For some reason the SD slot or USB slot are not showing me the devices in them from my keyboard. When I insert an SD card or reader into the USB port, nothing happens. It worked a few days ago. I have rebooted a few times. Any suggestions?
Im in Thailand on vacation and was planning on using it to back up my photos, this is not good if they are no longer going to work.
Did you format it NTFS or something like that? Needs to be FAT32.
Thats not correct. The Prime can read NTFS just fine.

Have you used the mount option under Settings --> Storage? I needed to activate it there, then it showed up in the filemanager.
One device is a USB external HDD that worked a few days ago when I connected it and the other SD card is from a Sony camera that has images on it.
Both worked in the past. Really weird.
I see two options in the external storage and tried both without any luck.
BTW - the USB HDD gets power when plugged in, the light on it lights up but the tablet does not see it.
sta
to update everyone, I did a factory refresh on the prime hoping that it would fix it, but it looks like the dock is bad? Im typing on it now though, just the external storage ports will not work.
Now Im in Bangkok without enough CF cards for my camera now that I will not be able to back them up onto an external HDD.
I either need to find a dock in Bangkok or more CF cards to last 10 more days (today was day one).
Not very happy with this Tablet and dock right now...

For playing with all this stuff here I'm seeking a PCMCIA card that I can use as card reader. Any recommendations?
why not as usb bet those would be waaaaaayyyy cheaper
Is and SD cardreader suitable for writing bootable SDs?

For one, I hate having hanging all sort of stuff on my two USB ports
or using a hub would require extra cabling, wall outlet power supply etc.
Second, my USB is 1.0 not 2.0 (I believe) and last but not least I'm not sure whether a USB card reader is compatible with the method of physical access required for SD formatting.
If you know of one, plese fill me in.
well you dont need to have the sdreader connected when you are not using it
not all sdcard readers use external psu's non of mine does
usb1 and 2 are backwards and forward compatible with eachother
generaly i think the prices of the pcmcia's are at least 2 times that of the usb ones
and the pcmcia ones i've seen only support SD and maybe mmc
where the usb readers mostly support 12 different flash times at once

Thanks. I got one for 11 €, UCR-61, Made in China.
Success! I flashed my device, after exchanging the motherboard this morning.
As already mentioned I has a spare device with broken display which I
recently bought for experimenting purposes.
With that MB (which contained a WM 2002 BTW, I was able to flash one of the ROMS from lumpistefans site.
Now the SD seems to be formatted in some way so that the OS always ask to format the device when I insert it. Hhhm. I had my Tomtom and a backup on it. Weird.
Also it is no longer recognized (now after I used it for ROM flashing) as a Windows file system when I insert it into the USB SD reader.
Someone should have told me that the filesystem structure gets blown away when using for flashing
well i think most people know that making the sd card a bootable self install delete everything on the card goes without saying
but of cause whats obvious to some may not be so for everybody
you can use pocket mechanics to format the card if you want
I'll tell you a strange issue (additional to the already mentioned on other posts) of the micro SD, I found and tested it today, and i have not resolved it yet.
ISSUE:
without notice, the phone is switched on etc, shows the notification "SD Removed, Please enter a new one", I thought it was strange since I had changed the micro with another, a san disk 16gb HC, nothing of strange.
i restart the phone, but the notification does not go away. i begin to be worried, 'cause it usually disappears.
I remove the backpanel, the secure of microsd and take it off.
So far nothing abnormal belief, and reinsert it.
The phone still does not see the new microsd.
i was in street so didn't proceed with further testing and i messd up for a while. arrived home i tried with 3 other microsd, the default supplied by LG, with still the old data within, and no one of them were detected
NEW two maxell 2gb microSD, HC always, are not detected.
I thought it was a pin problem, but keeping the vertical microsd clearly known that the pins are aligned correctly
(1 + 1 + 2 + 1 + 1 + 1 + 1 + 1).
restarting the phone with and without early MicroSim they are not recognized.
The PC and other phones are working properly.
I also made a restore procedure from privacy-settings, but still no sign of life.
any suggestion?

