[Q] Phone, Triangle, PC Logo - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi!
I've got an SGS2 (i9100) and i tried to update firmware using Kies 2.0 which i installed and downloaded for the first time today.
During the upgrade something happened and all i get on the phone now is the logo i've described.
Kies is trying to do "emergency recovery" and is just sitting at 0% so i'm not sure what that's doing.
I've tried ODIN which seems to pick up the phone on COM4 so i downloaded the I9100XXKI3 file from this thread...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1449771
and clicked on start and it gets to zImage and just sits there, i'm not sure if it's doing anything but i left it for 30 minutes and nothing happened.
I've also tried OneClickUnbrick from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1153310
and that can't find the phone.
I can get into ODIN mode on the phone (I think that's recovery) by doing volume down, bottom button and power on.
Anyone got any ideas above what i'm trying?
I think i should be able to get hold of a jig/jtag cable beyond that no idea!
Fixed!
Downloaded the latest ODIN
Downloaded the GT-I9100_XEU_I9100XWKI4_I9100XEUKH2_I9100XXKI1.tar.md5
Plugged into my work PC which didn't have Kies and it also had a different USB cable (that might have mattered)
Swapped the battery for a fully charged one (the original was on 14%!!)
Phone was off and then plugged into the PC
Let the drivers install
Ran ODIN
ODIN picked up the phone (yellow box)
Only selected PDA and located the above tar.md5
clicked on start
*stuff happened*
got a progress bar on the phone
rebooted
it went into a recovery mode and cleared cache and some other stuff automatically.
rebooted
took about 5mins to boot up
bingo!
Hope this helps anyone else with the same problem.

Try different USB ports (must use a powered/mainboard port), different USB cables (particularly the cable that came with the phone), different versions of Odin (search for them), redownload the package you were trying to flash and test the package with 7Zip, IZarc, WinRar or similar to ensure there are no damaged files in it.
If those don't work, try another PC.
If you can get into download mode & Odin recognises the phone (yellow in COM panel), you can almost always save it.

Thanks MistahBungle.
Shall i forget using Kies then?
As this phone doesn't need to be rooted and do you think the data on the phone is gone now or if i manage to reflash something it was just upgrade what's there?
thing is i can't remember what version it was trying to upgrade to. i know it was on 2.3.5 which i think is XXKI3.
I seem to remember the battery was pretty low as well, can that cause a problem?

If u had ur phones drivers properly installed on ur pc, u can dl a program called Heimdall one click unbrick. Look up how 2 use it on YouTube. Works great with any Android device that gets the "phone-triangle-pc" screen.
Sent from my Rooted samsung-SGH-I727 using XDA

Yeah Kies is rubbish. Bin it. Also, when you're using Odin, check Windoze task manager & make doubly absolutely 100000% sure that Kies & any of it's processes are not running. If they are, kill them. You need the drivers that come with Kies to use Odin, but Kies & Odin running at the same time does not work.
Unless the stock rom you flash specifically wipes, you might retain your data (I hope you made regular backups).
Yeah low battery could easily cause a flash to barf.

Thank you again!
Is there version of the stock firmware you know that won't wipe.
From what i can tell if i tick repartition and provide a pit file then this will dump everything so maybe if i can not apply those then in theory that won't wipe anything? i'm not sure if that's accurate logic.
I've downloaded this:
GT-I9100_XEU_I9100XWKI4_I9100XEUKH2_I9100XXKI1
and i'm downloading
I9100XXKI3.rar
I'm slightly worried about grabbing the right PIT file as i've seen people flash the one for a G version or plain 9100 on the wrong version and it's bricked the phone.
I know the one i'm trying to repair is just I9100 (that's what it says behind the battery and in ODIN mode).
I'm more of a Galaxy Nexus abuser so the the SGS2 stuff is new territory.

it also doesn't help that majority of stuff i've been finding used to be on some file sharing sites and they've either had the site shut down and panic'd and now only allowing downloads unless you own the account!

Do not tick repartition or touch anything to do with PIT !
Clear ? Good.
If you use firmware download from links on XDA there will be only one file which you flash in PDA section of Odin, no need to touch PIT. Ever.

crystal clear!

Good man Always remember, anything to do with PIT is an absolute last resort to only be messed with in very specific circumstances (I.E. you know for certain the problem you're having is a partition issue).

