How to make better photos - HTC EVO 3D

Hello. I was sold my S2 yesterday and bought EVO 3D.
I've had HTC Legend and HTC Desire and both had bad cameras, just like EVO!
Pictures in 3D isn't so bad when you looking on phone, but I don't have 3D monitor or 3D TV. Pictures in 2D (5MP) are desperately. Colours very bad, brightness low.. I've tried playing with setting but no big difference..
Maybe someone tryed with another camera app?
Any solution for better camera app?
I have GSM EVO, stock 2.3.4

I thought the pics were pretty good. Changing the camera app won't really change anything.

I had Galaxy S2 and I thought the pictures on S2 are bad, but now I'm looking and it looks like is shooted with digital camera!
EVO for me have very bad pictures, today on sunny day I shooted a few photos in nature and I can't belive how photos are "deadly"!

Is that when playing back on the phone or the pc?
Sent from my HTC EVO 3D X515m

Both, on phone pictures is bad, but on bigger screen on computer is worse.

Root the bad boy and flash amaze camera.
Sent from my HTC EVO 3D X515m using Tapatalk

Or install the apk, no root required.

i installed amaze camera for my GSM evo 3D, and there is no different between amaze camera photos and stock camera photos
i also tried camera 360 ultimate, camera zoom fx - still bad photos

Have you read the following:

Theres another one too around I'll try to find for ya too...

Raw power isn't everything. Samsung have the worst UI ever, the ICS LPQ official release is buggy, and the only other alternative is AOSP which is boring after a while. Sense is far superior in every way. I swapped my GS2 i9100 for an HTC EVO 3D (plus he gave me £50) and I love it, so much better to use than that horrendous Touchwiz infested s2.

I have the cdma version n the camera works great before and after i rooted my phone wife gs2 camera also works great and she havent rooted it yet. You might have something wrong with your phone cuz the 3d camera's been better thn the 4g for me

The 3d used to have an awful camera due to the incorrect white balance (green pics). They eventually fixed that.
Now those that say no difference between stock and amaze camera... Compare on a larger screen or print. The stock camera is much more compressed and won't look as sharp.
And for the record, I have taken awesome pics which this phone...

Best camera ? X10 vs HTC evo 3d

Okay guys in United states ! I'm planning to buy a evo 3d but in Europe we're still waiting for it (now we get Lg Thrill...). I can't find any help regarding camera quality, compared to our x 10 (in 5 Mpx).
Since you have the evo 3d, can someone compare to our x10 sensor ?
Thanks !!
Our camera is way better. For making videos the evo is better because of its fullhd support. Htc cameras are always crap for taking photos

Here's a review of the EVO 3D:
www.phonearena.com/reviews/HTC-EVO-3D-Review_id2768
The reviewer says the photos taken are just average in quality. There are also samples in the article.
My girlfriend has an EVO 4G, and I hate that results of that camera. When doing indoor shots without flash you'll end up with lots of blurry, dark, and grainy pictures. It also does not support macro which is a big fail given that the EVO 4G (or the 'Supersonic' elsewhere) was considered one of the best Android phones a year ago.
I have never been impressed with HTC camera quality. In fact I strongly believe there cameras are garbage. Thats just one reason why Ill never own a HTC device again.
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
Only problem I have with x10 camera is that taking good photos takes alot of practice.
So if I want to be in a picture and I need someone else to take the photo....well they just struggle and then insult my beloved phone... :,(

My phone is a HTC and pics arent as good but you can't really tell the difference unless ur a photophile. Go over to the evo forums and ask the same question. You're obviously going to have biased answers depending on which forum.
IMHO, HTC cameras are a piece of crap and nowhere to be compared to an X10.. not even the mini.. But that's just me.
go to gsmarena and do some comparisons and read the reviews..

