Am I missing something or.... How is there no good junk mail filter apps? Email is one of the most used things on smartphones, you'd think the play store would be flooded with these apps.

Oh. Well the emails have nothing to do with your phone then. Just mark them.as spam. I get spam everyday
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using xda premium

I've got several GMail accounts that I've never used for anything except self-storage, and I get 30-40 spam e-mails in those every day. Google used to have the best spam filter I'd ever seen...now it's the worst. :/ As soon as my Alma mater switched to Google Apps for Education, my incoming spam on that account quadrupled.

Gmail still is the best at filtering spam. You are not seeing 95% of what it filters automatically.
For the ones that get through take 5 minutes to train it. Mark the ones that are spam spam and it will quickly learn to mark those automatically.
Also; watch what you are installing and downloading. Most spam is brought on by installing questionable apps or clicking questionable websites.

I am getting them too. About 1 or 2 a day. Some days I get none. They are coming from hijacked email accounts meaning gmail thinks it's actually coming from an authentic live person trying to send a real email to you and therefore is getting around the spam filter.

Yeah they do hat to allot of phones just download yahoo mail app.
There is a thread about this in the Thunderbolt General forums if you want to see what others are saying. But yeah, you're not alone. Mine stopped working sometime during the over night last night. Gmail bug/broken

I'm stock unrooted. Up until an hour ago Gmail was working fine, now i can't even open it without crashing and flickering. Anyone else having this issue? It seems to be plaguing everyone commenting in the marketplace.

Try clearing data and cache for gmail. I am stock rooted and currently do not have this problem.
i did twice. I restarted twice. That's so weird. If you read the comments on the Gmail app in the marketplace a lot of people are having this issue. The only thing i did differently was download the new angry birds. I don't understand.

I found another forum where people are experiencing the same thing on different phones. It has to be Gmail updating their system. But i find it odd how it only affects certain users. I can't possibly be the only person with this problem who uses a note.

I am having the same problem on my note.
Yay I'm not crazy. Lol. Life hacker has an Article about it. Its apparently a coding bug that was recently updated. The only work around is using the default email app.

Hi guys, I have the same problem with HTC Desire!
http://groups.google.com/a/googlepr...ries/gmail/android/gmail/Cw1AKdxpj7c/overview
Here's a helpful group, apparently google is aware of the issue and trying to fix it. They're asking for you to post your phone model, software, and time the incident occurred.
It just occured to me this morning. Really weird...
I'll sync it up with the email app from now on.
the problem is still not resolved
No issues with any Google apps (gmail, +, maps, nav, etc.) for me on my note...

i just received an email from my customer, after i sent her an email less than 10 min ago
i've been receiving emails all day at 30 min interval
i do have angry bird space installed on both phones
working for me again after about an 20 hour outage. This bug was really interesting considering it is supposed to be server-side but the client behaving the way it is.

it's called airpush. one of your apps is the culprit. download AirPush Detector (link below) to tell you what app is doing it.

I had it a while ago, it was coming from a live wallpaper i downloaded. I noticed it in the "running services" menu. I just uninstalled it, now it's gone!

It really infuriates me that today's phones are becoming the target of malware / spyware as bad as PC's. Before long we will be seeing fake anti virus alerts and everything else now common on desktops & laptops. If I were able to develop software, the last thing I would do is put crap like that in my software for a few cents revenue. /ENDRANT

Technically, if anything, it's akin to adware. But technically it's legit. I am all for in app ads, but to spam me with crap when I'm not even using the app is too much. Adding to that, there are even more ads in the game. I recommend that before uninstalling that you rate the app 1 star and leave a short review stating this app uses airpush to put garbage in your notification bar.
Thanks for that idea, I'm going to start doing that, I rate apps occasionally.

Thanks, had this popping up with a green plus sign in my status bar. Removing "Android System Tools" the ads have seemed to stop.
I had this problem and asked here as well.
I found out it happens when I run in combo; Adfree and then run "Bloat Freezer Free"

If you are talking about the original Bloat Freezer by Trey Holland, then you are being duped, FYI.
Bloat Freezer has data forwarding to ad sites built into its framework. That's why it was yanked from Google Market. There is an imitator app with the same name now on Play, but look at the comments and you'll see that Trey is still pushing his apps.
Here is an XDA thread where I show this to be true, backed by other users.
Here is androidunderground article attesting the same thing
Edit: And I just now saw that you specified "Bloat Freezer Free" which is indeed the offending app. Get rid of it ASAP and find another way to freeze. Titanium Backup does it (although not as well, last I checked. That is what makes it so irritating. The app was well engineered and didn't need the underhanded theft to justify its existence).

Its not samsung apps lol
those are just to set up your email/on line accounts
the ones with the star and "youve just won.." are apps from the market
or if you downloaded a "paid app" for free it could of been modified to push air ads

Ok so all the ads i see pop up are samsung. Ha. You have no idea what u are talking about. The very first day i got the phone all stock apps were installed and i got the ads that night. When i uninstalled samsung apps and featured app it stopped and i havent gotten any. A few weeks later i installed them and what do u know....i got the ads. Little green plus sign and orange and red star. I know my phone and how to use it so idk where u get off saying i dont know what im talking about.

Then to help the rest of the community out, why not run Addons Detector and let us know which Samsung app is giving the airpush ads? Seems nobody else has mentioned it that I know of except you. That would also settle the argument. A screenshot would say it all.

How am i supposed to do that. I have the airpush detector but it has no apps in it. Doesnt register anything. Had one the other day but say what the source was. Was getting them 4 to 5 times a week when the samsung and featured app was installed. Took it off and havent had anything. You dont have to believe me and u sure as hell dont need to run your mouth thinking you know everything. I was voicing my experiance.

Had my phone since June

Got this phone back in June. I love. Never had the need to root it. However my SMS takes long to load. Group text messaging is so bad it shuts down the stock messaging app.. The stock text messaging function is virtually useless at times. I do not use any other messaging apps to make it clear.
Any Help?
How many messages do you have?

its usually group texts that im in. The group texts accumulate to 9-10 thousand messages a month. I just recently cleaned out 7 group texts that date back as far as july. Yes I have had running conversations for that long LOL. Might as well open a forum for my group of friends smh.

Mark all open, Gmail *

This might be an obvious Q&A but how do you mark all unopened mail from within Gmail open? All at once I mean. I'm one of those cats who have a crazy amount unopened so I can't really keep on top of my mail bc the counter constantly shows 999+ lol..
Thanks in advance,
ds

Unfortunately there is no way to do this from within the Gmail app at this time. Your best bet is to do it from your Gmail account through the Web and sync your folders.
