I9100G rooting "ITS G" and updating kernels - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi friends
U may be knowing that there is other method for rooting i9100g instead of using ODIN.
Its DOOMLORD'S rooting method.(SMALL ALTERATION IN NEEDED IN ROOTING TOOLKIT BEFORE ROOTING) http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/2068824
Advantages:
-NO yellow triangle at startup.
-NO increase in binary count.
-Easiest way.
-I think u can unroot also by UNrooting toolkit( havent tried). http://www.darkyrom.com/community/index.php?threads/root-guide-zergrush-method.7327/
-Root without flashing any customed kernel if u want to. (U can flash other custom kernels with the help of other easiest kernel flasher tool called- "initial CF root flasher" - ( http://www.wuploadsearch.com/downlo...f_root_flasher.rar-wupload-download-link.html ). Even then no yellow triangle and no increase in binary count.
I recommend to flash with this method. i have tried it on XWKJ2 firmware 2.3.6 (GTI9100G).
I HAve tried it on XWLA1, It does not worked for me.
To flash any kernel with "initial CF root flashing kit", u hav to extract "xyz.tar" kernel file and look for "zImage" file and put it in Zimage folder. AS ur already rooted so click "already-rooted.bat" and follow the on screen instructons carefully
You will find detailed method on various other forums (http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/2068824 ). I will provide the softwares and rooting method later on or u can google around and u will find method on other forums and rooting kit along with it.
ITS THE BEST ONE
Till now the best custom kernel is SUPERATMOS 3.0 for i9100g (XWLA1 based)- works on XWKJ2 also.
After lot of CF-Benchmarkings and at any governor ur CPU speed comes out to be EXACT "1200mhz". As previously said that i9100g is capped at 1008mhz.
And in performance governor mode, ur benchmark points shoot beyond the Galaxy SII model.

Was there a question in there? The [Q] in your subject heading indicates you have a question, but I didn't see one in all that rambling. (which, incidentally, regurgitates a bunch of information that has already been posted more times than I can count)
There's already a sticky for this info.

Sorry wrongly clicked question option.
I m just mentioning it bcoz lot of people use odin method and they land up with yellow triangle and usb jig doesn't work on new firmwares and binary count doesn't got reset with stock kernel with odin method. Very often so many people doesn't mention this method and we hav to search a lot where rooting and flashing kernel explained together without having trouble with yellow triangle and binary count.
Thnks

Lastly I have applied most of the mods available till now on stocked i9100g except ntfs3g. I just want to share them.

*sigh*
But again, there are stickies for this info. If everybody posts this stuff (which, unfortunately, lots of people do already) it just saturates the forum, actually ending up making it HARDER for people to find stuff.

Whatev dude. I don't hold any power here anyways. Just giving my personal opinion.

I'm using an I9100g with build DZKL3. I haven't come across any method to safely root my phone. Can anyone verify for sure a method that worked? DZKL3 was released in Dec 2011. (I'm Malaysian). My phone specs below:
Samsung Galaxy S2 I9100G
Model number: GT-I9100G
Android version: 2.3.6
Baseband: I9100GDZKL3
Kernel: 2.6.35.7 [email protected] #2

[Q] Rooting the Samsung Galaxy S2 - India Version

Okay guys, First off I apologize if my post is too noobish. Yes I am a noob at all this.
I rooted my phone using steps mentioned here - http://samsunggalaxys2review.org/forum/showthread.php?tid=43
I bought my phone in india with the KE8 update, and now the About Phone section shows the following:
Android Version - 2.3.3
Bsaeband Version - I9100DDKE2
Kernel Version: 2.6.35.7-I9100XWKDD-CL 161513
Build Number: GINGERBREAD.XWKE8.
I read about a post for rooting the galaxy S2 here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1101671
and am a little bit confused. Firstly did I do the rooting with a piece of old software or something? Do I need to do the rooting again or flash my phone with some other latest software ?
Can someone please spoon feed me some info about:
1. Whether I need to infact update my software and flash my phone again
2. If so how?
Thanks a lot guys, and again sorry for being too noobish :S
flash CF-root KE8 kernal as per
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399
that way you can keep your KE8 and have Root AFAIK
(take no responsibility blah blah blah)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1101671
I found this thread here and here they have given source of the Stock KE8 Kernel. Since i have already rooted my phone, is it enough if I just flash my phone with this stock kernel to have the latest software in my phone?

