HDMI Adapter

So I recently purchased this MicroUSB adapter for my Galaxy note. It works perfect most of the time but sometimes have random HDMI signal loss when messing around with the device. Many other people have experienced this with other MHL adapters with other devices, so I figured it could just be the software. Overall the whole experience isnt as smooth as I assumed(lag?).
Does anyone know how to just render graphics through HDMI and not on the Note Display?
I bought one:
A little cheaper and works great, very few issues with the signal drop out...
As far as i know - it only works in mirror mode - whats on the Note is on the TV.
Apparently this HDMI cable charges the phone while it's in use.

Yes, but you must connect a charger/power source to it to work, kinda like a power injector. Still accomplishes the goal, you obviously are getting no juice from your TV or monitor.
I use THIS by Menotec. So far, about 20 movies, no signal drops yet.

That sucks... I think hdmi output only would greatly reduce the lag, esp when playing games.

TVs that support MHL can power and recharge devices through the HDMI port. It's the best part about Mobile High-definition Link. My guess is that product isn't really MHL.

Then perhaps this is a convience feature for TVs that do not fully support MHL and will accept the HDMI signal but not passing power downstream. One way to find out, someone has to test this theory.
Anyone with a Samsung UN55D8000 or UN55D6300 TV? I know those have MHL support. Unfortunately, I have the prior year's model.

It says here you need adequate power to drive the adapter. Maybe while using your device, you drained some power. Also maybe the AWG on your cable had something to do with it too.

I have the Infuse HDMI cable - it does not seem to work. Is it the adapter or the fact that I am running a ROM and Kernels from this forum?

I have a UN60D8000 and silly me have always been using the power adapter for the phone.
I'll have to try it without the power to see if it works.
Cause if the 55D8000 has MHL support then the 60" VERSION should.

The tricky thing about the infuse one is that you have to connect everything else to it then connect the microusb to the phone. It works because I've been using it.

Monoprice.com restocked on MHL Adapters

Hi,
I've read about these before on the same forum etc... but looked for that individual one and could not find the same thread so I started this one.
They ran out before and have had some good reviews for the evo 3D and just recently received an email stating that they were restocked.
http://www.monoprice.com/products/p...=10833&cs_id=1083314&p_id=8805&seq=1&format=2
From what I've heard they have been very good so far and well I did just finally order mine. I know that there are other ref. to this product ( sorry I didn't find it in search) but to anyone that missed out there is the link. Also not bad for a little under 13.00....
Just wanted to put it out there for you all

Yeah, I posted a thread about the monoprice ones. I got it and it works perfectly.
This is very useful for US users, I bought a MHL adapter from Dealextreme. I know they have some issues with delivery at the moment, they are still struggling to deliver all the goods. I live in Eastern Europe and this was the only way to get one (well, I bought 2, one for me and one for a friend). It costs at least 29 USD plus another 5 USD for transportation in Romania. Delivery is free, I recommend to add a tracking number for 1,2 USD on Dealextreme. Build quality is very good, it comes in its own package, I am very satisfied with it.
Edit: I have just tested it with a 23 inches monitor. It works like a charm. I don't own a TV, so I could see if sound is sent through the adapter.
thanks OP, just ordered
This was the first MHL adapter I received, and it works well. But it may not be the best. If you have, or want to buy the HTC dock in the future - the monoprice adapter will not fit well with it. You would have to carve away some plastic to get them to work together.
One reason you might want to use a dock as much as possible - is that after 9 months, my HDMI signal started going out. I got a replacement phone - and it restored MHL output. I believe that after much monkeying around, the port got physically damaged. The first replacement phone I got from Sprint - also had the same problem.
Besides that - I have 2 no-name adapters that charge faster, with no visible loss in quality. I just picked up the official Samsung adapter out of curiousity - but don't see any advantage with it yet.
In a couple of days - I was going to post a review thread to comment on the 4 adapters I have right now. Though I think I'm going to return the Samsung adapter.
received mine in the mail last week. It works well, not the best and vidz that you do have really have to be high quality.
( phone to my 55" plasma) but as long as they are worthy quality it is not bad at all. Well worth the money! I should have bought a couple but oh well, I did notice a small glitch here and there but I would assume that is because running a custom rom and custom kernel would add to that issue. Can anyone else confirm glitches w/ stock or is it bc i have the set up I do have that is making it that way?
thanx again for any input on that topic,
Z
Dumb questions. Any special apps required to output to TV using the MHL adapter? Or is it just plug and play? Can you adjust the orientation of the screen on the TV?

I have a Evo V 4G; it's basically a 3D for Virgin Mobile. On Evo V 4G, it's running ICS and Sense 3.6, but identical hardware. Anyhow, I bought this adapter from Monoprice, and it seems to output to 720p by default. Not sure how to switch to different resolution. It is plug and play. Plug everything in, and TV screen shows the same contents. Played a movie via MX Player and it looks pretty good.
Thanks its pretty good price!

