Just wondering for those who migrated from Evo 3d, are you missing 3d pictures and 3d videos? Looking at some 3d pictures I've taken with friends, girlfriend, and other events (even though may seem gimmicky) I do like looking at them as they seem to give me a more of a realistic image. Also find movies I have in 3d more enjoyable to watch on my phone or in the theaters.
Not really.

I liked it, but there just wasn't enough content. so I never used it. Plus I love this phone so much compared to that thick heavy, to skinny of a screen phone.

I miss it's Menu and Search button. And power button (more on that in a new thread).
My wife has the 3D now (brand new replacement). It was a good phone and I could have easily suffered with it for another year. It's running MeanROM ICS 1.7
I like the 3D, it was always a conversation piece.
I took video of my friends kids recital and sent them to her and she watched them on her 3D TV.
Camera is good on LTE, but it does not preview white balance correctly. That's a pet pieve of mine (even on a crappy cell phone camera), I HATE Yellow, Green or Blue tinged photos. White balance works but you can't check it until AFTER you take the picture. It also has huge pincushion compare the 3D or EVO 4G camera. Not a huge deal but it sure can be ugly in some situations, it can be fixed in software if you cared about the photo.
dont really missed it. my kids played with it more than i did.
I miss it. Went on vacation to south padre n I got a lot of pictures n videos if you know what I mean. Unfortunately, my friend lost my phone after I had told her to hold it for me at a bar because the battery was dead. Miss the 3D part of it.

Nope, not missing the 3D camera at all. I hardly ever took 3D pictures, and the quality of the 3D pictures wasn't all that great considering it wasn't the full 5MP of the camera. The EVO 4G LTE takes much better pictures IMO.

OH man that sucks. Sorry to hear that. I bet they looked great in 3d as if you were actually there. Well at least thats how I feel when viewing things I've recorded or pictures I've take in 3d.
Nope not missing it at all. If this phone had it, it probably would have held up getting root, lol. Maybe not, but 3d did hold up development the whole time I had that evo.
Swyped from my eVo
I certainly don't miss my Evo 3d, doesn't even compare to the Evo LTE in my opinion. To me the 3d pictures were awful and did nothing for me but give me a headache. That being said, the 3d movies looked good (ex. Green Lantern) but I never watched them or took 3d video. I personally bought the phone for the dual core proccessor and the screen quality. I found that the phone never lived up to the 1.2 dual core power I was expecting, with 2800 quadrant scores on stock. The LTE is testing out around 5000 on quadrant and the screen is amazing. I felt since the day I bought my Evo 3d that it just wasn't up to par with the standards set by the OG Evo. The LTE blows those standards out of the water and has set the bar extremely high for the Galaxy S3 and others... If you are debating on whether or not to upgrade to the LTE, don't! Hands down the LTE is the best phone out to date.
rmusic thanks for the input. I have no doubt evo LTE overall is a better phone. Just wanted to see if others are missing the 3d for those that use it often. As far as upgrading though I still might hold off due to no LTE in my area as I use my WiMAX a lot to tether my tablet. I actually good WiMAX coverage in a lot of places.

The idea is/was to use the camera to capture your favorite moments in 3d. Imo, this was a great idea but not a lot of people have 3d monitors or TVs yet. This just came out too early. I can totally see this coming back in the future.

So Ive been with a samsung epic on and off since its launch and have gotten very used to a GREAT camera (for a phone). It takes exceptional stills in all light conditions AND probably the best hd video ive seen on a phone. It seems all the droids and htc phones i see videos of on youtube, even brand new ones, that have literally just come out ,still some how dont compare to samsungs cameras on there devices. Ive been patiently waiting for an evo3d because of all of the specs and awesomeness , and my epic is broken and been around the block being fixed too many times anyways so now i am literally waiting on the evo 3d lol, BUT i feel like even on the evo3d , htc just cant compete with samsungs cameras and im going to miss samsung just for that. I dont know how to explain every time i youtube a sample camera video on every other phone it just seems sub par to the epic and or a few few other samsung phones, esepcially when in motion , wich was flawless on the epic, even in the dark.
People always come back with o well if you want quality video and pics then buy a real camera but i came to rely on the phone as a good cary around camera so theres no reason to have to do otherwise when buying a more advanced phone than the last........anybody got any opinions on the evo3ds camera or expectations ?
Can't really compare to the Evo3d yet, though there are some pics on the Evo3d forums, though they don't bode well for the new Evo.