I presume the first one you got from Samfirmware or elsewhere ? Use the one you got from here (the second one). 1 file, PDA section of Odin (at the risk of repeating myself).

i know i'm sorry I just need to make sure i understand the process!

Just to update you.
Flashed the second file using ODIN for the PDA.
Swapped a fully charged Samsung battery with someone in the office plugged into my work pc which already had Samsung drivers (for my GN).
and now all working!!
Didn't loose any data!
Thank you so much MistahBungle!!

No worries guv. Glad you got it sorted & also glad you didn't lose any data as well

You've saved me from divorce!
Now i just need to look at doing ICS... after i've fully charged the phone!

Hahaha Hmmmm. Is that a good or bad thing tho ?
So far as ICS is concerned, I've tried Miui V4 which is ****e & needs a lot of work. I tried CM9 about two weeks ago & it was fantastic considering how little they've had to work with, and I'm just about to try the 20 March build of CM9 now. Looking at the discussion thread, they've made a fair bit of progress since I tried it previously.
Obviously there are other ICS variants out there & quite a few stock ICS roms floating around. As always, do your homework/research first, make sure you fully understand whatever it is you're wanting to do to your phone, always check downloads (large ones anyways) to ensure they're not corrupt & you should be fine

Well i'll be going to a Stock ICS but as far as doing it with Kies that going in the digital bin (to put it politely)!
As the phone is an unbranded one (not fixed to a network) from what i've read there isn't a UK unbranded one yet, i was toying with the idea of doing I9100XXLPQ but i might let the dust settle depending on what i read throughout the day

[Q] Help rooting and flashing GS2

Hey all,
i've read through many treads on how to do this but im getting confused as different threads say different things and there is info i think i am missing so i was wondering if you could help me as im noobing out and im confused as hell now. so basicly i have a stock standard Galaxy S2 with the Australian Vodafone ROM/OS/ whatever its called. Model is GT-I9100T running 2.3.5. so with all the info i have been reading the things that have confused me the most are
What version of kernel to use as there seem to be like 50 billion (may be exaggerating)
What is the "modem" that gets mentioned every so often and if i need it what one do i get?
How to use the Clockwork mod and how do i install it because i think the new ROM i want to install is the Cyanogen mod and it made me install a different root and the wiki for it was unclear when it came to the end of installing it
and then how do i install the Cyanogen Mod once i have done the rom.
i know there is a fair bit of info out there but all the threads i read are either incomplete or im just well....... yeah. Help would be amazing for this as the Vodafone OS is starting to annoy the hell out of me!
Thanks heaps!
To root your phone, go to this thread & find the kernel that matches with the baseband details in settings/about phone. Flash this kernel in the PDA section of Odin (DL link also found in this thread).
This will also install CW Recovery on your phone.
No need to go changing modems unless you have problems with coverage/data and you're sure this isn't a Vodafone coverage/capacity issue in your area.
To install Cyanogen, refer to the thread devoted to it in the development section of the board. Follow any installation instructions to the letter (there's a hint right there).
Bottom line, if you're confused/scared/not confident about rooting your phone or flashing a custom rom/kernel, don't until you are confident about it. Whilst these processes are relatively simple if you follow the instructions, if you skip things and don't do your homework first (there are no shortcuts, read, read some more, and keep reading until your eyes bleed), you run the risk of soft bricking your shiny new toy at best (and having to live without it until you fix it), or hard bricking it at worst, resulting in you having to pay Samsung to fix it.
Every rom or kernel I've come across on here has had absolutely simple installation instructions normally in the first post of the thread.

grr so using odin the way that the guide you linked said and downloading the kernal the way you and the guide said and following it I.E. booting odin and the connecting phone to the comp in download mode i get the line from odin "<OSM> All threads completed. (succeed 0 / failed 0)" and it wont show anything when i connect the phone yet when the phone is connected in normal mode it will show me some info in the ID:COm area, am i doing anything wrong? i tryed to post into the guide but i wont let me >.>
1) In settings/about phone what details do you have ?
2) Which kernel did you download from the CF Root thread ?
We'll go from there when you post this info.

