So I'm using USB tethering and the connection would drop a lot, maybe every 10 minutes. I used to own a Samsung Vibrant and I had the same problem with USB tethering back then as well and I was wondering if anybody else has had this problem. If anybody could offer a solution that would be great. I cannot use mobile hotspot because my desktop does not have a wifi adapter and I would prefer to use USB tethering if possible.
I'm using CapRomAlpha.
I tried using PdaNet but it keeps telling me that I have to start USB Tether Mode on the phone which of course I had... (it does tell me that my phone is connected)
On another note, my USB debugging icon is not appearing at the top even though it is enabled.
Matbe its the rom... Ive never had problems with it

I'm trying to share my wifi connection on the P500 to a laptop via usb so I can access internet on the laptop through the P500.
Is this possible?It works with the data connection but I need also with wifi.

Can't u spend 20$ and get a wifi dongle ..
That's called USB tethering and it as easy as selecting the USB tethering option from settings. And it should work with wifi also. (I haven't tried it.)

I am trying to share my WIFI connection over USB to my PC with the built-in tethering function but it is not working...
Sounds weird because if I disable my wifi on my Atrix, my phone share my 3g connection to my PC with usb tethering without any issue but once I enable my wifi and connect to my AP, I am no longer able to share anything...
When my phone is connected to wifi and USB tethering enabled, the only thing I can ping is my localhost (lol) and my gateway wich is my cell phone.
Anyone has an idea why? And if possible to have a workaround without having to install anything on my PC?

Does it NEED to be usb tether? You can just download "barnacle" on your phone and make it a wifi hot spot for free.

Yes... It need to be USB. I try to share a wifi connection to my work PC that doesn't have wifi card.
Can i use the phone as wifi card and share the connection via usb to my pc?
Every time i turn usb tethering on, wifi goes off...

I'm pretty sure you can only do one at a time, either USB tether or wifi tether, at least with the built in tethering. There may be apps like PDAnet that let you do both but I doubt it.
I could do that with my sola and ideosx5,why not with this?
Ok,i installed pdanet and it works just fine,a bit slow,but fine,cant understand why motorola would leave something like that,out..

This definitely works on MIUI, I just tried it. MIUI doesn't disable wifi when USB tethering is active. I disabled my 3G data, enabled wifi + usb tethering and I had internet access on my computer - whatismyip.com showed that I was on my phone's wifi connection and not 3G.
So if you have a GSM phone, you could give it a try.

I'm encountering problems with my S3. I have aokp_i9300_nightly_2013-06-15 rom installed.
When i connect my phone to my laptop using the factory usb cable, it only charges the device.
I tried removing kies and all drivers from my computer but it didnt help.
Also i dont see any options in my notifications area when i connect it. When i go to usb connection modes (MTP, PTP) i check/tick MTP but when i go back and go to the connection modes again, it is unchecked.
I have usbdebug enabled.
Any help is greatly appreciated!!

Samsung SIII tethering to Windows 8.
I have a similar problem tethering to a new Windows 8 laptop. Will the above suggestion apply?
I have recently purchased a Windows 8 laptop and I am having issues tethering my Samsung Galaxy S3 for an internet connection. When I try to tether via Wi-Fi the laptop shows 5 bars of connection strength, however, my laptop also advises me it is a limited connection and I am unable to access the internet.
I spoke to Samsung and they suggested downloading KIES, which I did. This did not change the situation as far as tethering via Wi-Fi, however, after carrying out a USB cable troubleshooting on the KIES program I did manage to get a connection via USB, but it is short lived and disconnects.
Tethering via Bluetooth is not successful at all.
Has anyone else experienced the same problem and is there an easy fix.
I am in a remote area which has good Telstra 3G coverage and rely on my mobile as an internet connection.
Any assistance would be welcomed.

my android phone (galaxy s3 i9300) is connected to my router's wifi, just like anybody else if they have a router that supports wifi.. all other smartphones i have are connected to it.
now i have a computer but i can't run a cable to it from the router.
i just want to know if there's any way i share the wifi connection i'm connected to on my phone to the computer using USB cable
it's just like using regular tethering but instead of using the mobile's network to tether a wifi connection, i want to use the wifi connection to tether my pc?
i have a rooted device, all ready to go, is there an app or something i need to install on my pc..anything please help
