I know that I have hboot 1.5 and that I need to flash radios through fastboot.
Since you have hboot 1.4, I THINK you can flash through recovery. Dont take my word for it as Ive no need to flash a radio and havent on this particular device.
Make a nandroid and be certain that you have the correct radio.
put the PG86IMG.zip file on the root of sdcard

run it for day. then flash a different radio and try that one. but if its working well, leave it be.
most often a rom will run better with its corresponding radio

Why the **** will this image you linked NOT flash my phone?! It loads, checks then just dumps me at the hboot screen! Ive got hboot 1.5(obviously) and the latest software 2.17.651.5. Even the .2 RUU exe will NOT work, continuously gives me hboot version error. I believe its error 140. I NEED to unlock this thing...or get pissed and hit it with a hammer.

HTC unlock method will not work. I flash the token and it just sits there...Im trying to revert to .2 so I can actually unlock, like I have with two other 3d's but the friggin RUU exe tells me bootloader version error which is 140, I believe. I should know, I saw it 356 times last night.

Tried that a million times last night. And just now, just because.
I took a video of the process because I couldnt read what the RUU was saying. After updating signature, very quickly it says Checking Header...then it says checking MID/CID and then I get the screen that is attached! [Expletive deleted!]

It is locked. Its new. That screen comes from the .2 RUU exe.
I havent tried anything with adb. I havent used adb since the Evo4g. Have a link?
I have tried running the RUU with windows, I have tried PG86IMG.zip's, Ive tried RUU's while already being in fastboot. When I try using PG86IMG's through hboot, it loads the file, checks the file then dumps me back at the Hboot screen.

Adb is what most folks use to do all there stuff. You have to have adb installed to do the HTC devs route from what I have read. So the phone is locked and your tryin to root it. But are gettin errors ?
So your phone now is hboot 1.5 and is currently up to date and your tryin to root it HTC dev route but get errors?
Got the pistol in my hand, thumb on the hammer.

Yeah exactly. But posted on xda, you cant htc dev it with any software other than 2.08.651.2, which for some bizarre ass reason, I cant downgrade to!
I tweeted the other day "when the **** did adb move?!". so thats how long ago I used it. Im familiar with it, I used to delete all my bloat with adb, which was a painstaking process.

Thanks dude. Hopefully we can unlocked and junk. Did I mention I also love the reaper? Multiple reaper tattoos inspired by children of bodom album art. But I digress.
It would be nice if HTC updated their bootloader unlock method but frankly, I dont see that happening. I called them today and they dont support anything.

How did you do it???? Please help me/us out..I have the exact same problems, tried using the 2.08 RUU's and get an error 140. And when I try the HTC unlock method at step 12 when I flash the unlock_code.bin nothing happens, no disclaimer shows up. I am on 2.17.651.5 latest OTA and HBOOT 1.5.

Latest ICS OTA

I'm interested in getting the latest OTA update and attempt to S-Off. I am currently unlocked via HTCDev, on the old GB firmware, and running CleanROM DE.
How do I go about doing this? I've searched the forum and attempted to relock for a couple of hours now with no success. Can someone please give me some instructions on what I need to do? From what I've read, it would be better to get the latest OTA before attempting S-Off. Is that right?
I am no expert, but I believe if you made a back up of the stock Rom, you could just restore it, then s-off. It would be easier to s-off, then you could ruu the newest update, and install a custom recovery after that. Like I said, I am no expert.

I didn't back up the stock ROM. How can I get back to stock so I can attempt S-Off?
Have you thought about following these directions?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1696394&highlight=stock+rom+recovery
They worked for me.
Those are the instructions I was following. It says you must be on a stock gingerbread ROM or the 3.14.605.5 ICS Leak niether of which i am on so I guess that was my issue. It would get stuck after the first reboot and tell me to check device manager for adb or hboot drivers. I'm fairly certain I have all the drivers installed so it must be the rom I'm on. Thats why I was trying to figure out how to get back to stock.

Trust me you don't have to be on .5. I wasn't. I also posted a reply for you in another thread. In short look here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1425091&highlight=stock+rooted+rom
Ok, then it must not be the ROM. It has to be a problem with the drivers. I even uninstalled the drivers I had and installed them directly from the tool. Any ideas?