ok sooo, baseband version is I9100TDUKJ1 thus following what i read i downloaded "CF-Root-SGS2_XW_LUX_KJ1-v5.0-CWM5" from the site
OK. Two ticks for that info.
So. You need to unzip the tar file from the zip you initially downloaded. Do not further unpack this. It must be the tar file you flash in Odin.
Fire up Odin. connect a USB cable to your phone, then plug it into a USB port. You must have 0:[port number] in the first panel in Odin directly under ID:COM on the left hand side in yellow. Keep trying different USB ports until you get this. This indicates Odin recognises your phone.
If it doesn't, you need to download Kies so you have drivers installed. If you do need to do this, make sure you kill Kies in task manager as Odin won't work with Kies running. We're only after the drivers.
On the other hand, if Odin recognises your phone as per the 2nd paragraph, click on PDA & navigate to where you have the unpacked CFRoot tar file & select it. From here, click on start & let Odin do it's thing. If it's successful it will show pass highlighted in green in that panel under ID:COM on the left hand side & the phone will reboot. Pull the USB cable & your phone should now be rooted.
To get rid of the yellow warning triangle when it boots, get a jig from eBay (search for Samsung Galaxy S2 jig or similar), they only cost a few bucks & can be handy if you ever need to return the phone for warranty service. There is another method in the CFRoot kernel thread to get rid of the triangle, but I prefer the jig.

ok so when i do this when its booted in normal mode it will appear in odin and be in the left box when i get it into download mode (start it holding vol down home) it wont show up in odin, does that mean im doing it wrong OR i am meant to do this in normal mode?
If you'd read the CFRoot thread you'd know the answer to this question.
6th instruction/bullet point - "Put your phone in download mode" :-/

yeah thats why im confused because when i do it in download mode it wont pick up the phone, does that mean im missing kies drivers? coz i can only get the phone to show up in odin when its in norm mode
ok so removed then reinstalled the drivers and was able to pick it and the install worked =D woot
So you got pass in Odin and you get the yellow warning triangle when the phone boots ? To check you have root (you should have), get Root Check Basic from the Market if you want to be absolutely sure.
Also if you boot into recovery mode (volume up/home/power buttons held simultaneously when the phone is switched off), you should get CW Recovery.
If you install Ti backup or any other app that requires root, if these work then you can be sure the phone is rooted OK.

ok so did that and then was able to install the new ROM, it froze for a bit and i thought that i bricked it but it works and its soooo much faster! thanks for the help only thing now is to fix the yellow triangle on startup! THANKS SO MUCH!
No worries Get a jig to get rid of the triangle/reset the flash counter & you'll be set. If you find the jig doesn't work, you're using firmware with the new "locked" bootloader. If this happens, flash the old bootloader from this thread (there's a paragraph in bold red text about halfway down & a link to download it) in the PDA section of Odin & the jig should work.
So far as installing other roms/kernels go, as long as you follow the instructions to the letter (some require flashing the rom twice in a row without wiping like CM for example), you shouldn't have too many problems/shouldn't brick it.
First thing you should do now that you've rooted it/installed another rom is to make a Nandroid backup in CW Recovery, then you can get something like Titanium Pro & backup your apps & so on. Good practice is to make a Nandroid backup before your flash a new rom/kernel, that way if anything goes wrong, you can restore your previous setup in a matter of minutes with no harm done.
Also, get Hellcat's kTool from the Market & backup your EFS details ASAP. Keep a copy of on your external SD card (if you have one) and also keep a copy on your PC/external drive/or a CD/DVD/USB drive. These basically contain the IMEI of your phone & allow it to work with the network. Occasionally people find the EFS details get fried for various reasons and this can mean your phone no longer works with your network provider. Obviously if you have a backup and this happens, you can restore it.

My stock i777 is rebooting at SGSII logo sreen

I've read several threads about similar events, but none to match my problem.
I have this i777 from att, never rooted or flashed, just stock.
It started rebooting at logo screen (Samsung Galaxy SII logo).
I can get to "Download/Recovery mode" by using UP&DOWN+POWER.
Clearing Cache didn't fix it.
Now I'm afraid of doing the "Clear Data/Factory Reset" because I really need my data (and that's kind of the main purpose of this thread)
Can anyone help me a little?
I don't know much about, flashing, kernel and stuff but i can try if it's needed.
Thanks.
Make sure you are using the original battery. Some replacement batteries have what is called a "boot loop"

If your stock man, and havent done anything to the phone. Call at&t.
Or root it, and that'll most likely fix the mess that you got from samsung.
There is nothing to do if you dont want to do a reset.