mine problem as i told is not an unmount problem but the absolute not detection mode, i tried the cards on another phone, all of them works.
by the way today i pick up the battery, and i looked for the little white warranty sticker, and it is a f****' pale pink!
the phone had no contact with water or everything like that, so it's impossible that i burned my warranty in this f****' way!
by the way i think is an hware problem, and i think is caused from some components on the little board on the upper side of the phone where are the antenna, speakers, vibrator engine, and the sd slot.
I had similar problem, my LG came up with error message that the micro sd card was damaged, i tried 3 different card and always had the same message.
I took my 16Gb sandisk card out of the phone and to a card reader.
The card worked perfectly on my PC so i started to take a backup of the card and then run some problem diagnostic tool and thank god, it finished and promped that some errors where fixed.
Since than it has worked perfectly in my optimus one...

let me understand better, u ran the diagnostic tools on for the SD card or for the lg optimus one?, and if the second, can u post, send pm, with the link of them? Many many anyways for the answer =)
I simply ran the diagnostic tools on the sd card conected to my pc via usb card reader in win7. I was about to give up on this when i decided to try this, tough i didn't think it would actually work. but it did.....
someone at LG should look into this, my friend experienced exacly the same problem with optimus GT540. it was after installing some custom rom in his case, but i still have the original firmware, i haven't done any hacks but rooting, wich i don't belive could cause this problem...
oh, and i hope i am making my self clear, my english is not perfect since it's not my first language..
I do confirm.
This happened on my new phone.
Without any reason.
is there another way to transfer pics, roms and etc to the internal sd card and the external sd card other then using this horrible MTP junk? its taken me 10 mins to transfer 3 pictures to my external sd card using the MTP crap. this is driving me nuts. i am starting to hate this phone because its so complicated to transfer anything to the damn sd cards on this phone. i want mass storage back. so much quicker
so nobody has this issue like i do? i cant seem to transfer nothing to my internal or external sd card. even if i get lucky and it does start to transfer, im gonna be waiting at least 15 to 20 mins just to transfer some pictures
How are you doing the transfer? When I plug in my phone, it shows up in "My Computer" just like a disk. I double click my way to the right location and just drag and drop. simple. I was worried because of all the fuss over not supporting UMS, but I think this works as well or better.
One issue I did have was the usb cable I was using. The only one that works for me is the charging cable that came with the phone. If you're usng anything else, try using that cable.
Yes MTP is total crap compared to mass storage, but it's all we really got so...
i plug my phone into my windows 7 pc. it shows my phone, then i click on it and it shows me my internal sd card and external sd card. then i click on my external sd card and drag my photos from the pc to the external sd card and it shows its transferring then it just gets stuck at one point. nothing i can do about it. here is some pics to show u. the one wallpaper i tried to transfer from the pc to my sd card was only 1.43mb and it wont transfer over. when i try to transfer a rom over. forget about it. nothing happens
Edit: the only way i can get my stuff transferred over is to put my external sd card in my gfs sensation 4g and transfer all my files from my pc to her phone. then when i am done i take my sd card out of her phone and put it back in mine. thats the only way i can do it so far. i was hoping there was an easier way but i guess not. this is bs if u ask me. i hate samsung for making this so complicated

That's what I do. I'm still on XP. Windows 7 is supposed to be better for this. Try the original cable.
thats all i have is the original cable. still no go. idk what up with it.
I had the same issue and turned out to be the two back usb ports I was using. The sgs3 didn't like them and would transfer extremely slow. Weird because I had no issues with my sgs2. I suggest trying different USB ports on your pc.

yep that did it for me.. that is soo odd lol. i used a different usb port in the front since i have 4 of them. now everything transfers pretty quick. thanks for that tip. i still think that is so odd though. :good:
Edit: i hit the thanks button for everyone that tried to help me out.
I'm glad that worked for you. Its very odd indeed but makes me feel better that I'm not the only one or that its not just my pc. Maybe we were using lower speed ports. In any case you should be good to go now and will just have to use those ports like me.

