So this is the case, I had a rooted sgs2 running on MIUI 2.3.16 and brightly decided to flash the kernel into siyah.
Obviously that didnt work out too well, and I ended up in a situation where the phone stucks at startup showing the sgs2 logo, and wont budge from there.
I have no clue what was the kernels "version". Is there anything that can be done?
Allready tried to search the forums, but didnt find a similar situation.
Boot into recovery & do a factory reset. If that doesn't work, reflash Miui which will reinstate the Miui kernel.
If you can't get into recovery, reflash stock firmware in Odin, CFRoot the phone, then reflash Miui.
I'm assuming you should still be able to enter cwm/recovery... just go in to that and re-flash miui

You should find out what kernel it MIUI used, else you can end up
try very many different hehe.
But no panic, I guess you have Odin on youre pc?
Just start phones downloadmode by volume down-home, poweron.
Connect to usb cable, fire up Odin, and flash kernel (PDA in Odin)
Good luck man
Cant get to recovery, Only thing that i can do is to use Odin, how do i get back to stock kernel, or, even better, anyone know the MIUI kernel?
Flash stock in Odin as I said, then CFRoot it. If you've got a Nandroid (CWM) backup, you should then be able to restore that rather than flash Miui. If not, flash Miui in CWM. Stock roms/instructions for flashing same can be found here, if links don't work search for stock firmware on Samfirmware.com.
What Siyah kernelndid you flash? I flashed beta6 over the latest MIUI and it just went to a black screen.
Just hold down the power button with vol up + home. It'll eventually boot to recovery where you can flash MIUI again.

odin -> bootloader flash -> wait for logo battery out -> odin flash stock -> odin cf root -> recovery flash ur miui and kernel again
Issue solved!
Thankyou for you all for your quick replies and help!
Good How did you fix it ?
managed to get to cwm recovery after flashing one of the cf-root kernels, and from there on, just flashed miui all over again...
Ahhh OK. Cool. Glad you got it sorted

Hi all
Tonight I decided to buy that little usb jig and flash the lite'ning rom v5 for first time.
Okay things started alright..
Downloaded lite'ning rom v5 followed the guide, and flashed it via Odin v1.85.
Phone booted as it should, I noticed that all my apps and messages was still there, oh well (I come from custom x10i roms) I decided to go into recovery and did wipe data/ reset. Thought it would wipe the stuff there.
Then it startet to bootloop when I rebooted it.. Hmm funny, I tried to flash lite'ning v5 again but still bootloop. Then I found a guide how to get back on stock software with odin, I downloaded from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1113928
The danish vesion + stock kernel flashed both.
Still bootlooped.
Hm The guide mentioned that I could try the villainrom v1.1 I did that and I got into the phone atlast!.
Ok then I tried to flash the stock software again from there boot loop again.. And now im back on villainrom :s seems like every thing I flash exept the villainrom I get bootloops. Even stock software? wtf ?
Could anyone please explain to me how I get the lite'ning rom v5 installed correctly without getting into bootloop.
And I found another guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1108499&highlight=loop
I followed it 100% thats where I got the villainrom from btw.. Seems like its the only way I'm able to use my phone right now :s ?
So please anyone could you give me a hint on what I should do to fix this mess i've made..
Thanks,

How come when I connect it to KIES im not allowed to do a reinstall from there?
I remember PC companion / sony ericsson software update just plug it in and you'd be back on stock software unrooted, isnt this possible on the samsung?

You have to clear the flash counter with a jig to be able to update using kies again. I did anyway. I had a similar bootloop problem myself. I fixed it by flashing to a stock firmware with odin, making sure to flash something for phone, pda and csc. I figured that maybe something from lightning ROM was left over and causing incompatibilities. This may not be the reason but the solution worked for me.
For lite'ning rom you cannot do wipe userdata (reset) using Clockwork Recovery. It wipes out something that is required to boot the rom. There is something missing from lite'ning rom that cannot use an empty userdata partition.
To be able to exit boot loop, you will have to go to download mode, flash a stock kernel, boot into samsung recovery, then do a factory reset.
It should boot right in. Then go back to download mode, then flash the latest speedmod kernel. Since there is already data in the userdata partition, it will not boot loop unless you use clockwork recovery to wipe userdata (factory reset).
If that doesn't work, then you will have to goto download mode, reflash a stock rom, goto samsung recovery, do a factory reset, boot into the rom, which will then put stuff back into the userdata partition, then go back to download mode, and reflash lite'ning rom.
It is weird, but all stock rom, and stock rom derivatives will get the boot loop issue when you use clockwork recovery to wipe userdata partition. So far, the only rom that does not have this issue with clockwork recovery wipe userdata function is CM7 and Devnull.
The problem in my view is not the rom's problem, but more of the kernel problem. It is missing a script to rebuild empty userdata.
Do this to get rid of a boot loop.
1) Flash a stock ROM via ODIN
2) Go into stock recovery, do factory reset
3) Re-flash stock ROM via ODIN.

