Is there any place to download the stock kernel for the GT Wifi? Or is there a way to back up the current kernel? I looked around and couldn't find anything about this. Reason I ask is because i want to install pershoot's O/C kernel but I want to have a backup of the stock kernel incase I need to revert to stock. In case it helps, I have the KG6 version.
Thanks

If you're running stock kernel now, you can make a nandroid backup in cmw, then go ahead and flash Pershoots kernel. Then if you wanna go back to stock kernel you can go into cmw/backup and restore/advanced restore, choose the backup that you made and then just restore boot and you'll be back on stock kernel.
thanks. I didn't realize that nandroid also backs up the kernel. I thought I read somwhere that it didn't. Gonna go flash now! Thanks!h
Hi,
At the moment I am running stock v2.3.5 with custom kernal (Speedmod latest version).
- Today I got message about a new firmware update (I think), it was about 200 MB. Its downloading now, dont know much about it yet.
A have a few thoughts, What will this update do?
- Restore recovery to default?
- Restore kernal to default?
- Can I restore back to 2.3.5 with my existing backups?
I am quite satisfied with the stock fw now that I managed to install jKay Deluxe, havent thought about cfw yet.
Thx guys... This site rocks as usual... Everybody... Keep up the good work!!
It will restore kernel to stock and of course you can restore nandroids after you have flashed krrnel with cwm

Im pretty sure you can install the Siyah kernal to Shostock however I would install this Kernal Cleaner http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1428530 before you do though.
I would guess if you do your backup through CWM it completely restores the way your operates kernal and all. If your not sure, run the Kernal cleaner.
response
Yes, you can flash the siyah kernel rc5 to shostock because i did it, and you just have to make a nandroid backup through CWM so in case you want to go back to GB you restore it and you will have your phone exactly as you did before, with your old kernel and everything else.

Hi everyone, first post here..
Phone: GS2 running 4.0.4 (ZSLPQ)
I just installed speedmod K3-32. It has given me root access and I have been deleting some useless apps that came with the phone using Titianium Backup. I know that speedmod is a kernal and that it is completely different with CyanogenMod. However, I want to know what do I need to install CyanogenMod? If I want to create a backup of my stock (current rom), do I need to reinstall the old (useless) apps?
Thanks in advance

No, there is no need to install the old (useless) apps to create a nandroid Bkp of ur stock rom.
CynogenMod is a rom (firmware) and it comes with its own kernel, so if u flash cynogenmod rom (CM9 (ics based) or CM10(jelly bean based) the kernel which comes along with them will replace ur exsisting Speedmod kernel

Thank you
What happens to say my photos and text messages when I install cyanogenMod?
Oh and if the CyanogenMod kernal replaces the SpeedMod kernal, wouldn't I lose root?

Photos are on internal SD, so they will be safe; text messages will be wiped.
CM is rooted by default, and SpeedMod doesn't work with CM (per the SpeedMod FAQ) anyways.
Hi all,
It is my first post.
I used Bionix-V FishmanMod ROM for more than a year.
I wanted to upgrade to CM10.1. So, I flashed CM7.2, made a nandroid backup and flashed CM10.1.
The CM10.1 drains my battery.
I want to test the CM7.2 ROM.
How to downgrade to CM7.2 without Odin to stock? I read (at Defy forum) that need to change file extension to ext3.
Should I do this on Vibrant too?
Can I just restore the CM7.2 backup?
Thanks
try flashing a cm7 kernel before restoring your cm7.2, if that doesnt work you may have to use odin.
