ICS wifi freezing issue - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hey after turning on my wifi it doesn't connects and if my screen turns of like a minute the phone freezes and it's unresponsive, I have to press the power button until the phone reboots, any solutions so far?
ICS - LP7 ROM - LP7 MODEM
Maybe market enabler or market access are causing this? I read that there's some country ID problem for wifi and maybe changing the numeric sim is messing things up?? just a thought

are you from GB? if yes, do a nandroid backup and wipe data then report back.

Nope I'm on ICS, no such thing in GB ROMs

what i mean is, did you wipe your data upon moving to ICS?

on LPQ yes, here I used LP7 and CF's ROM since day 1, but what I can tell is that everything was fine like 5 days in a row, it started to misbehave yesterday

W/CommandListener( 1829): Failed to retrieve HW addr for wlan0 (No such device)
i think it cannot find the wlan adapter or mac address is missing.

ok, but if I restart my phone the wifi connects immediately, and I'm not doing anything in my wlan
???

same thing happened to me.
sometimes playing with wifi direct unfreezes the switch of wifi. but highly likely reboot is needed.

Hey flash05, can you give more details about how you flashed ICS ROM version, modem version Etc. Maybe we can find some similarities to solve the issue
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA

all via kies.
2.3.3 > 2.3.6 > dxlp7
problem never occured in GB except random restarts with SD card. now random reboots gone but this wifi switch killing me.
on stock and not yet rooted. if this gets fixed that's it... happy.
so far i am still ok with stock firmware. perhaps a year later when custom roms become more mature. i did the same when I was using my desire Z.

ok, so I'm using stock LP7 ROM with CF 5.4 kernel, at least we know that's not a root - kernel issue lol
HELP!

I have same issue here, I flashed stock ICS 4.0.3 XXLPQ ROM using odin.
Sometimes wifi switch hangs, never switches on/off until restart.

is it a kernel issue?

Try different kernal, i recommend siyah v3.0b6

Flashing to stock HTC ROM is not the same as Wipe. You wipe it in recovery

Yes, I think. I did recovery wipe and flashed VR1.5
Maybe something just went wrong with the install?
... try a full wipe and fresh flash, should fix it

1. If you mean that when you turn off WiFi you have no 3G for a minute or two - that is completely normal for android as it disables 3G whilst WiFi is enabled. It takes a little while to connect sometimes. If you mean the signal levels to your service provider - that's completely different and a very odd issue to say the least.
2. Slow with FC's usually means something in the wipe didn't work properly or some apps are conflicting. Try a fresh install (without backups if possible) and see if they carry on happening. Then try restoring the backups (after say a week or so) and see if it comes back.
Alot of this is trial and error. We have no idea how your phone is set up and which apps you have installed etc.
I will say that it is not usual to see either of these issues and a wipe and reflash has the best likelyhood of fixing the problems.

Xperia X10 keeps restarting

My xperia x10i which is runnning on the android 2.3.3. Keeps on restarting continously for around 10 times then it can fully function. I've even tried flashing it many times but the same issue still happens, so I believe it's very likely to be a hardware problem. Also If I use the mobile internet it restarts automatically, but If I use internet through wifi then the phone fully works and doesnt restart. I'm wondering what the problem is on this phone?

Yes I have even reflashed it but it still restarts
Man I have the EXACTLY same problem.
It´s really annoying issue, I have the same opinion as you, maybe it´s hardware problem. I guess this is related to heating.
Is your country in a hot season? hehe
so are you running on stock se firmware? maybe it has some kind of bug, try flashing another kernel, check in the development section to see how...
Just to further clarify, did you format /data and /cache before installing the 2.3.3 ROM ? Because this is a reported issue when migrating from one android version to another without clearing the data.

Useless post. Try to be nice to a coleague that is having a problem.
Another info I forget to mention, I´m not using any overclock, this problem happens either with custom or stock kernels. So I guess this is not kernel related.
a new kernel or updating android OS will clean ur phone
I think it mainly has to do with the improper discharge of the battery. Try changing the battery. Many people say it solved their problems.

Same problem here. Sometimes just out of the blue but mostly when downloading via 3G. I never had a spontaneous reboot while using WiFi.
This started after installing stock firmware 2.3.3
Have tried a couple of things now:
- Reinstall stock firmware 2.3.3
- Unlock bootloader and load custom firmware (DooMKernel v6). Tried the full OC version, medium OC version and currently run the fail safe version
- Install custom rom (FeraLab) which is Android 2.3.7
Damn thing still keeps rebooting. And I still have a year left on my current plan...

