Hi all,
Real Racing 3 it's a racing game just released by EA with gorgeous graphics for a mobile device platform.
If you want to know how does the Nexus 10 performs running this game with its beautiful 2560x1600 10 inches display, just give a look at this video:
http://youtu.be/8gy7XA0ZsAU
I made even a quick comparison with an iPad 3.
Ciaoooooooooo
Would be nice to see if the N10 can win against the iPad 4 though.

Mmmhh...if Real Racing 3 it's already a little bit better on the iPad 3 than on the Nexus 10, how can it wins against the iPad 4?!?!
I do really hope EA will release an update to catch up with the effects missing on the Nexus 10. :/

The iPad doesn't exactly "win" the iPad 3 runs graphic intensive games at a much lower resolution, for example, NFSMW has a lot more effects on the iPad 3 but you can also see the jaggy edges on all surfaces (it's most likely running at 1024x768 or 1440 by some number I forgot) My dad has one so yeah...
The iPad 4 on the other hand has one beast of a GPU and a lower resolution, for gaming, our nexus would be no match for it.

I wasn't talking in general, I was talking about Real Racing 3. If the game runs better on iPad 3 than on N10, the iPad4 cannot be worst.
Moreover, not every games run on the ipad 3 runs at lower resolution in respect to its display res (I own one...)
Given that, I don't think the N10 is less poweful of the iPad3, but for many reasons (one of those is hardware fragmentation of course) it's not that easy/worthwhile to write games able to use the whole "horsepower" of an Android device.
Anyway, yes, the iPad4 has actually one the the best GPU solution on any mobile devices, I guess the N10 just cannot catch up.
We will see if a new N10 with quad core cortexA15 and the Mali T658 could compete with it.

My daughter has saved up some money and is interested in getting a tablet to play with on holiday etc. Due to her young age I'm sure games will be a big deal. I have been looking at the Versus Touchpad 7 tablet which seems remarkably good value, but there was one comment on PC World's feedback that worries and makes be curious
"If you are purching this for kids and they want to download well known games from the Google Play store beware - many do not work with it, e.g. most EA games e.g. Fifa 2012, Monopoly, plus PES 2012, and the support you get from Google play or the game manufacturers in little to none."
The device has ICS and comes with Google Play, and it has an ARM Cortex A8 processor.
Why would these games not work? is it true? How do you choose an ICS tablet if it's that complicated?
thanks
It's because they all have different GPU's like PowerVR, Mali and Tegra and some Games only work with certain GPUs unless you Root and use Chainfire 3D, and I know it's annoying but that's just the way it is.
It is not usually that difficult, if a tablet has a decent gpu and at least 1 ghz cpu with one gig ram it will be fine for most games.
The problem is that the specific tablet you refer to is a low budget model that can be found rebranded by various companies and to keep costs low they use a very old not very good gpu.
Because high end games need a decent gpu to handle all the high quality graphics the lower end tablets aren't compatible because the gpu hasn't the raw power needed.
They are fine for everyday use but for games you need a recent gpu as, when gaming, this part of the tablet works the hardest and so needs to be powerful.
For the same price as the tablet you mentioned you could buy the much better specced ainol novo elf II which has a dual core cpu and a quad core mali 400 gpu and that would play the games much better.
You could even go for the budget priced Nexus 7 that has the state of the art tegra 3 gpu which is the best available gpu for android devices.

Thanks for the advice. I hate to say it but I think she might be happier with a Nintendo DS, and I am told that they are a lot more robust. She's only 8. The Nexus 7 doesn't seem widely (cheaply) available in the UK yet. It annoys me that a DS is as expensive as a tablet but at her age I think she only really wants games, particularly nintendogs.

The ds can be strong although in the past few years my ten year old has broken quite a few.
With the ds you can buy the lite version, or even original, which makes it a lot cheaper if you need to replace it.
As for the The Nexus 7 it will always be around £160 because it is sold by google pretty much at cost so won't come down in price unfortunately.

I spent a couple of hours with my daughter in PC world playing with the Nexus 7. There are a ton of games but they just didn't seem to engage her the way that the DS games did. A Nexus 7 is £200 on the high street but to be honest a DS with a couple of games is just as much. She has been saving for a year for a DS and now is really enjoying it so I guess that's okay.
The tip about the ainol novo elf II is very interesting. Maybe I will have to find an excuse to buy one.
If I had been a bit more organised she could have had a used DS and an Novo Elf II with the money she had but we need it to go away on holiday and I just left it too late. Oh well. Thanks for the replies.
Will you be putting down your Prime for a Nexus 10?