Follow 3 simple steps to get Lite'ning Rom 5 working as its supposed to:
1 - Download and Flash Lite'ning Rom 5 via odin as normal.
2 - Download and Flash the Ninphetamine-2.0.5 Kernel from the link bellow:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1179814
If you download the TAR file, you need to flash it via ODIN, or if you download the ZIP file, you need to flash it via RECOVERY.
3 - Go into recovery and do a full wipe and restart the phone.
Start enjoying Lite'ning Rom 5 without any bootloops what so ever.
Its a real pitty Lite'ning Rom Dev didnt even bother mentioning this on his main page, knowing that this bootloop issue comes with his rom.
kwazyivan - Thanks
I just did what you said. Seems to run smooth
I wonder if its possible to remove the social hub and gamehub and that samsung stuff? I never use it anyways.
Also I have another question, I come from the x10i custom roms. How come the FPS cap isnt removed in the custom kernels? Not that it matters Phone is fast as hell anyways, just wondering
I hope this explains it

The hubs in the system, doesnt cause any slowdowns or extra ram usage from my experience but if you want to remove them you can always download Titanium Backup from the Market, once you start the TB app go to Backup/Restore, from the list of installed apps, tap on any program and choose the Uninstall option that you wish to remove permanently.
The screen has a refresh rate of 60, so even if the cap is removed it would be completely pointless as the framerate would still be 60 for any graphics app such as games and benchmarks, again in my opinion 60fps is all we need to see smooth rendering graphics, anything more than that is just to satisfy our own greed and hunger for power.
Thanks alot man, explains my questions !

Sure mate, No problem
Hey guys,
So i have my S2 for like 6 months now and never had any issue with flashing custom roms/kernels till yesterday. i installed XXKI4 and everything went perfect.
Few hours later i decided to flash CM7( wiped system, data, cache dalvik etc and flashed the zip 2x) so after this i rebooted my phone and it gave a bootloop. I was not able to boot in recovery mode so i had to reflash with odin to a stock rom. Well i did that and i was on stock rom again. i decided to flash the latest speedmod kernel, i flashed it and bam phone not booting, shows the Samsung Galaxy S II GT-i9100 text with the yellow triangle and its stuck at this screen for an hour now. i just cant use ANY custom kernel/rom on my phone because they all give bootloops and i want CM7 so bad. Any idea's and suggestions will be truly welcome.
Stock Samsung Roms are working great, but dont want that ;p
thx!

Have you done 2x flash in a row of CM7? its a know bug (but unknown reasons) it just dosnt start until you flash it 2x in a row.
Suggested method:
1. Enter ClockWorkMod recovery
2. Wipe data/cache factory reset
3. Wipe cache
4. From mount and storage menu, use Format System
5. From advanced menu, use the Wipe dalvik cache
6. Flash CM7 latest nightly
7. Reflash CM7 latest nightly
8. Reboot the phone
Not sure if this can help you, since you experience a problem that is not exactly the one i saw some times on forum (you cant even enter recovery mode after the flash) but this is how usually ppl makes CM7 work
Oh on a side note, i suggest to not use rom manager, it's confirmed (at least, from various posts here on xda) to not be really 100% working on our SGS2 and can cause problems.
If all this isnt working, it may be worth downgrade to KI3 or KH3 stock one, root again and then do the above system.
I can assure you 100% this system works over KI3 and KH3
yep you need to flash 2 x CM7.
First time it will flash very fast.
Go back to the stock rom and then install CM7 again
can you boot in CWM or are you getting some errors ?

nah, this won't do it, believe me! coz i have exactly same issue with mine. I've done this countless number of times and nothing works... i just came to accept the fact that my phone doesn't support custom anything whether kernel or ROMs, until someone finds out the solution.
meanwhile you can try siyah kernel 1.7.8 or so, it worked with mine, see if it works with yours.
cheers!

i know this problem, my phone was stuck at boot too but i flashed back to stock rom and i fixed my phone. my problem was i can't use cwm its was dead.
i already tried to flash cm7 like 10 times and it doesnt work i can only boot stock roms with the speedmod kernel other kernels give bootloop.
Ugh this is pretty frustrating, will try to downgrade to xxki3.
Btw, after i flashed Cm7 twice my phone bootloops, then when i flash a CWM kernel to boot in recovery mode i get Can't mount /cache/blabla. really weird, i have never seen this on a phone ! =)
Yay its working!! downgraded to XWKI4 and flashed the cwm kernel! now im running CM7! thx peeps! =)
For the other people that had problems, you have to flash the codeworkx kernel because cf root kernel has a modified CWM that is not compatible withCM7
i have almost the same problem, but me i can flash any rom,but the problem is with the kernel my phone refuses to boot on any other kernel else than cf-root and the speedmod,it freezes in the kernel loading so i must turn it off and reflash via odin cf-root or speedmod to get it works again.