Hey all,
I thought I would share my findings to help others with the same issue.
Two days ago I kept catching glimpses of a card image in the notifications at the top of the screen, but it would only be for a second so I could not see what it was trying to tell me. But had a quick look and sd card seemed fine and all data was present on handset. A couple of hours later it popped up with "SD Card Unexpectedly Removed". I tried ejecting and reinserting, restarting device and turning off and removing battery all to no avail. So I did a quick search which showed this seemed to be quite a common issue, after reading many threads with people saying the sd card is corrupt or network providers saying it was software and to do a restore. I decided before all that hassle I would open the phone and check the circuitboard expecting it to be a dry solder joint. One thing I will point out that was different to some other users is the fact my sd card was not visible with the phone connected to the computer, so this may not solve all related issues.
THE FIX
Turn off phone, remove the battery, SIM card and sd card. Remove all screws except the one by the 3.5mm jack. Gently pull the white plastic trim that surrounds the card holders and battery but the top part with speaker and camera does not need removing. Once removed if you look to the left of the sd card holder you will see the ribbon that connects the sd card to the main circuit board and at the end of the ribbon is the connector. Mine was disconnected and was loose, even if yours is not loose it would be worth gently pulling it off and reconnecting it. Then reassemble in the reverse order.
This was a nice surprise in the sense it was a very simple fix. However when I mounted the sd card even directly in my pc it was not found, I assume that the loose connector floating about had probably shorted its connections and caused an issue with the sd card. After a handfuls of attempts at mounting it in my pc it was finally detected and I backed up all the data and reformatted the sd card, then copied the data back, mounted it in my phone and was happy to find it all working as expected.
I hope this information will help some of you out, as it was a simple fix to a simple issue and results from searching had no solutions, just lots of assumptions.
And what can I do
Hi
I read your articles and seem very good but u have a question.
I had the same issue and I saw that every time my phone said I hat message it creates in my sd card a folder named lost. I and then i saw that one part of my battery was going there, ti reconnect the phone with my sd card
I formatted my sd card and did all the things that I found in the Internetbut nnothing works and I just change my sd for another one I had and sincethere u ddon't have any other issue, but my computer detects very good my first sd card and I'm not sure how to fix it.
Any idea?
Regards
Recently ive just faced this issue, what I did is to insert my 32gb sd card in my PC and run CHKDISK, havent got any error while performing this, thereafter i inserted it in my phone & goodness till now this sd card error hasn't appear yet. (finger crossed).
Mine did something like this a few times and then the 32GB Sandisk class 10 card died. Couldn't get it to work in any device except Linux based Media player. Luckily managed to copy my nadroid backup and TB backup. Sent to Sandisk and they replaced it. There is already a thread about S3 damaging teh SD cards. May be the loose connection is what's causing the card to to end up dead.

Yeah,as mentioned I have seen a lot of issues about sd cards, this is the first issue I have had and thought it would be worth mentioning. There is little space when the case is together so it could easily still make contact and seem fine even if the connector has worked loose and cause all kinds of issues. As mentioned mine had the sd icon popping up every now and then before it actually failed. Some users seem to be going through a lot of sd cards with them failing on a regular bassis.
I've been using my 32gb card since my last phone which was the LG Optimus 3D it is a scandisk class 10 one. Anyway i took it out of the 3D and stuck it into my S3 i still have not had a problem. I did take it out a few times to put a rom in because i wiped my phone and didn't have a rom in the Sd card. Also i dropped my phone and replaced the whole front silver bumper bit the whole digitizer because i dropped my phone while playing basketball. It still works. It has been a year now it has been in two phones and still works great. I must be lucky..
I got mugged for the SD though i bought it last year for £60 from Argos a store in the UK. Now you can get them for half the price oh well.. I am waiting for the 128gb ones to come out so going to buy one lol..
today also my Sandisk Ultra HC I 32GB it's died, tomorrow I'll test with pc but no sign of life :crying: WTF samsung !!!
hey i have the same issue with an 32gb sd card, it was workking great and then i was getting the error about
"SD Card Unexpectedly Removed" and then i tried everything i could and my computer detect the sd card and it seems to be working normal but in my phone i have the error over and over again and it was draining my battery too, and the only thing i did was change to another 16gb sd card and this one is working.
maybe there is a problem with the 32gb sd cards
I have a 16GB Sandisk UHS-1 card and i have been getting this issue as well, and its becoming more and more frequent. Whenver it happens, the ringtones/notifications for certain apps like Gmail and Message get reset as the ringtones i set were stored in the sdcard. Also the photo frame app i have on my homescreen often resets to nothing as the pictures were also stored in the sdcard. Its really annoying because I can leave my phone sleeping, only to wake it up realizing my ringtones are all set to silent and my photo frame has been reset. At least i know its a common problem. damn you samsung!
Has anyone actually tried checking the connection on the ribbon as suggested? Mine has been fine since and works fine.

