Can't install 3rd party apps on RAZR MAXX - Motorola Droid RAZR

For some reason I can't install non market apps on my MAXX. The insall button is greyed out and I can only press cancel. Yes unknown sources is checked and I've tried rebooting but nothing helps any clue what's going on?

Have you tried installing any other third party apps
Ask us any Android Related Question @FeraLabsDevs on Twitter or @HowToMen

Do you have to check usb debugging checked?

I also have the same problem as he does on my Razr (910). My solution is to use on of the older fastboostfiles prior the 2.3.6 OTA update.

Are you using Screen Adjuster or any other app to correct screen color tint? If so, disable it and voilà.

Thanks for the replies. I ended up just using android injector to install what I needed and flashed the Axiom ROM and everything's straight now. Thanks again!

Hero !!! Fixed the problem, thanks ^^

I too have been having same issue but not using any of the apps listed here. Through a trail and error process of elimination, I was able to determine that the WhoIsIt app was the culprit.
When I could not click install on non-market apps (including Amazon) I did a force stop on WhoIsIt and bingo I was able to click install right away!!
Hope this helps others still having problems.

Thanks for your response. Great!! I just followed your steps and Rebooted my devices and its WORKING!!
Many thanks for getting things resolved. Its been the major problem with my device.
I Tried googling and found in many forums that its due to some unsigned apps that causing the problem. Just wondered, how clearing the media contents resolved this one.
Could you please provide the scene behind media storage and please let me know hoe could this solves the issue.

Hi There, It seems like temporary fix for this issue. When the media app has some data in it, this problem reproduced. is there any permanent way to get rid of it?
Am in GB2.3.5, very sooner, i will get ICS 4.0.4 in my device. will that solve this problem?

I use an app called screen filter at night to darken my screen. I have found that the install button won't function when screen filter is engaged, disengage it and the install

Here's the thing for me though... I don't use a screen filter. I have always just used the display timer in the device's settings. And I do have "Unknown Sources" enabled. It just stopped working though.
I tried the Media Storage fix, but it didn't work, before or after rebooting.

UPDATE: Figured it out! Of all things, it was a Clipboard app that I recently installed, called "Copy Bubble". Thanks though!
I had the same situation, I mean when I tried to install any apps with unknown source I had active cancel button and inactive install button.
After wipe and install clean rom everything was OK so I was sure that issue was by my installed apps. In this case: Lux Auto Brithness. After freezing this apps - install button is active.
Screen filtering apps causes this issue.
I believe they add layer and android disables INSTALL considering security..
If clearing data for media storage seems like temporary fix, then no permanent fix(?) is there instead removing the app thats causing the screen overlay (Unless devs find one and they will):good:
In my case it was EDGE MASK app's rounded corners effect that was causing issue.. Disabled it and worked..
Google for screen filtering apps and find your's..

What's preventing me from installing APK files?

I can select the file but when u press the "install" button, NOTHING happens. The "cancel" button works fine.
I have my phone to install files from unknown sources. Tried with both usb debugging on and off to.
What gives? Any suggestions welcome.
(Stock/odexed LPG with JKay 14.1.1, rooted with Speedmod kernel k3-27t.)
Just to clarify, I'm not a newbie, and I appear to have more than enough free space on all drives.
Wipe both your caches and see if that makes a difference.

WTF?!
I turned "screen filter" off and they all worked!
Why does that affect anything? That is very strange! Should I have known that? I assumed it didn't do ANYTHING except dim my screen!
Out of curiosity, why does it affect the installation of apps, and DOES IT AFFECT ANYTHING ELSE I/WE SHOULD BE AWARE OF? ?
Thanks to everyone that responded!

Yeah, that is the weirdest thing! I might have never figured that out if u hadn't told me!
(I also had trouble installing Swype Beta, which I posted for help about a few months back, and I assume this was the same problem I was having but never figured out. I tried it so many times I guess I finally had Screen Filter off when it finally worked)

Can't find "Install from Unknown Source" option in settings (Jelly Bean)?

Hey guys!
Trying to recover some of my apps on my new Jelly Bean ROM but Titanium says it can't because installing apps from unknown sources is blocked. So I go to Security in settings and theres nothing there to allow manual app installs...in fact, the option is no where in settings.
Are we not allowed to install apps from outside the App Store or is this setting something that is just missing?

What do you mean by looking in Birds nest/lock screen/security? What is the Birds Nest you are referring too/ Sorry for the no0b question. I'm having the same issue as the OP trying to reinstall some of my apps that I backed. I have the latest 4.2.2 Jellybean and I have the Unknown Sources checked, and the Verify Apps unchecked. When I tried to install my back up paid apps, I get a error saying "not installed." These are my legit apps that are tied to my account that I paid for. It will let me install the free apps like facebook etc. I just don't understand. Anyways, I didn't want to make anew thread so I figure i asked hear. I been trying to figure this out. Thanks!

Apparently you gotta touch the four corners on the select language screen. Works on AOSP, might not work on skinned Android versions.

take sim card out, then bypass activation screen. go through Setup Wizard skipping/opting out of everything via Next/Skip/No. at end of setup, you will see Home screen. from there you can run apps, etc.
i had the sim card installed still. when i bypassed the activation screen, i only had access to Settings on the phone.
Glad you solved it.:good:

[Solved] [Q] Ignore app state option no longer available, 2.8 beta 2

I noticed a few days ago that Facebook was no longer hibernating when I shut off my screen. It turns out that the option to ignore app state is no longer available, which I was using to hibernate apps like Facebook that always show up as working. Is there a reason for this? Because this option is not available, Greenify will no longer auto-hibernate Facebook. Currently running on a rooted Nexus 6P.

Either Facebook or N6P should be the reason if it is not working for you. Most likely Facebook.

I'm an idiot. You have to manually hibernate a working app before it gives you the option to ignore running state permanently. Thanks for your help, everybody!
I am on 2.8.1 with root mode. I don't seem to find the manual hibernate option to ignore app state. I got this app that's abusing the state and shows "working" all the time.

Xposed doesn't have anything to do with this option. I hope you are running it in root or boost mode.
You may not get this option on the App Analyzer screen. When you are on the main screen of Greenify and this app is shown as running, touch it to highlight it. Then click the Zzzz button or the three dot menu, then 'hibernate now'. You should get a dialogue box containing some warnings and also a checkbox within it. Tick the checkbox, then click OK. That is all.