yes just download the stock kernel KE8 and flash over the rooted one, and your phone will still be rooted
Well I have rooted mine yesterday after a 3 hours effort. I think there should be a thread for Noobs like OP and me which will elaborate the Steps & Methods, the Application needed etc. in a Simple way with good demonstration. Not everybody had Android before, so for the new comers this is hard, very hard to understand all these. Like I am now having difficulties with ADB, I don't even know where to install it and from where, how to use it? The devs are very easy with these stuffs and they just mention the software name, but we, newcomers to Android are getting puzzled. It's a like a 5 year old baby has to face class X straightaway.
Some basic faqs SGS1 mostly same SGS2 .

Thanks mate. Just 1 more question:
Firmware info
PDA:XWKE8
PHONE: DDKE2
CSC:ODDKE2
Build date: 18/05/2011
Generic India (ODD): www(dot)multiupload(dot)com/6OZ2KOHB07
XWKE8 Stock Kernel: www(dot)multiupload(dot)com/ZTRYIQ5S35
There was another thread where I found this. Which here should I use? What is ODD Generic India and what is the difference between this and the Stock Kernel?
And btw here is a guy that explains everything in detail on youtube:
I followed his instructions, and did exactly what he did and rooted my phone in 10 mins

This is the stock kernel which came from the Samsung factory. The phone is NOT rooted if you did not root it. You can do rooting with an insecure kernel and then revert back to the stock kernel, keeping the root intact.

[Q] ZSKF4/ZSKI3 Device Root?

