[Q] Aussie McDonalds WiFi? - Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime

So I was trying to browse internet at a McD restaurant the other day and couldn't get my prime to redirect to McD splashscreen. Tried various browsers......opera, dolphin, stock, chrome and none of them would redirect. Used wifi tool and confirmed an ip address had been issued but the wifi fan would just stay grey. Dhcp settings checked, must admit I haven't tried another mcD location but just wanted to confirm whether others in Oz are able to bring up the sign in splashscreen with their primes running latest stock ICS.

Two Thoughts....If the McD's router is using the AD-HOC mode, you need the fix that's shown in the forum (or wait for update 19/20 - it's supposed to be in there)
2nd, At times, the only way I can get my Prime to work with Wifi is to reboot the router....Wifi Analyzer shows the signal there, but even shutting the Prime down, and restarting, wont work.....then I reboot the router and everything is fine.
I have no idea of what modes the Free Wifi Hotspots use

Thanks, now that you mention it I did already change the wpa_supplicant file some months ago as mentioned in this forum, I wonder if thats what is causing connex issues with mcD`s. Will try with original nxt time.

X10 wifi SCANNING - DISCONNECTED loop! HELP!

Router information: Linksys Wireless-N WRT120N
I have done everything that i could think of to get this working. i have done several google searches and they all say to do specific things.
For example:
-Reset router
-Enable B/G only or G only set at channel 11
-turn off router firewall settings
-and a bunch of other random sh*t
i have done all of the above then some and i still cant get it to connect. all i get is *scanning* then *disconnected* thats the only two things it says. except right after i reset the router. every time i reset the router i get * obtaining IP yadadada* then goes to *disconnected* then back to the "scanning, disconnected" loop.
there have been some people that have said flashing a custom firmware on the router would fix the issue with mobile connectivity on Wireless-N routers.
please someone be helpful with this and please dont tell me i need to reset my router. i have asked this same question on several forums and the only replies i get are "if you reset the router and turn off security it WILL work fine" thats bull****. im not an idiot. thats the first step any computer literate person would take before asking questions.
**Update: same as from General thread. i had to repost because it was closed for some reason there. also here are the answers to the other two guys to responded.
"not standing close enough" -i have been standing next to it. i have yet to test it more than 10 feet away lol so it cant be there
"flash another rom or reflash current rom" -it has nothing to do with my rom, kernal, or radio. this issue is also happening on my girlfriends xperia running Wolfxperia and mine is the blackeditionHDv2. its also an issue with her sisters xperia. hers is still stock 2.2(i think). their stepdad has an iphone and it wont connect with that either. from what ive gathered... its a mobile issue. i know all these phones say (b or g only) but even setting the router to broadcast in b/g it still wont connect. it notices the routers name with full strength on all devices. also i might add that their laptop is an older laptop. does not support N but still can connect to the router and have internet.
Same here. Xperia mini x10 pro. When on it says connecting even thought I nothing appear visible.

as for me it just started, before that when i was at col i was able to watsapp as usual, the phone is currently not with me but when i get i will post some ss for you to see.

Here are the ss
any idea on how i can solve this?
I'm guessing this is an ip issue. The mobile devices are not able to get one. This usually happens to me on a public network and I even get a " limited or no connectivity".
The work around I do is to assign a static ip on my phone. Its very simple to do and if you need help doing it, let me know.
There's no clear explanation I can tell you, but it seems some mobile devices have a hard time pulling ip's from different types of routers. Hope this helps.