If your phone wont boot, the files that are in the phone, are gone. can pull your sdcard out. but everything else is gone.
If I had issues, stock, before messing with anything. I'd send the phone back, or atleast talk to them, as we here, cant do anything for a stock system except advise a few things
But if that aint an option, start reading the stickies and guides in the Dev section.
Odds are you just need to clean it up with a wipe, never wiped a stock system before, not sure exactly what all it wipes. Hell, I've only ran a stock phone for maybe an hour before getting rid of the mess that providers leave you.

There could be several reasons for a stock phone to go into a bootloop like that. It could be a firmware problem or a hardware problem. There are two possible paths you could take. Normally, a wipe data/factory reset would be the recommended first step in troubleshooting the problem, so I'll start there. You would go into 3e recovery using the three button method and then select the "wipe data/factory reset" option.
When you do this, you will lose some things, and you will keep some things. Wipe data/factory reset does not touch USB storage, so you will keep all your files, photographs, data from applications that store their data on usb storage (some do, some don't). You will lose all installed applications and personal settings. You can back up a few things, most notably your contacts, and data from any application that has a backup facility in its settings. However, without root, you will lose quite a bit of stuff, like all text messages, etc. Since you are not rooted, you will not be able to back up your applications and data.
A second alternative would be to try to reinstall the stock firmware. Depending on which version of the stock firmware you have, you may be able to do this without losing any personal data, (in other words, without having to do a wipe data/factory reset.) You have to flash the same version that is currently on the phone. There are two versions of the stock firmware, the original 2.3.4 version UCKH7 and the later 2.3.6 version UCKK6. You need to know which one is on your phone first, and since the phone is bootlooping, you won't be able to look. So if you don't know, then you can use the best guess based on when the phone was purchased. If you decide to try this first, then I will be happy to help you figure out which one to flash. The basic instructions you will need are in the guide about returning the phone to the store or for warranty replacement which is linked in my signature.
Thank you so much, I'll go ahead and do the wipe/reset.. I only need photos.
And that guide is awesome, will stick to it for another i777 i have with the first ICS leak that is so buggy.
Thanks and I'll post if it works, get my pictures or if i need to go alternative.
Something went wrong while the wipe/reset process, now it won't get into down/recovery mode.. it appears it will but restarst again.
I'm on the alternative now, UCKK6 btw so i downloaded that package (rooted since i'm not coming to att). I'm using windows and going to check if I can interpret your guide in a way.
I don't recall seeing anyone post anything exactly like your issue. And I'm not sure what the problem is exactly. If you can get into download mode, you can try either the UCKK6 with root, or the UCKH7 with or without root. Instructions for going into download mode are in the guide. If you flash the UCKK6 with root, and the attempt to wipe data did nothing, then if it recovers, you may still have access to your personal data.
finally out of boot loop and working like a champ!
Installed Drivers (SAMSUNG_USB_Driver_for_Mobile_Phones.exe)
Used motherboard bound USB port
Up&Down+Cable = Odin Mode
Using Odin3-v1.85.zip
did (in PDA):
1.- uckk6_stock_rooted.tar
2.- SGH-I777_ClockworkMod-Recovery_5.0.2.3.tar
(using Volume Up&Down+Power after this one got rid of the "Deleting Cryption Meta Data", Then went into USB mass storage mode and recovered all my photos to secure them)
3.- Siyah-v2.6.14-att.tar
my phone now works, thinking maybe in another rom, any recomendations?

I don't know of any solution other than replacing the micro USB port on your phone. It is, however, a fairly easy repair. No soldering required. Also, fairly inexpensive. You should do some research to find out the information you need, what board to buy, specific disassembly and reassembly instructions, etc.

Got my i777 micro usb port replaced by them at the first of this month. Well worth it. And mtv.com has been around a good while and are very reputable.
Wouldn't trust my phones with anyone else. [emoji106]

Can't Get To Odin Mode GS2 i777

I don't know of any solution other than replacing the micro USB port on your phone. It is, however, a fairly easy repair. No soldering required. Also, fairly inexpensive. You should do some research to find out the information you need, what board to buy, specific disassembly and reassembly instructions, etc.