Xperia S with Moto Lapdock

Hey everybody,
few months ago i purchased the Moto Atrix 4G which is an awesome device, the reason i bought it for is the lapdock and the HD media dock, i loved the concept of Webtop system, anyway after that i got bored of the 4" screen as my main phone is the note with 5.3" HD Screen so i went for the Moto Razr as the secondary phone, i had to do little mods to the sockets to make them fit the Razr due to the differences in the positions of the USB and HDMI cables, anyways it worked like charm, when i saw the Sony Xperia S, i loved the camera bcuz the highest res. cams i have are the Razr's 8MP and the Note's 8MP so before purchasing the SXS i checked on the TV Launcher option and i loved it, then i checked on the physical connectors interfaces and noticed that the SXS has normal Micro HDMI and normal Micro USB with OTG, i knew i would be able to use the Moto Lapdock with my SXS, so i bought it as my 2ndry phone and its amazing, now while im enjoying my movies, web surfing, mailing, messaging on my SXS with lapdock i took some pictures to show to the community, the only problem im facing is the slowness of the mouse cursor as i googled alot and couldn't get it to go faster bcuz in the gingerbread models there isn't an option for cursor speed as in the HoneyComb, Here we go with the Pix...
Nice - does the dock have a second battery to charge the phone (And if so does it work)?
How much modding did you need to do to the dock?

Yes it has a battery that can charge the phone and last for 8 hours, but for the SXS when the lapdock lid is closed it charges the xperia, once the lid is opened it stops charging i guess this happens due to the USB OTG of the SXS, on the Razr & Atrix there is USB OTG but without power output unlike the SXS you can use most of the usb devices and they will be powered by the SXS it self, so if we could mod the USB OTG cable it would charge and work as usb host at the same time
sorry forgot ur second que. i did nothing but disassebling the socket which was by removing a couple of screws from the external socket housing which is separate from the rest of the lapdock housing, then i removed the two cables off the plastic holding them, if i could get micro HDMI female to male extension cable, and micro usb OTG extension cable it would be much better to freely move the SXS...
Can the Lapdock be bought on its own?
Yes...

i purchased the Atrix 4G and the Lapdock as a package, but it can be purchased separately from motorola, there is another model that has larger screen and built-in webcam, mine is Lapdock 100 the other model is Lapdock 500
Yeah, had a look.

Nice but not really worth the price tag for me.
Dude i bought both of the atrix and the lapdock fot 300$ as a package, and also bought the HD docking station with hdmi out,a charger, audio out and 3 usb ports for something like 60$ it was totally worthy then sold the atrix for the same price of the package and bought the razr as an upgrade, i couldnt hook up the galaxy note and galaxy tab to the lapdock bcuz of MHL issue so i bought the xperia s bcuz its the most suitable device for usage with lapdock ,i dont use any of my tablets anymore due to laptop like feeling with the great looking dock(slim as tge macbook air with matt metal housing) and could access all my files at the sametime in addition to the comfort of full keyboared, sorry for the long reply, i feel like i wrote a story
Yeah, will keep an eye for one at a better price. Laptop is nearly dead at this point and my Dropad just isnt reliable so it'd be nice to have something the odd time I need it.
Btw, no offence but that isnt a long post, not by a long stretch

Really interested in getting this for my XS
couple of questions, I watched a couple of videos on youtube, I see the cable attaches with the usb and hdmi right next to each other. So you separate these how exactly to make them work with the XS And when the XS is docked, how does the phone sit like can you use it on the go on the train etc? or is it too loose.
Does everything work fine, like the usb ports, microphone socket, speakers etc. with the Xperia S? Lastly you say the cursor can't be made faster in gingerbread, will the option be available in ICS?
thanks for the help, going see how cheap I can find it
Edit:
many thanks hunix!
i've just bought one purely based on your post!

Is there anything special about this cable?
Where is the point of buying "official cable" ? There is no way that cable can damage Your phone. "official" cable also dont give better video quality, this is digital signal, You can see the image or not, simple as that. Anyways, there is no "Xperia S" official hdmi cable, there is only Sony Ericsson certified one, which i got with my phone. Search for : IM820 .
there is no need to buy the original one ... you can use a cable with this specification:
microHDMI (Typ D) XPERIA S Side <--------> HDMI (Type A) TV, Beamer ... Side
Klassification HDMI 1.2a
Just look at ebay. I bought one for only 3 dollars (incl. shipping)

Mini HDMI type-C

Will this work with TF101. I have the standard HDMI cable laying around in my house and thought using this mini HDMI adaptor might work..
It will work, but I don't recommend that type since it puts a lot of stress on the connector and may cause it to fail earlier.
So which one do you recommend? There's some micro HDMI and some mini HDMI and there's type-d and so on.. kind of confuse!! Thanks!
I'm not into the super expensive type... a working one should be sufficient..
Use a cable that goes from the mini HDMI to the normal HDMI.

Do you have a picture of it? So I can buy the correct one..
The correct one should look just like a normal HDMI cable, except it would have a mini HDMI on one end.