yeah im not holding my breath for a good low light camera on the e3d. You would think that since one of the main marketing features is its camera. I really hope HTC went with better camera hardware, A bigger CMOS/CCD sensor would greatly help in low light settings. I would also like to see more manual settings, A bulb mode would be nice, or timed exposures. Even if they had to buy hardware from samsung. HTC please give us a good camera for once.
I thought the photos and videos on the wirefly video review looked very nice..granted they werent in low light
I really had no complaints about my Evo after I bought Vignette. Video still sucked, but stills were great. 3d looks better on both fronts... And I am one who is pumped about 3d photos.

I'm.sorry your getting a little far fetched now..I've had an hero..and the evo 4g was a great Improvement in everything including the camera..there is simply no way that the HTC hero will be superior to the 3d ...wait till you get the phone and take your own pictures ..
The EVO uses the 8mp version of the Omnivision sensor used in the iPhone 4. Only reason iPhone's is better low light is because there are less pixels so the pixels left are bigger.
The Epic has an extra processor for the camera, plus the Evo's main issue with video was the bitrate it records at.
I thought the pics and the video looked kinda meh in that wirefly review, but I think my Vibrant's camera capabilities are pretty amazing for a 5mp phonecam ... oh well, can't wait to get rid of the rest of samsuck's phone
I thought the camera looked good, He may have not adjusted the setting on the camera for different lighting which would make it appear worse. I noticed how important these setting are on my fuze which takes horrible pictures (compared to the newer phones but that's to be expected).

Also I don't mean to offend but that looks horrible. My Fuze will take a way better picture than that. The glare is just awful. I'm not trying to get into the picture wars, but I have faith in the DEVs here to make me a happy camper. Maybe android people are a lot more impatient and demanding then older members. There's no such thing as the PHONE OF PHONES (As much as we would like), we have to give and take as well plus there a lot of personal preference involved as well.
I know I'll get a bunch of flamers for this and that's to be expected but after having this phone for a lil over a week now, I'm just not as impressed as I thought I would be. Idk, maybe not being able to flash ROMS & do some of the same things I could with my Evo & Epic, but this phone isn't all that mind blowing like I thought it would be. It's defitinely faster/quicker, I can't take that away from it, but thats about it. The screen difference isn't all that noticibale when compared to the OG Evo and still not as crisp or vibrant as the Epic imo. The camera is a improvement but also not by much. 3D is a fad, much like 3D TV's are. I think a Retina-like screen would have been a better feature. The new Sense is nice but it didn't add much over the previous one, plus we had it on the OG Evo. I'll probably keep it anyway and just upgrade my Epic to the GSII or Nexus Prime if they come to Sprint, but just wanted to see if there is anybody else out there who feel like I do.

To each their own - I for one love it, and am VERY happy that I ditched that Damn iPhone for the Droid (have a Xoom as well). Im not really sure I see the need to post that you dont like the phone, like anything in the world - Some people will like it and some wont. You cant argue the overall power of this phone, the 3D is cool - but this phone is worth it if you dont use it for 3D at all.... My Wife loves her too - So much that shes going make me live with the damn Sprint Data speeds, she refused to take her 3D back.
You went from an already fast phone, to a dual core version of the same phone with added RAM and a 3D capable screen (in a nutshell). You wouldn't see a major difference. It's like going from a 2 GHz PC to a 3 GHz PC. Sure you have two cores available now, but for your standard functionality, you won't see much of a change. And comparing it to a super AMOLED screen, well, the phone's specs were published beforehand. I never quite expected it to be as crisp as my Wife's Epic, but I love it anyhow.
For me, buying this phone was a hardware upgrade. 3D is a nice extra. Also, I sold my Evo just prior to launch of the 3D for more than enough to buy the phone w/accessories, so why not?
Now, if you were coming from a Hero or something of that nature, then of course the upgrade would be night and day.
I'm very impressed. But I'm coming from a Hero that I hated from day 1, not an EVO 4G. I agree that 3D still seems gimmicky and hurts my eyes after a while but I'm even slowly starting to like it more too.
I've had over 5 single core 1ghz phones
Two of whitch had AMOLED screens
(vibrant and nexus s) and I don't like the fake "vibrant" colors that LED screens have..
And a dual core. (G2X)
I agree with not "feeling" the power for the extra core.. but I also disagree because its the future... Ice cream in Q4 baby!