Okay. So now you can charge the battery in the phone, transfer files, and put the phone into download mode? (I think you called it the custom OS screen.) In other words, the USB port now works correctly? So now you need to use Odin to flash the stock firmware.
You didn't say what version of the operating system your phone is running. Since you posted in this old thread which has a title "My stock I777..." I assume you are on some version of stock. You should use Odin3 v1.85 (preferred) to flash the latest stock firmware distribution, which is I777UCMD8 which you can get from the download repository.
If you are unfamiliar with using Odin, here is a set of instructions.
How to use stand-alone Odin3 to flash firmware:
Follow and recheck each of the following steps. Do them in order listed, as some steps are dependent on previous steps. Instructions are for Odin3 v1.85. It should work with any version of Odin, but some details, like color of items, may be different.
1.) Open Odin on the Windows Desktop.
2.) Have the USB cable plugged into USB port on the computer, but *Not* plugged in to the phone.
3.) Shut the phone off.
4.) While holding down the vol+ & vol- keys, plug micro-usb plug into phone.
5.) In Odin, you should get the yellow box under where it says ID:COM with the text 0:[COMx], and in the Message area, <ID:0/00x> Added!! where x is some number, usually 1-8.
6.) In Odin, make sure Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time are checked and all other items are not checked.
7.) Click on the PDA button. Browse to the tar file you want to install and select it so its path appears in the text edit box next to the button.
8.) Make sure the check box next to the PDA button is checked.
9.) Click the Start button.
10.) You should see the green progress bar advancing.
11.) When complete, you will get a PASS (or FAIL if unsuccessful).
Im Confused

When you download the stock firmware distribution from the Download Repository, it will be compressed in a zip archive, 7zip actually, and you must extract the file from the archive with an archiving program such as 7zip. When you extract it, it will have the extension ... .tar.md5. This is what we refer to as the "tar file." It is actually a Linux "tape archive" which has also had an md5 sum attached to it. When you select this file in Odin, with the .tar.md5 extension, Odin will check the md5 sum to verify that the file is not corrupt, and then it will flash the contents of the .tar file to your phone.

Brick help needed

I recently rooted my phone to the latest Siyah version. I noticed the capacitive buttons not working correctly and then I noticed the version I had was for I900. I went into cwm and installed the correct kernel for my phone but it did not fix the problem. I realized after that I didnt clear the cache. So I went into clockwork recovery and tried to fix that but I hit something to cause my phone to go to a black screen and had litle flashes every once in a while. I took out the battery and the galaxy screen with the triangle pops up but then goes to black. If I hit the power button it will show the battery charging button briefly but then goes away.
After all that. My question is can my phone be saved?
Thanks,
Mike

Yes, almost certainly.
First, please confirm the model of your phone. Do you have SGH-I777?
You will need to boot into download mode, and install the stock Gingerbread firmware UCKH7 that the phone originally came with. From that point, you can update or modify the phone as you prefer.
From what you say, it sounds like you need to do a fair amount of reading of the sticky post items such as the faq and guides and elswhere in this forum to get a good foundation of information about the phone and how it works. Understanding makes it much safer to work with your phone.

Yes. I have the I777. When I originally installed the kernel I downloaded it from the I777 section and it was supposed to be a 1 click thing till I realized those little issues of the I900.
I finally got into odin mode and it says its downloading. I can also now see it on my computer. Not sure what its downloading but its better than the black screen i was getting. Been on the downloading screen for 5 minutes or so. Just gonna leave it downloading till it does something or someone tells me something better to do
Thanks for your help!
***Update I downloaded the UCKH7 on to the phone and Odin(on the computer said successful) The phone is still stuck on Downloading... Do not turn off target. I didnt have the auto reboot selected on Odin. Should I try diusconnecting the phone and rebooting with the power button or just wait until it does it? been hung on it for 10 minutes even though the computer said it was done.

Go to the guide how to install custom binaries... which is linked in my signature. Read it untill you understand the basics. It will explain how to use Odin and download mode. Once you understand, flash the UCKH7 stock plus root package that is linked in the guide. This is assuming that you want root and to customize your phone.

if u follow the guide then u prolly have a rooted stock(assuming u used the rooted stock package) which Kies is not friendly with maybe due to having a non-stock kernel, also 2.3.4 is GINGERBEAD. Now if u plan to flash ICS ROM's i suggest forget bout Kies & go back to the guide & learn how to flash a kernel w/ CWM.

