Odin

I like to odin back every so often just for giggles. But I took windows off my computer and installed ubuntu 10.10 its awesome by the way but now I can't find odin for linux. If all else fails I could reinstall windows but I really don't care to do that. Anyone have a link to a .deb file?

[Q][Help]Flashtool

Hello guys , Today , I decided to root my x10 , and install 2.2 ROMs. Well , as I saw the best one was flashtool. I downloaded it , extract it in a folder and then I went to open the program: X10FlashTool.exe. It won't start!!! I am trying this on Windows 7 32bit but it isn't running at all!
I tried to find solution from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1023461 but it still doesn't work.
Any help?

Save to flash with x64?

Is it save to flash with Odin, using a x64 Windows 7 version. Im asking this cause x64 is know to give some issues in the past.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
Never had an x64 issue on about fifty flashes .As long as you get the drivers installed should work .
jje
^ Yep, On x64 for almost two years, no problem at all.
Thx all, gonna try soon.
Still a bit worried.
Havn't owned any Samsung devices yet.
So not experienced with the way of flashing rooting etc.
For custom roms, You only need odin once. After that it's cwm all the way

thanks, this is were i first looked. it all seems to be for windows. will look again
So I tried and tried and tried again to get superoneclick to recognise my phone last night and failed. It hung after starting ADB connection. Would not continue no matter what I tried. Anyone encountered this problem or even tried superoneclick using Ubuntu?
I have looked for a script to run to achieve root but can't find one, as I can use ADB manually. Very frustrating.
Can't even update firmware with Sammy software cos it needs windows

A couple of users report success with z4root. Not working here.
I'll keep searching.

odin is for windows only i believe, which i dont have, dagnabbit!
i am looking at heimdall although it is not supported and nobody seems to have tried it. atleast not from my quick searching. ill continue to look.
so if i cant root 2.2.1 with linux then i should look at updating firmware to 2.3 and then i can root with standard recovery and a zip update?

How to use ODIN on Linux?

This is not really S3 related, I know, but it concerns the S3 in a way. Right, so I'm planning on moving to Linux again and leaving W7 since I never play any Windows games anyway on my laptop (I have my PS3 for that) so how will I go about flashing .tar files to my S3 when the need arises? I know ODIN doesn't work on Linux.

I can't answer the Linux question BUT you could always use Mobile Odin from the Play Store and do this directly on your phone. I've used it quite a lot when I haven't had access to a PC.
Regards
Oh yeah, I forgot all about Mobile Odin
you can't use ODIN on linux, use heimdall instead.
http://www.glassechidna.com.au/products/heimdall/
Run the Odin file through the kitchen and you get a deodexed rom with root that you can flash in CWM
Have not tested but may be use wine to run Odin on *nix .. not sure it works or not .

I think you will struggle with the drivers, I haven't looked for them but I haven't seen them for download either.

Heimdall doesn't work on GS3, so you're pretty much stuck with mobile odin (which is basically a good thing ).
Edit: Apparently it works just fine!

Pretty sure it worked on Mac OS for me, Mountain Lion I think. Isn't the mac version quite similar to the Linux version?

Coolbeans, I couldn't get it to work a couple of months back on my Arch - most probably a user error.
I'll edit my previous post to avoid confusion.
