do the tabs break? does the case fall off? this looks like the perfect protector case for the phone.
i am debating between that and the full body shield
http://www.shieldzone.com/item_description/HTCCING8125F.html
opinions?
of course i know i will still need a screen protector if i choose the plastic case... not a big deal.
**EDIT**
wait a minute, does the active case cover the touch screen??? if it does then that would be COMPLETELY disappointing... *crosses fingers*
I think the plastic covers the screen...
I don't have one, but looking at the pictures, it certainly looks like the plastic covers the screen. This opinion is further reinforced by the statement: "Conveniently view your calendar and contacts through the crystal-clear protective shell".
This makes the case a non-starter for me!
-Kal.
Well I just e-mailed them and if it leaves the screen open (which if you look really close at the short-angle pics of the front, i really want to believe that the screen is exposed) then this will be my 1st aftermarket case. I will post the email results and (pending a positive response) also my personal opinions of the case once it has shipped.
on a side note I am also buying a 3-pack of stylii, the clear touch crystal, and the USB/car charger. ill post feedback if everything works out!!
did you ever get a reply back? I'm interested - though I'm considering it even if it comes with a plastic cover for the screen - as long as it's easily removable, it's more convenient for me so I can just keep it in my front pocket with no danger for the screen. When I need the touch screen I'll take it off, otherwise with something like xbar and other today page plugins, I would minimize touchscreen neccessity.
Since you mentioned you were considering the invisible shield product, are you worried about the screen cracking? What has been your experience with phones without hard cases such as this. It seems to me many people just prefer it in the front pocket with no case due to the bulkiness.
Other Active cases for different devices have a flip screen for the display. I am curious if this one does as well. To me that would be ideal as it could then be carried in your pocket. My old Jornada 568 was like that and it was very handy.