[Q] Hard bricked two times need help

First let me put it out there that I have been rooting and installing roms for multiple phones with no issue ever.
I tried to install *TheCollective*AoCP - CP4.4 for i717 on my note and it hard bricked the first one I don't know why but it did. No biggie so I went through warranty and got a new one today. Heres my process (Assume I have samsung usb drivers already installed and battery is 100%)
Enable USB debugging
Used Odin3 v1.83
Used cwm-touch-i717-120414.tar.md5
Downloaded *TheCollective*AoCP - CP4.4 for i717
Downloaded gapps-jb-20120726-signed
Added both to SD card
Boot into Recovery
NANDroid backup
Wipe data/Factory reset
Wipe Dalvik cache
Format /system
Install ZIP From SD Card (RoM first then gapps)
Reboot.....wont turn on at all black screen nothing from phone
What am I doing wrong?
Someone please tell me.
Dont format /system. It's not necessary. I do everything you did. Except I Use TWRP... I dont see anything wrong with your process
See and on the first phone I didnt format the system and it bricked so I thought it was because I didnt format the system thats why I did it on my note
Edit: Being a broke college student I can't afford this mistake again. If anyone can help me (specific to this rom) that I'm doing wrong or what may be wrong with my phone that would be awesome.
I did everything right I looked through the rom thread well into 100 pages and nobody has had any issues.
I've never hard bricked any other phone before and I had my original note on another rom as well.
It was only until I used that rom did it hard brick or as far as I know it hard bricked.
Can anybody respond to give me a hint as to what happened?
Post a picture of your note. I want to "see" this device.

Fact of the matter is;
The packaged rom you refer to dose not contain bootloaders. So its really quiet unlikely its hard bricked unless you flash it to a device its not ment for.
The recovery in question is the one I use as well so that also should not cause an issue.
Have you tried a jig? To get back into download mode?
I really want to see this device you own I have a feeling you may be flashing the wrong device files.

Sorry for bad writing...its late
I know that the device is not booting at all. no vibrate, no sound just a black screen.
I've heard amazing things about the rom hence why I wanna try it. I don't mean any disrespect to any of the rom developers.
I thank you for even responding! I'm pretty sure it's on my end I just wanna find out what.

i dont know if this is the one that will work for you but its what you need, if you are hard bricked.. did you try pulling batteries and getting into download mode by holding volume down and power and plugging in usb (all without the battery in device) ?
dont know if it will work but give it a shot.

This statement made me think of something else:
1: What cable did you use?
2: Were both phones bricked while flashing from the same PC?
I ask that, because if your phone is unplugged part way through a bootloader being installed... But you don't have to unplug it, it could be a faulty USB cable or bad PC drivers :/
Ive rooted and romd a ton of devices myself never ever bricked one until I came across this one... i own a jig and no recovery no boot whatsoever my only conclusion as to why this happened to me.. is a while back people were reporting a few certain phones had a "brick bug" there's an actual app to run and check to give you some peace of mind.

Used the cable that came with both phones, the old cable for the old phone and the new cable for the new phone
both phones used the same pc.(never had any issue before) Both phones were 100% battery and unplugged while installing the roms though\
Only until after installing the roms did the phone not come back on. (meaning after installing CWM I restarted the phone and it started up fine issue only happened after I installed the rom)
Brick bugs?
So squeezed my way into a replacement.
Scared to try another rom but I think that I will try another one and see if it works. My phone will be here tuesday.
Should I use another computer to do load CWM? Throw some advice as I'm pretty sure this is the last time I can get another phone for a while
Hi... I hard bricked my at&t sgh-i717 in the same way... same rom... same format system... and the phone would not start up, not recovery mode or download mode. I built a jig, that work correctly with the samsung S2, but on the Note no effect :crying:

I bricked a phone and soft bricked a phone and brought it back to normal just recently - The problem that i have is that i actually provide a flashing service to my customers and the guy i had dealt with used samsung kies and downloaded ICS which brings many issues to the table when flashing the easy way. Rather than mess around i decided to go about things the easy way below;
--Enter ODIN mode on i717, Download & Flash the STock Gingerbread 2.3.3 AT&T Rom (which is linked in Da_g's Thread) using ODIN on ur PC i(500MB zip)
--install the DA_G OC root kernel
--then install TWRP.zip via Odin or flash CWM
--then Download and flash Jellbean ROM of your choice / GAPPs. (after you wipe cache x3 and dalvik x3
Make sure you have all the samsung galaxy note drivers installed on your computer... if you are unsure REINSTALL them. Trust me

