I noticed an issue with my favorite file explorer the other day, when trying to copy a large file over wifi, it would fail every time when letting the tablet sleep. I am using an alternate file explorer for those large file copies but really wish I could move back to ES FE. Anyone have this experience? It fails literally every time I do a file over a few hundred Meg. I don't have the issue on any of my other android devices, but none have ICS. Maybe an issue with ICS and that program? Or just my Prime? It is not losing the signal, just stops the transfer--- still shows that it is going but never completes and file size never changes.
I have the same problem. Beside that I'm somehow unable to cancled a transfer, I had several failed downloads of huge files. Also switched to a different file-browsers which works without problems.
Mine failed too...
Can anyone confirm other devices that have ICS having the issue? It would be helpful to know if it had something to do with ICS or just the prime. I actually installed it based on recommendations from this forum and found issues with it on my first large file transfer... I can agree on how powerful and simple it is but switched over to File Explorer HD because it works. Not that I recommend FEHD, full of ads and still not "HD" enough for the prime
Is there a manual somewhere how to transfer files with wifi using es explorer?

It's not a prime (or ICS) specific problem. It happens frequently across all my devices with ES File Explorer. And as far as I can tell, there's no way to cancel a copy once it's started.
wohli - there may be a manual somewhere but it really is pretty easy. Just tap the "local" selection on the top left corner of the app, then choose LAN. You can either scan for servers with SMB shares or you can attach one by using the "add" dialog, that will ask for user/pw, IP or name, domain (optional). Then hold on a file from one of the shares for the copy option. Then use the same menu at the top left to get back to local, then tap the paste button at the top.
vels13 - Thanks for the info!! Question: Why do you think there are so many people that recommend ESFE if it doesn't even do a decent wifi copy? I have seen it plastered on every "first apps to install" post and "recommended apps" post!!

I actually like the app and use it for wifi copying, but it does halt frequently when copying files over wifi and that's kind of frustrating. Usually happens on really large files or when you queue up a bunch. I don't think I've ever been able to queue up say 10 video files and get them all to finish. The annoying thing is when it finally does stop copying, you can't cancel and restart, you have to force close the app or reboot phone. I've experienced this on transformer prime, galaxy 10.1, and my HTC glacier. Works great for smaller files though.
This is probably obvious, but I believe the Prime is set to turn off wifi when sleeping by default. This might be an ICS default.
You can change it under Wifi->Advanced.
Yeah, same here. Both my phone and Prime have that problem w/ ES.
I don't know if there's a better WiFi file manager on the market but I really like ES.
Even if wifi is set to sleep when the prime does... the prime will not fully sleep with a data stream going of any kind. Other File explorers do not fail when it sleeps.
vels-- Why would you use something that constantly errors, and has the issues that you described? Like I said, I am using File Explorer HD.. at least it works!
Does ANYONE know of a good file explorer that will pull files down from wifi reliably? It would also be nice if it had most of the features from ES and even better yet if it displayed at native resolution for our primes!!!
Anyone?

It works well enough for what I need it for 95% of the time. If I need to transfer a big file or a lot of files, it's quicker to do it over USB anyways.
guys,
you may use airdrod for wi-fi file transfer if that's what you wanted
Try Ghost commander. Not a good interface, but work well for wifi transfer, and you can see a speed - current/average.
it's the same man

Nothing new, the problem still exists, you can't move large files, I'm keeping try to move a 2GB file with no luck.

Anyone try this out yet? If so what's the best app out there? Many thanks in advance

I've been using ES File Explorer. Download it from the market.
I can connect to my NAS and my MAC. Should let me connect my phone as well, but I haven't messed with that yet.
I use Samba Filesharing; it works great over wifi. I'd link it for you, but I don't have enough posts yet.
Astro File Manager and Total Commander can do that as well.
Someone else here just turned me on to File Magager HD- made for the tablet.
Check it out,... on the market.
Here's the link about a couple of differences between ES and File Manager that I noticed.
+ 1 for File Manager HD
Samsung kies works for me.
ES File Explorer works great, if ur trying to stream of a media server UpNserver works well as well..
File Manager HD look good. But how to set it up? What to fill in? I thought it will be easy just like to add new notebook to my home network. I just know the name of my network and the password generated by Win7. Where to find the rest?
I love ES File Explorer as well.

It is easy. Tap on the menu in the upper right corner. Tap on LAN connection. Then Tap on Scan in the upper right hand corner. All of the PCs on your home network should show up.
Then just tap on the PC you want to exchange files with and a dialog panel will show up. In that panel select the option that says it's a secure connection, add in your user ID and password. You should see all the shares on that computer.
As stated above. Easy.
Now if you want to avoid scanning every time. You can assign a Static IP to your computer (with the Router) and use the Create for Bookmarks to the folders you access all the time.
Is anyone else getting really slow transfer speeds when transfering files from the PC to the Prime via USB cable? It was going to take at least 15 minutes to transfer ~125MB worth of files before. Am I doing it wrong or is this a common thing?
it's due to MTP that HC/ICS uses for syncing data, alternatives that speed things up are apps like wifi file explorer, dropbox, box or if you have a microsd card, put that in an adapter, copy files to it and then put it in the tablet and copy to main memory if you want.
I had the same issue..
I was having the same issue with slow speeds, but another thread pointed me to using the airdroid app on the market. Download the app, it then gives you an http address to type into your pc browser and once that is open enter the password they give you and then click the file icon. Once that is open you can see the file structure of the ATP, select which folder you would like to put your files in. In the upper right corner you will see an import icon, click that then in the dialog box click select files, choose which files you want to add and boom they transfer. Much faster. Sorry my directions may be a little confusing, but i think the thread about MKV files is the one that has the detailed info in it. Hope this helps.
Thanks a lot for the replys, I'll give these methods a go now.