From what I've seen from surfing around, the company's cases for other devices cover the screen, but look like they're hinged to provide easy access to the screen when needed. Their case for the Dell Axim X50 does this. I think the description that the company is using for this is pretty generic to cover most of their other products. They really should clarify the screen cover thing for this particular device.
I'll be interested in hearing more about this...
I just bought this case on Ebay. I will post pics and thoughts when I receive it. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=400229407820&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT#ht_2308wt_1396
If anyone has bought this please give your thoughts. I figure for only $14 if it sucks it won't be a big deal.
I got this one. Looks similar, but comes with a screen protector. Should get it next week.
http://mobile.buy.com/ibuy/Product.aspx?sku=223077071
I got one that is very similar and I love it! here is the link to the one I have
http://cgi.ebay.com/Leather-Case-Sc...?pt=US_Tablet_Accessories&hash=item45fb4bfd29
I also purchased my screen protectors from them. Both items are excellent quality. The case fits perfectly. super tight fit, all cuts outs are perfect. The screen protectors were easy to apply as well. It will not protect the TF from drops but I am very happy with it.
Yeah both of those look very similar to what I bought. I'm glad you both like them. That eases my mind a bit.
I previously ordered 2 of these from different ebay stores. A brown and black one. Both used the same illustration, but the black one had a smaller border around the screen (this is the one I received), which is actually handy if you use the Google Labs quick menu from the stock browser, or other apps that have functionality in the screen border
The brown one had a better fit but it blocks the speakers a bit (uses 3 holes, where the black one leaves the speakers naked), black one upper border was a little bit curved.
I got this case already. It's not really top quality, but a few points to note:
- The speakers on the TF itself are blocked (that's why there is a lot of leather on the side)
- The microsd position is slightly out, meaning you have to push the pad in a bit in order to get the microsd card out
- Since the insertion point is from the bottom part of the case up, the TF will move up and down quite a lot. In fact, if you let it stand using its built-in stand, the TF will slide down so you do not see the whole screen.
- 2 Magnetic points on the top left and top right of the case. I find it very useful
- And I tried docking with the keyboard with the case, it just doesn't work well.
I only listed the cons so far, but ignoring those, I think the $14-15 I paid for it is well worth it!
I would be shocked if these turn out to be real leather.
I just got one of these today. Definitely not real leather, but it feels nice enough. The fit is good and the "stand" works well. However, the camera and light sensor on the front of the case are completely out of line, so I just cut a rectangle around instead. I wouldn't mind normally, but having it set to auto-brightness, and the hole occasionally being covered up left the screen almost always dim.
** I will post some pictures later today - I'm at work currently **
The Nillkin Fresh case came about 2-3 days ago and I was quite excited. But that was short lived. The case is a faux-leather flip cover case with a thin plastic shell on that clips to the phone. It looks decent enough, but I have some problems with mine (possibly QC problems):
The case though didn't completely fit!! Along the right side (near the SD/SIM) it is a bit warped - not bad or noticeable unless your looking right at it and for it.
The case is held closed by a magnet, but the magnet on the flip cover is quite small which then requires it to be precisely over the other pole or it does nothing. Not a big deal, but I wish this was thought out better.
Additionally, one of the main features of the case is (link below) how the case being used as a stand. The flip cover is a tri-fold design which should act as a stand but I haven't had much luck with it. The inside of the seemingly leather flip cover is a soft touch, almost suede, material that is quite slippery. This plus the fact that the case seems to be needing to be broken in makes for the "stand" feature unusable... it falls right over currently. (I have tried multiple configurations).
Over all, I bought the case on eBay for $9.99 with no shipping cost (ships from china - companies home country) and it took about 15 days to get here (in the US). Not bad, but I am already looking for a replacement that will make my device feel premium again rather then cheap.
Would I recommend this case? Yes, but only as a temporary case until more come out - like the official Sony cases or a case from Incipio (link below).
** Complete side note: I had a Nillkin case for my old Nexus 4 which only lasted a few short months because the leather started to peel away from the flip cover! I knew this would be a temporary case when I bought it, so keep that in mind!
http://www.nillkin.com/english/proshow.asp?mid=2&sid=0&tid=0&cid=1&scid=13&id=3526&page=1
http://www.incipio.com/cases/smartphone-cases/sony-smartphones/sony-xperia-z-ultra-cases.html
I was fortunate to get to try that case out and many others (being in hk and china) - and I posted about this case. It's unfortunate you didn't read my post and what case eventually went with in the big Z ultra case thread.
This case is definitely not recommended if you want one to work well with desk stand, and want to use the trifold ipad style cover as a stand.
The snap-in style plastic mounts doesn't make it easy to pop in and out of to use the desk stand, and the plastic mounts are shiny thus looks and feels cheap.
Finally, the cover doesn't even come close to the quality and feel of the ipad cover, even the vinyl kind. The material is stiff and plasticky and most importantly doesn't fold together to function as a working stand at all. It will unfold/collapse and fall over.
In addition, there's an issue with the the magnet. With the magnet closed, there is a gap between the last third of the tri-fold cover and the phone's screen. This gap exists because the case (mold or design) is not the right fit - the wider flap makes it essentially unable to align with the opposing magnet. If you try to push the flap down to get rid of the gap, you inadvertently push/slide the magnet off and the cover comes loose. In practice, the magnet will never be engaged because you'll always push the cover down somehow (pocket, bag, stacking something on top).
The only Nillkin I recommend is the http://www.nillkin.com/english/proshow.asp?mid=2&sid=0&tid=0&cid=1&scid=13&id=3516&page=1 shield case. I ended up buying the black one for scenarios where I don't want a flip cover. The fit is good, texture is good (good grippy backside), and it doesn't look too cheap (no shiny plastic). It's decent protection for rougher than usual situations. There are sections where there's a thin piece of plastic on the edge of the phone (like over the usb flap) where it feels weak, cheap and easily breakable. Besides that only issue, I like this case as a back-up.
For a flip cover case that works well with a desk stand, actually stands up, and feels decent quality - I recommend Kaso and Krussell. I went with Kaso as a cheaper alternative for now.
So I guess it's not just me... which is kind of a bummer, but I have already found a replacement. Now if only October 22 was here (my Birthday) I could get a new case!
Thanks for the replay, some good thoughts there!

