I have looked around the forums and have found many issues with MHL but none seem to reflect mine.
I bought and MHL adapter, hooked it up, have the phone in a charging state, can see my home screens, and have even played Shadow Gun with little trouble.
It simply won't play videos, it plays maybe a second and then freezes, it doesn't lock up since I can still back out and such. It does this with Mobo, MX, and the stock video players. I have disabled USB debugging and it made no difference. I was really looking forward to watching movies on the TV with this thing. I have tried numerous clips but none work, same deal with Netflix.
It's a stock GB with Touchwhiz from Bell.
Anyone have a solution?
EDIT: Seems to work slightly better with soft decoding set as the default in the movie player. For a while I had the video working well, but audio came out of the phone not the TV.

This is a bit more of a TV aficionado question but also applies to our Rezound. I recently was given, as a gift, the MHL adaptor. Like any good new toy i hooked it up with various videos and began tinkering.
One of the things i did was downloaded (rented) a movie from HTC Watch. I wanted to see how good the quality was through the app and through the MHL. To my surprise it actually looks great however it seems as is there is black crush in the picture; almost like either the phone or the MHL adapter is sending the wrong color/picture signal.
For instance, if you have a PS3 you have in your options for color either RGM or Limited. Generally one is for the TV color space and the other is for computer monitor color space. If you use the wrong one of your TV typically you end up with DEEP blacks but you "crush" them and it darkens the picture too much and lose a lot of shadow detail.
The above "seems" to be happening using HTC Watch and the MHL adapter. Wanted to know if anyone else tried this out and are getting the same thing?
As a quick aside, i tested the "stock" HD videos that come with the rezound, a downloaded HD youtube video and also a 720p mpg through MX Video player of an episode of American Horror Story. None of the above videos experienced the "black crush" and all played smooth and properly with the exception of the AHS audio not being in sync on my TV but being in sync on my device; probably a decoding thing.
This makes me believe it could be a HTC "Watch" issue and not a MHL problem. BTW i am using the official HTC MHL adapter.

I'm chasing an issue with HDMI sync across several different displays and i wanted to see if anyone else can replicate what i'm seeing.
I have attached my prime to 5 different displays with my Monoprice 10ft HDMI cable. This cable works flawlessly on several other devices, so i'm taking that out of the equation right now.
The issue i'm having is that on 3 of the 5 displays i have used, the prime will not maintain HDMI sync, the image and audio jump back and forth between the display and the prime accompanied by lines and green artifacting. This does not seem related to the media, as i can reproduce this with Bluray rips (mkv) as well as 1080p video recorded from the prime.
I'm using the stock video player as well as BS Player in HW decode mode.
I'm leaning towards an audio decoding/sync issue between the prime and the display. Connected to a problematic display, i can play an Mkv with the stock player with no issue, but of course there is no sound. If i play it with BS Player, i get sound, but an extremely unstable link and ultimately a failure of the HDMI connection.
Playing a prime-sourced 1080p vid with stock player and BS player on a problematic display yields the same results...i get audio, but stuttering and ultimately a failure of the HDMI link (tablet shows disconnected) occurs.
Displays (all used with the same cable.)
55inch Panasonic 1080p LCD - Works flawlessly, i can't get it to put a foot wrong.
42inch 720p Panasonic Plasma - artifacts on homescreen, all other screens, and unstable HDMI link.
37inch 1080p Vizio LCD - No issues, same as 55" panasonic
27inch Hanns-G 1080p LCD (~1 year old) - Clear home screens, but HDMI instability while playing back any 1080p content
28inch Hanns-G 1080p LCD (brand new, different model) - exact same behavior as the other hannsG monitor.
If anyone has experienced this, or NOT experienced this, please chime in with the details of your setup. I can't imagine this is an isolated incident.
I don't have my TP (yet), so I can't give you a yes I see it/no I don't, but from a general troubleshooting perspective have you given thought to it being a bad connector on the prime itself?
With the testing you've done so far it seems pretty likely that the issue is with the prime, but personally I think that sounds a lot like an intermittent physical disconnect problem more than a software one.
Edit: you can test for this, too, wiggle the connector in its slot and see if that causes the issues and conversely if holding the connector firmly in place stops it.
I didn't get my HDMI cable yet, but I've had problems with the stock video player on the tablet. Download MXPlayer and give it a shot. It's fixed all of my issues. I believe there's a free version available.

Thanks for the response. That is something i forgot to include in the OP...i can't find any correlation to the connector either. I wanted to believe the issue was as simple as that, but after lots of wiggling and hours of playing riptide with the cable in, i've mostly ruled that out as well.
Thanks for the suggestion on MX video player, i will give that a shot.
I'm having a problem with my Atrix today.
First, everything was fine, videos (mp4) were played perfectly in both Webtop mode and Entertainment center. Then I quit the video and played another one, the problem occurred: no sound from the Plasma TV's speakers, only sounds coming from the tiny speaker of Atrix. I played several other videos, still no sound from the TV's speaker, even with ones which used to be good before. I even tried with some mp3s, and the same problem occurred.
Any suggestion? May be my HDMI cable is malfunctioned ?

I got my mhl addapter but it is not working correctly. I hook the addapter to the hdmi cable then hook the power using the cable and power supply that came with the phone and finally connect to the phone. I do hear a beep and see the phone charging so i know the power connection is good. Most of the time i dont get anything at all in the monitor, sometimes all i get is a flashing of the screen as if a signal is coming and going and in a handful of instances it had work but it would play video very chopy at both the hdtv and the phone screen, like a frame every 3 seconds. I try my larger hdtv and exibit the same behavior execpt that i never got it to work. I realize the addapter migth be defective but in the other hand i might be doing something wrong. The videos i tried both works fine in the phone by itself. One is off youtube and one is a movie saved in the sd card.

