I flashed CM7 using ODIN and everything went perfectly. I have had a few issues with my new rom but it is still much better than stock. Now That im thinking about upgrading to cm9, i need to make a nandroid back up. Do I flash CWM in rom manager and make a nandroid that way? secondly, can i install cm9 over cm7 or do i need to revert back to stock then flash cm9?
Check out droidstyles guide to flashing from stock

Hi all i flashed miui last night and things did not go so well i followed this guide and flashed CI500_VZW_EB01_FROYO to revert to stock but how can i confirm that everything is completely back, im mostly wondering about the kernel is that stock?
Thanks!
Well, if you odined the EB01 package and it was successful, then you're on stock with the stock kernel. Odining that full package completely wipes all system data.
If you really want to be sure, go to settings > About phone and check to make sure the baseband is EB01 and Android version is 2.2 or 2.1 and not 2.3.
If it booted fine then you're "stock". But I think the ed01 packages only include ec30 modem. So you wouldn't wanna take it to the store or send it back that way.
good day. using xda premium.
Thanks everyone I'm back to stock

I am currently on the SS-10 Miui rom for the vibrant. I was wondering if I am able to back my current state and flash a 2.2 Froyo rom without any problems. If I were to backup both, would I be able to go between each backups without any hiccups? Thank you.
Miui comes with a back up app made specifically for backing up miui.
And to answer your main question ....absolutely NOT....wont happen, can't do it.
But you can try what you like....I see odin in your near future
When coming from MIUI you have to odin back to stock before flashing a froyo rom. And restoring backups between those two aren't possible anyways because rom manager backups don't include the kernel or the modem.

thank youu
if I restore my phone back to stock via my nandroid backup, will it go back to 2.3.4? knowing this would greatly help me, because I'd like to flash the newest CM7 RC1, right now I have RC0
A nandroid does not change the kernal.

As I recall if you are on cm7 rc0 you can flash cm7 rc1 over it, just as you can flash cm9 over cm7 rc1. And all btw are based on the 2.3.4 kernel. Now if you flash a rom that uses the 2.3.5 kernel and you want to get back to the 2.3.4 or vice-a-versa it's sbf time.
And if I got it wrong its because of old age or medication or something...lol as with any major changes your planning for your phone educate yourself first.

hmm, it says 2.3.7 in "about phone"
however, it was 2.3.4 before I got cm7
is it 2.3.7? or is that just what it says?
thanks for any help you all can provide
If your on cm7dx2 rc0 you can flash cm7dx2 rc1 over it with no problems. Just make sure to reflash gapps and your good. Also the 2.3.7 thing is just from the build prop edit if you are on cm7dx2 you are on actual 2.3.4 kernel.

I want to install this ROM to my phone:

and this kernel:

I recently had gotten my phone stuck at the SAMSUNG logo because of a voodoo issue, but have since resolved it.
What I did was:
1. Flash over a stock DI01 image over ODIN which put me on 2.1
2. Using the guide on the cyanogenmod wiki, flash CWM over Heimdall
3. Wiped Data and Cache and then attempted to flash the ROM through CWM
But a little bit in the phone reboots and gets stuck at the SAMSUNG logo again so I had to restore to stock, again.
So now I am at stock 2.1 I haven't been in the android scene for a long time and I forget a lot about flashing ROM's. Could someone please point out the proper way to do this?

Thanks, i'll give that a try.
In case you were wondering, what you were doing wrong was that you tried to go directly from Gingerbread to ICS without flashing THS build 1 first. Also, that kernel is for GB, not ICS.
Hi all,
It is my first post.
I used Bionix-V FishmanMod ROM for more than a year.
I wanted to upgrade to CM10.1. So, I flashed CM7.2, made a nandroid backup and flashed CM10.1.
The CM10.1 drains my battery.
I want to test the CM7.2 ROM.
How to downgrade to CM7.2 without Odin to stock? I read (at Defy forum) that need to change file extension to ext3.
Should I do this on Vibrant too?
Can I just restore the CM7.2 backup?
Thanks
try flashing a cm7 kernel before restoring your cm7.2, if that doesnt work you may have to use odin.
