Hi I have a weird problem...I messed up my rom I was on JJ's hybrid rom and then I decided to reflash it...I deleted all the folders except my install folder where my programs are and my music folder...then I removed the usb and when I reopened it my 2 folders that I didn't delete where not shown and windows reported that my sdcard was completely empty though it wasn't android was already created the default folders on it and I transferred the rom zip to flash on it...ok I was thinking maybe the problem resolves when I reflash the rom and maybe andy would show it after the reflash even the android doesn't show my music and install folder. Any ideas ?
Which folders from where you deleted? Can you be clearer as to what you want?
I deleted all of the folders from the sd card...except my music, wallpaper and programs install folder and they dissappeared after deleting these other folders .android_secure,Android etc. but luckily I have a backup on my laptop so I'm transferring them back now

After rooting, then flashing a custom ROM, some of my folder on the internal memory cannot be accessed via USB. When I click on the folder, I get a message stating "Please insert a disc into M:" then "M:\Titanium Backup is not accessible. The parameter is incorrect." I can view other folders ok, but about 10 of them give the same message as above, including a Video folder that contains tv shows and a Music folder I put on the internal memory.
Did permissions get screwed up on these folders? How can I fix this?
I have the same problem on my mac but its kinda different....my internal sd works but the external sd cannot be read and causes my mac so not work properly. Any fix...
I am using macnut 14

Bump. Anyone have any ideas why this is happening? I did a nandroid backup but I cant access it via USB & Windows. I can see the files with Astro though.
2 things.
1. You will get more help if you post it in the right forum. People generally ignore posts in the wrong forum. This is development not Q&A.
2. You said it only happened after flashed a custom ROM. How about ask in the thread of that ROM. Search the thread first.

The thread for that ROM has been locked for some reason, Axura. You are right, I meant to post this in the Q&A forum.
Thread moved to Q&A.
It happen to me. I think in my case was because of corruption of the system folder caused by the original Universal Lagfix. Anyway, I fix it by flashing through Odin the original Vibrant Firmware (I think is the JD6). I flashed some other firmwares but the problem remain until I flash the original one. I did choose Repartition every time but was only with the original firmware that the problem when away. I didn't loose any data, but make sure you backup as much as you can before this just in case.
Then after that I rooted again, install Rom Manager and CW recovery and flash back to froyo through recovery and everything is great ever since.
Hope this help and if it does make sure you post it for everyone's benefit.
Happy Holidays!!!
Well, I just tried to add the stock ROM to my internal memory so I can reflash it via Recovery, I cannot copy anything to that drive.
Is there some type of fix I can do via the phone?
Yea try flashing the mountingfix.zip Just use Rom Manager.fixed my same issues! Good luck!

Hope i'm not "noobing" here but..
I use SGSII with Litening Rom 6.1
I found a Contacts.apk which fits all SGSII roms that adds Hebrew letters to the letters bar for fast searching a contact
Used Root explorer to replace the old Contacts.apk (did backup the old one to another folder of course) and perfomed a reboot
When the device started, I had no "Phone" and "Contacts" shortcuts at the bottom and everything related to Contacts app did FC
I guessed it was a faulty apk so I restored the old one and rebooted but got the same result: no "Phone" and "Contacts"
of course that before all that I did a full backup with the recovery console so everything's back to normal.. did the same procedure again and got the same result...
am I missing here something? Should I do anything else other then simply replace the apk and reboot? (most of the threads are not stating other steps )
Please help
Thank you
No, you did not miss anything the usual step is to install the apk and reboot.
It might be the apk was not designed for the S2 because it corrupted your phone. Some apks on the market are not designed for all android phones but specific to a model because it contains code that is not on other phones.

