Hi guys,
sorry for my noob questions, but...
After a thousand times of flashing custom ROM's i decided to try the newest 2.3.6 stock ROM S5830DDKQ8. And I realized that... I forgot all procedure to do this. I read EmoBoiix3's tutorial and remembered, but I've found few problem, and I prefer to ask before flash my phone:
- where I can download ODIN 4.38, since megaupload is dead? (I google it, but... i'm not sure if the returned results for ODIN 4.38 are safe enough...)
- where I can download .ops file, since samfirmware is gone, and I didn't saw it anywhere in the sammobile.com? And I can't remember do I need .ops file since DDKQ8 is one package ROM?
- currently I'm with Maclaws CM9 beta 5. I installed KIES just to make sure that my PC has got all needed Samsung drivers. And when trying to connect with KIES it always says that this is impossible. It's normal as long as I remember for custom ROM's and Cyanogenmod especialy, right?
- something that I should do before try to flash stock ROM after... 6 months of using custom ROM's?
Thanks in advance, and please excuse my noob questions...
I got an ODIN copy.. Ive uploaded it to my website
Its an old version i think but should work.. ( Odin3 v1.85 )

Samfirmware has been superceeded by Sammobile.com try there
Thank you @Nielli! I downloaded it, but 1.85 doesn't have One Package option and I can't flash my DDKQ8 one package ROM? Or I could try to put the .tar file in the PDA's field?
EDIT:// Damned, how come I didn't saw Firmware -> Flashingprograms tab in Sammobile.com?! I'm blind...
Thank you @PJ147!

Any v.annoying bugs on beta 5.. Js it good for daily use? Im so excited about it
---------
Using TapaTalk on my SGA.
Well... yes and no. I faced some really annoying bugs - still flickering, wifi gray icon, FB sync wasn't sincing my contact's pictures, when calling sometimes phone hangs-up by itself (happened once), wifi reconnects in a few seconds (fixable by patch given in thread), ICS Settings app force close (and this app even isn't included in beta 5 at all, and still existing in my installed apps although i did full-wipe several times) and many more - but as long as I see not all of the users suffered those bugs. I'm reading CM9's thread since post#1, and all I can say is that the bugs depends from your baseband... Exactly because of that I flashed DDKQ8, because I noted that users that coming from this ROM as base had less bugs in their phones and CM9 works better than with my old one baseband - KT7 (i don't even remember which stock ROM I was installed last...). And now I'll flash CM9 again to see if it's gonna work without problems for me too, or not
Thanks for your help, and if mod's decide to lock and trash this thread i'll be fine
Awhh.. Ill wait for stable build as i use my phone whole day .

slow down it takes tym to gt a reply..
anyhow i m here
1) All custom roms are rooted so u will not loose ur root access..
2)All rom developers have listed the samsung apps deleted by them, and they usually give it as an addon pack if some people want.
See it what apps they have removed , if the app u want is deleted good for u or u have to deleted it manually as u have done in the past..
Alternatively u can delete it from the rom before flashing too... if u are experienced.
3)This is a kernel related issue try changing/flashing a new kernel the problem should get solved..
i want to flash the litening rom, what is the newest version available?
my kernel is KF4 but most of the roms i found are for other kernel versions, how do i solve this?
The latest version of litening ROM is here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1095274
but can i suggest Cognition as i have used both and i do prefer cognition:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1124396
Your kernel doesnt matter - each ROM usually includes their own kernel and when you flash the new rom the kernel from that ROM will also be applied to your phone at the same time
Is cyanogenmod for gs2 released?
And whar is the difference btwn different ketnrls? say ke7 is better or kf4 is better?

Yes but no fully functional. The team has done a great job though and hats off to them.
Hi everyone! I've had for an year an amazing Nexus S (aw.. so google..) and now I'm a very happy owner of a GSII (so freakin' fast!). I thouhgt to keep the telephone with the original rom waiting for ICS but... when I saw the so HEAVY personalization by samsung! Sigh... it's so Gingerbread! it even seems ICS!
Now the question.. I've seen so many acronyms near the roms. What they stand for? I mean like XXLPQ, LPQ, LPE, XXLPH or stuff like that.
And what if I would put on a rom that is PURE GOOGLE? I saw the WanamLite, is it stable/fast/daily-use? Do you suggest this or other roms?
How to install cooked roms? With the NS you have to unlock the bootloader, install the cwm and you're done. Do you have to unlock the bl with the GSII? Can I install the cwm with rom manager and then I'm done?
THANKS A LOT!

