Hi all,
It is my first post.
I used Bionix-V FishmanMod ROM for more than a year.
I wanted to upgrade to CM10.1. So, I flashed CM7.2, made a nandroid backup and flashed CM10.1.
The CM10.1 drains my battery.
I want to test the CM7.2 ROM.
How to downgrade to CM7.2 without Odin to stock? I read (at Defy forum) that need to change file extension to ext3.
Should I do this on Vibrant too?
Can I just restore the CM7.2 backup?
Thanks
try flashing a cm7 kernel before restoring your cm7.2, if that doesnt work you may have to use odin.

Im pretty sure you can install the Siyah kernal to Shostock however I would install this Kernal Cleaner http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1428530 before you do though.
I would guess if you do your backup through CWM it completely restores the way your operates kernal and all. If your not sure, run the Kernal cleaner.

Yes, you can flash the siyah kernel rc5 to shostock because i did it, and you just have to make a nandroid backup through CWM so in case you want to go back to GB you restore it and you will have your phone exactly as you did before, with your old kernel and everything else.

I flashed CM7 using ODIN and everything went perfectly. I have had a few issues with my new rom but it is still much better than stock. Now That im thinking about upgrading to cm9, i need to make a nandroid back up. Do I flash CWM in rom manager and make a nandroid that way? secondly, can i install cm9 over cm7 or do i need to revert back to stock then flash cm9?
Check out droidstyles guide to flashing from stock

if I restore my phone back to stock via my nandroid backup, will it go back to 2.3.4? knowing this would greatly help me, because I'd like to flash the newest CM7 RC1, right now I have RC0
A nandroid does not change the kernal.

As I recall if you are on cm7 rc0 you can flash cm7 rc1 over it, just as you can flash cm9 over cm7 rc1. And all btw are based on the 2.3.4 kernel. Now if you flash a rom that uses the 2.3.5 kernel and you want to get back to the 2.3.4 or vice-a-versa it's sbf time.
And if I got it wrong its because of old age or medication or something...lol as with any major changes your planning for your phone educate yourself first.

hmm, it says 2.3.7 in "about phone"
however, it was 2.3.4 before I got cm7
is it 2.3.7? or is that just what it says?
thanks for any help you all can provide
If your on cm7dx2 rc0 you can flash cm7dx2 rc1 over it with no problems. Just make sure to reflash gapps and your good. Also the 2.3.7 thing is just from the build prop edit if you are on cm7dx2 you are on actual 2.3.4 kernel.

thanks everyone, I was able to update it with no problem
I just rooted my DX2, i intended to use rom manager to flash/backup my roms but that was not working. So i downloaded bootstrap (the little green arrow icon) and used that to make a backup of my stock system and then used titanium backup to backup all my apps.
What i wanted to know is when i finally install a new rom and do a data wipe how do i recover everything if it starts me with a clean phone? do i just reinstall titanium and bootstrap and will SU still be installed?
Also can you point me to a good guide on installing CM9 to my DX2?
Thank you,
Jake
A couple of things. What system version are you on? 2.3.4 or 2.3.5? Also Rom Manager doesnt work for us (as you know now.) Are you using the BSR from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1318083 ?
When you install a ROM yes you reinstall the BSR (but if you are going on CM7-9-10 then you need the CM7 patched BSR once on the ROM.) and then Redownload Titanium Backup. All your backups are stored on your external card so a wipe doesnt get rid of them. Once titanium is loaded back up it will find them.
A rom comes rooted so SU and everything is part of the package. Install instructions for ROMS are on the original page of the ROMS. Just note that if you are on 2.3.5 the only ROM that will work for you is Eclipse. All the other ROMs are 2.3.4 based.

I got BSR from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1169677
I am on 2.3.5, is eclipse a good rom?
Thanks,
Jake
Eclipse is a very stable and clean ROM. I used it for a long time. CM7 is also stable and a.lot.more customizable but you will need to SBF to 2.3.4 to get on it. Both eclipse and CM7 are gingerbread roms. Cm9, MIUI, AOKP Paranoid Android are ICS and CM10 is jellybean.

Thanks for recommending Eclipse, its a really awesome ROM. At some point i plan to SBF to 2.3.4 for CM10, but for now Eclipse is better than stock.
Thank you,
Jake
Eclipse is rock solid. CM10 will get more stable eventually.

Idk much about cm7 but I suggest moving to something newer like cm10.1 (4.2.2) you wont be disappointed its fast, more stable than any GB ROM, and its on the latest version of android

(Solved) Running CM
Well something worked, I'm running CM. I went and re downloaded the rom and gapps directly to the phone and bam, things went off without a hitch, seems it was a major case of user error .
