It's not since HTC aren't fully cooperating with our definition of open source. They refuse to release the source for the TI wifi drivers so it makes it very difficult to compile custom kernels.
AND
We can't get s-off. So don't ask.
AND
We still can't flash boot.img files (kernels) by recovery.
AND
We don't have a lot of developers here in the Amaze section to begin with. Poor xboarder.
I would love to know what is the reason that we don't have a cm7 for the amaze lets work together on something here thanks.

Closing before this turns ugly.
Tell HTC to release the full source so we can have cm, then ask the cm team.
I was told Gently that questions belong here...
so, my question is, How to "port" a kernel.
like source-code downloaded from the htcdev.com website,
to work on a NON-sense ROM.
Is this even POSSIBLE?
i searched everywhere, but i was not getting good results.
mostly becaus my device is an evo 3D, but still no luck.
any help would be appreciated.
There are many custom kernels for evo gsm coolexe, anryl, A kernel just to mention a few, and most will work with non sense evo roms

I know but i want to do some more advanced work...
I am going to build (at least trie) my own rom for which i need a kernel.

I believe HTC has the kernel source code on htcdev, but I could be wrong, check there

It's hard enough to develop a rom!

if you get (or can make) the device specific files, kernels can be ported
"kernelchef" took linux 3.0.8 from kernel.org
used the gingerbread linux 2.6 device files (board-shooter.c for example) for values, while using the real files from a different device as a templete
and was able to make a working linux 3.0.8 kernel weeks/months before htc released one.
He also ported the rezound audio and gpu drivers over to the 3d...
so, with lots of spare time on your hands (and the understanding of how to read the code), it can be done.
Ok, ok.
But i want to know how to build an aosp kernel from the htcdev.com source.
I don't know if this can be done?
So i don't want to build a whole new kernel, just modify an old one.

There is a rumor that a one x (international?) Jelly Bean update is coming in a few months, hopefully the next evo update doesn't lag behind

LOL, I think you've got the trend down.
Forgive my ignorance, but does this increase the chance of devs identifying a 1.15 Hboot vulnerability, or is Hboot not relevant to this source code?
holy tooth decay batman!!!!!!! wo0t woot!!! :highfive:

I'm no expert, but am fairly certain the hboot is proprietary and will never be shared.
Hope they fix the LTE connection issues in this update. Comparing it to the S3 side by side the EVO is a joke for LTE usage.

No this is used for making kernels for overclocking and other tweaks. The hboot will be strickly the work of our wonderful devs as HTC does not want us to be soff.

If i remember correctly, the wifi part of the kernel was not included in prior releases. Somebody who knows better/more please chime in, im always happy 2 learn more

It's OK (GPL? For HTC to release source kernel code and omit the WiFi code?

I pmed the htc guy from the other thread asking about that. Waiting on a reply.
The jist is this.
Ask htc they say contact Qualcomm because it's propriety.
Ask Qualcomm and they say contact htc because they released the kernel source.

If its proprietary stuff by Qualcomm then HTC can't release it... Just bc its in the kernel doesn't mean it has to have full source to that exact part... There are ways to still secure proprietary things and include them in kernel for open source items... It'd be interested to see if this is the case..
I would think by now someone over on CAF woulda figured this out for sure by now though...
Anyway hopefully Jeff can get something for ya that will help or least give an answer on the reasoning why...
