I have 2.3.4 Firmware.
This link should help. Since you have 2.3.4 you probably have to downgrade but check in the instructions just to make sure. Follow the instructions very carefully and you should be ok. Good luck http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=HTC_Vision#Rooting_the_G2

Good day, XDA. I'd like to ask help with regards to rooting my Xperia S. I have recently bought this and it got shipped with ICS 4.0.4 and build number 6.1.A.0.45 and I updated its build number to 6.1.A.2.45. I have also unlocked its bootloader successfully. Now I'm having problems on how to root this. I've read certain posts regarding ICS rooting and they all state that it has to have 6.1.A.0.45 build number. But I don't know how to rollback to the previous build number. What should I do?? Please help..

Just flash Advanced stock kernel v14 by arakmar via fastboot.
What will it let me achieve then, bro?
BTW, thanks for the reply.

I am in the exact situtation as you. I too bought my Xperia S last week and have updated to the latest firmware. As this is my first Android phone, I have no clue how to move forward.
I would be glad if you post your findings. Thanks.

Thanks for the link. but the link you gave is for GB and I am on ICS already. (I know, there is a way to flash to GB but... ) I will better wait for a perfect way for rooting a device with ICS on locked BL installed.
BTW, here
Also, you can never brick your device on LOCKED bootloaders so don't worry
DId he mean unlocked bootloader?

Yea, i too hope someday someone will develop a way to root so that you don't have to go back to GB !!
Only for unlocked bootloader... here is a step by step I put together using the information gathered from various threads here in XDA.. I have used this very same method for my phone, so it is definitely working.. if you run into any problem like not being able to get into the Fastboot mode, or I missed some file, let me know..

Thanks for this bro! I'll try this out later when I get home. Will my data be lost?
So essentially you are just replacing a stock kernel by a rooted kernel. What if I want to go back to the unrooted kernel?

It would be all over the place here if they did. There was some progress with getting the first core to work but that's been the extent of the news. This probably isn't the right phone for people that need an unlocked bootloader.

Okay thanks for the reply.
I was wondering how Carrier and Country affect getting updates? I have a Z Ultra 6802 (HK - came with Chinese apps) and haven't seen the 501 update on my phone yet and I really don't want to unlock the bootloader.
So I guess my ultimate question is: Will I get the update in the US while on AT&T? (I'm ok waiting, just want to know)
Thanks,
toonhead

Eventually. Or you can do what I did and flash a generic 510. Then use PC companion to repair if it doesn't work properly. When repaired, a new version of 510 is installed by Sony that works.

Look at the opening posts for both these threads. The first shows you how to flash the firmware that will need repair and the second will show you how to repair.

Hi all,
I have Sony Xperia Z Tablet which I want to gain root access for.
Device details:
Model number: SGP311
16GB
Android 4.3
Build Number: 10.4.B.0.577
Not sure if relevant, but the tablet was bought in USA.
I'm pretty much a newbe here, so I would like, if possible, to get a link for a simple tutorial how to root my device.
10'x!
If only there was a search button...

Hi Felimenta97,
Thanks for your reply.
I have seen the post you've linked here before I've posted my question (I definitely know how to use the search option ) but its seemed somewhat complicated/Indirect way compare to the simple ways of rooting I'm used to from my 2 other devices (SGS3, Nexus 4)
Is there any simpler/straightforward way?
Thanks in advance!

Nope. There is no current exploit in 4.3 Sony firmware. So, you either unlock your bootloader, or do that process.
Wait till 4.4!
If I was you, I'd wait till KitKat upgrade comes out! after that I'd root my tablet

What about Kingo App?
You think it might do the work?

Isn't that almost always the case with updates?
Anyway, has anyone tried to root this tablet on 4.3 with Kingo App or VROOT?
10'x all for your help!

I tried with VROOT, but seems like there's no update yet. Was researching about 4.3 root methods, there a few, most of them you have to go back to 4.2 and then upgrade, but a direct root, no, I haven't found one yet :good:

It is possible if you don't do it right. However, if you follow the instructions, you should be fine!