Funny how the 2 Nillkin cases the OP talks about are the exact 2 I bought online.
I bought the white Fresh, and Yellow leather.
Anyway, after having used both, now I know that flip covers, despite the protection it gives, tend to get in the way of general use. Answering calls involve one extra hassle step.
Taking pictures, you have to roll the flip cover up into the triangle as if you are going to use it as a stand and hold it in your left hand, because simply flipping it and folding it over will obstruct the camera.
Nothing wrong with the build quality...I am sure it is better than most cheapos out there. All the useful ports are left uncovered (one of the reasons why I chose Nillkin...there is actual thought process that has gone into the design). If you want to use the magnetic charging port, not many other manufacturers apart from Nillkin make them uncovered.
The yellow I chose is less vibrant in colour (than what it seemed on screen), and does not go so well with the white ZU I have, so that got retired until the day I get SBH-52 and leave my phone in the bag.
For the Nillkin Fresh, I got in white, and am very happy with it, and currently in use.
It has a nice tight fit, seems to be made of good tough plastic, and the texture on the back helps with general grip.
I did make one modification to it, because even though the magnetic charging port is left open by design, it was impossible to get a good connection while the pone was still in the case. So I cut off the thin strip that runs along the screen side of the mag port. Filed it down with nail clipper file, and now it is perfect. It has not lost structural rigidity.
The number of times that i thought that I had closed the USB port properly, but was still slightly open (thus not making it fully waterproof) has prompted me to get the magnetic charging cable. I knew it was something I wanted while I was out choosing the case, so for those who are still looking for cases, I won't say go Nillkin, but make sure you go for one that has the magnetic charging port uncovered.
Whether you buy DK-30 is a different debate. Some like it, but some find it expensive for what it is. There are not many covers out there tat allow you to dock with it on.
But the USB magnetic charging cable is something I believe every ZU owner should have. For that reason get a cover with the port uncovered.

Can we please get pictures of this modification? Keen to replicate. Otherwise attractive looking case, be a shame to waste.

I came back to post a quick update about the case I got and this caught my eye... actually the build quality is the reason as well!!
The case is broken ><. On the top left hand side (near the charging port) the case has snapped. A piece is broken clean off and only after about 2 weeks. I know the case was $10, but I also had build quality issues with a Nexus 4 case, so I am going to say the quality is rather low.
With this new information, I am going to say stay away from this case. The long import time (from HK to US), and poor quality aren't worth it. Spend the few extra bucks and get a quality case you will have for more than a few weeks.
Just my 2 cents though...

So Poetic has some new cases due to come out on October 30th according to Amazon. They look very nice and are definitely my style of case.
Here they are:
Turtle Skin: http://www.amazon.com/Nvidia-Shield...869&sr=8-6&keywords=nvidia+shield+tablet+case
Revolution: http://www.amazon.com/Nvidia-Shield...69&sr=8-15&keywords=nvidia+shield+tablet+case
Personally considering the Turtle Skin case as the ability to use your stylus as a kickstand is great. Not sure why the Revolution version has most of the speakers covered. (Unless those spots they cut out are the only areas where sound is coming out?)
What do you guys think? I'll be updating this post with the Turtle Skin case as soon as I get it.
No speaker holes.
I was looking at those the other day and couldn't figure out why the frig they covered up 90% of the speaker ports.
Kind of makes dual forward facing speakers a moot point? Someone in the final approval dept. needs to get off the crack and look at the way it actually works lol.
Poetic is great. Ive had 3 tablets prior to the shield and used poetic cases for them all. These are terrible cases compared to the ones Ive used before. I cant bare to think of how hot the k1 will get in these beasts.

Yeah I was a sucker and paid way too much for the Shield tablet cover, but after using it and playing the k1 optimized games I know why they went with the open back design with minimal contact points. It would be awesome to find a silicone bumper or something to still fit the tablet but a fully covered back on the shield is not a great idea if you actually use it for gaming IMO.
Pre-ordered a revolutions case.
As for the speakers if you play around covering up the grills you'll notice that where poetic have put their holes is actually where the sounds comes out the most.
Has anyone tried the turtle case yet? I had ordered the Revolution back in Oct but was not one of the ones to get the first shipment so I canceled it and went with a flip cover case. However for normal day to day use the flip cover case is kind of annoying and I'd like to switch to an open face case like these.
Just got one of these puppies and want to see the REVOLUTION case in action. Can anyone please post pics? Tia!
Finally got my Poetic case just before christmas. Here are some pictures and a video I made.