That is the firmware version and/or region. Latest is ICS XXLPQ.
I suggest you Checkrom v6 (soon ICS!) is the most stable popular and stable rom around.
Thanks, but how? xD
As I said I don't have idea. Any bootloader to unlock? Just download rom manager and install the cwm?
Start with the faqs guides and other stuff all sticked at the top of the page .

galaxy phones can be tricky if you came from a nexus. Basically you have to read the FAQs, but in terms of flashing stuff the biggest difference is that the recovery and kernel are linked. You can't flash a separate recovery, and that's why you can't use clockworkmod.
There is no bootloader unlock thingy also. But you'll need Odin instead.
Keeps these points on mind and then read the FAQs again. And good luck!

Check out galaxys2root.com. It has detailed video tutorials on everything you need.
I bought my GS2 only 5 days ago and already went through installing Resurection remix 9.4, 9.6 and 9.7 and loving it
I've just installed the Omega V5.0 ICS ROM and its awesome, and is based off the XXLPQ firmware
Method,
I started from a 2.3.5 firmware, rooted it using a cf-root-sgs2_xx_oxa_ki3-v4.1-cwm4.zip and odin.
I copied the Omega zip rom to my sd card, rebooted into clock work recovery (the chainfire kernel installed clockwork automatically)
Followed the instructions for doing the thee wipes on the Omega home page.
and did the install from the sd card.
Hope that helps some...
Obivously every custom rom has its own instructions.
Hi I want to install latest CM9 nightly, As Im installing first time, I just want to make sure that my phone is running firmware lower than XXLPH though it looks lower but cant judge, I went through official CM9 Thread I can follow all the steps except this one. And also I have already rooted my device using
GT-I9100_THR_I9100JPKJ2_I9100OJPKJ1_I9100XXKI4 (firmware) and
CF-Root-SGS2_XW_XEF_KJ2-v4.4-CWM4.tar (root kernel)
I still havent installed any custom rom yet.
Here is my current phone details:
GT-19100
Android 2.3.5 (STOCK)
Baseband 19100XXKI4
Kernel 2.6.35.7-I9100XWKJ2-CL676699root
____________________________________________
I thought my firmware is higher than XXLPH so I found this guide to ugrade to ice cream firmware first:
http://androidbeast.com/937/tutoria...oid-ice-cream-firmware-on-galaxy-s2-gt-i9100/
then root it with this kernel :
http://androidbeast.com/948/root-samsung-galaxy-s2-cf-root-kernel-odin/
Now I need your advice that weather should I continue following above guide or should I start flashing CM9 firmware staright away ??
now that you are rooted and on ics, you can then follow the instructions in CM9 thread.
Flash odin version first and then update to latest build from cwm recovery
codeworkx said:
If you're a bloody noob and getting confused by following simple instructions, go down and read about using the noob-proof ODIN method.
First time installing CyanogenMod 9 to your Galaxy S II, or coming from another ROM:
- READ FAQs: http://teamhacksung.org/wiki/index.php/Experimental:GT-I9100:Frequently_Asked_Questions
- Make sure you're running ICS bootloaders lower than LPH: Download (flash as PDA with odin or extract and $ sudo heimdall flash --primary-boot boot.bin --secondary-boot Sbl.bin)
- make sure you're running a proper working CWM like the one from CM7
- Copy GApps and CM9 ZIPs to your internal SDCard
- Boot into Recovery
- Flash CM9 zip
- Flash GApps zip
- DO A DATA WIPE / FACTORY RESET (otherwise your calendar sync will not work)
- Reboot
- Don't restore Apps using Titanium Backup!
Upgrading from earlier version of CyanogenMod 9:
- Copy CM9 ZIP to your internal SDCard
- Boot into Recovery
- Flash CM9 zip
- Wipe cache partition and dalvik-cache
- Reboot
Using the noob-proof ODIN method:
- Download CM9 Resurrection Edition
- Download GApps and put it onto your internal sdcard
- Open Odin
- Choose cm-9-XXXXXXXX-ODIN-galaxys2.tar.md5 as PDA
- Boot your phone into download mode
- Connect your device via usb to your computer
- Wait till Odin has fully recognized your phone
- Hit the start button and wait till the flash process is finished
- Device boots automatically into recovery
- Flash GApps, wipe cache and dalvik-cache
- Reboot into CM9
- Follow above steps to update CM9 to lastest available version (Upgrading from earlier version of CyanogenMod 9)

