hello guys i am not an expert.
to be short , here are my questions.
my phone is rooted and miuimodel T959
android version 2.3.7
baseband T959UVKA7
kernel version is
2.6.35.12-gdf10700
build MIUI-111180
i had updated this version from my rooted and miui froyo version.
actually my vibrant was not entering into download mode so i used rom tool box.
first i downloaded the verion and then copied it to the sd card , and then ran it through ROM TOOLBOX. and wow my phone got updated to gingerbread.
now i have downloaded ICS_NBv8 build3.zip
can i run the file the same way as i did previously or do i have to take any other precuations?
please suggest and help
i dont understang the CM7 and all that stuff.
I go into recovery so I'm not sure about your method but what I can say is..... you're trying to install ics passion right? There's a version 10 out so go download that and install it. It'll most likely be better then the version you're trying to install

thanks for the quick reply , but could you please send me the link for downloading verion 10.?

Scroll down and you'll find it.

Sent from a cell tower to the XDA server to you.
Please read everything very carefully...also for passion ICS (since V.8) you need gingerbread bootloader...
please read the installation process several tomes if you are not sure ask, or don't flash at all...you might brick your phone otherwise!

So, you've been a member for almost 4 years, and you don't know how to flash through recovery, OR how to search a forum for a rom?
Take phone
Place in blender
Hit liquefy
Go get mom and dad to buy you an iPhone so you dont hurt yourself.
Is there a way to currently root your sgs2 all from your phone? (Without a PC)
For example; Rooting +CWM>install kernel+ new rom/baseband
phone for starting base kk6/2.3.6
Just wondering. I wanted to make a powerpoint about how to root android phones, but I think each phone is so specific that a general method may not be applicable?
Also that most phones need to be flashed via PC for starters? (yes/no?)
I figured generally speaking:
1: Look for your phones model number, android version and baseband,
2: download and flash correct rom (renaming the file if necesary)
3: with phone rooted install ??? (rom/kernel/new bb/cwm or whatever)
I don't know if I can do this as a "general" powerpoint for android, but I can do it specifically for SGS2; however, not everyone has an SGS2
ideas?
uh download rom manager to install cmw and just flash a rooted rom ?
all downloaded from your phone ....
I'm 99% sure that cmw needs a rooted phone to even install from rom manager but then again it actually might not ..

Please read the OP. How is rom manager working with ICS relevant to this if he's starting from KK6 GB?
Maybe mobile Odin can work but idk if you can use that without root already on the phone. I had to root mind from download mode using a pc with Odin.
Seems like a cool idea to explore.

When I use rom manager to nandroid it has always frozen upon turning off. Many other serious fails too. I only use it to rename my backups done from recovery mode. Otherwise it's just wasting space on my phone

Mobile Odin requires root.
AFAIK there's no current way to root an SGS2 without a PC. I found SuperOneClick to work just fine, doesn't require you to flash using Odin, but it does take some patience and a few tries, and a PC of course.
I could be wrong of course, please correct me if I am.
I read you can run android sdk/adb from usb stick. Just need the "final" folders installed. Any tips?
There's a method to root + install new kernel from adb cmds

I never do backups unless fresh power off then booting recovery , no rom manager ..
i just was suggesting possibly with it installed cwm can install without a pc.
the only caveat was if root access required to install it as I don't remember and can't think of any way rooting is possible without a pc EXCEPT installing a pre-rooted rom
*which is not possible on sgs2 with standard sammy recovery correct

you do realize which section you are posting in right?
rom manager does not work to install recovery on the GS2 i777 like it does on your skyrocket
Anyone find a working method yet?
I don't wanna unroot my phone to test, but if I can run adb from the phone I'll have fun with that. (you can root with adb right?)

didn't know figured same as skyrocket not being listed one could simply use the t-mobile galaxy s2 listing , so have you ever even tried to do so on a sgs2 pirateghost ..
what about mobile ODIN lite 2.3 + the add-on for i777 ?

uhhhh....
COMPLETELY different phones, COMPLETELY different hardware. NO....you cannot use rom manager for the i777 unless you are working solely with AOSP builds....in which case you would ALREADY have a CWM kernel
this has been the case on all samsung galaxy s line except the skyrocket/t989. there is no doubt that it simply DOESNT work from stock. its not speculation, its fact.
things are different over here dude. the i777 is pretty much nothing like the i727 aside from sharing a name and touchwiz....

what did I tell it all too much like it really is because he actually never did try it at all just busy feeling like boss hogs on a forum though .
lol . pathetic .
real life though < oh my.
i own an i777 , i727 , evo 3d , defy , blackberry flip , zn5 & a vivid btw .just sold my x10....
you don't tell people 'where they go' , assumptionally . I'm not any of your lames child and also that post I made had nothing in it disrespectful *not that any respect is owed , OBVIOUSLY I SEE THAT BY EXAMPLE*
mods don't show favoritism they do their job and moderate the forum who were only speaking what they hoped would help another member to have possible options . delete my whole post but due to post count or self acclaimed forum worth f offs are okay right ....
all I suggested was he might want to try to odin lite because of it's root kernel feature and simply asked pirate did he actually try it instead of just telling it how it is oh so known , but apparently not by personal experience ....
once again . pure comedy
Wow... way to derail this thread.

