[Q] Mass Storage not working - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi there. I recently flashed my Galaxy S2 with CM9. All worked out well until i noticed that when i connect the phone to my computer, the phone charges but the computer doesn't detect it (MTP doesn't work) so i cannot transfer files to or from my phone.
What could possibly be the reason?

If u are on 22/3 nighty then connect cable, drag down notification bar, click on "connected as media device",hten click (PTP) and after a minute again click (MTP)
If this doesn't work then download codeworkx private build 20/3 from cm9 thread(search for it)
If that also doesn't than drivers are missing...

It looks like MTP only very recently got fixed to work in the CM9 nightlies. I know it was not working up until recently, as it was listed on this page as not working last week when I looked.
You may just need a newer version.

Or try the latest beta of siyah kernel, mtp will works normally !

lost USB mounting CM9->Sammy ICS

Hey Folks.
Lost my USB mounting and I don't know why. Switched over from CM9 (mounting in windows works without any problems with the recommend driver) but now when I plugged in my cabel, windows can't installed the driver (using LP7 with CFroot).
I reinstalled the driver, choose manualy the driver but nothing worked.
Any ideas?
Thank you.
try with usb debugging mode...
must be your PC issue....put the cable to the direct mother board socket after PC reboot
Also tried it with USB Debugging on and off on every USB port and two diffrent pcs.
having the same problem since using ics r. remix and still cant fix

Nice to see that I am not the only one.
And yes to all others. We could use airdroid but I am not everytime in the same wlan.
aha well, some ICS roms dont support USB mass storage.. which is gay, but it should go back to normal when you flash back to a GB rom... which is wierd. I find many issues are fixed if... DUN DUN DUUUUUUUNNNN you unroot then reroot. This will delete all your shiz, so makesure you have a few CWM system backups saved
You probably know this, but i hope it helps

Could you list what LP7 rom you got (stock?).
Do you mean USB Mass Storage (ICS style) or MTP (GB style)?
I'm on WanamLite v10.7 (also LP7) with Siyah 3.0.1.
I didn't try stock LP7 / CF-Root so I'm not sure what might be the reason in that setup but here everything is working great.
You might want to try to download the latest Kies (even if you don't use it) and get the latest drivers that way - some times helps.
Hey.
Runing this rom:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=24753451&posted=1#post24753451
Which is nearly stock...deodexed and so on...
I am running atm the old LP7, now i saw that chainfire released the actual WLP7 (will flash it tonoght).
I mean the ICS mounting method. It is the stock one from this rom.
Kies is a good idea. Will also try it this evening.
Thanks for your help.

USB mass storage
Hi,
That doesn't seem to work with the latest updates of ICS (4.0.4?). When plugging in the HTC Desire, I get the USB notofication and tapping on that allows selection of mounting the USB mass storage. However, on my Galaxy S2, I don't get the USB notification and so no option to mount USB. Under settings -> More - I don't have any USB utilities.
I'm running CM9 nightly from Apr 13th and Siyah 3.1rc2 kernel. Anyone else?

known issue in the latest AOKP ICS...heard that you can access through MTP
access through mtp
Thanks for the hint about MTP and glad I'm not losing the plot re AKOP known problem....
I had seen the device show up and assumed it was MTP, but there is no indication on the phone that it is connected thru MTP. I didn't want to try anything in case I messed up. Not a pressing issue for the mo, though. I presume the BYT (bright young things) will work this out soon...

[Q] Samsung Galaxy Tab 7500 (3G) not detectable

Hi everyone,
I am new to this forum, i have gone through a number of post to understand how to root and flash my tab 7500 with pershoot's EXPERIMENTAL ROM. After I install everything in the tablet is working fine but when I connect to pc it is not detecting as a storage device. But the tablet is charging when I am connecting to PC (This was new, it never charged with previous official ICS). I tried recovering to my previous official ICS by recover option in CWM. Then tab is getting detected by PC and it is not in charging mode.
Is this some issue with the firmware? Or am i missing something simple? Please help me out..
I have tried searching for this issue on internet but couldn't get any useful info regarding that.
I am experincing same issue, but with ics stock ROM, which I have flashed from 3.2 stock rom. When I connect the cable to pc, tablet does the sound, but won't start the mtp server, and computer cant see it.
Problem solved
Seems like this is a small setting that needs to be selected.
Go to Settings>Storage>USB Computer Connection and check MTP checkbox.
After I did that my system is detecting it as a storage device and also charging it
@kosciCZ : You might also want to check that setting.

I am afraid that this is not that case. I checked it multiple times, tried the other option, but it still does nothing.

Wont mount or connect to computer after CM 10.1

Since flashing CM 10.1 nightlies back in december i hav't been able to connect it to any computers. It'll charge off usb just fine but wont connect for file transfer. I have Siyah v7.6.8-S for the i777 and everything works great except the usb functions like data transfer and usb teather. Anyone else have similar problems?
Edit: Right now i have the 20130208 nightly but none of the other cm10.1's have workd, but cm 9 and 10 both did. Also i've tried on my laptop which is ubuntu and other windows machines to no avail.
Using the Samsung version of the kernel on an aosp based Rom? Interesting choice. (Although the differences most likely are just Wi-Fi hot spot related). Also make sure you have all the drivers installed for your device on the computer. And of course try different usb ports.

[Q] Can't connect rooted SGS2 to Windows 8

Hi guys,
When I try to connect my SGS2 to my laptop which is running Windows 8, the laptop shows that the phone and memory card are connected but when I click them, no files are present inside.
The connectivity works fine on my PC running on Windows XP. Please help out.
PS- My SGS2 is rooted with Neat ROM Lite 4.4 and I have downloaded Samsung drivers and installed. What else needs to be done?

Does your computer not show it in device manager or does it not show up under Kies?
Had same issue here had to put SD in different phone to put new ROM on it.

This is a couple days old.
However For future reference...
Aosp roms sometimes require the vanilla drivers not the ones for the I717.
Just install the android sdk (WHICH SHOULD BE A STEP DONE BEFORE EVER TOUCHING YOUR PHONE) the drivers are within.
Then when you plug in it should read it as an android debugging device. And a mass storage device.