Will ask my gf to give it a try. It happened so abruptly, it was working fine when she was at col then when she came back it won't detect any wifi, whether it's her house or mine, and now that she is back at her col she still can't connect.
I know how you feel.
I have had this issue ever since I first upgraded to Stock 2.3.3 last July. On 1.6 and 2.1 (both stock also) I never had issues.
Basically, in my case, resetting the router DOES solve the problem, but only for a limited time. This limited time is random, as sometimes it will work for a few days, and then sometimes it will cut out a few hours again after I have reset my router. I am also using the static IP method (and an app called WiFi Stat which I initially thought had solved the problem, but it hasn't) I'm not sure what triggers the WiFi connection to be lost, but there must be a trigger. Like I said, I never had this issue in my previous old Android versions.
I had hoped (somewhat naively) that moving to a custom ROM would solve the issue, but after installing Wolf's latest ROM, I still have this issue.
Have you tried anything based on 2.3.4 or above, to see if this is an Android 2.3.3 issue? Are there any good ROMs people could recommend that are based on higher versions than 2.3.3?
WEP/WPA key issue?
If its not the kernel/ROM/version of the phone, it could have something to do with the way the security is set up for your router. I had the most frustrating time logging into my university's wireless (think it was encrypted with 802.1x EAP) which required username and password. Though most home-owned router are equipped with WPA/WPA2 PSK or WEP, you can try the steps below:
1. Go to Settings ->Wi-Fi Settings -> Add Wi-Fi network
2. Type in the network SSID (yeah this is the manual part)
3. Open the "Security" drop-down box and set the following:
Security: 802.1x EAP
EAP method: PEAP (default)
Phase 2 auth.: MSCHAPV2
CA cert.: leave unchanged
User cert.: leave unchanged
4. Type in username (if any) and password.
Once again, this would work 99% for 802.1x...not sure about WPA/WEP. Good luck!
Try Channel 6 in router option and hope it works.
Solve
setting a static ip doesnt seem to work.. any idea? i wish not to re-flash as i dun think that would be a permanent solution.
again i dun think it has anything to do with my router as other gadgets are able to connect with it and i didnt fiddle with the security.
It is unable to detect any router as i have tried it different hotspots.
Hope to get some help.
------------------------------------
I wipe clear the settings and it worked again.. hope the problem doesn't persist again.

touchpad Android wireless issues sorted

Should probably go in development but as a noob I can't post their yet.
Since updating to CM7 A3.5 I started having wireless issues. Would lose IP connectivity but connection up. Other wireless devices no issues and previous CM7 versions had been okay.
Updated to Xron 2.91 on here which seemed to make things worse.
Ran a wifi signal app and noticed neighbours AP on the same channel. Reconfigured mine and have had no touchpad issues since.
As all other devices were fine I didn't think of checking the frequency. Obviously the touchpad is a bit sensitive.
Hope someone else benefits from this. Thanks to those who released the Xrom and CM7 roms. Makes the touchpad a wicked cheap tablet.
Matt.
This has been talked about before and is considered one way of fixing wifi problems. If you still can't connect you could make the touchpad forget the network from settings and reconnect again. Using an app like regpon wifi keep alive helps a lot and finally a reboot helps if everything else fails

Also: Make sure your date/time is correct and a reboot into webOS often fixes it.
Yeah the wifi issues seem to be a hit or miss. Sometimes changing the channel works for people. Other times it's just the router. I would need to always "forget" the connection before turning my TP off then reconnect after at my house. But it works perfectly at my friends house. Thanks for the post though. It might help others with this issue.
i was just going to actually post in the thread, but like you, i am a newb with insufficient rights =)
ive done 4 touchpads, 3 different routers, cm7 3.0/3.5 and xronified 2.1 and to 2.9:
-asus rt12n w/tomato 1.28 in WDS mode with WPA1 AES on channel 11:
runs flawlessly on every revision and touchpad ive done so far.
-airlink ar670w w/ddwrt sp1 with WPA2 AES on channel 11:
initially connects but when TP goes to sleep, it will not reconnect on wakeup and strobe on and off and lock up wifi settings. cm7 3.0/3.5 and xronified 2.7/8/9
-linksys wrt54g w/hyper thibor with WPA2 AES on channel 11:
same results the airlink with ddwrt
after searching and experimenting, ive gotten both the linksys and airlink to play nice by doing the following:
1) changed encryption from WPA2 to WPA1
2) changed channels to 6 or 1 (personally i just picked whatever seemed less crowded)
3) disabled wifi sleep and scanning on TP.
4) rebooted TP into webos then back into android and rebooted router.
hope one or some of these solutions helped.
Even if your other devices weren't having issues being on the same wifi channel can cause packet loss due to interference making your Internet feel slower.
I also read that people had succes using the FXR Wifi Fix app to fix some of their wifi issues. If anyone is still having issues, you might want to try that out as well.