Yes, its all the same problem, flashing a rom with a diff kernel won't boot up, will just be stuck on boot logo...
---------- Post added at 12:24 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:24 PM ----------
Phew! NOW I HAVE CM7 RUNNING ON MY PHONE!!
I'm gonna try to explain how i fixed my issue, as clear and explanatory as i can..
lucky i didn't brick my phone during all this, because I tried so many things and none worked.I unsuccessfully tried downgrading to XWkI4, ZCKI4, and alot others via Odin... after flashing all i get is tons of error messages(on 3e recorvery) E: can't open/cache or E:failed blah bla bla to load /efs... i thought OMG! my phone is bricked! then i recalled reading somewhere that flashing the 3 tar (PDA,MODEM,CSC) files usually should work(maybe better than flashing a 1 tar file), so i found a 3 files xxKI3 rom, flashed it and BAM! it booted up this time without any error. so now i went ahead and rooted it since the tar files came unrooted, then went into CWM to flash cm7 ROM, flashed it twice and ofc i got stuck on boot logo.....i didn't panic much, i pulled out the battery, and restarted to CWM where i cleared cache/ dalvik/ and did wipe/factory reset, then i reflashed CM7 again (twice) and it worked!!!! YES, CM7 is fiannly working on my SG2!
thanks for everyone for helping, and i hope this can help others in same boat as me..

Try what i said and see if it works.
try the siyah 2.1.1 kernel,it solved my problem
hi guys, first post
ive had my rooted galaxy s2 with the latest siyah kernel 3.3.2, i had cwm recover 5 and rom manager
i tried to flash cyanogen mod through rom manager, following the steps it gave me, i downloaded the files through rom manager and went through all the prompts till i clicked agee to go into recovery mode.
once it did that the phone shut off but would not turn on again so i went to turn on manually, it loads the samsung galaxy screen with the yellow triangle but goes straight into a white flashing screen.
Ive tried taking the battery out, leaving it and putting it back in again, still a flashing screen,
check what i9100 you have and download correct cm9.

Try flashing a kernel first, and if that doesn't work, flash a rom in Odin, re-root your phone & restore your backup. But yeah, don't use Rom Manager with a kernel that has CWRecovery. One or the other. Rom Manager has a habit of doing stuff like what's happened to you on SGS2's which also have CWRecovery installed.

awesome, I tried flashing the latest siyah kernel, the one that i already had on my phone before the problems, that didn't do anything to get me through, any suggestions on which kernel/rom to flash?
because you are on siyah and im not comfortable with that, please flash a stock kernel or cfroot kernel and format system data partitions after that.
now flash any official stock ICS or GB rom using Odin.

ohh sweet baby jesus im i flashed a cf kernel and now im into cwm on 4.0.1.5, can i just normal reboot my phone now?
No need to format anything. Given you want to use CM9, I'd recommend you flash CM9 Resurrection Edition in Odin, put the latest CM9 nightly & Gapps on your internal/external SD card then flash that nightly & Gapps in CWM (read the first page of the CM9 discussion thread thoroughly & follow the instructions to the letter. From there you can stick with the CM9 stock kernel or flash whatever other kernel you want to use (provided it's CM9 compatible).
From then on, if you want to flash CM9 nightlies, do it via CWM/CWRecovery, just don't use Rom Manager this time I use CM9 as well & I have it frozen because I use Siyah (which has CWM).

alrighty! thanks for the info, is cf kernel compatible with cm9? i want to just have one kernel that'll handle most roms, any suggestions?
ive reloaded my old stable phone version, the version i saved before trying to flash cyanogen mod with rom manager, this version has siyah and stock rom, back to square one *phew*
i still say wipe first, cm9 will come with its own latest cwm that can be used to flash any custom roms after.
flashing via odin version is easy and fool proof as it has everything bundled for correct working of cm9.
If you flash CM9 the CM9 kernel will overwrite/replace your CFRoot kernel, which is fine. As I said in my previous post you can stick with that if you're happy with it, or you can flash any other kernel that's CM9 compatible.
No suggestions/recommendations. Because your experience will not be the same as someone else's using a given rom or kernel. If you want to go down that path, try some kernels to find one you like. To see if a kernel is compatible with CM9, read the the dev thread devoted to the kernel in question.
OK. Given you're back @ square one, Atifsh is right when he says flashing the Resurrection version (Odin version) then flashing Gapps/nightly from there is probably a good way to go for you. Once you've done that, you'll be able to flash CM9 nightlies via CWRecovery. As said previously, read that first page of the CM9 discussion thread/instructions thoroughly before you do anything.