Hey all,
I'm a beginner in this rooting society, moving over from jailbreak development on iOS. I am wondering how I would be able to root a Galaxy S2 with model/kernel number ZSKF4 running 2.3.3.
Not sure if this is the proper place to put this, but I've searched everywhere and no place is providing an insecure/original rom for rooting with this kernel number on the file name.
Can somebody help me?
Many thanks,
Nicholas
UPDATE: Anyone know how to root ZSKI2 running on 2.3.5?
Root + CWM .
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399
Read the post in regard to versions /kernel matching first .
jje
Thank for your reply.
Many guides like the one you gave me, requires kernel matching first, but really, I'm entirely lost in this matching process. Can you give me some heads up on what to choose using my specs I list below?
My Galaxy S II:
Model Number: GT-I9100
Android Version: 2.3.3
Baseband Version: I9100XXKE4
Kernel Version: 2.6.35.7-I9100ZSKF4-CL280225
Build Number: GINGERBREAD.ZSKF4
If you can help me, I will be very grateful.
Thanks a lot!
Nicholas
Instructions in the post are .
Don't worry too much, just find the matching download and use it. What if there is no matching download ? You can ask me to make one, but I can tell you right now, I very very rarely make CF-Root's for kernels on request, unless it is the very latest kernel that has been released by Samsung. In the latter case, be sure to let me know. If there's no match and I'm not making one, try finding the closest match. You should treat "KG1" as a number, but instead of 1-9, we have 1-9, A-Z (where A would be 10, and Z would be 35). "KG2" is really close to "KG1", "KF1" is not close to "KG1" at all.
You want then a KF4 kernel from post 5 .
jje
This one from post 4 should do it: CF-Root-SGS2_ZS_OZS_KF4-v4.0-CWM4.zip
You have a HK/Taiwan phone? If you install Kies you should be able to upgrade to the official ZSKG2. Although that is still 2.3.3 so not much difference there.
Yes, I have a HK/Taiwan phone,
Thanks guys,
So if I have ZSKF4 right now, I'll use "CF-Root-SGS2_ZS_OZS_KF4-v4.0-CWM4.zip"?
If I upgraded to the latest ZSKG2, will there be any difference comparing to ZSKF4? because you said its the same 2.3.3.
Okay, well after looking at the instructions, I got a little freaked out of how long it actually is, and was pretty worried if I do this, I would get a triangle at boot because I'm using Custom Kernel? Also I heard that many people don't want to use CF-Root because there's a higher risk of bricking comparing to SuperOneClick that I used to root my Galaxy Tab 7. So, I checked on something else.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1125414
Thats a one click rooting app for the S2, but what is this "Flashing an Insecure Kernel" and how do I get this kernel for either ZSKF4 or ZSKG2? I prefer the most easiest way so that I wouldn't run into a huge risk of bricking this device. Thanks for all the help on CF-Root above, but would you guys happen to know what exactly is going on in this link?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1101671
That contains all the insecure kernels for the S2 one click rooting application. Which one do I choose if I have ZSKF4 or ZSKG2?
Thank you everyone for helping me,
Nicholas
Rooting with CF-Root is very easy, just start up Odin, click the boxes like it says in the instructions, and it's done in less than a minute. You can use the other method, but if I were you I would just go with CF-Root because 1) so many people have done it and 2) at least you know one person (me) who did it on their HK/Taiwan phone and came out fine (and I was a complete root noob at the time).
I think whether you upgrade to ZSKG2 first depends on why you want to root. If you are rooting so that you can install a custom ROM, then no need to upgrade to ZSKG2. Just root your phone and install the new ROM and you're good to go.
But if you want to keep the Samsung firmware and only rooting so that you can run certain apps or do certain mods, then upgrade to ZSKG2 through Kies first, then root. There is nothing really bad about the Samsung firmware. I run Cognition 1.5.1 + SpeedMod, but it's mostly just for the fun of it. I don't do anything on it that I couldn't do with rooted 2.3.3 Samsung firmware.
And yes, you do get the bright yellow triangle at startup. There are ways to remove it, but I haven't tried. I like the triangle, it's like a little badge of honor for power users.
Yeah, I'm only rooting for just certain apps that require root/superuser requirements. Other than that, I won't put a load of mods on.
So, if I go to Kies, upgrade to ZSKG2, then I begin rooting, would I be using:
CF-Root-SGS2_ZS_OZS_KG2-v4.1-CWM4.zip
But the thing that scares me is that it says "ZS_OZS_KG2: Untested", does that mean it would be risky to do it?
Hey just noticed in the General forum that the official ZSKI2 is out - and its version 2.3.5 to boot. Check it out: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1281717
Yeah the "untested" means the author did not try it personally (can't really expect him to test every kernel from every region). I used it and it worked fine -- that's all I can really say.
Oh wow, that looks pretty cool....
I'm sure I can update to that, which I will, but, does this mean I have to wait for another rooting procedure?
I have a crazy "OCD" that I have to always stay up to date haha. So yeah, if I do this, logically if the CF-Root is able to root it, I will have to wait for a person to make the ZSKI2 kernel insecure version?
Actually, okay, when I upgrade to ZSKI2 kernel, which "CF-Root-SGS2_ZS_OZS_KG2-v4.1-CWM4.zip" do I use? I don't see a ZSKI2 kernel anywhere...and I'm assuming I can still use CF Root to root at 2.3.5?
You can use a version that is close -- in this case I think XX_OXA_KI3 is the best match. It will probably work with the ZSKI3 firmware -- but I have not tried. (Sorry I mistyped the name in my earlier post, it is ZSKI3 and not ZSKI2.) If you want to be safe then yes you will need to wait until there is a rooted ZSKI3 kernel that you can use.
If you plan to install a custom ROM, then it does not matter what kernel you use for root, since the custom ROM will generally come with its own rooted kernel and it will replace whatever you had before.
For some reason, Kies isn't letting me update.
It says: "This version of this device cannot be updated"
Do you know why this is happening?
By the way, I noticed when I plug in my phone to Kies, I see under CSC, in brackets are (KOR). What does this mean and does it affect any rooting?
UPDATE: I know what KOR means, it means it's a Korean region based device. Is there any difference to what I may be able to update to in Kies or any rooting differences?