I understand the OP. I'm 50/50 whether I keep it or return for SGS2. It's going to sit deactivated until I decide. My fully rooted OG EVO with a custom ROM is preferable to the 3D right now.
But yeah, for months of build up it was kind of a let down from the OG EVO although I think that's our fault. It's very relative. I was hoping for a great camera and now I don't trust HTC...meh.
I'm really liking this phone. The battery life is good, the display is nice, as great horsepower. I get this strange popping every once and awhile when using the headphone jack... But other than that, I'm liking things in HTC Country. I stayed in Samsungville for over a year, I'm not going back for even a more powerful phone.
I agree with the OP. My OG was amazing. The resolution on the Inspire or EVO may be less but the screens are better on the eyes when it comes to the displaysize. The 3D is terrible. Maybe they should call it holographic because it reminds me of old holographic baseball cards. It's quick but, so was my CM7 EVO. Sense 3.0 is meh, I enjoy the new lockscreen widgets. Although I do enjoy the bloatware removal, better battery life, and task manager. I'm debating an SGS2 for a change.

The 3d doesn't look like a hologram unless you move your display to a different angle..
It's a "glasses off 3d" technology If you knew anything about 3d you would know that you need 3 view points to produce and view 3d in the proper form it was intended...

faster than most
Don't get me wrong. I'm not bashing the phone in any way. It's definitely faster and a nice upgrade from my OG Evo. I guess its like somebody else posted, I let my expectations get the better of me. The speed is undeniable, granted I never tried CM or any of the other AOSP ROMS long enough to compare speed/quickness but Myn's, Virus' & Mik's ROMS were pretty fast to me. The 3D is ok if your into that stuff but its a gimmick at best. I own a 3D TV & maybe have watch 2 or 3 movies in 3D. Got it because of the clarity & beauty of the LED. 3D was a extra. Now if they had added a Retnia or comparable screen then we would have something to talk about but this screen isn't any noticeably better than the screen on the OG Evo. Battery life is better than the OG Evo had at its launch but once I got my 3500 Seidio & SBC kernel, battery life didn't matter. I got 2 days on a single charge. Can't really bring Sense into it because we have Sense 3 on the OG Evo also. I guess maybe once we get full root & S-Off and can start really unlocking what the phone can do, my opinion will change but right now its not any better, actually below the OG Evo in functionality & fun. Imo right now I don't see anything this phone does any better than its predecessor.

Coming from the Hero, this is a HUGE upgrade. Compared to my wife's OG Evo....not so much, until you look 6 months down the road. I think then we'll see the OG Evo's shortcomings. As the apps get bigger and graphically better and we have custom roms running on the 3D I think it will really seperate itself from all of it's predecessors.

I hope you realize what you're saying about the screen..
"Retina Display" = Apple's name for a 960x540 resolution. The reason it looks a little better is because it's more pixels crammed into a smaller screen.
I'd take a 4.3 over it anyday.
I came from the Epic, and really really like both phones. I really don't think you can go wrong with either.
Alright, let's be honest. HTC is not famous for its camera but sense 3.0 really stands out. Therefore, I am really cool to say my EVO 4G's camera really sucks even it is equipped with 8MP camera. My old nokia n95 8g with 5MP can take better pictures than evo 4g.
Now with my new phone which is EVO 3D, I am really satisfied with its ability taking good 5MP pictures. It's always focused now compared to evo 4g. However, one day I was at a bar and try to record a video of my friends playing music. My friend was using iphone 4 and I used evo 3d to shoot the video. The quality of evo 3d is not bad but somehow I see the neon sign is overexposed compared to iphone 4. I tried to change the setting but in vain. But iphone 4 doesn't seem to have this problem.
Right now I can only show my videos since I don't have the videos from my friend. Once I got it, I will post it here right away. At the top right corner, you can see overexposed budweiser sign. Iphone 4 managed to get the sign clearly.
Here's the link