Haha... had to see this thread coming... I already did... just hanging around here to advise people till I get my Nexus 10.... gonna buy it the day it's available...
I am keeping my prime, I refuse to jump on this redundant display bandwagon. We've gotten by fine for over 10 years with 1200x800 and going higher just consumes more power, for what? 720p is more than acceptable on a 10 inch device. Last I checked, there aren't a surplus of 1600p videos, and even if there were I would prefer to watch them on something larger than 10 inches so I could actually see the difference over 720p. The only way to see the difference is to hold it inches away and that's not how people watch movies.
As far as text rendering goes, it's no excuse to sacrifice battery life, overall performance, and spend more money.
I wish OEMs would have let apple go down this silly path on their own. Not every decision apple makes is effective. I wish OEMs would have focused those efforts on more power, stability, and other features, instead of just pulling a page from apple's playbook and upping the displays on devices that already have wonderful displays. As it stands my transformer prime already has a nicer panel than the laptop I'm typing this on, and desktop displays could make much more use out of better displays than any 10 inch tablet can.
The purpose 1600p tablets serve is to satisfy consumer dickmeasuring. "OH YOUR TABLET ISN'T 1600P IT'S NOT AS NICE AS THE IPAD!"
There are more effective routes OEMs could have taken to actually advance their products that isn't putting in overkill displays.
Agreed to #3. Android narcissism in Tech Specs's war. Will it benefit consumers? Yes. Cut-throat competition. What I hope is that Google won't be killing off other OEMs in the near future just so to use them as springboards to fight Apple. If so, then Google's advocacy of Cloud Storage may mean expensive onboard storage of us all.

Not unless it gets a make over, it looks hideous! Seriously, what the hell were they thinking?
I was holding tough to my Prime hoping a fix was coming and that once it got JB all would be well.Bought myself a Galaxy S III a few weeks back and the Wife a Nexus 7 and they both run circles around my Prime.Really, its an embarrassment for a $500 tab to run like sh!t compared to a $200 tab and a smartphone. Not only web browsing but even flipping through menus and navigating the device is snappier than my Prime. The second I can get my hand on the Nexus 10,I'm dumping the Prime.. :good:
My Prime's still running like crap even after Jellybean and countless factory resets and even restoring the stock image. Mine is already on eBay and I'll be buying the Nexus 10 on release day. I welcome nearly instant updates from Google.
Maybe the nexus 7... I like the prime but I left a sgt7 for it and its just not as portable... But to answer the question, no I won't go to the nexus 10.
16 gb or even 32gb isn't enough I have like 28gb of apps alone. Google is retarded

im pretty sure that the nexus is much better than the prime (in some cases) but my questions is this, how will the speed differ in which the prime is quad core tegra 3 and the nexus is DUAL core with the new Cortex A-15 chip. For example apple used the cortex chips like the a-5 in their devices and the devices are pretty fluid so i wonder how this will put up and if it would be ridiculously lag-free faster....0.o
Nah for the time being ill stick with my prime I don't have any real issues. JB is fast and I can do everything I want on the tablet. I think even if I was able to get the Nexus 10 the time it would take for me to sell my prime and get up the rest of the cash if I couldnt sell it for 400, a newer nexus 10 will come out. So if anything ill save and wait. I have a sgs3 galaxy nexus and Tprime im good for another year or so on devices
No Nexus 10 for me but I just ordered a ipad mini. Found the 10 inch units too heavy while the display was too small on the 7 inch. But the mini was perfect in that regard. Lighter than any 7 inch but with screen massively bigger. And no more wasted space due to the on screen Android virtual buttons bar.
That was my plan until I saw the pics and specs. No microsd. $500 for only 32gb. No working for me. Just got to wait for anither tablet to come out. For those that dont think a higher resolution makes a difference. It does. I have the new ipad and the screen is beautiful. Makes reading and using it much easier on the eyes.

when the nexus10 is released in the netherlands or available for normal prices abroad i will surely switch to the nexus10. samsung is the way to go! also waiting for a good keyboard case/addon for the nexus 10.
after 2 asus products, 6 rma's and still a laggy product im sick and tired of asus.... and sick and tired of nvidia trying to get world domination with their closed source tegra-only marketing tricks...
for the moment i can wait a bit, cm10 unofficial with bfq scheduler works pretty decent but still lockups due to slow storage. i hate lags!
Does the increase resolution on the Nexus 10 lend itself to better handwriting recognition?

