[Q] Accidently flashed sgh-i777 with i900 firmware to get ics - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-I777

However I didnt like it, so I flashed back to sgh-i777 firmware. However, when I turn the phone on it still says that its a gt-i900, but when I go into the phone settings it says that the model number is an sgh-i77...Any Ideas how to fix this?
Could it be that I accidently installed the i900 bootloader?
Yes I did read the stickys and I admit I had no Idea on what i was doing, but I believe learning comes from these trial errors like I just presented to you guys.
I boot the screen says i900, I gen no triangle. After everything is booted and i get to the phone- I go to phone info in settings and the phone model is an sgh-i777? is this normal??? cause in the boot menu it says its an international version.

you may have to use a usb jig to get it off. that is what works for me

How do you accidentally flash something on these phones?? The CWM that came with Entropys kernel makes accidents nearly impossible. Nearly.

How the heck do you "accidentally" flash the wrong firmware?
Someone clearly didn't read the FAQ.

Alright, I'm going to assume your phone boots atleast. You probably see a different boot screen with a yellow triangle and i9100 correct? If so, do not worry all is not lost. You have a microSD card right? Go over to the development forum here and find a ROM you like. I use the MIUI build (purely personal preference), UnNamed is another popular build that many members here use. Download the zip file from the thread and copy it to the microSD card (do NOT extract it, leave as a .zip file).
Put the SD card back into your phone and hold down the vol up, vol down and power keys untill CWM (a text based, bios like thing) comes up. From here use the arrow keys to navigate to wipe data, press the power button to select and confirm. Then go back to the main menu and navigate to "install zip from external SD". Find your .zip file and install.
That will get you a working phone. Search the forum for how to remove the yellow triangle if you want, it is a non-issue, just a leftover from Odin.
EDIT: After re-reading your post it sounds like you got it working again, the yellow triangle thing bootscreen is not an issue at all, removing it is a little advanced but can be done. If you're just getting your feet wet I wouldn't advise changing it untill you have flashed a few roms and found one you are going to stick with.

I think he is just confused by the triangle warning screen, and that the rom works fine. sounds to me like thats all it is, anyway.
edit: if you don't have the warning triangle and it says gt-i9100 on the boot screen, fire up odin and flash this.
http://hotfile.com/dl/145854922/8415983/I777UCKH7_I777ATTKH7_ATT.zip.html
unzip and put the .tar file in the PDA slot. I'm assuming you know how to use Odin (Maybe assuming too much )

I want to say thanks to nbell13 for uploading that file. It was a life saver. I was running into the same problem. Some of the i777 files are named wrong :\

[Q] Can't get OUT of recover mode.

This morning I wanted to install a new rom and for some stupid reason, I forgot my phone was a Vibrant and not a I9000.
The rom installed just fine using Clockwork but once booted into recovery mode, I am unable to use the power button as the select button. Also, the volume up and volume down buttons are reversed. I am guessing that the I9000 has a home button that my phone does not.
Question is this: Is there anyway to get OUT of recovery mode? I tried to connect using adb but my computer could not find the device.
Am I royally fcked?
Don't listen to the guys on top...everyone makes mistakes..try going into download mode and flashing "Eugene's froyo that does not brick". After that flash jacs nandroid backup. I would post links but I'm on my phone....you can find the links in the vibrant bible (its one of the stickys in this forum)
Instructions to get into download mode:
Turn phone off
Take out battery
Put battery in
Hold volume up and down and then insert USB cable.
This should take you to download mode.
Then flash the roms listed above in that order through odin (also found in the Bible). Hope this helps...

Do as he said above, but also make sure you have odin opened up before plugging in usb to the phone, and make sure you have all the drivers for the phone installed. I fought with odin for about two hours my first time before I finally realized I had to have odin opened first.

Thank you guys so much. Not only does it work but now Froyo is installed!
Like jtc442 stated, Odin must be started before anything will work.
As an aside: The up and down volume buttons are reversed and the splash screen is stuck with I9000. Not a big deal, something to remind me which roms not to use.