Download the apk and install manually from computer. just connect the touchpad to the computer and copy the file over.
The fxr app does restore my wifi connection, but does not permanently fix my disconnect issues. I am trying out the regpon app now, so hopefully this will help maintain my connections!
As far as messing with routers, this is not an option for me as I use my school's wifi network when I'm working in my lab.
I have only dropped once at home and after forgetting the network and reconnecting I never had trouble again.
First post here... Just want to say that this is an amazing community. So many cool heads willing to spend time to help. It's awesome. With guidance from many of you(I have done EXTENSIVE reading around here for days), I just did my first CM install on my TP and I am in heaven.
The solution I'very found is to tap the icon next to the back icon and then the wireless icon. Don't even know what the icons called, butit has buttons to turn. on/off wifi, Bluetooth, suond and what I'm assuming is the camera.

Wifi Glitchy, but only on Android side of things

I've been playing with an TP now for about a week or so. When I got it, the WiFi worked great, on both bootups. Now if I turn off the device and restart the WiFi never works on Android unless I go through the hassle of wiping my Delvik and or playing with a code I have for SuperUser. However if I boot up in WebOS, WiFi is there and connects immediately to any WiFi in the area.
Answers?!
Thanks in advance!
Not sure if Android wifi is perhaps detailed in another topic, but i'll post my issue here too while i keep searching for a solution.
I connect easily WebOS to Nexus One using "Portable Wi-Fi Hotspot" ..but in CM9 the wifi loops "Obtaining IP Address, Saving.. Obtaining IP Address" ..repeatedly.
Has anyone succeeded yet with Android-to-Android via portable hotspot?
EDIT: Okay, after re-applying sledgehammer, rebooting everytime i turn on TP's wi-fi (+ few FCs), disconnecting and reconnecting a few more times, it's finally connecting.. occasionally.
I'm not even trying to use the portable hotspot, at this point just trying to connect to my router at home, which it had no problem with earlier.
But the TP keeps looping the same as you...
"Obtaining IP Address, Saving.. Obtaining IP Address"
At least I'm not getting the 'force close' box anymore. Lol
I had terrible connection issues on CM7 and after installing CM9 all seemed fine until my first reboot, then I couldn't connect at all.
A few days ago, I changed my linksys router wireless channel from 11 to 4 and have not lost connection a single time since, even after multiple reboots. I have seen several others say they have had similar success.
However this happens no matter where I'm at, or who's router I'm using. ( I currently have an ActionTec, via Verizon), and I use the TP at school, so no idea what they have set up as wireless.
Had some issues with the portable hotspot from my iPhone but after making the TP forget the connection, toggling the wifi on both devices I can pick it up again. Not too bad. No issues with my home router.
I had to do the same, I 'Forgot' the network, then I toggled the Wifi on and then off. For whatever reason it has no issues staying connected to my home network now.
However at work I have to do that forget n' toggle everytime I reboot it.
Did you do a clean install or on top of CM7? When I loaded on top, I had many problems.
After an uninstall and fresh load of CM9, I do not have any problems like I use to experience in CM7. I would remove WiFi profiles and re-connect when going from Home to Office networks. I have none of that now in CM9, knock on wood.
I had issues frequently with CM7 and wifi, as was common. I haven't had any issues with CM9 or preludedrews latest build. I follow the "kill a fly with a sledgehammer" approach. I wipe data/factory reset, then wipe cache, advanced>wipe dalvik, mounts>format system, cache, data. Then installed. It takes an extra second to do all the wipes, but with experimental builds like this I always do it.
Now the only android issue I can't fix is ironically the xda app. In CM7, xron, CM9, or preludedrew's build whenever I try to do anything it FCs. That is my only complaint right now.

I was not having the wifi troubles that two other touchpad owners I know were having. I installed Android on both of their devices, but couldn't figure out what to do to fix it and it was making me insane. Finally, we reset all our routers to a channel below 5 and found that they all connected to wifi well, HOWEVER, I found a better solution. I don't know if anyone has noticed this, but this must be a setting I fiddled with on my TP, that the other two TP owners had not fiddled with.
Go into Wifi Settings, then click the Menu button at the bottom left (the three bars)... click Advanced then click Regulatory Domain. In my touchpad, I had clicked on the 11 Channel option. On the two touchpads that could not regularly connect to wifi, neither had a selection made whatsoever under "Regulatory Domain." After clicking "11 Channels," all three touchpads can connect to wifi with no issues AT ALL, no matter the channel.
I almost can't believe this hasn't been posted in other forums yet, because it seems to be the key and much easier than setting every router you want to connect to, to a different channel.
Please let me know if this works.
Thanks for the tip. My touchpad had nothing selected either in that menu. Hopefully this will solve my wifi woes!

nice find thanks I'll give it a try
i cant even find the wifi settings/menu. i go into the wifi and can view the networks available, look at known connections, and when i look at preferences i'm only given one option to toggle which is whether the wifi turns on or off while sleeping.
so where do i look to find the above mentioned wifi settings which leads to the menu button that i cannot find? thanks.

