Hi,
At the moment I am running stock v2.3.5 with custom kernal (Speedmod latest version).
- Today I got message about a new firmware update (I think), it was about 200 MB. Its downloading now, dont know much about it yet.
A have a few thoughts, What will this update do?
- Restore recovery to default?
- Restore kernal to default?
- Can I restore back to 2.3.5 with my existing backups?
I am quite satisfied with the stock fw now that I managed to install jKay Deluxe, havent thought about cfw yet.
Thx guys... This site rocks as usual... Everybody... Keep up the good work!!
It will restore kernel to stock and of course you can restore nandroids after you have flashed krrnel with cwm

Hello.
I am using a stock rom on my phone with cmw. As you many custom roms are released so i want to flash and try them. But the problem is that every time i flash a new rom, do i need to reinstall all the apps and do the settings? I mean that takes alot of time. Any way to backup and restore everything e.g apps, settings, data, sms etc? Last time when upgrading from stock 2.2.1 to stock 2.3.4 i had tried titanium backup feature for this but that didnt work,, everything got messed up and i had to flash the rom again

Hi guys, after a little patience I'm now very interested in ics upgrade.
My s2 runs kk5 stock rooted cause I don't wanna miss features like mhl tv-out.
So my doubts are:
Is possible to flash kp8 with mobileodin?
What about bootloader? Jig still working?
To switch back to kk5 restore nand backup is enough or also other needs to be downgraded?
Thanks.
Best regards,
Jussy.

Then i suggest you wait until it officially comes out rather than flashing a leaked version that isn't finished. Until it comes out you can read the faq's on here and familiarize yourself with flashing.
The current ics leaks and cm9 are both not really ready to be daily drivers due to instability and missing features, only try if you know what you are doing, if you are use you want to try, make sure to take a nandroid and read the relivent threads.

Thanks for your fast and kind reply.
I'll wait for a stable release.
I have KK5 stock and rooted using cfroot kernel with the old jig compatible bootloader as my favourite firmware.
I also have been using cm9 which I like a lot. The missing features and bugs don't effect my daily usage.
I never flashed the ics bootloader and never experienced any problems.
I made a backup of kk5 via CWM and flashed cm9 then gapps then faceunlock then wiped as directed in cm9 1st post. Setup my phone how I wanted it then when I was happy with everything I made a backup via CWM of cm9.
Ive been restoring either KK5 or cm9 via CWM and so far not had any hassles flipping between them.
When I want to checkout a new version of cm9 ive been able to restore my CWM backup of cm9 then flash New version then flash gapps then faceunlock then wipe cache. This has not wiped my cm9 setup and data and all has been good to use. No FC etc.
Hope this helps.

Hey everyone
A little while ago I jumped on the ICS bandwagon and flashed my villainrom 2.5-toting Optus i9100 to WanamLite 8.9, via CWM Recovery.
its been buggy as hell and the phone has turned to garbage ever since, with random freezing, touch input not responding, et cetera.
my question is - should i have flashed to one of the leaked samsung ICS ROMs via ODIN before updating to wanamlite via CWM Recovery?
i remember back in the SGS days, when moving from 2.1/2.2 to 2.3, you had to flash a generic 2.3 ROM via ODIN before you could flash a custom one. flashing a gingerbread darky's ROM over a froyo custom ROM directly using CWM caused all kinds of problems.
now that the official Samsung XXLPQ ICS is out, i want to flash to a pre-rooted version of it with CF-Root kernel (the ones that wanam himself has uploaded). but should i flash via ODIN to an official ICS first, and then root + flash the wanam custom version, just like i had to do when going from 2.2 to 2.3 on my original SGS?

If i helped please consider clicking yes, thats what my dog always wanted ! Sent from under my bed
Sorry for the previous post i clicked it while it ways empty by wrong
Just get ur phone into download mode and flash the stock jpq
After that do wipe cache and factory and ull be good to go
isn't the problem with doing that the fact that the bootloader will be upgraded as well, meaning i can't reset the flash counter with my USB jig anymore?

Not really needed .
But this is what i always do with any major upgrade or new custom rom .
titanium backup and nandroid backup
Wipe.format system data cache .
Install stock rom of same version
Root with CWM and Root kernel.
Flash new rom .
result no problems .
jje
Restore backed up apps .
I have the following Galaxy s2:
PDA: XXKH3| Modem/phone: XXKH3| CSC: OXAKH3
Rooted and Siyah Kernel.
I was wondering if there is a way to get ICS update through Samsung Kies (when I plug the phone in it keeps telling me it's up to date)?
I want to keep all my setting and data.
I know it's possible to do it through Odin but all my apps and data will be erased
If there is no way to update using Kies what is the best/latest stock ICS firmware available now? Which one will get the latest updates first?
you can backup your apps and data using Titanium backup and flash a Custom ICS rom from CWM
latest stock is XWLP9 and reported very stable...you can get it from here Rooted and CWM flashable : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1292825
don't really want to keep backing up the app every time there is an update. I just want to go back to stock...

You answered it your self, custom ROM......
Stock is buggy. Dxlp9 is good
I kind of want to go completely stock as I mentioned so when new version of Android comes out I can just update using Kies. Don't really want to deal with all backup and restores.
FYI, there is no guarantee a Kies update won't screw up either though. Always a good idea to back up before an upgrade, be it a Kies update, or an Odin flash. And if you're going from stock to stock with an Odin flash, that won't wipe your phone anyways. (still a good idea to wipe anyways, though...)
Hi Guys!
Im a little bit confused. I made a backup from GB and restored it after some ICS custom rom.
The ICS has 3. kernel after the backup I got back the old 2.6 kernel how is it work the kernel change in the recovery?
I have XU/LB
