements" or similar). I'm guessing the reason HQ games doesn't show up in the Play store on my current phone is that it doesn't support themn thus it's no points showing them but since I don't have the phone yet I wanted to do some research.
My choice is between the S3 and the HOX but after your replies the S3 was pushed further ahead in the race (only kept back by the insecurity around Tegra games really). Now I just have to decide which color to get.
This may help u decide

Which Galaxy Player is best?

My sister really wants a pocketable music player/camera/ of some kind. Mom won't get her a phone and is therefore considering an iPod touch, even though my sister shares my hatred of apple products. All said, an android PMP would be perfect for her.
No, an old phone without cellular access would not be ok, my mom... its easier not to try to explain, she just isn't ok with that. =P
So, I went to look up the Samsung Galaxy Players (as the only android PMPs i know are Samsung and Archos, and the Archos ones look disappointing) and i found there were no complete/reliable spec sheets anywhere on the internet >_< information was either vague (EG unspecified 1 GHz processor) or conflicting.
I'm looking between the Galaxy players 4.0, 4,2, and 5.0.
Which is better? screen size and internal storage do not matter as much as screen resolution, RAM, CPU, and SD card. I'm looking to get the best one i can buy at this point, not the best bang-for-your-buck one.
also, i found this device on GSMArena:
http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_player_70_plus-4633.php
Anyone know anything about it?
As i said, there's not much on the internet about the galaxy players. Any help from you guys would be appreciated
NOTE: yes, i consider a 5" screen pocketable. So does my sister. A 7" tablet (EG nexus 7), however, is not, so that's not an option.
They all suffer from lack of RAM at this point. Maybe you should wait for a new model to be released...if they ever release one. Personally I like the 5.0 because of its screen size, and that's about it. As a PMP they all work fine. In terms of processing power the 4 and 5 are the same, not sure about the 4.2. both the 4 and 5 are SD Card expandable, again not sure about the 4.2. Lastly, that device you linked to looks very promising. Kinda like a Galaxy Player 5.0 2! I hadn't even heard of it until you. To sum it all up, They all work well as PMP's, and they all perform pretty similarly. That 70+ looks way better than any of the previous models, so if you could get your hands on that, go for it.
-arceusg
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1720457 All specs are here. However I say the 4.0 is the best because it's more the all rounder PMP player, but the 5.0 has more custom roms. All the spec sheets for all galaxy player are found on Samsung's site. You click tech specs, and then hit the PDF file above.
Do you only want "Android only" players, because there are some other good ones too. The Sony Walkman Z is also android only and is dual core. You can try looking at the Cowon J3, or D3. But I would wait because Samsung is probably going to release a new Galaxy Player. That Device you linked is the Galaxy Player 70 Plus. It is Samsungs first dual core player, but it was only released in Korea. It is based of the Galaxy S2, similar to how the Galaxy player 4.0 is similar to the GS1.
It would be best to wait for the upcoming YP-GP1 with ICS,dual core and qHD.
The new model that's supposed to be released is similar to a Galaxy S3, however, it will be a whopping 5.8 inches, like, mini tablet sized.
I'd say go with the 4.2, it looks better, and quality is better as well, and as long as she's not going to be a heavy gamer of some sorts, she'll be fine with it.
Otherwise, if you plan to put a custom rom, I would say 5.0, although I dont have one myself (I have a 4.0) , since it has more ROMS to choose some, even though 4.0 looks promising.
There's also the Walkman Z, which is Sony's android PMP, and it looks alright, 1 GB of RAM, great if she's going to be a heavy user, although I don't own one of these either, so I have no real experience with it.
Anyways, maybe you should show her some of the choices, and let her pick from them herself.

5.8 sounds sweet, actually
she mainly wants it for music, web browsing, and games (mainly angry birds, minecraft PE, and fruit ninja), and i plan to throw GrooveIP on there eventually
ROMs aren't that important, but i do plan to help her root eventually.
Didn't know any of the walkmans were android powered, i'll have to check that out
and i do plan to let her make the final decision, if they're close. however, i want to give her the best options, not every option. I'm sure you understand.