The following thread documents the steps that I took to go from unlocked, s-on, rooted stock rom to where I am now. If you follow what I did you should be good to go. I've haven't seen anything to make me think that you can't do the s-off procedure on the latest firmware (4.14.605.2)

To RUU, you need to lock the bootloader first, you DO rename it to ph98img.zip and then flash in hboot.
I s-offed by just flashing the stock, rooted version of the RUU first...I didn't have to lock! I'll look for a link. :good:

Awesome, thanks. I actually have the stock, rooted version of the RUU downloaded and ready. (vigorOTAStockRooted.zip). I'm much more familiar with CWM than I am with Amnon RA. Just to confirm: All I need to do is rename the RUU to P98IMG.zip and reboot to recovery, correct?
So the moral of the story is to always backup your stock Rom before loading any custom ones.....

All the files not being found with different extensions is normal
It always searches for all of these files every time you load the bootloader, and unless you put a pg86.img on your sd card, than it's okay that it's not there.
If a ruu doesn't help, then I don't know, Does the RUU give an error??
If so what does the error say.

to use tis file you have to take your phone and go into your hboot and select fastboot
next plug your phone up to the computer via the usb cable
the ruu i gave you the link for double click that on the computer and let it run .....this iis something that must be done on a windows computer not a linux
the difference is that one is a zip file and it contains the gingerbread version of android which functions mainly with hboot 1.4,1.5 or 1.04 eng
the zip file can be installed by renaming it to pg86img.zip and going to hboot
the file you are supposed to down load contains the file for ice cream sandwhich which runs on hboot 1.58.... so since youre s-on you have to use this file and run it then you can go about customizing it

He said he flashed the RUU successfully and the phone still wouldn't boot. I have no way to confirm that's true but if it is I don't think flashing anything else is going to help him at this point and he should at least get someone at Sprint to look at the phone since presumably it's been reset back to stock.

I have no way to confirm that's true but if it is I don't think flashing anything else is going to help him at this point and he should at least get someone at Sprint to look at the phone since presumably it's been reset back to stock.

There is no RUU available yet that will work with the 2.95 update installed which is apparently how you go the phone. You can either get S-OFF and then flash the original RUU and take the two OTA updates, or try flashing one of the stock ROM's in this post. If you want to go back to almost 100% stock and unrooted you will need to flash the unrooted version of the stock ROM and then flash the stock recovery.
The one thing that won't be stock in that scenario is the bootloader since if you lock it the status will show "relocked" rhater than "locked".

You need to install the HTC drivers. Which version of Windows are you using?
Getting S-OFF with hboot 1.58 installed is still uncharted territory for VM users. I suggest you check out the related threads in this forum and post there for help since there are a lot of Evo V 4G users there that can help. They are actually looking for someone in your situation who is willing to try getting S-OFF so I'm sure you will get lots of help.

Great!
How did you do it?

I flashed viper Rom (don't remember which one) and that gave me stock kernel. Then, I downloaded a .zip file with the drivers to the phone and used the jbear program to s-off. Then , I put 1.04.200 hboot and used the ruu to bring me back to stock. Updated my phone and I am all good. If I get all the folders together might make a tutorial on how to get s-off even after taking the OTS updates on s-on. Or prob. You can hel0 me ramjet73?

Well, we already have guides on both XDA and androidforums.com and the unlimited.io developers that created JuopunutBear have gotten very sensitive about having instructions posted in other places.
I'm curious how you did the wire trick since the Windows downloads are no longer on the unlimited.io website. Did you use an existing guide? At this point we are just trying to figure out what is the best version of JBear to use after VM users have installed the March OTA and have hboot 1.58.

I'm not sure ? I have the folder though , I can send it to you and you can take a look at it?

Yea, just for the jbear portion. I'd appreciate it if you can zip it up and upload it to dropbox or similar and PM the link to me.
As I said, at this point we are just trying to determine which jbear version works best with the Evo V updated to the March OTA and hboot 1.58. If the most effective process warrants a new guide I will be happy to work with you on that.