Well done dude! Mistakes happen, glad you sorted yours out. Those are pretty normal things in froyo as far as i know so its not a ROM issue. If you want a really good ROM I would recommend Bionix ROM, its currently the top dog of Vibrant ROMs

glad you got it back working. you should be able to get the buttons working right by flashing another rom, like bionix, or some of the other great roms in the forum.
You also could have used adb to reboot it.

can you not use odin and install everything to get it back to factory settings? using the correct pit and tar files? then start fresh? download the all in one zip, and start fresh.
There is a known issue with non-Vibrant froyo ROM's with the reversed buttons, and 3.5 mm jack. As far as the recovery is concerned, I think either home or back button should serve as a select button (on the original Galaxy it is the large home button).
Hey folks. Just had a similar case (all fixed now though ). In my case, I went from stock JI6 to the Vibrant Hybrid R3 ROM, and was stuck at the Vibrant screen for about half an hour. Decided to ODIN back to JI6, which made it stuck at recovery. Fixed that by using ODIN to go back to 2.1 July stock and then back to JI6. What is it that caused the two soft-bricks in the first case? (For the record, I followed instructions to the letter) Just wondering.
EDIT: I suspect I misinterpreted the term "stock." I assumed stock meant a T-Mobile ROM, not specifically the ROM that shipped with the phone. Was that the issue in the above incident?

Hey,
first question:
You are able to get in download mode? (volume down + home button + power button)
If yes, be cool
So when u are able, flash a stock Rom with "re-partition".
This means also that you must have a stock Rom with 3 files (or sometimes more), but not the one .tar file.
If you've done this, your phone should work normal.
Then try to root again with the right "cf-root" for the android version, you flashed.
Good luck!

Just out of curiosity: I always read, you should never select "re-partition".
Why do you suggest this here right now for a StockRom?
Thanks in advance.

What I have read it only works if pit file is available, but even then re-partition should not be used. And a one-file tar generally contains the same files (phone, modem, csc) as the three-file-combo.
That's why I'm so confused.
Im honestly glad you guys know what your talking about

The .pit file is only needed by three-file-combo.
Then you can check also the repartition.
If you have one file .tar, the .pit-file is senseless and never should check repartition.
Sure in one file you have nearly the same "files" like in three, but in three-file they can be written separatly on right partition.
Mates don't get me wrong but just accept it
I'm not a dev or scripter but but flashed a lot.
Never bricked my phone but often hanging in bootloop and so on.
And like you see the way with re-partition can help.
I Never flashed a stock Rom since I had my SGS II, but like I said I'm flashing a lot and I had the SGS before, too
Hope all question are answered.
If not pls ask devs for more info.

Wrong, you can use it with both single tarball archive or with the 3 component tarball. You don't need to repartition the device unless you need to change the partition layout for whatever reason or you've damaged your partition layout.

[Q] PANIC!! Galaxy S2 ICS Update Gone Wrong

I Downloaded and installed the ICS update last night and have been living in hell since. It doesn't have the soft buttons it is supposed to, so navigating through everything is an absolute nightmare! I want to go back to my standard rooted phone. But I have followed MANY, MANY guides, and it will not work. I have downloaded 10 different ROMS and FIRMWARES today and Flashed OVER AND OVER. I am completely stuck and NEED help please.
I have used Recovery to try and install new Roms, Used Odin as well, and I get problems EVERY time. It will reboot, load, and as soon as the "Touch the Android to Begin" logo comes up, It starts having process failures popping up over and over, preventing me from being able to do anything. Forcing me to reflash to ICS again.
Can someone please explain the process to take it back to stock so I can re-root it?
Did you wipe everything when you installed the roms? Data, cache, Dalvik?
Find stock roms here for odin:

then download this rom (i think this is best ICS Rom) and install it with CMW(you should copy the rom inside your internal SD) then full wipe your phone and install rom .