How to flash Chinese I9100G ??

Hi,
I am sorry for the newbie question.
I just bought a Galaxy S2 GT-9100G here in China.
Only after buying did I realise it is a 'G' model. damn.
anyway - I would like to 'reformat' the device, and place an Israeli ROM on it.
I hope I am using the correct terms.
The reason for this - is that the chinese version comes without Android Market,
and other stuff (and the Israeli one does).
1. Do I need to root the device first before I can change the ROM ?
2. If so - I have seen in this link
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=18099806
that flashing the kernel is the only way to root the device.
I have flashed my brother's Galaxy S2 (I9100) a month ago, using the steps shown here:
http://samsunggalaxys2review.org/root-your-samsung-galaxy-s2-heres-how/
(used OdinDownloader and SuperOneClick). Do I do the same with this device ?
Which file do I supply to Odin ??
3. Is there anyway to flash the Israeli ROM on this device ?
or it won't work, cause Israeli ROM is only for I9100 and my device is I9100G ?
If not - what can I do in order to flash a new ROM with built-in Android Market ?
Thanks to everyone who can help !!!
If u flash the new rom to your phone, it no need to root!
I own a I9100T, I flash it to I9100, it work fine, so I think u can flash it to an Israeli ROM.
Check this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1192575
In general, be careful about flashing the China phones. It seems they went out of their way to make sure those phones comply with China's government restrictions.
i9100G got KH4 and KI1 rom, u need to donload insecure kernel to root them

So, ghmail, are you saying you have managed to do so yourself ?
Change the ROM on an I9100G to any ROM you want ?
On the topic - how can I backup everything on my device ?
I mean - the bootloader, the ROM and all the other stuff I might mess up if I brick my phone ...
Please remember..u cant flash any I9100 custom rom because its diff between I9100 and I9100G..If u flash it the phone will be semi bricked and u need to flash back to the ori rom of I9100G KH4 or KI1..
China GT-19100G-ZCLC2
Hi People, I am a total novice here. I have been reading your forms for few weeks now, since i Bought this SGS II-I9100G in China [Big Mistake ?? :-( ]
This is my phone :
Model - GT-19100G
Android - V 2.3.6
Baseband - 19100GZCLC2
Kernel - 2.6.35.7 [email protected] #2
Firmware : PDA:LC2 / Phone:LC2 / CSC:LC2 (CHN)
I read thro creezalird pdf user guide and as guessed DooMLoRD_v4_ROOT' dint work with both methods on my phone.
I just want to root the phone so I can install few useful apps, no fancy stuff like flasing or custom rom etc. As you know even google play is blocked. Can someone point me to right link/guide me to do it.
I did read many articles (too many of your forum's) and probably why Im now totally confused. Reason is I do not see anything pointing to ZCLC2. Maybe I am not looking hard enough.
I got it done using superatom's kernel. Now all sw works on chinese phone.

No odin it is a flash tool to flash entire rom or kernel.
Kernel are normally rooted so you can flash a tar file in pda and obtain root and cmw to flash custom rom.
To flash you have to put phone in download mode.
Custom rom have different graphics and some feature but battery life is same.
I suggest you cf root kernel to root and gain cmw.
Also to know your firmware version dial *#1234* and check pda

Please read the Quick Root Guide in Intratech's first post of this thread => http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
He describes two rooting method, but as you are running a relatively new ROM, the zergRush exploit method won't work for your phone. (The other rooting method will work fine.)
The easiest rooting method is to flash a rooted kernel, such as CF-Root.
Here is Chainfire's thread => http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399&highlight=CF+Root
Stick to his description.
There are a lot of other "good" kernels which will root your phone, increase performance and extend battery life (e.g. SpeedMod, Siyah, NEAK and RedPill).
You will have to search a little bit and then make your own decision.
P.S.: After flashing an insecure/custom kernel, you will get a yellow triangle at boot and the binary counter will be increased.
That's why Intratech and Chainfire also describe how to get rid of the yellow triangle. Or you buy a USB Jig to remove the yellow triangle and reset the counter.