Hello all, I hope this is the right place to ask this, but I recently crossed over to Android devices from BB so I'm still trying to figure out my way around things. Today I flashed ICS Android version 4.0.3, kernel version 3.0.8-perf-i717uclc5-cl281649 and build number iml74k.144 onto my Note and the installation went fine, had no problems at all, but now I can't install apps from my web browser(Chrome) onto my Note like I could before the flash. USB debugging is on.
Is this something that I may have done wrong? Any help would be much appreciated.

To be honest, I really don't know, like I said I'm coming from BB and still trying to figure everything out. Here's the link that I downloaded the ROM from:
rootzwiki.com/topic/22134-sgh-i717uclc5-ice-cream-sandwich
If anyone has a link to a better ROM, I'm definitely open to try them out. I would just like to know how to fix the problem of not being able to install apps from the Play Store from my web browser.
You can't install apps using Chrome browser from your PC ?
Why not use the Market (play store) app that's already on your phone? You have to have a Gmail account set up on your phone to access the market.

I've been using the app that's on my phone but EVERYTHING on my phone got wiped and it's a bit easier to multi-task on a computer than it is a phone, so it's more about comfort ability at the moment, but this is just one issue arising, how many other, and potentially more serious issues are going to arise?

The ROM you flashed is a very outdated leak that was known to be riddled with bugs and performance issues.

So I downloaded the Seraphim First Flight, but I have no idea how to flash it onto my device, I'm assuming you can't do it through Odin?
You better stop! There are so many instructions about rom flashing. Study up!
You can ruin your phone with the click of a button. You sound close to it.
It's really not that hard...
0. Download Rom of your choice to somewhere on your external SD card.
1. Use Odin to flash the latest version of i717 ClockWorkMod Recovery (aka "CWM" )
2. Boot into CWM (use 3-finger salute method to boot into recovery).
3. Clear cache/factory reset
4. Install Rom of your choice that you had saved to your external SD card.
5. Reboot and enjoy .
But yeah, if any/all of the above confuses you, then you REALLY need to spend many hours reading before you go any further.
As for roms, I recommend dman's (as already mentioned) or ICS Perfection -- both have lots of active support...
Good luck.
+1 listen to dman he is D-MAN. you cant go wrong with anything made by THE COLLECTIVE...... any Collective rom will set you straight, just read all instructables .

Him mentioning USB debugging immediately made me think he was speaking about side loading APKs.
If you're trying to install apps downloaded from sources other than the market, for future reference, you must check the "unknown sources" box under settings>security.

Ok, So I updated my phone via Kies and got the official ICS update (Finally) for my AT&T Galaxy Note, Problem is, as expected... it unrooted my phone and I'd like it rooted again, I want to keep the new official stock ICS rom and just want it rooted again to delete all that garbage bloatware to keep my phone sharp, any help?
Do i just re-root it doing it the same way I did before?
Will it ruin my new ICS rom?
Can anyone link me to the files that will root my phone but keep the ICS Stock Rom?
I didnt have a single problem Rooting it the first time on ginerbread, but Im not sure what will happen with a different official rom installed. Just dont wanna have to reinstall ICS again or something, when I just spent about an hour setting it back to how I had everything, then remembered updating unrooted me.
Any advice or help is really appreciated!
Thanks!
Not really in right section more like a Q&A section.
However the devs need a little time to sort through all the code but these guys are smart and root will come soon and they will proudly announce it. Just enjoy for now.

Thanks everyone!
Yes.
Now look one post above your last one.
To see the links Mr. Joe is referencing you need to be on a pc.
To install CWM you need to be on a pc.
To root you need a pc.
Mr.Joe would only post trusted links.

I successfully updated my Note to ICS yesterday and want to root it again as well. I looked through the Note section in BigJoe's thread, but can't figure out exactly what files I need. I rooted it with Gingerbread without issue. I've looked through the unlocking/rooting section and the one thread that explains how to root specifically says that the method will NOT work with the official ICS update.
Sorry to sound so dense, but could someone link exactly which files I/we need to root the official ICS via Odin?
What you asked for is in the third post.

You're using Rom Manager. Just download the rom you want from the developer section and use CWR or TWRP to flash it. Rom Manager is way out of date and there isn't any interest from that developer anymore.