It is also worth pointing out that the 4.0 (and 4.2 I think) has better sound quality because it has the wolfson DAC (5.0 has yamaha which is not bad but not as good either). You can enable voodoo sound on 4.0
4.0 also has better screen dpi because the resolution is more fitting on the screen size. 5.0 is better for movies IMO but be prepared to see some pixels :cyclops:

Right now the Walkman Z is looking like the best overall device, even with its lack of removable storage. Only things that irks me about it is the charging cable and the lack of cameras. I like the Walkman because the SoC (Tegra 2 + 1GB RAM) is the same as my tablet, so I now its going to be powerful enough. What CPU/RAM do the 4.0, 4.2, and 5.0 have?

Ultimately, there's no best or worst, it's about what's best for you. For this reason i have both the SGS 3.6 and 5.0. I like the 3.6 for its small size and extreme pocketability. I also use it as a bluetooth handsfree with my 7" 3G tablet. I love my 5.0 for the size of it's screen. It's still pocketable and i take it with me to outings and on weekends. It's very good for comfortably surfing the net on that large 5" screen or watching an odd movie.

It's still pocketable and i take it with me to outings and on weekends. even this is relative, it depends on what you need it for. If you want to play some very heavy 3d games, you need more power, but you will sacrifise the battery life.
If you read backa few comments I explain what it'd be used for...

Mine 5.0 works on 1.2 ghz it had power vr chip 540 ..all games that i have like gta 3 ,max payne ,fifa 12 ,real racing 2 etc works smoothly if that was your anwser.Power Vr 540 chip on 800x480 resolution gives higher FPS then tegra 3 on tablet resolution so 3d want be a problem ..for future games only problem could be single core processor.

I think it's the 4.0 or the 5.0 because they already have ROMs
Well, I own a Samsung Galaxy Player 4 and 4.2. For My the best between both devices is 4.2. The quality of sound and fluency is better. The only problem is sometimes when I use skype the 4.2 restart the system. :banghead:

I love my 4.0. It's smaller and fits well in a pocket. But girls have purses so I guess she wouldn't mind something bigger. I'd suggest you to wait for the new 5.8, it will be blazing fast with its dual core.

Real Racing 3: Nexus 10 vs iPad 3 video focus

Hi all,
Real Racing 3 it's a racing game just released by EA with gorgeous graphics for a mobile device platform.
If you want to know how does the Nexus 10 performs running this game with its beautiful 2560x1600 10 inches display, just give a look at this video:
http://youtu.be/8gy7XA0ZsAU
I made even a quick comparison with an iPad 3.
Ciaoooooooooo
Would be nice to see if the N10 can win against the iPad 4 though.

Mmmhh...if Real Racing 3 it's already a little bit better on the iPad 3 than on the Nexus 10, how can it wins against the iPad 4?!?!
I do really hope EA will release an update to catch up with the effects missing on the Nexus 10. :/

The iPad doesn't exactly "win" the iPad 3 runs graphic intensive games at a much lower resolution, for example, NFSMW has a lot more effects on the iPad 3 but you can also see the jaggy edges on all surfaces (it's most likely running at 1024x768 or 1440 by some number I forgot) My dad has one so yeah...
The iPad 4 on the other hand has one beast of a GPU and a lower resolution, for gaming, our nexus would be no match for it.

I wasn't talking in general, I was talking about Real Racing 3. If the game runs better on iPad 3 than on N10, the iPad4 cannot be worst.
Moreover, not every games run on the ipad 3 runs at lower resolution in respect to its display res (I own one...)
Given that, I don't think the N10 is less poweful of the iPad3, but for many reasons (one of those is hardware fragmentation of course) it's not that easy/worthwhile to write games able to use the whole "horsepower" of an Android device.
Anyway, yes, the iPad4 has actually one the the best GPU solution on any mobile devices, I guess the N10 just cannot catch up.
We will see if a new N10 with quad core cortexA15 and the Mali T658 could compete with it.