I don't thank it is for CM9.
It's on top corner. You can access menus there. However, on CM9 build I do not have the regulatory options to change the channels as you explained. It's an advanced tab that gives me access to sleep policy, etc. Are you on CM7?
Yep, it's only CM7.

Sorry, I should have specified that I'm on CM7. It works so wonderfully for me that I won't be doing CM9 until many more of the bugs are worked out.
I'm running Miui with CM7 base. I do not see where these 'menu' options are. *head scratching*.. Is it under the 'advanced' tab?
Found it, but it to is selected with 11 channels already.
# rm -rf /data/misc/wifi && reboot
this also works, but it's a pain to have to copy and paste it and run it through the terminal daily. just hoping for a solid fix. cm9 seems to be the way to go, but once they have a few more of the bugs worked out.

[Q] Wifi Networks Redirect Issue

I've only had the phone a few hours but I'm at a university that requires DHCP registrations, and my LTEvo will not redirect to the registration page. I've tried this through both the stock browser and Chrome, tried redirects, manually typing in the URL, and even connecting to it through 3G, logging in and then trying to register. Is anyone having similar issues at other universities/coffee shops that require a registration or redirect? I verified that I have a valid, unregistered IP on the network.
Issue resolved after installing viperROM. If anyone can address the issue on the stock ROM, this post could be helpful!
I'm currently having this problem at work (hospital). Its been working fine since I got the phone, but today it wont redirect.
My co-workers GNex and BB works though
I figured it out. When 'Best Wi-fi Performance' is checked, I'm actually unable to pull any connection from the university. Disabling it restores connectivity. I'll look into it with the wireless team here.
Same issue with me test at Arby's and McDonalds free Wifi Hotspots.
No Redirect, no web.
Best Performance *IS NOT* checked on mine as it has cause issues for me else where.

Lost wifi after Oreo 8.0 update

Tab S3 worked well on 7.x. Lost wifi completely address 8.0 update. Tried all the recommended forget connection, reset network, full wipe after ota . When all that failed I flashed the full 8.0 with Odin. Still had no wifi. Repeated all those reset steps again with no joy.
Strange part is the same situation occurred with my LG V30. Worked well on 7.x, no more wifi after ota to 8.0. Repeated the resets and full flash series again but still won't connect.
My Razer Phone and One Plus 6 phones connected to the same wifi out of the box (with 8.0?), ota'd to 8.1 and have been solid since.
Am I stuck waiting for Tab 3 / V30 flashable (stock) files to 8.1?
You can download some network tools from the play store. See if they help you pinpoint what is going on. You don't happen to have MAC address filtering turned on the router? Though doubt your MAC address would change but I did read an article where Apple changed the MAC Address in their iPhones after it was discovered the government tracked people by MAC address. So it is possible it changed. See if you can hit a public WiFi (library, coffee shop, etc) and get it to connect there? Or a neighbor's network?

@aspexil
Just set the hotspot on one of the working devices and see if you can connect to it.
Is the wifi actually enabled?
I had the same problem happened to my Tab S3 a few days ago after I upgraded to Oreo (8.0) I could connect to WIFI but it says I have no internet connection. I have tried different routers and at different places and still the same problem. Strangely, I can connect to internet from time to time (intermittently) despite my Tab S3 giving an exclamation mark on the WIFI signal and warned me I have no internet access. I have tried resetting network, factory reset no less than 5 times, and also tried connecting at different places. I have read somewhere that by changing the time on the unit fixed the problem for quite some people, but didn't work for me. I did not root my tablet, so now I'm stuck looking for solutions.
update 2018.12.05: there was a new patch out (Oct. 2018), so I updated my S3 and now it still doesn't see internet even after connecting to WIFI. I tried resetting and now I can't even pass the Agree to Terms & Conditions part as it still says I have no internet. Before the patch update I could at least access internet even though tab S3 thinks I am not connected to internet. Guess I have to try to root it or throw away the tablet.

No have not rooted. All stock now. If all else fails, I guess I will have to try to root and flash ROM and see if my WIFI can come alive again.