im pretty sure if they wanted to make a phone with a good camera they'd make it 10 times better than our x10's camera...
Thanks a lot for your answers
On x10, I can shoot in macro mode with (often) increible quality. But when it comes to shoot a bit far things, quality is very random.
It's very hard to tell because it's personal opinion, I know it will sound different if I post such topic on HTC forum
And... Kinda harder, Optimus 3D (aka Thrill) vs EVO 3D vs x10 ? It looks the two 3d devices are almost the same. Some reviewers will soon do a big 3d compete (HTC, lg, Nintendo 3ds, g-slate, pro camera)...
I do try to find out what's the best device for shooting in these three phones
Problem solved : I've actually ordered a Galaxy SII
I've compared HTC Sensation vs SII vs x10 thanks to GSMArena.
Sensation was fantastic as video recorder (in test) : very detailled, perfect fluidity, good saturation...
I finally chose the SII because :
- Saturation is less (altough I prefer Sensation saturation)
- Less contrast and less destructive colors
- Sensation adds noise to several colors, and it can be VERY destructive on some photos...
Guess the SII is very good choice, crazy power, good photos, I'd prefer to give Sense UI a try but Sensation lacks of ram

EVO 3D

hi there!
i can get a discout on EVO 3d GSM,
you recommend the device?
i love 3d (used it on my friend's 3ds). how can i check im not buying the version with to large lenses and not the one with one of them smaller? (does it matters?)
thanks!
Of course I would recommend evo 3d gsm. I upgraded from dhd to evo 3d. Plus for me so far is the improvement in battery life. In addition the dual core , 3d (love to take 3d pics myself) , 1gig ram etc.... .
thanks
i hope the discout will be good. if not, i will wait to a phone with 720P screen (and maybe 3D )....

totally confused

I am currently using HTC desire hd now I wants some change....I am totally confused between,HTC evo3d and sensation ..
can anyone help me which 1 is better ?
thanks
The Evo 3D has a 3d camera and glasses-free 3d display. other than that, they're just about identical... 3d camera is 5 megapixels, senstation camera is 8 too btw.

What he said. Both phones have great dev support on here, too. It's a matter of which carrier gives you the better rates/coverage in your area. Both phones are almost identical in form and function.
HTC Sensation has 768mb of ram, Evo 3D has 1GB. Sensation has qualcomm MSM8260 processor, while Evo 3D has an MSM8660 chipset (which is only different from the 8260 in that it also supports CDMA as well as GSM). The Evo 3D is the same thing as the Sensation except it has more ram, it is less laggy on the stock ROM, and it has awesome 3D capablities. On my Evo 3D I can take 3D photos, watch 3D movies, play 3D games, etc. SPB Shell 3D (a replacement launcher) even supports 3D on the Evo 3D. Sure the Sensation camera is 3mp more, but it only has one camera, and does not have the 3D capabilities. It all comes down to whether you want the 3D or not, whether you want the extra 256mb ram, and whether you care about being able to take 2D photos with 3 more megapixels. I personally don't think the 3D is a gimmick.

Why no working HDR for the EVO 3D?

I know there are "hacks" or hacked versions of the camera that enable an "HDR" option, but it does nothing. It only takes one photo. Also the two HDR camera apps on the market don't produce HDR photos, as they take all the same exposure. One of the companies responded to me when I asked them about this. They said that this was due to a driver issue with the EVO 3D. I can understand that as it's got a bada$$ 3D camera! But seriously, can no one write a camera that will do HDR?
it is true. I have apps like HDR camera+ and pro HDR camera installed in my HTC EVO 3D but none of them is working. I have the same apps in my android HTC HD2 and they work great.
Could somebody give me advice what can I do to have working HDR on my HTC EVO 3D (I have original android 4.0.3 in it)
Have you tried the latest 4.2.2 update?

It appears to me that the camera has low level exposure control that is automatic and cannot really be manipulated by third party applications. Even when you change the exposure settings from the native camera app it seems to do very little. However it seems like using the front facing camera with third party HDR apps will work, or at least it appears to have better results.

Unfortunately front camera in HTC EVO 3D makes photos of very low quality thats why its absolutely useless despite using HDR.

I was thinking that would probably work but you lose at least the ability to take 3d photos and at worst the ability to watch pictures and videos in 3D. But if that doesn't matter then it could work.

