[Q] Haptic Feedback and battery life. - Fascinate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I know this is probably more a general question rather than a Fascinate one, but I troll these boards more often so here goes.
I did a Google search on it and saw some very differing opinions on the subject, but just to re-rattle some brains, how much do you all think haptic feedback affects battery life? Obviously there are many variables on this (amount used etc.) but overall is it a noticeable difference if disabled?
Let the debate begin.

well... it takes energy for your phone to vibrate right? i'm sure that will affect battery life...

[Req] LED Flash with Ring

I don't know if this is possible but thought it would be cool if it could be done.
Would it be possible to have the LEDs for the camera to flash when the phone rings? I know the phone would have to be face down but mine is actually quite a bit. Thanks in advance for anyone willing to look into this and see if its even possible.

that would be cool but such a battery hog
I don't think it would use very much battery with it being an LED. I could be wrong though.

That would be good for the disabled (deaf).
Yea. I didn't even think about that. I was mainly thinking for at night when my kids are sleeping and my phone is turned down real low.

Undervolting

I am interested in undervolting to save some battery life. But don't know much about it. If you use system tuner pro could you screen shot some good stable settings?
Thank you

Read up on undervolting. Everyone had a different phone.what is stable for one person might not be stable got your phone. you got to learn the limits of your phone.

The best way to undervolt is to set your values and use the phone for a day or two. If it runs normal without freezing or resetting etc... Low the values a little more then use it for another couple days. Just got little by little and eventually you'll have it stable but still saving a ton of bat life. Personally i like to use setcpu and have it limit the cpu to like 400ghz with the display off. It makes the phone lag if you're trying to listen to music with the screen off but i don't do that very often. Saved me a decent amount of bat life on my OC'd atrix

Battery life post pics :)

Sup guys so i didn't see one.of these threads so im making.one if you guys want post pics or just write down the amount of battery life you get, which Rom, what tweak, screen time and total life on a single charge and the size of the battery being used and heavy moderate or light use
Lets see who has the best battery skils

saurom wins best battery in my books
i went on a craze testing different roms specifically for battery life. the best battery i got was using saurom gb rom. 1.5 days!! i would say i was aiming for light/moderate usage at the time.
i got decent usage on seraphim ics rom, more on the heavy usage side when i was testing this rom. little over 12hrs. i love it graphically and how smooth ics is, but since im on my phone alot saurom suited my power taste better.
to save as much battery as possible, my config:
- antutu battery saver app
- brightness always at a minimum
- vibrate always off, silent at office, sound only everywhere else
- screen filter app in the dark
- wifi off (test purposes, its a given u'll save more when on wifi)
- auto sync off (im always on it so refreshing apps i need on the fly was good enough, i dont always need to know who emails or facebooks me every sec)

SCREEN ON time people. IMO the most important stat you can post for these battery threads. Who cares if you phone lasts 17 days...but the screen was only on for 5 mins.
My best is just over 4 hours. Haven't quite gotten that again tho.

Agree. Screen time should be 90% determination. Here are mine. I'll be able to get to 4 hours screen time with Juice Defender and RootDim.

Eco Mode

I noticed we don't have any threads about Eco Mode. I would like to hear other users feedback / experiences?
My experience:
I turned on Eco Mode earlier this morning and haven't notice any difference performance wise. Battery wise I have seen about a 10% difference to what I would be about now. (10 hours and down to 65%, whereas I probably would be down to ~55%). From what I understand Eco Mode shuts down 2 cores, essentially making it a dual-core. I ran two quadrants (Not that these matter) with Eco Mode off 7500, and with Eco Mode on 5500 (2000 difference). I also played some games and couldn't notice anything. Honestly, I wouldn't even be able to tell if it was on or off without doing a quadrant.
Based on my experience with Eco Mode I would recommend it be turned on. At the end of a charge cycle there is potential to save 20% battery life at no cost to performance (visually). As always YMMV.
For the most part I don't see much difference. I know the phone runs cooler most of the time and a tad bit more battery life. A little bit if screen lag sometimes with it on. Most of what you will ever do with this phone won't need 4 cores so it's a nice addition.

The thing is, they need the source code for that. Don't think LG has given up the source code for their kernel yet.

I hope we see this as well. I read a review of the Nexus 4 a bit ago over at Ars Technica, at one point they compared the performance of it to our LGOG and found the Nexus 4 faster "out the gate" but would stutter after being under load for a while (think playing a somewhat graphically intensive game). The reviewer concluded the kernels used in the Nexus 4 allowed the processor to run full boar without much of a governor so it would start to approach the thermal barrier and subsequently hindering performance. The LGOG kernels, however, were more restricted and allowed for more substantiated performance, resulting in better battery life and a cooler phone.
See review here:
arstechnica.com/gadgets/2012/11/nexus-4-two-thirds-of-a-great-phone/
I remember reading that article, too. I don't think LG gets enough credit for their Android "skin" and the thought they put into this phone. It's not perfect, but they did a really good job in my opinion.
A
I really do believe that Google rushed android 4.2. They should have added some kind of power management to the Nexus 4...
that which the hardware people giveth...the software people taketh away.
or...
you may not need all four cores today, but before end of life i'll bet you're glad you have em. i remember folks saying "what on earth would you need 512K of RAM for?" and "Why did you get a 100GB Hard Drive, you'll never need all that space."
Will Eco Mode keep your phone in dual-core mode no matter what, or does it dynamically turn cores on/off based on what you're doing?
It's dynamic AFAIK.

In that case, there seems like there is no reason NOT to have this enabled.
Just plugged in. With eco mode I got 1 day 45 minutes, with 3 hours 35 minutes screen on time. Much better than what I normally get.

That still sucks IMO. There still need to be major optimizations to AndroidOS. No way it should be my biggest battery user every day.

The os is the biggest battery user only because the screen is using very little power by comparison, skewing percentages.

It's not deep sleeping the way it should...If you use 3.5 hours of screen time, that should be your highest consumer of battery power, by far.

I don't see where he showed the battery stats during that day of activity. So how do you know it's not the biggest source of power drain? Am I missing something here?

I would be guessing as many people have complained about AndroidOS being out of control. However, what I was referencing was my post just above that where I said AOS should never be "MY" biggest source of battery consumption. If I get 3.5 hours of screen-on time, the battery would necessarily use more power than anything else unless there is an issue. No matter when I measure the battery stats, android os is the biggest consumer of battery. Right now I have 5hrs 35mins of charger. 23% screen power consumption with 2hrs 5 mins on time. However, I've 41% android battery consumption with on time of 3hrs 43 mins. It's a ROM or kernel thing. Not blaming our devs, they're doing the best with what they have released to them. However, there is something wrong as we should all be getting better battery life than we are with this size battery.
Sent from my LG-E970 using xda app-developers app
After having several android devices, I know that if screen on time is over 2.5 hours it should always be the highest battery usage. Also, Android OS should never be above 20%. If it is, there is a problem.
Sent from my LG-E970 using xda premium
If you look at battery posts from nexus 4 users. You will see their android os % at about 6 where ours is usually 40%. Its definitely a software issue.