Zylor, Thanks for the overt Negativity in your post. I was making sure we were clear, not complaining. I wasn't aware that telling someone that they have provided a great resource was "complaining". And when the OP AND the page he sends you to VERY CLEARLY say ONLY USE THE CORRECT VERSION, far be it for me to magically know that I can grab any random version from CHINA or wherever and have it work on my US ATT GS2. You have the AT&T device.
Your correct forum is at http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1301
Not sure from the details supplied, but have youtried AT&T specific Roms?
Over at this site http://galaxys2root.com/category/att-galaxy-s2-roms/ (Thanks to Max) they have quite a few to try. And make sure you do a complete wipe before you flash one of them ie, factory reset, clear cache then advanced delvik cache and battery stats and then install from zip.
Hope this helps.
I followed all the instructions, and my phone rebooted into the ROM. But it is not stock. My Back and Search buttons still do not work, and the Recovery is 3e, so I cant use the Recovery function because my model (US AT&T) doesn't have the OK button. Since I cant get it to take a screenshot, i'll list the info below:
Android Version: 2.3.5
Baseband Version: I9100XXKI3
Kernel Version: 2.6.35.7-I9100XXKI3-CL577579 [email protected] #2
Build Number: GINGERBREAD.XXKI3
I just want to get it back to AT&T Stock, or a WORKING 2.3.6. But as it stands, It doesnt work properly, because my Back Button does not work, nor my Search button.
All Guidance is appreciated. I want to get back to the Stock Bootloader, not the ICS Bootloader
P.S. - I DID SEARCH FOR THIS INFO. When I did, I came up with threads like:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1317372
- Turns out it only works on the CHINESE SGS2.

Bob!! Thats exactly what I want to do. But I cant, because the Recovery installed on my phone wont let me do anything because I dont have the OK button on my phone. I tried the power button and everything else, I cannot make selections in Recovery 3e, so the only way to get out of it is to pull the battery.
Xfile if your sticker says at&t sgh-i777 theres a complete forum dedicated to that model here in xda. Better pop in there and find more help.
They also have model specific roms over there and surely they should work. Wannit to post the link but not sure how to from the xda app yet.

No Sweat. I'm just trying to follow instructions and get this fixed ASAP. I did flash the bootloader mentioned, with no errors in Odin, but it still loads with the new galaxy S logo animation instead of the old GT-I9100 Logo with the Yellow Exclamation point. AND, I still have no use of the Back and Search buttons, functionality that is removed in the new ICS. What am I doing wrong? I cannot seem to get my phone back to Stock Android.

Brick help needed

I recently rooted my phone to the latest Siyah version. I noticed the capacitive buttons not working correctly and then I noticed the version I had was for I900. I went into cwm and installed the correct kernel for my phone but it did not fix the problem. I realized after that I didnt clear the cache. So I went into clockwork recovery and tried to fix that but I hit something to cause my phone to go to a black screen and had litle flashes every once in a while. I took out the battery and the galaxy screen with the triangle pops up but then goes to black. If I hit the power button it will show the battery charging button briefly but then goes away.
After all that. My question is can my phone be saved?
Thanks,
Mike

Yes, almost certainly.
First, please confirm the model of your phone. Do you have SGH-I777?
You will need to boot into download mode, and install the stock Gingerbread firmware UCKH7 that the phone originally came with. From that point, you can update or modify the phone as you prefer.
From what you say, it sounds like you need to do a fair amount of reading of the sticky post items such as the faq and guides and elswhere in this forum to get a good foundation of information about the phone and how it works. Understanding makes it much safer to work with your phone.

Yes. I have the I777. When I originally installed the kernel I downloaded it from the I777 section and it was supposed to be a 1 click thing till I realized those little issues of the I900.
I finally got into odin mode and it says its downloading. I can also now see it on my computer. Not sure what its downloading but its better than the black screen i was getting. Been on the downloading screen for 5 minutes or so. Just gonna leave it downloading till it does something or someone tells me something better to do
Thanks for your help!
***Update I downloaded the UCKH7 on to the phone and Odin(on the computer said successful) The phone is still stuck on Downloading... Do not turn off target. I didnt have the auto reboot selected on Odin. Should I try diusconnecting the phone and rebooting with the power button or just wait until it does it? been hung on it for 10 minutes even though the computer said it was done.