Ahem... I changed my battery to an extended one for 10 euros, 3500mah. Yeah, it it bulkier now, but I like it this way, it fits more comfortable in my hands and the battery lasts a hell damn lot. 5mpx is enough for a camera unless you want professional photography, in which case, buy a real camera. With a bit of tweaks and some general knowledge of fotography, my evo 3d makes pictures so good that my girlfriend with iphone 5 hates me for them sometimes. 3d photography and filming... There are only 2 phones on the market that can do that, from what i know, so consider your toy rather unique. As for the 1gb of memory, it has an sd slot, and most apps can be moved to card. It is enough. Of course it has gorilla glass, check your sources next time you say something like this. My phone has seen more crashes than most and it doesnt have a scratch on it.
Rooting the evo 3d gives you lots of possibilities, tweaks and new options that make it live a lot longer than intended, and no, you cannot compare it to a note 2 or a razr maxx especially since they are different generation phones. Yeah, the later two are more powerful, but they are also a lot newer and at least double its price.
You do what you choose, but do not discriminate this phone because of your lack of knowledge, it is quite powerful and versatile, especially considering its age. I, for one, will keep it a long time from now on, even when i will buy a new phone i will have this one as secondary

Anyone miss 3d?

Just wondering for those who migrated from Evo 3d, are you missing 3d pictures and 3d videos? Looking at some 3d pictures I've taken with friends, girlfriend, and other events (even though may seem gimmicky) I do like looking at them as they seem to give me a more of a realistic image. Also find movies I have in 3d more enjoyable to watch on my phone or in the theaters.
Not really.

I miss it's Menu and Search button. And power button (more on that in a new thread).
My wife has the 3D now (brand new replacement). It was a good phone and I could have easily suffered with it for another year. It's running MeanROM ICS 1.7
I like the 3D, it was always a conversation piece.
I took video of my friends kids recital and sent them to her and she watched them on her 3D TV.
Camera is good on LTE, but it does not preview white balance correctly. That's a pet pieve of mine (even on a crappy cell phone camera), I HATE Yellow, Green or Blue tinged photos. White balance works but you can't check it until AFTER you take the picture. It also has huge pincushion compare the 3D or EVO 4G camera. Not a huge deal but it sure can be ugly in some situations, it can be fixed in software if you cared about the photo.
dont really missed it. my kids played with it more than i did.
I miss it. Went on vacation to south padre n I got a lot of pictures n videos if you know what I mean. Unfortunately, my friend lost my phone after I had told her to hold it for me at a bar because the battery was dead. Miss the 3D part of it.

Nope, not missing the 3D camera at all. I hardly ever took 3D pictures, and the quality of the 3D pictures wasn't all that great considering it wasn't the full 5MP of the camera. The EVO 4G LTE takes much better pictures IMO.

OH man that sucks. Sorry to hear that. I bet they looked great in 3d as if you were actually there. Well at least thats how I feel when viewing things I've recorded or pictures I've take in 3d.
Nope not missing it at all. If this phone had it, it probably would have held up getting root, lol. Maybe not, but 3d did hold up development the whole time I had that evo.
Swyped from my eVo
I certainly don't miss my Evo 3d, doesn't even compare to the Evo LTE in my opinion. To me the 3d pictures were awful and did nothing for me but give me a headache. That being said, the 3d movies looked good (ex. Green Lantern) but I never watched them or took 3d video. I personally bought the phone for the dual core proccessor and the screen quality. I found that the phone never lived up to the 1.2 dual core power I was expecting, with 2800 quadrant scores on stock. The LTE is testing out around 5000 on quadrant and the screen is amazing. I felt since the day I bought my Evo 3d that it just wasn't up to par with the standards set by the OG Evo. The LTE blows those standards out of the water and has set the bar extremely high for the Galaxy S3 and others... If you are debating on whether or not to upgrade to the LTE, don't! Hands down the LTE is the best phone out to date.
rmusic thanks for the input. I have no doubt evo LTE overall is a better phone. Just wanted to see if others are missing the 3d for those that use it often. As far as upgrading though I still might hold off due to no LTE in my area as I use my WiMAX a lot to tether my tablet. I actually good WiMAX coverage in a lot of places.
