This is just way to awesome to not mention. I want one... heck, i want two. Everyone needs to help fund this project so I can get two of these.

I'm curious about the responsiveness of it, I'm sure it's a bit laggy, but I still want the chance to play with it.
Cool idea... but $Dang...
So if you give $59 you can get one. Is this a legit thing tho? I've never heard of this site. Seems legit tho.
Now they need to upgrade their idea to drive real cars. There have been several occasions where I'd have loved to been able to drive my own car... from the back seat or the roof.
awesome also wonder if legit seems pretty damn cool lol

Be your own chauffeur, perfect.
Think about how much fun you could have with this setup. I will tear one apart and use the system to control whatever I want. I'd pay $60 just for that. I'd really like to adapt it to my R/C Rock Crawler. With a little work, I'm sure you could make it do just about anything. Then tear the .apk apart and rebuild it the way you want... The possibilities are endless.
I would be very interested, but just seems strange that the power plant is based on 3 AA batteries.... I never really enjoyed RC cars until the use of battery packs... the car did look pretty quick in the video... I don't know...
cool concept but imo its not worth it...... 30 ft range seriously??
Ahahahahahhaha! Make your own for like $200 with an arduino and an RC car.

agreed, 3AA batteries is going to get 3 hours out of a "fast" RC car? something there doesn't add up.

yeah, RC car with 30 foot range? I'll take a separate remote, thanks. 30 feet is not that far. just try walking away from your phone with a blue tooth headset, it starts getting fuzzy before thirty feet too. that's a fail.
Designing a car mount to work with my Seidio case that will still allow docking features. The mount will be mated to a ProClip mount for ideal location. It will be molded out of Kydex and will have a micro-fleece like lining in it. The electronics will be torn from a Samsung OEM desktop dock from my Vibrant (close relitive of the captivate). This is a very rough idea based on a design in my head. Any input would be appriciated.
Update: I pulled the circuit board from the OEM dock. I'm torn between using it or not. The dock offer audio pass through but at the cost of fast charge capabilities. Not sure if i want to sacrifice this. Day to day the audio pass through will be very handy, but when I need GPS on long trips, I will have to rely on an occasional battery swap. Thoughts?

On the charge front, can you modify the pins internally to allow for fast charge?

Yes I'm sure I could, but I imagine this would interfere with the audio pass through as you would be shorting the data pins to accomplish this, then how would the data pass.

I see. So the dock uses the USB connector to take the audio from the phone, to the 3.5mm jack attached to the dock. Then from the dock fo your head unit?

Precisely, I use slacker every morning for my morning commute plugged into the AUX via patch cable so this has major everyday advantage for me. This would allow me to simply drop my phone into the dock. Using Tasker I could have it auto launch slacker.
The only alternative to obtain the best of both worlds is to open up a patch cable, ID +/- then wire a switch shorting the data pins in the closed position. While this works in theory, I’m not sure what the effects it would have on the phone/stereo (noise or actual damage). I have little working knowledge of audio.
What if you used the current OE dock and modified that one? That one is already proven to charge.

If I run into one cheap I may try, but I don't want to throw money at this which was my original plan. I made my first car mount tonight. This is the first time working with the much thicker Kydex T 0.093" and boy was it a pain to work. The stuff is about 4 times thicker then the seidio cases plastic shell. I took pics and even a couple videos. I'm happy with it in that it was a shot in the dark and I didn't expect alot out of the first one and also I found out how damn touch this thickness of Kydex is. I will post up info on it tomorrow when I have time to actually type it all up.
interesting, I was hoping to build my own dock as well. Could you post pictures of the circuit board from the original dock? I'm close to buying one just to tear apart for the charge+audio
Great work so far, Keep us posted

You can buy the dock for vibrant or captivate for about $8-$10. I tested they board and it does charge and pass audio.
There are about 6 tiny screws that are accessed by prying off the panel off the back. Be careful doing this, easy to gouge your hand.
The problem will come when you try to mount the board without leaving these delicate wires exposed. Hope this helped.

Should work just fine. I am putting the finishing touches on my guide right now for my first mount that I made last night. If you follow the instructions you should have no problem making a mount an incorporating whatever features you like. I'm still up in the air whether I will be using this dock board or just placing a 90 degree USB cable in. I am waiting to hear back on a quote from a Kydex dealer for a few more sheets and when I get those I will make a more refined end product. What I post here in a bit will be just a way of getting people on the track to making their own mounts. Many people don't realize how easy it really is.

I was looking at the wiring, if I could figure out which pins are used for audio, I could figure out if the other pins could (possibly already are?) fused. I know there are complains about OEM desk docks from captivate and other same gen galaxy s devices not fast charging.

Nice work so far! I've been entertaining the idea of a car dock for my precious Note as well, and I wasn't a big fan of the one that is available from Samsung.
If you plan to move into any sort of CAD/CAM development, I'd love to offer my modeling skills to the cause. I made this guy a while back for my Atrix as a desk dock, but ended up buying the HD dock towards the end of the Project lol.
I'm not trying to highjack this thread or anything, just want to offer my services to the cause. If there is an interest, i will start drawing up some plans.