I assume that i haven't did nothing wrong but why would restoring the original one did not fix it? that's my actual question
As the download apk that may have been designed for different may have changed some values that were not only associated with the contacts and phone.
because not all the modifications the apk installed on your phone where erased when you tried to restore the old apk.
The only way pnly way to guarantee every thing is deteled is to to do a factory reset or in your case flash your back up which will wipe your phone and reset to stock for that firmware.
This could be a good hint, although i DID notice "fits all S2 custom roms" and i use LR 6.1
So i would like to to a little experiment:
1. Backup Contacts.apk
2. Delete Contacts.apk
3. Reboot (Device will load without Contacts and Phone i guess)
4. Pasting Contacts.apk from backup again
5. Reboot
To your opinion, this will restore the Contacts and Phone right?
If it will, it will proof that the procedure i did was OK and the cooked Contacts.apk was invalid..
am I right?
yes, it should work as long as you make no other changes.
As custom roms as always evolving due to upgrades and changes.
Cooked versions of apks unless they are also upgraded also may have invalid links that are no longer recognized and that why it failed.
i will test it and post a result soon

It appears that you and me both were wrong..
just tried the test.. no good, after removing the file, contacts is missing, even after putting it back
still waiting for someone to answer the 1st post and save me :\
EDIT: Iv'e noticed you mentioned: INSTALLING, what do you mean by that? actually running the apk? (have tried, it asks to replace, i say yes but in the end i get "application not installed"
apparently the contact apk is not initializing properly.
I have one other suggestion.
from the recovery back up pull out the contact.apk that you know is working and try your experiment again and see if that solves the problem. do not use the back up you just made.
There maybe an issue with the backed up contacts in that the file maybe damaged.
have you set the correct permissions for the contact.apk?

Well, I haven't touched the permissions
Lets try to solve it one step at a time
When everything is working properly and the original apk is I'm system/app.. I cut the apk and paste it elsewhere.. Contacts is removed..
Cutting it and pasting it back wont restore it.. why?

Well it depends where you are cutting and pasting it to. Your phone works on the ext4 filesystem, where files have built-in permissions setting, they'll keep these permissions as long as they stay on a linux filesystem.. however if you copy contacts.apk to the sdcard or to external_sd (which is fat/fat32), then these permissions are lost.. therefore you'll have issues when moving to sdcard and back
if you wanna test this then try renaming the original apk to contacts.bak (it'll get uninstalled and disappear from app drawer) without moving it out of system/app, then try renaming it back to contacts.apk, reboot phone and it'll be back and working

Actually i did cut it to and paste it from the sdcard!
will try it and post the result here soon

no problem, app permissions should be rw-r--r--
just have a look at the permissions for any other app in system/app if you're unclear on how to set them
appears that this wasn't the problem either
This try i just renamed contacts.apk to contacts.bak, the permissions remained the same
contacts was removed, renamed back, nothing happend
no one?
maybe you need to wipe Dalvik Cache or even a full wipe to factory
Just to give an outside perspective, have you tried searching the app drawer for the phone and contact apps? The bar at the bottom on the homescreen is just a shortcut bar. If the phone and contact apps are in the app drawer, you need to add their shortcut back to the bar.
It's definitely not just the shortcuts... trying to access contacts through other apps like WhatsApp causing a FC or something..
I'm trying to find a solution that doesn't involve switching rom or wiping anything
What else can I do?
fixed
Found a solution!
Changed the kernel (speedmod t42) and wiped dalvik and cache (kernel is probably not related, but still, that's what I did)
hey there
i installed CheckRom V6 on my S2.
I use Titanium Backup to backup and restore all my stuff.
I also use the "minidiary" app from samsung. TitaniumBackup just backed up the Database - for any reason I dont know.
So i tried to manually install minidiary.apk. That does not work, after the installation android just says "application was not installed".
So i tried it manually; I mounted the /system/app folder, to make it readable (using total commander) and pasted the minidiary.apk there. Then a reboot. ( i thought android might have to scan and add the shortcut to my appdrawer after a reboot)
nothing. Anyone has an idea, how i can get back the mini diary app?
thanks in advance

My idea is that u posted in the wrong section
hm. think so? Thought its maybe a checkrom-related problem. If not, would be great if a mod can move the fred.

