Hello and welcome to the forum....
Root is where you get access to all file system on the phone and you can use apps that needs that like setcpu there you can control the cpu
Debranding is when you buy a phone from o2 there is apps from the provider on the phone and with debranding you will get a genetic firmware on the phone from sony ericsson without all the provider software
Oh so root is just to get to the core of the phone? Or is it something like iphone jailbreak?
For debranding why would people dont want the provider software? It cant be deleted?

Rooting
Sorry to open this topic up again, but I want to root and debrand my phone.
Is there a specific order I should do it in? Or will rooting allow me to debrand?
I think Custom ROMs are already debranded, but I'm not sure. For Rooting, use a program called SuperOneClick, google it and you'll easily find it.

If your initial contract-period is expired, vodafone would usually provide you with the sim-unlock code for free, any other way you will have to pay.
Thx

Remove simlock Xperia U

Ok people, i am tired of reading posts like ask your provider to unlock your phone... my friend gave me xperia u, and i want to unlock it. it is not rooted or bootloader is not unlocked
any FREE software able to do that
No. Guess what I'm going to say? Ask your carrier to unlock your phone.
No way to unlock bootloader but you can ask carrier to remove simlock.

This is not true. There is a paid service to clear the CSCA area of Xperia phones. So, after that you get the unlock sim phone with rootable bootloader. I did it on SE Acro HD. You can get the information here

[Q] Unlocking Xperia U

Hi guys! Can I make sim-unlock on Xperia U , using unlocking code?
I have phone on contract (o2, UK). Also, I have bootloader unlock allowed: no
Is it posible to unlock sim, and use different network. And will unlocking code allow bootloader unlock?
Sorry my english
Yeah if you're on o2 and you got your phone from o2 they will unlock it free of charge, bootloader unlock will not change after you unlock it though

I don`t understand, why o2 can unlock it for free for everybody... maybe I want to steal it! If I stop paying, i can use it... They should block IMEI or something else... It's unbelievable
When you say unlock you mean to allow you to use it on other networks? If this is what you mean then o2 will unlock the phone for free if you bought it from them on a pay monthly contrAct