Oh ryt, I noticed this issue when I flashed it on android 2.3 and would keep on restarting like 15 times. So I downgraded the firmware to 2.1 and it just restarts on if mobile internet is used. I have sent my phone to a recycle company, they will pay £91. Hopefully if they don't find this minor fault. Anyway I'm getting the samsung galaxy S - I9000 as a replacement. Samsung phones never restart lol.
Come on guys, anyone please?
This is a very annoying problem. I did a research on google and it seems to be a known hardware bug.

[Q] Trouble with WIFI

Since a picture, and in this case a video, paints a thousand words -> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qCkKkkukujI
Here I present to you my dilemma.
Before you ask, the phone is rooted, running cm7.1 nightly.
At the time of recording my modem is KI3.
I have tried about 4 modems, in the K family and no luck yet.
I cant put my finger on exactly the time this happened, but somewhere in the past 3-4 days and nothing significant happened to spawn it. (ie I wasn't changing roms or anything of that sort.)
Every modem I put on does the exact same as the video.
However generally the first boot after a flash, the wifi tends to connect, next boot = no go.
I have also used 'gs2blitzer v1.6' which is a script to clean out old kernel files and temporary bits n pieces between flashes.
So any helpful suggestions you have will be appreciated.
Do a backup with ClockWorkMod and then flash another kernel. (siyah, for example).
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA
I just flashed siyah as you suggested, no luck.
Still does exactly that in the video I posted earlier.

did you have the problem before you flashed the new rom?
im using wanamlite ics 9.1 rom using the XXLPH kernel and my wifi works fine. XXLPH is still beta i think btw
Yes it has been wiped numerous times.
Wiping individual partitions from cwm, wiping dalvik, using the cleaning script to clear old kernel stuff..
And yes it worked prior - if you read my first post, nothing happened for it to stop working. There was no flash involved to stop it working.
Oh and its an international I9100.
Some extra info on the subject.
Disconnecting and deleting the AP, restart phone, it will then connect.
If i disable wifi then re-enable it, it wont connect.
Stuck in the loop of Scanning, connecting, disconnecting, over and over...

WIFI Issues After Flashing ICS

Hi Guys
Yesterday I flashed the Hydro ICS and had no issues at all, hungry to explore other ROM's I flashed about 5 today, then all of a sudden I was faced with 2 issues that no matter what I cant solve
The first is that my WIFI Doesnt work, it says its connected and issues an IP to the phone but the Wifi bars are grey with a flashing X through them
In my router I get the following Error
" DHCP FAILED - Requested Info not supported.;CM-MAC=a0:21:b7:30:03:2c;CMTS-MAC=00:30:b8:cf:db:40;CM-QOS=1.1;CM-VER=3.0; "
I also have a yellow warning triangle on boot too
I have reflashed, wiped, etc etc with many roms since to try and fix but I have gotten nowhere,
EDIT:
Just to add, other mobiles "Including a SGS2 on ICS" are connected wirelessly and I have rebooted and reset my router.
PLEASE can someone get me out of this hole im in ?
Many Thanks
Gaz

Bumping your thread after only just over an hour isn't going to endear yourself to anyone...
Try a different kernel. I believe WiFi drivers are in the kernel.
I believe your best bet is to do a battery pull, leave it out for a minute, then put it back in and power up.
If that doesn't work, you may need to install another baseband/modem. Lots of them you can install through CWM.

I know you mean well, but baseband/modem have nothing to do with wifi.

[Q] SGS 2 WiFi Just can't Turn On

Hey guys,
My SGS2 is currently facing what I call a Wifi bricked. After flashing several ROMS, I have discovered that my Wifi just cant turn on anymore. The Wifi toggle button just seems to be grey out. When tried to turn on, it says "Turning on Wifi" and it goes blank. Wifi did not manage to turn on
I have also tried flashing several roms and kernel in hope of fixing it. I have also flashed to stock sgs2 roms from sammobile but still failed. My last ROM using was the NeatRom. Its a good ROM but just dont know what is causing my phone to face such problem. I have tried flashing the previous roms and kernels that have WiFi worked but still failed to resolve the WiFi issue
I am currently running on Super Nexus 2.0 build 1.
Please help.
Very much appreciated. Sorry if i did not provide enough information.

The best is flash the rom again

I assume you are wiping all data while changing ROMs, right?
Is the phone on warranty? Since it's not ROM or kernel or modem specific, it must be a hardware fault.
Try the kernel cleaning script right before flashing a ROM, just in case.
Yea. I do a data wipe whenever i flash a new rom. And also I no longer has warranty for my phone. I'm guessing it may be hardware faulty too but just not too sure about that.

Try flashing a different radio (modem). It could be that at some point a new modem was flashed (like when using leak) and it has corrupted in some way.
There is a modems thread on here somewhere, use search.