Thanks for that. I was getting pretty fed up, I'm not even able to dl'd with my usb cable to the tablet. MTP driver (no many how many times I try to update it) errors out and it can't see my tablet. I'm sure theres a post out there somewhere to fix it but I just don't have much time to dig. BTW, ES Strong File manager lets you access your LAN files also. (assuming you have your network set up properly)
[Q] Cannot copy file "Device has either stopped responding or has been disconnected"
I just bought the Transformer Prime. I started moving my video file folders on my PC straight away. Most files went through, but others (variable extensions, variable sizes... not too big or too small compared to those that got through) wouldn't. I would get a "CANNOT COPY FILE" error, saying that "the device has either stopped responding or has been disconnected". This happens ONLY with these specific files. I tried moving them individually, same problem. Tried changing the extensions, same problem.
I found a thread on the Xoom forum which advised to turn on USB debugging, which I did. Didn't help at all. Any advice?
NB - It's quite weird; but the way it happens is the entire file starts copying, and right after it's done, I get this message, offering me to either "Stop copying or "Skip this file".
If you are using Android file transfer, I found it very buggy and annoying. I switched to using swiftp on my prime and using filezilla to ftp files over. More reliable. Also, someone mentioned airdroid which has a web ui. I like standard ftp better though.

That's quite a pain. It's also disappointing to know I'll need a 'special app' just to move files. The problem btw disappeared once I restarted my prime, but I wonder what other problems lie ahead.
I cannot seem to reliably transfer files between my Nexus S and my Prime using bluetooth. I almost always get a "Service Discovery Failed" or "Stream Closed" message. Does anyone know anything about this? Is anyone having similar problems?
Update: Upon further research, it might be because of the file type. Frigging ridiculous! It won't accept a .apk file via bluetooth. If you rename it to something else, like .zip the file is accepted. Is Google starting to implement some anti piracy nonsense?
I have lots of games I have purchased using SIM spoofing apps(Android Market does not support my country) on my Nexus S that I cannot access on my unrooted Prime. This is why I want to transfer them over from my Nexus S.
trying doing it via USB or sdcard. What I did was copied a few apks from my infuse to my home cloud drive. And then just used es file explorer from my prime to pull them back down and bad a Bing. Got them apps

That's a viable work around. But, it's tedious to do this for every new app I purchase. Anyway, the renaming file extension works but, I was just taken aback by the need for it.
I have been using androwook rom v1.5 but still can not receive apk files from other devices .. is there any solution other than changing the file extension will be accepted?
I just email the .apk to myself when I want it on another device. Never had an issue that way. Good luck
only zip files it is possible to transfer not apk
Dropbox is awesome for this, I backup apps using Astro & upload them to my Dropbox.
Comes in handy when you download a dud update like the latest YouTube app

I have the App Wifi Explorer Pro which turns my Prime into a Server and then I can go to my PC and Wifi connect to this Prime server and do file transfer. Now this is just being Lazy but is there a way to do this in "reverse". Can I be on my Prime and access my PC via WiFi Network without have to go to my PC to Transfer Files? I have my PC as a Server and when I go to the App MyNet I see my Network and I can Play music Files and view Pictures off my PC though my Prime but I don't see a way I can transfer files off my PC to my Prime with this App. Is there an App for this or is it even possible? Like I said I know this is just being Lazy but would like to know if I could do this.
Thanks
ES file explorer can browse network shares. I use it for my NAS and transfer files to my prime from the luxury of my couch. Don't have my pc setup like yours but if you can access through lan I see no reason it wouldn't work.

Thanks for reply and info. I got the App and it found my PC upon scan but something is Blocking my access. It probably Firewall or something I just need to dig round and see if I can figure out how to set up.
I got ES explorer finally going so it accesses my Network and it transfers files between my Prime and Home Network. The key to making it work if anyone else tries this App is that your PC has to have a User ID with a Password. Since I am the only one using my Home PC I had never created a Log in Password for my User name I had just left it Blank. You have to a Password to make this work.

Wrong
It works perfectly without requiring userid's or passwords. just go to your (assuming ur using w7) W7 computer, go to your network preferences, DISABLE password protected sharing AND let windows manage homegroup settings.
ES file explorer works like a charm BUT it has a big downside, the average throughput is rly disapointing.
Thanks. I am using Win and I didn't know about PW setting.

Surely there must be a way to simply use ES on it's own, I am sharing D: drives on both computers and ES shows a D: as NOT having a $, and it also shows C$, ADMIN$, and strangely a D$. I can open Users and see all those folders, but I have no useful data there, nor do I want to put any there. Could someone pretty please revisit this and give really detailed instructions? ES error message says:
LOGIN FAILURE
This may be caused by:
- The account has no permissions
I'm so close, I just need one more branch down in the tree and I'm there....argh

Use file expert, works all the time...
You should have a look at AirDroid it's free and simple to use I use it all the time to transfer files and entire folders over my wifi.

Believe me. I have tried all file explorers that support shared network drivers (file expert, es file explorer, honeycomb HD file explorer.) All are very slow, although I prefer honeycomb HD fe for its intuitive interface on tablets. But the absolute best in terms of file transfer speed is by far Solid Explorer. Give it a try. I use a Cisco Linksys wireless router.