Yes, follow the "noob proof" method. (which doesn't seem too noob proof at the moment... :/)
And seriously, why did you start two threads (this current one, and this other one) about flashing an ICS ROM? CM9 is considered an ICS ROM, so really the topic is the same.
Hi.... i recommend this site galaxys2root.com

Actually on that post I wasn't sure which ROM was based on what firmware but i came to know from users like you and I got clear idea from you all before that in the mean time, i was gathering info through various guides, videos from weeks and merged those ideas in to one then I decided to install CM9 as it looks similar to new galaxy nexus phone and this is exactly what I wanted my phone to look and behave like. Now I am happy and satisfied.
I have done oden with bootloader but in the middle of that the bootloader progress in oden is turn to red and cell get off. now its hard bricked, dead, what i can do

Man... why did you the touch the bootloader first? never play with it unless you know whats gonna happen! and about noob installation guide for CM9 is not clearly noobproof, I completely did all installation with clockworkmod recovery, I used ODIN only once for rooting my phone after that i never used it as I was very very cautious and careful about each and everything bit i was doing.
But never loose hope, you never know what kind of brick you have you have two ways to unbrick your phone,
1.Using USB jig, search it on XDA, Google, Youtube
2.JTAG Service, This is the ultimate solution if your phone is completely Hard bricked but for this you have to send your device to them.
here is their demonstration:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kQdTi2vgMmY
its written in the cm9 installation to do the boot-loader with ODIN, that is what i do
oh bhai....... make sure you had i9100 not the i9100G,
remove battery and see if you can get download mode.
im running cm9 on new bootloader unless intratech still removes them from his stock ROm as he used too..... i came from stock LPS to cm9
that much sense i have dear its s2, and ya its dead, i send the cell to lahore, khi, rwp, but no one have jtag proper equipment

you dont get it i9100G is also S2 and virtually same. you have to see under the batter if its written i9100 or i9100G.
because thats what would happened if you flash i9100 bootloader onto i9100G.
plus faulty usb, dead battery can do the trick aswell.
Hi
I have a galaxy s2 i have rooted it using method 1 with supersu and busy box http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1746794
That work i then went to install CyanogenMod 10 but it says to check for mmc brick bug and my phone has it. I am noob and cant get a new kernel to install they have an error saying e:\ sig not signed or something like that.
I have odin3 on my pc but am unsure how to use it i also found a signed kenels on this page but unsure which one to get http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1877270
my phone specs are
model gt-i9100
android version 4.0.4
baseband version i9100xxlq6
kernel version 3.0.15-i9100xwlpt-cl941023
build nuber
imm76d.xwlpt
If anyone can tell me which kernel i should use so it will be safe to flash CyanogenMod 10
or a step by spet way to use odin and install the kernel in this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1555259
or anyother safe kernel i can use to then flash CyanogenMod 10
Thanks heaps

You are right, go for SiyahKernel (latest) (safe -> no mmc) Flash it with Odin.
That will give you a safe kernel with Root then you can follow instruction in CM website (CM10 zip + gapps) to get a working CM10.
Search XDA for more help. There are lots of articles on this!

Do i have to update my version in oder to put a Rom that based on a newer Version?
I got Ics Passion v13 with 3.1.10-ICS Passion Kernel.
I tried to update from Kies but it doesn't recognize my Phone (There is no option in the ICS ROM to put the USB connection in Kies mode )
I really need help - how to update the version and what Kind of Rom and Kernel are the bests in your opinion ?

You can try the new AOKP build. Vibrantmtd is once supported again instructions for installing the rom are listed in the thread...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2208126.
As far as GPS is concerned it is either a hit or miss...might work or it might not. Unfortunately I am not able to test it since my vibrant is bricked
But I can tell you that AOKP is an excellent rom I been using it for nearly a year now since I bought my Galaxy Nexus. It is far much better than ICS passion in every aspect. Never had any problems with it.
As for the kernel I can't really say which one I would recommend since I honestly can't ever recall flashing a kernel for my vibrant...I've always used the kernels that are included in the ROM(S).
Just remember to backup your apps...because you will lose them in the process since this is not an update...it is more of an upgrade(4.0.3 to 4.2.2).
Good luck and feel free to ask any more questions.

The ROM will update you straight to 4.2.2. I don't think you need to be on 4.1 to update or any other version for that matter. Just flash the ROM through recovery and you should be good to go. Good luck.