I'm thinking about the revolution case myself. Does the built in screen protector affect the stylus performance?

for me it did. I think it might had more to do with the fact that I already had an illumishield cover.. I didn't really care much for the built in screen protector, considering it kept giving that oily look, like in the pics above. Anyways, with both the illumishield and built-in protector, the touch sensors was wonky, especially when using the stylus. And since I liked the non oily look of the illumishield, I just basically hacked away the built-in screen protector. as far as the case though? it's pretty awesome..
Ah ok, i didn't notice that it was the soft type screen protector that does that oily crap cuz i was on mobile when i saw the photos. I also like to provide my own screen protector and just use the frame, thanks.
My poetic case is coming in today. I had the thought of doing the same thing as the other guy. Cutting off the protector of the poetic and installing my own screen protector.
With the built in protector only the stylus works fine. Don't like the weird oily looking effect though and probably will remove it also.
Now I've used it for a while there are things I really don't like about it. The buttons are really hard to press now, I might try to mod it to make it better. The port cover will probably get cut off as it doesn't stay in after being left on charge over night. The stand is a nice feature but poorly done, only one angle option and its not a good one. Would be good to have some sort of incremental angle options and to lock into place.
But the protection the bulky case provides cannot be denied.

That was the dirst thing I did when I got mine. I've never really liked the built in screen protectors, they all seem poor compared to combining the case with a nicer screen protector. Use tempered glass + Otterbox on my M8, and an illumishield + poetic on the shield. Not a huge fan of the buttons, but it's stil the best and basically only choice for a hard case.
just wondering, anyone here has cracked edges problem?
I read it like almost everywhere on the nvidia forum... and ppl there are.. kinda nasty. most of the things discussed there is not constructive...
So I had a mixed experience with the Poetic Revolution case.
tl: dr Poetic need to make a SlimLine range for the Nvidia Shield Tab so it can be oriented in Landscape and Portrait.
I had to shave off the locking lugs that stow the stand so I could easily deploy and stow the stand. I also had to cut into the flap so it would return to the covered position. The material that Poetic chose to use for the rubberized flaps is different to the SlimLine range of cases, and is less flexible.
I also had an issue with the kickstand hinge lugs breaking off and I had to request a new case.
The new case is better than the first one. The stand will deploy much easier now, and the rubberized material *eventually* returns to it's original position. It still doens't close immediately after you have unplugged headphones or the charging cable, but it gets there eventually.

What procedure did you use to get a replacement for broken kickstand? I agree with your experience, pretty much the same issues here. Still like the case but hinge and hard to press buttons.

I just used their web site contact form. If you are in the states, you won't need to pay the postage fee. I had to, because I'm in Australia.
Right on, they asked for Order number & picture of damaged region and my address. The new case has already been shipped no need to return the defective old one either. Thanks for your tip.
Ok, i am very picky when it comes to picking out cases and similar accessories, and ittook me a while to find the right case that i wanted for the tablet.
I settled on this one http://www.amazon.com/i-Blason-Samsung-Galaxy-Note-12-2/dp/B00IT3UBX6
It is great. It fits well, the silicon is soft, the handholds are great, and the kickstand is useful.
My only gripes are that the kickstand is only one angle, and it doesnt come with a screen protector, but i bought tech armor and it works great. I also would have liked to see a detachble screen cover, but it would not have made much sense with this case, i just like havign a shell over the screen when storing it in a bag or something so that nothing crackz the screen. I also would worry ab I ut the seals around the screen. Its not waterproof and not advertised as much, but it you do spille something i wor3ry about it leakingunder the case and being a oain to clean, but this can be an issue with most shells.
Overall, i would recommend this case, especially for the price.

I also considered this case too, but I really need it to have a portrait mode. I would definitely get this case if I had a screen protector as I can never install the protectors without imperfections.