Need help rooting

Hey guys, I'm new to this forum and rooting in general and I've been having a bit of trouble. I've read a ton of tutorials on how to root Galaxy S2's but I'm still struggling to get my head around it all so I was wondering if I gave people the appropriate details if you could point me in a direction of a easy to follow tutorial that will work with my phone.
Model: GT-I9100
Version: 2.3.5
Kernel: 2.6.35.7-I9100BOKK1-CL511356 [email protected] #2
Build: GINGERBREAD.BOKK1
Also I installed KIES yesterday and ran it today but it says it doesn't recognise my device so that's a bit puzzling.
Thanks in advance.
KK1 is the only one GB version for which neither CF-root nor insecure kernel available for rooting, better you flash another GB ROM from stock ROM link of my signature search for XWLA2,
and find CF-root link for find matching CF-root to Root
Before you do anything, check the sticker under your battery on the chassis of the phone to ensure you have an I9100 or I9100T.
Once you've done that, CFRoot thread. Pay particular attention to the bit that says " Help ! Which file do I use ?"
Reconmended for noobs
you should use zergrush or GingerBreak so that you dont end up with a yellow triangle, its as easy as 1 click
press thx if i helped
Thanks for the help guys. Cabloomi will zergrush work on my phone because I was reading around and people were saying it wouldn't work anymore? Sorry if I have a lot of questions but I don't really want to F up my phone lol.
there are many ways for rooting, but most followed and success way is CF-root
after rooting with other method your second thread will be asking how to flash a CWM take the answer now itself : CF-root and avoid your second thread
Yeah it will work on anything under 2.3.5 and if it doesnt just use gingerbreak

You said this "KK1 is the only one GB version for which neither CF-root nor insecure kernel available for rooting, better you flash another GB ROM from stock ROM link of my signature search for XWLA2," earlier in the thread which I don't understand at all, could you explain more please? Does it mean I can't use CF-root because there isn't a way to do it for KK1 or what? Sorry I'm very new to this lol.
From the CFRoot thread "If there's no match...try finding the closest match." I did say read that section carefully.
CF-root is a stock kernel of the ROM in which root & CWM inserted , the devoloper (chainfire) made this for almost all the Samsung firmware kernel version available, we only need to pick matching one to our Kernel version.
But we dont know why the KK1 firmware is not leaked from samsung, it is not available in the sammobile.com also...
but you can follow the following word of the devoloper:
The XX and OXA identifiers are not that important. Usually a "KG1" kernel is a "KG1" kernel, and that is that. Sometimes (pretty rare) it happens there will be multiple different kernels with the same name in different firmwares, that are actually different. If this happens, they are usually only very minor changes and you should expect them to still be fully compatible. I include the "XX" and "OXA" identifiers so the very advanced users can deduce from which full firmware I have taken the kernel file.
"Don't worry too much, just find the matching download and use it. I hope that makes sense."
following the above you can try with KK2
which is available in the thread, http://download.chainfire.eu/53/CF-Root/SGS2/CF-Root-SGS2_XW_XEN_KK2-v5.0-CWM5.zip
Thank you ever so much guys, I done it and it works perfectly now. I did all this just so I could tweak my phone a bit. You guys don't happen to know any tweaks and what not to make the phone faster/smoother/ etc?
Yep. Read. Research. There are no shortcuts.
FASTEST WAY TO DO ALL THOSE IS JUST TO INSTALL A CUSTOM ROM, I RECOMMEND MIUI, THE LINK IS AVAILABLE IN MY SIGNATURE AND HERE IS THE TUTORIAL VIDEO, DONT FORGET TO SAY THX