Well even if it is why are you creating a topic instead or replying to the actual roms thread? If you look at topics in this section for a few seconds, does it look like your topic in any reality belongs here?
This section is for developments not for random help posts, questions, requests, etc, if you want to create a topic do it in correct section.
Hello everyone. I am very new to rooting/flashing so bear with me.
I've been searching this site for answers all day and can't seem to find one.
I accidentally deleted the folder storage/emulated/0 on my rooted Verizon Galaxy S4.
What exactly was in the folder? Was it just media such as photos and music etc. or was there data that was necessary for the phone to operate correctly?
So far, the only thing I have noticed that has been deleted are pictures and music. My settings are still the same and my apps all work.
I just want to make sure I didn't delete anything that was needed.
If I did delete things that are needed, would I have to flash the original rom, and then re-root?
Or, could I just flash a new rom and forget about my deleted files?
That folder leads to the internal SD card of the device. No system files were harmed in the process.

Hi, I'm in desperate need of help, please.
I'm using SGS2. Several months ago my device suddenly started acting weird, thumbnails in gallery didn't load, apps didn't refresh (instagram, facebook etc.)... Rebooting would help but only for a certain amount of time, until it suddenly started to happen again. I realised the internal SD card simply becomes read-only randomly, but I didn't know why. I made peace with it since I'm not a big smartphone user.
Anyhow, today I went through my phone files and saw that several cache folders were oddly big, so I deleted a ****load of files, and then(!!) that one folder would not delete... So I clicked it and saw a bunch of gibberish files that do not want to get deleted.
I tried SD Maid app, but the thing is, once I browse to that specific corrupt folder the SD card goes crazy and becomes read-only, so basically at that moment I realised that folder is what's making the phone act like this.
Connecting it to PC and deleting doesn't work either. Renaming the files doesn't work. Copy/paste does work but is useless. Factory reset/installing new ROM/kernel/whatever doesn't work either. The files will still be there, I've tried.
Anything, please?

What rom were you using when the errors started happening?
What have you tried as far as flashing roms/kernels/custom recoveries?
I'm using Omega v24 XWLSW (4.1.2). What I did was factory reset and every single format option in that CWM recovery screen. I then flashed that same ROM again but fresh.
I don't think this has anything to do with ROM/kernels etc. This is simply a bunch of corrupt files in Device\sdcard\Android. I've tried googling with no success. I need a way to forcibly delete that folder with all those files inside. Any directions on how format?

The first thing I would try is to reinstall a stock samsung rom. This sometimes is the only way to fully reset your phone back to original condition. Sammobile.com is the website I have used. You would have to root again but....
Also check out this thread -

There are some similarities with possible corrupt partitions another guy has(the last few pages of thread), that they are trouble-shooting. You might find some answers there.

Hey mate.
If you haven't fixed the problem i recommend performing a checkdisk.
To perform a checkdisk you need to:
1. Connect your phone through USB via mass storage mode.
2. The computer should prompt you to perform a checkdisk automatically, in that case just accept and let the computer perform it. If it doesn't prompt automatically you need to do it manully by right-clicking the correct partition on the computer, click properties and then on the 'Tools' bar. Now mine is in Swedish, i don't know how it is in english but press the button on the first alternative. (i.e the button with 'Control' and the administrator logo).
After pressing, just let it be (it will take quite a while) and when finished.. tell me if it worked or not.
Good luck!
Hey, I tried chkdsk and defrag just in case, the files are still there, although some of them are now gone. My phone doesn't go crazy anymore though, which is nice. Maybe I'll just let the corrupt files be there in peace, they won the war XD And as long as my phone works properly I don't really care about them.
Thanks everyone!