Something similar happened to me too. I flashed stock XWLPG, then siyah 3.3.2 and did a factory reset. After that, got stuck in a flashing white screen after the yellow triangle.
What I did: boot on download mode, flash XWLPG over PC Odin once more, did a full wipe BEFORE flashing siyah and then siyah. Everything went ok this time, but eventually I found out that every time I do a factory reset after siyah that problem would occur.

[Solved]
I am unable to flash any roms through cwm, and can only do it through odin. Flashing through cwm results in the phone not loading past the boot logo.
I formatted sd card in cwm, thinking it would only restore to factory settings, not knowing it would completely wipe everything.
From then i was unable to even see the boot logo or recovery mode, but luckily download mode still worked.
So i flashed the stock rom through odin, but it still plays up. Now the battery doesn't last more than 1 day, and constantly freezes.
Now whenever i install anything in cwm, as soon as i reboot, it goes to the bootscreen and freezes. I have tried at least 5 different roms and the same story each time, So each time i have to reflash stock rom with odin.
So any ideas to why this is? any help is appreciated. I have tried ultimate kernel wipe cleaner , or whatever it is called as well.
[Solved]
I just reflashed stock ICS in odin, and ticked the 're-partition' box. the repartition file is called " u1_02_20110310_emmc_EXT4.pit ". Now it works good as new and I'm currently running PACman rom on 4.3. gg guys.
Just to check, but you have factory reset after flashing the new ROM from CWM right?
Try these steps :
1. Flash ROMNuke script by hawkerpaul. (it's a ROM nuke, not just a kernel nuke)
2. Flash ROM in CWM.
3. Boot.
I know it sounds simple, but that's got me out of a few odd bootloop /failed flash situations. Give it a go.
Then, if that doesn't work, re-download the ROM which you're attempting to flash & try again.
One more thing, what kernel are you trying to flash the ROM from in CWM? Try a different one, say siyah. I've sometimes seen where a particular kernel won't flash but another will for no apparent reason.

it was stock ics cwm i think?, also another thing when I install a new rom, when it shows the progress bar, it goes up to 3 quarters then it skips the rest and says update completed (I just tried Romnuke and same story). I have also tried siyah kernel and it just freezes at the siyah kernel instead. Im currently stuck on stock ICS 4.0.2
Not sure what you mean by 'stock ICS CWM'?
And just to make sure, you definitely have an i9100 right? Not a variant, i9100g etc? Just asking as 4.0.2 was never released for i9100, only 4.0.3 and 4.0.4 (stay away from that one)
So now, re-download the ROM which you're attempting to flash, and try again after the ROMNuke script. Does the script run successfully? Or does it have errors /messages which indicate it didn't run successfully?

Ok, so have you tried the things I said?

5 months later I found the answer when messing with odin. What you do is tick the 're-partition' box, and then in the 'pit' sections you need the partition file i guess, for the i9100 its called u1_02_20110310_emmc_EXT4.pit . hope this helps anyone else who may have this problem
Hey guys. I seem to be having trouble getting my Samsung Galaxy 4.2 out of it's recovery mode. I'll start with how I got here. So one day I was on my galaxy when the power ran out. I tried restarting it and found myself in a boot loop. So to fix it I tried flashing a kernel. All was well until I found out my wifi wasn't working. So I read up on some forums an people said the best fix was to just re-flash a kernel. So I did it again and it worked for a time. Then once again it said I was connected to the wifi, yet I couldn't actually get on anything wifi related. So again, to fix it I flashed a kernel. Now I'm really stuck. The kernel I flashed gave me a SG2 logo at boot, as well as a yellow triangle. Now whenever I try starting my SGP 4.2, it goes right into the recovery mode. I've also flashed a custom recovery mode to clear the Dalvik and normal cache, but it still does nothing. I've also tried re-flashing ROMS and kernels, but it still just leads me to this darn recovery mode.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
Try to go stock rom and kernel with Odin. Then try to reflash the CWM. Wifi fix files and instructions are here:

There's another way to fix wifi problem. But I don't remember the folder path . I'll look for it.

This was the same kernel that got me my CMW in the first place. . . I've tried both stock and custom ROMS, and they flash successfully, but it just takes me right back to my recovery menu after I reboot.

I am having the same issue. I verified my device beforehand and all the files. No matter what recovery I flash (stock or cwm) it will still boot into recovery. I've also tried flashing the stock rom, stock root rom and a custom rom as well as clearing the data and cache multiple times with no luck. Has anyone figured out a way around this?