It showing downloading, but you open odin in compyuter to download. Are you downloaded stock rom like UCKH7 from here or here to flash via odin?

Go to the guide how to install custom binaries... which is linked in my signature. Read it untill you understand the basics. It will explain how to use Odin and download mode. Once you understand, flash the UCKH7 stock plus root package that is linked in the guide. This is assuming that you want root and to customize your phone.

if u follow the guide then u prolly have a rooted stock(assuming u used the rooted stock package) which Kies is not friendly with maybe due to having a non-stock kernel, also 2.3.4 is GINGERBEAD. Now if u plan to flash ICS ROM's i suggest forget bout Kies & go back to the guide & learn how to flash a kernel w/ CWM.

[Q] Problems restoring stock rom

I have a backup of my stock rom from when I got the phone and I would like to restore that back but it won't let me. When in recovery and I hit restore I get "E:Can't mount /sdcard" so I try advanced restore and then I get "E:Can't mount sdcard" and finally I tried restore from internal sdcard and then I get an error saying "Couldn't open directory. No files found." bearing in mind I don't have any sd card inserted but it's how I always used to do it. So I tried going to mounts and storage then mounting the sd card from there but get an error saying "Error mounting /sdcard!".
What do I do please?
Tried re flashing the recovery or trying another recovery?

It's the only recovery I have, but how would I go about re flashing it? Just put it in a .zip or something?
have you tried looking for another recovery or looking into the android development for your phone.
shouldnt be that hard to put one on, in fact if it becomes that hard, it should only be as hard as running a few ADB commands. look for one that you like and check out the instructions

No , hes talking about kernel. You need to try a different kernel (they include cwm recovery).
Flash the kernel/recovery you used when backing up the rom.

I can't even remember what kernel I was using back then. It was 2 years ago now.
I'm not sure if it's all worth it, I'm only recycling it at the O2 store for money, does it matter? Is installing custom roms illegal? Because my only worry is them testing it by turning it on or something and seeing that I'm running cMIUI.

Dude don't worry and that phone is worth the fix. As far as I c it you don't even have it that bad. What atheist said is correct.
All you need to do is look for a recovery / kernel that most of the time come together and flash it. Just read the instructions on that post.
After all you're in the right place to get your phone hooked up and fixed whenever u have problems. Don't be nervous about it. Unless u want a new phone lol.

Well I already have a new phone man, I'm just getting rid of this one at a store who will pay me money for it. But I wasn't sure whether to flash the stock back or not in case they checked.
best bet then is just put it back to stock and wipe it like new

That's what I would like to do but can't work out how really. Is there just a stock ROM I could flash instead of having to restore my last backup of one?

I have Odin, I have the stock tar md5 file or whatever it is. I think the only thing I'm missing is the OPS files which I can't find because the only link I found was dead. Any help please?
The tar.md5 file is all you need. Flash it in the PDA section of Odin as previously advised.

Right. I have to boot my phone into download mode too right? Power button + home button + volume down? Because I'm doing this and it's not working. Stuck on 'SetupConnection..' at the moment.
edit: it finished and said "Complete(Write) operation failed."
Anyone know why this isn't working? :s
can't get to Download Mode?
Time for usb jig.
or this thread.
Sorry, I typed that out wrong. I'm in download mode (I think) but I'm getting those errors that I posted about when I have it plugged in with Odin opened..
Install/Reinstall Kies and shut it all up before you open odin, then flash.

I totally forgot about kies man, never even had it installed. It seems to have worked, and I'm on a stock ROM now but when I boot up it's stuck on the Samsung Galaxy S II logo where it keeps illuminating..
I'm not sure if that matters, if the store I take it to for money does end up testing it, at least they can see it turns on, just boot loops for some reason? :/