There is no way anyone would know you have opened it, the screws are all Philips instead of t6. As long as you use the correct screwdriver it won't damage the heads and will leave no sign of entery and it takes around 10 mins to complete. Or you could take it to Samsung to do but seems a lot of hassle for such a simple fix.
Also most people are rooted without concern of the warranty.
So there's no seals or stickers that are broken?

Nope, no sticker or seals and just so you know all screws to remove the back are identical, there are only two screws inside which are different but do not need removing for this. You only need a Philips screwdriver ( I used a ph00 x 40) as long as the screwdriver fits the screw well it will not damage the head. Once screws are out a flat head screwdriver or similar are helpfull to prise the back off.
Hi Guys,
A little feedback from my experience with this.
I too was experiencing the "Unexpectedly Removed" error on my 32GB Class10 Sandisk.
It was playing havok with my setup because I use a 8GB Ext4 Partition on the card, where I move 90% of my apps. (About 6GB of that is used by games + their "external" data), and it keeps my phone and FAT32 partition free for important stuff. (I use Link2SD and DirectoryBind)
The problem is, after the device wakes, Link2SD can't find any of the apps, so I can't start any of them, and I have to do a full reboot to get them back. :/
So, after searching and searching, I couldnt find a valid solution.
I tried with a 16GB class10 Samsung, and a 32GB Class10 Samsung card. Exact same setup. NO ISSUES.
Everything works perfectly.
Then I found this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1933743&page=2
Where most of them are experiencing this error with Sandisk cards.
Apparently, it's a known issue with Sandisk Cards (especially the 32GB models), and cards sold after December 2012 no longer experience this.
I have contacted Amazon.co.uk about replacing the card as it's only 2 months old, still waiting for their answer. Will update if anyones interested.
cheers

A curious question if I may.
Was this a SanDisk Ultra (UHS) card? Most (if not all) Android phones do not have a proper UHS-I driver today and, although the card is supposed to switch down automatically, that transition time can fool the OS sometimes.

I read something about UHS compatibility, so I got an SD-HC
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B007JTKLEK/ref=mp_s_a_1?qid=1357264092&sr=8-7&pi=SL75
Is it the same thing?
Hmmm. Ok, might be getting somewhere.
Any idea if these cards have an internal "power saving" system that maybe kicks in if voltage drops below a certain level?

Yes, the red and Grey SanDisk cards are UHS.
Yes, they definitely have controllers and the host device can command them (if it knows how). I know that they allow In System Programming (ISP) for updating firmware. They support auto-standby, power-off and sleep modes but am not certain if the card would switch without command. Check the SD link in my signature if you really need more info.

I tested my SanDisk 64GB Ultra card in a Note 2 and it had the same symptoms (Mine were worse, with the card locking up while playing music after a few minutes, causing mmc timeout errors in the kernel).
I switched to a Samsung 64GB Pro card and since then I haven't had any issue. It's also twice as fast.
The amount of headaches this SanDisk card gave me is insane, probably the last time I buy a card from them.
i have sandisk ultra class 10 32gb. try this setup. use minitool to reformat your card then set it the cluster size to 16kb.
for me so far so good. will test this in a couple of days.
So, tonight I was sitting here on my lunch break and thought I'd try something I've never tried. I have my dock with me (usually leave it at home) and decided to connect my HTC Vivid (Android 4.0.3) to my Prime's USB. When I did the phone asked if I wanted to just charge or mount as a disk drive. I told it disk. Anyway, I went into file manager it is not listed at all, not even as an SD card. I tried File Manager HD and the same thing. No notification came in as to let me know if an SD card has been inserted like it does when I put an SD card in the SD card slot of the dock. Is there a setting or some other parameter that needs to be changed on the Prime or phone? What I was going to do is transfer some pictures over to the Prime. Anybody have an answer?
Thanks
Oh ya, I tried it with USB debugging on and off on both devices.