Apple devices are fluid because they don't properly multi task and don't have widgets and live wallpapers running on them, just a bunch of apps/folders cluttering up the screen. Clear your screens and only run one thing at once on Android and it might be as smooth but will it be any where near as fun?
I think the Nexus 10 has a rediculous resolution. I don't even have that on my pc with 24" monitor so why bother on a 10" tablet?
I reallly, really like my Prime so will be keeping it but I also have a 32GB Nexus 7 on the way for when I need something a little smaller and more portable.
I'm one of the lucky ones who has a nearly flawless Prime. Yea the WiFi could be better but I mainly just tether from my phone so it's not big issue. My TF201 of course has more mods on it than I could count (scripts mainly) and combined with a 1.8ghz OC it's faster than ever. The Nexus devices are great but honestly the look of the Nexus 10 doesn't please me even with the ridiculously high screen res.
N10 wins just on the fact that the software will be made by Google and will be snappy and responsive, not laggy and crappy. I just sold my Prime and will be getting an N10. Never again with Asus...never again.
Two things stop me from even thinking about it:
- no sd card slot
- no keyboard dock

The Exynos 5250 is much faster than Tegra 3. Also the Nexus 10 software comes straight from Google, so no lag and strange bugs. Yeah Prime is better looking but in my opinion usability is more important. Also Samsung devices dont have some cheap and slow internal memory.
I own a galaxy s3 and i recently sold my nexus 7. I primarily used my nexus 7 for games and comics and when i had some unexpected financial crap pop up the tablet was the first thing to go. I kinda wish i didnt sell it. Now ive gotten to looking around for different tablets and found the nexus 10 to be a sexy device, looks and feeling wise, but ive read that it has a ridiculous resolution that has very few optimized apps for it. i wondering if any of you might have any of the games ive collected off humble bundle on your nexus 10s and how well they work.

One thing to remember is the Nexus 10 is primarily a media consumption device. Whereas the Nexus 7 is a gaming tablet. The Nexus 7 plays games for better then the Nexus 10 does.

hmm..i really dont have any graphic intensive games i plan on playing though. it couldve just been my internet service but i felt like my nexus 7 was slow on the internet browsing department. is there a real difference between the internet speeds between the 7 and the 10?
back to the gaming department.. the stuff i play the most are machinarium, sword n sworcery, plants vs zombies, organ trail, rayman, simpsons tapped out, jet pack joyride, league of evil, world of goo, and the GTAs

ahhh.. has anybody put streetfighter 4 on their nexus 10?
I just started playing NOVA 3 Freedom Edition on my Nexus 9 and I noticed a huge difference in graphics quality from the Redmi 1s or even other phones version of the game! I think technically Graphics in a Tegra tablet should be far better than a normal Snapdragon Phone! BUT this is just the opposite! Although I don't get any fps drops or stuttering in the Nexus against the Redmi 1s's low fps and frequent stutters, it still is disappointing looking at that quality of graphics. Is there any way to fix this?
P.S.: Have tried downloading the OBB from in-game as well as from Play store. Same problem. Also I have screenshots from both devices but can't post because of 10-post threshold.

The game was specifically tailored for phones and 16:9 aspect ratio. The nexus 9 is 4:3 which makes games look graphically weird (like Real Racing 3) even though the tablet is capable of providing a crisp resolution. It's just poor optimization from the developers, or just lazy, I guess.
I'm not sure if this is the correct section..
I'm trying to play the game Horn on my Nexus 9 but the graphics look worse than on my old Nexus 7 with Tegra 3...
The textures are way more blurry and less detailed, but the framerate is fine, getting full 60fps.
anyone know how to change the graphics quality in this game? I haven't found ANYTHING in the main menu to change settings like texture quality..
its kind of a bummer that this great game looks like crap on a high performance tablet like the Nexus 9 ..
I don't think it is properly optimized for our chipset since it was last time updated long time ago.
well I don't understand why it works well on the Shield Tablet since it has the same GPU.