I have trouble getting mine to connect to my monitor. It takes me many tries but when I finally get it to work I don't have choppy video like you are talking about...everything runs smooth.
You have debugging off, correct? Other than that it may be your adapter as mine has yet to give me a problem on any TV
The debugging set to on was causijg the lag in the video. Thanks. After i got that out of the way i played with it more and realized the reason i dont get video has to do with the usb cable. I can play with it and if i put pressure in an upward direction it works. So i know i do have a defective addapter. I will try other usb cables but this is a good working cable and brand new. Another issue worth to mention is how horrible the video quality is. It looks like real redish, no sharp at all. It reminds me the old time when we only had over the air tv signal and you were getting a signal from a distant station. Is this normal? I wasnt expecting 1080 full hd signal but if this is the way it is supposed to work then maybe i dont need this addapter after all. Anyone care to coment on their video quality?
I tried at work on my pc monitor with a hdmi to dvi adapter. I had no problem getting the adapter to work continuously but video got choppy again even without debuging on... I will do some more testing later...
hate to bump this but if anyone using mhl can chime in and let me know how good/bad is their video quality on a 32 inch (or higher) hd tv I will appreciate it much. If what I saw in mine is the way it is supposed to look then I might as well save my money and watch whatever I am watching in the phone itself....

I hook mine up to my 55in LCD every once in a while and the videos play at almost the exact quality as what's on the note's screen. The only difference I've noticed is the picture on my TV isn't as bright as on the note when playing videos.
Mine is good from time to time on a 42" screen, but the sound cuts out sometimes, and occasionally static goes across the screen.

So I should see good quality... Tonight I tried my work monitor. I hooked a hdmi to dvi adapter to the monitor, hook the hdmi cable to it, then hook the cable to the mhl adapter, hook the power, then hook to the phone... It worked great, the audio was coming out of the phone which I was expecting to have to bluetooth to my pc to use it for audio as you loose your audio feed when going hdmi to dvi. Videos were looking great, no lag in audio, no skipping or anything. I played youtube videos off dolphin, stock browser and the youtube application with no problem. Played different videos just to make sure it was not the content. Then played some of the movies on my sd card. All great. The only issues I would have is at times I lost all video for several seconds (total back screen) and sometimes when I loose video I would get snow. I rearranged my monitor set up since I use dual monitors at work and wanted to have use the dvi connection on the secondary monitor instead of the first. Then I tried one more time to make sure it was all the same before heading and trying at home... It started failing the same way as at my home. Video will play a frame every 2 or 3 seconds, no audio and sometimes not video at all...
I am going to change this adapter, any of you that is having success care to share who did you bought yours from?

Im happy for you. Where did you got yours from? I am expecting anoter adapter tomorrow from a different company and it is also supposed to work with anynet+. The seller that sold me this one just returned my money and told me I did not have to return it so I still have it. Pending if the other adapter does the same or not...
Got the new one today, it does work on both of the hdtvs at home with no problems. Anynet does not seems to work on the 20 some inches tv but It does work for my camcorder. At work it didnt work right until I turn off/on the phone, then it stopped working when I tried again after the phone went idle and I switched the monitor to the pc while I was working a trouble. Now it wont work at work even after a reboot. I get that one frame per every2 seconds problem. I am going from a hdmi cable to a dvi connector but it did worked fine before..
I posted these questions in AT/T forum but got no answer probs due to lack of consumers actually using the official adaptor, so would love to ask u guys here since im really aiming at using the cable for presentations etc (and spent 50 dollars on it);
1) How do i fix the borders cut off in landscape mode when connected to TV?? If u look at youtube videos every user regardless of TVs have the screen bit cut off even thou phone's resolution is 16:9 720p?
2) Why does it display in 1080p not 720p (screen on galaxy s3 is 720p)? (my laptop using same hdmi cable without adaptor shows as 720p on TV) id like to be able to adjust it
3) My galaxy s3 heats up to 55 Celsius when playing with the phone and mirroring games. Is this normal? (although my alienware laptop heats up same also when connected to TV)
4) There is a abit of a lag between TV and a phone, the phone also seems to lag more when connected to TV (my laptop doesnt experience this)

Most TVs default mode is to cut off the borders, I find that odd with HDTV because it's digitial. With the analog TVs they would cut off a little border because the edges of the signal weren't always of the best quality, and it makes the picture look a little "bigger" too. On my Samsung TV there is a "P.Size" button (picture size I presume), and I push that until "screen fit" comes up, which shows the full image. On other TVs I've heard using the HDMI port labeled for PC/laptops will come by default setup to not cut the borders, if it's not labeled that way it's normally the port that shares or is right next to the DVI port.
I have the 1080p display issue with the horrible lag as you've seen. If you come across a solution let me know, because it drives me nuts and some games are basically unplayable which is one of the major reasons I got my MHL adapter. For videos and web it works well enough, since a video isn't interactive you don't notice the delay.
The heating up is probably normal, a phone a very dense compared to a PC and doesn't have fans like a PC has, and I bet the display cloning and charging takes up a bit of power.
Just got my new sammy tv with mhl support and more stuff, but have the same problem as you guys. Choppy playback at 1080p30, that really sucks. It shall be at 1080p60. I will give it a try with the other 2 hdmi slots, maybe it will work then. If not, I'm screwed and have to sell my hdmi-mhl-adaptor -.-'''

It seems max output is 1080p30, yet the phone is really nice and smooth on a tv with 720p or 1080i, as it's 60hz. Really annoying that there aren't any settings for the HDMI output to simply select an output resolution!