Very cool work but mine will be mounted in my truck so that cool work would go to waste. My mount is aimed at the average joe who can invest <$20 and have themselves a full functional car dock. I'm working on tracking down sources for different parts. I just some rotating adjustable low profile swivels that will allow the case just to rotate from portrait to landscape rather then disassembly. I ordered two to try it out.
Nice cant wait to see the finished product will you be selling any?
Hey guys. I just wanted you all to know that of the three options: Nokia Charging Pillow, plate, or stand. It's all about the stand! I've purchased all three and I wish I would have purchased the stand FIRST! I didn't know about it until after I purchased the pillow and the plate. The plate sucks because you have to make sure the phone is centered at all times, otherwise your phone doesn't charge or over heats or both. I've had bad experiences going to sleep and waking up to a beeping 120 degree phone. The pillow sucks because well for me it was pointless. It didnt help me in any way, I just took the plate out of the pillow and then it became a plate, which I just finished explaining. The pillow itself is a waste of money. The stand is perfect, you don't have to worry about your phone being centered because once its put on the stand it is centered. Anyways. To me, the plate and the pillow were mistakes. They should have only created the stand in the first place. Its perfect! I bought it from AT&T on employer discount for around $50, I think regular price its about the same as the others at about $65.
I got the stand used through Amazon and it does work pretty well. As others have mentioned though the NFC while working isn't in the best spot, and the phone can't be set horizontally either to watch videos or something. I'm sure there will be better ones down the line when wireless charging catches on.
Can you post a link to the stand, I see a ton when I google.

Well, you can't set the phone down horizontally and watch movies on any of the 3 can you? I just think that out of the 3 this one beats the other 2 hands down. And I think because it is always centered it charges slightly faster too. With the plate I am always wondering if its sitting on it correctly. Which is pretty annoying, especially if i pick it up at night when im in bed and i try to center it again in the dark...
Hopefully Verizon carries this thing online soon so I can use my discount. Otherwise it is fairly expensive especially since I plan to buy 2 or 3.
I also have the stand and agree it is the best option. You actually can get it to play and charge while horizontal if you don't mind propping it up on something. I have not been able to get the NFC to even activate and yes, I have it turned on in the settings. Maybe I am touching with the wrong spot on the phone. Can anyone discuss how this works?

AT&T had it last week and I bought one with my employee discount for $51.75 which is a lot better than $69. I tried to buy another one yesterday but it was out of stock. When it's back in stock I'll see if I can work something out with anyone that wants one. I could just buy it and have it shipped straight to you instead of myself. Paypal transaction or something. The NFC chip in the phone is behind the HTC logo, but it won't activate since the tag in the charging stand is for Windows Phone. You'll have to download an app called NFC Retagger to set the tag to launch an app or action
The NFC tag on the stand is on the front, on top if the little white light. I believe it says "NFC" in small print.
This confused me also, because I expected the NFC to be in the back if the stand, so the phone would see the NFC while charging. But, I don't know, maybe the current interferes with it or something.

Just to report back, NFC Retag worked for me. Easy to use and set up, works great with the stand and you do have to have the phone screen active and hold it sideways. Probably easier to just turn on the app but nice to know it works. This is new technology for me, other than the commercials of people tapping phones together I am not familiar with other ways this feature is used in everyday life but I am here to learn.
Thanks again.
has anyone found a desktop charging dock that will work with this guy?
I have seen some for the one, but this phone is almost an inch wider, so I don't think those would work

make your own. im making one from matchsticks right now! lol
I purchased 2 Motorola keylinks one from Motorola's website and one from a T-Mobile store. I want to share my though about this little device.
Let me start by saying the keylink is much smaller than I imagined it would be. The device itself isn't anything fancy its just a little triangular key fob with a single button and a hole in the back whose function I am not sure of at this time. The fob won't get in your way like the battery pack micro would and I don't even notice that its there.
The Motorola connect app is what is used to find your phone or Keylink should you misplace it. If you lost your phone simply double tap the Keylinks button to have your phone chime in a really annoying "come find me and shut me off" fashion.
Edit: I found out what the tiny hole on the back of the Keylink is. Its a speaker for when you "Ping it" from the app. The button on the back also flashes green to make it easier to find. It should be noted that you hedge to press the button to get out to stop beeping unless there's a set time it beeps for. (I haven't tested it to see how long it beeps for before stopping)
(I blacked out the street names in the screen shots for privacy reasons)
The app won't let me create and OP and post pictures in the same post so here they are:
did you ever use the moto power pack micro prior to this?
i use the power pack micro and it does not get in my way at all. i have push button start in the ride so the keys stay in my backpack, etc.
different strokes i suppose. i picked up the power pack micro for its charging gimmick and the fact that i can attach it to the moto 360s charge base (i carry one around in my backpack) so i have power to charge that little guy when needed.
appreciate you taking time to post on this gadget. you answered the questions i was wanting to know...

Its just too big for me. I tried one out and I didn't like it. I understand everyone has a need, I was just addressing those of us who want something small that can fit easily into your pocket without adding a huge bulge.
I think the micro is good for some but not everyone, I like to have the bare minimum when I carry my keys as you can see, but if I left it in my bad out wouldn't be bad at all, however I prefer it on my keys where I can't lose it.
i purchased a keylink too mainly for the trusted device. Im loving it so far no problems here.

I like my keys to be minimal as well. I used to have a Ford SUV but I couldn't stand how many issues it had (I bought it new too). I love my KIA, its Android inspired because I can.
Anyway the Keylink is small enough not to notice so I would give it a try. T Mobile was sold out all around where I was, I called 7 stores to find one.