Hi,
First I would like to say thanks for all the hard and awesome work.
I'm a noob/longime lurker, and don't have enough posts to be able to post on the thread itself, hence the PM.
I just wanted to share a suggestion if you can change your naming convention of your download files on the mirror site (or in general).
I had trouble downloading from the main link which kept timing out on me. So I used the dev-host mirror link, which has 4 links, but ended up downloading the wrong ROM. I should've gotten the i747 one (for AT&T) but instead got the i727 one, as I mistakenly thought these were just all different mirror links to the same file.
Long story short, this ended up bricking my phone, which is now getting exchanged at AT&T.
I know this is completely due to my noobness, and lesson learned,
but my suggestion is if you can change the naming convention of the files, (especially on the download mirror) or somehow make the difference in the files more obvious than just the 1 character digit difference located in the middle of the file name.
This may help other soul avoid making the same mistake I did.

If you are on stock 2.3.4 and tried to flash that kernel .. that is why it failed .. it would be the wrong kernel for that rom. Did you flash a stock rom in recovery? If so then I would suggest using oden to return to stock . then see what you end up with.

Are we talking about Software ou Hardare issue in your opinion?

Could be a hardware issue. Try this ... Put the phone into download mode then connect to the pc. Use the cable that came with the phone. Also use a port on the back of the pc ..not a hub. Then open kies and do the emergency firmware update.
Also ... When you used Odin to go to stock ..you installed the 3e recovery ..that's why it failed to flash. Which is a good thing. That kennel would have boot looped you.

Hi there thanx for your answer..I have not tried at that site..this program will do what? COMPLETELY wipe my phone??cheers
It will, it completely erases everything. Replaces recovery and losses root. Very simple to use, I use it every other month.

Yep i used it..very good..But my original and main problem..Continues..NONE of my HOME keys are working..I fear that it is a Hardware issue with the SGH-i717..I guess i have to take it to Samsung for repair..Until someone else can give me a solution..I have tried everything and nothing has worked..No HOME keys..Cheers
Definitely not a hardware issue, there where some changes made IIRC in the kernel driver files, once flashed they prevented the homerow buttons from working normally, the only way I ever found to make them work right was to flash the Flappjaxxx alternate kernel series, let it boot, then return completely to stock!
If you dig around, FJ's alt kernel's are around here somewhere!

Good morning, well i believe i have finally arrived at a possible solution..I have searched hi and low for these Flappjaxxx alternate kernel ..I came up with a daunting array of alternatives for the complete amatuer as i am..I appreciate that your time is precious but i do need some general direction what exactly i am searching for..I have found this one but to be quite honest i am not sure if i need this whole ROM or just the Flappjaxxx alternate kernel'a..

Also when i do eventually obtain the Kernel that i am looking for can i use ODIN to flash it? I installed this ROM which i beleive to be stock already..You wrote that i need to return COMPLETELY to stock..What is that 2.3.6???

My work schedule is absolute hell, and due to people flaking at work I have been called in 2x to cover on my only days off...
Needless to say, im about to pass out, so im going to make this useless post...
Either I, or someone else can link you to a FJ rom, and the FJ alternate kernel that match, what you will need to do prior is make sure you have EVERYTHING you want/need, backed up to GMail (in the case of Phone logs, SMS and MMS with the Backup to GMail app, yes, im whoring this fantastic app out) AND to your computer, NO not your SD card, but your computer!
Make sure you have the latest recovery (TWRP 2.5.0.0 is what I have, but whatever TWRP is latest will do), wipe everything, then install the rom, boot, wait 10min, reboot into recovery, flash the alt kernel, boot, wait 10min, then test the home/back/menu/search key row, they should work, at this point, you CAN go back to the 2.x.x rom you where running, but if you have an i717, I have had nothing but love for the Stock rom update on AT&T once I performed a complete ODIN to it (flashing the ones here on the forum's resulted in random reboots here and there, and while less then ever before, still annoying, after an ODIN however, havent had a random reboot yet!).
There are issues with the GNote i717 JB release, many posted here, and quite a few here:
http://forums.att.com/t5/Android-Di...getting-Jelly-Bean-update/td-p/3421041/page/5
Including my own rant towards the bottom...
Needless to say, ill try and get on tomorrow to get the right links you will need, or some other kind sirs can...... either way, I have fallen asleep in the middle of writing this, so if something doesnt make sense... well, sleep writing was never my skill of choice