Just wondering if anybody really does the comparison of the cameras between EVO 3D and Iphone 4? I would like to see some real "AMATEUR" pictures and videos. I don't need a professional fanboys or fangirls to do a lot of adjustment before taking the pictures and videos in order to bias the review. Thanks
Don't have any pics on hand but a girlfriend of mine has the iPhone 4 & we battle all the time. But sorry to say, while the 3D has improved on the OG 4G its still not as good as the iPhone 4. There was another post on here with people doing a lil comparison. Some of them tended to think that the hardware was just as good, it was HTC's software that ruined the camera. I can't say either way and don't know how they could either, since nobody has ever run the cameras with different software, but out of the box, the iPhone 4 is still tops when it comes to pics/videos.

Hi guys, I currently have photon which I do like. I I hate motoblur, and end up rooting it and removing sprint bloat, installing different launcher, sms app, keyboard as photons stock offering is very much lacking.
Now, I always love custom roms which makes phone snapper, and right now, photon doesn't really have much to offer as far as dev goes at all... Specially due to unlocking method which kills 4g and so much workaround required to get it working.
I have an opportunity to trade my photon in for an evo3d. As far as raw performance gods, which is better? Is tegra chip much better than the dual core in the evo? I know that with the evo there is much more development going on to say the least, but is the device pretty comparable performance wise? Isn't photons display a little richer? Even though both are qhd?

Im going to give the best opinion before a battle breaks out. Go with whichever one your happier with. There both good phones.

The display on the EVO looks better in my opinion because if you look close at the photon it gets all colored its the pentile display. You will get mixed results about which phone has more raw power. The biggest differences are 3d vs global. The EVO also has an asynchronous processor and the photon doesn't. It's preference. Personally if I need my phone to last I can get a good 17 hours so I don't know if battery life is that important. But a lot of people saythat the photon is faster. I couldn't give you a verdict on that. They are both great phones.

As a owner of both.
Display: the 3D has a slightly crisper display but even with the brightness all the way down the Photon is still view-able in sunlight. Even with the brightness all the way up the 3D the screen is barely usable.
Battery: the Photon is heads and shoulders above the 3D. I'm a heavy user and was able to get more than a day worth of usage.
Radio: Photon wins here again. Locks and stays connected to 4G, 3G and voice signals much better than the 3D. The 3D would always drop connection on me whenever I tried downloading larger files.
Performance: Quadrant scores don't mean much but I consistently got around 2700 on the Photon running at stock speeds. The 3D only got 2200 max at stock speeds, the only time I got 2700-3000 I had to be overclocked at around 1.5Ghz. Remember the photon is only running at 1Ghz ( no overclocking available yet )
Sense vs. Blur: Sense adds a lot of apps and additional functionality but I do not use much if any of it, so for me it's just bloat. I prefer to replace rosie with Launcher Pro. The HTC gallery would never load my picasa album but the Photon's gallery loads my pics fine.
I never used the 3D functionality on the 3D but missed the kickstand on my OG Evo so the kickstand on the Photon is a welcome sight for sore eyes. The kickstand works in every orientation except upside down.
I travel over seas a lot so the gsm roaming is also a great addition.
Before either device launched the Photon was my original choice but being a gadget geek like most of you here, I caved and got the Evo 3D because it launched first.
There you have it, my summation of the features specs that are important for me.

Nicely stated, if I wasn't getting the sgs2 next week, I'd grab a photon because of this. Lol

From that shot it looks as if you don't hardly use your phone at all.
Your phone idle is using twice the battery your screen is using.

That's because I turn backlighting all the way down.
The screen is still bright enough.
I thought about it too. I switched to sprint from Verizon. I had a Droid x and decided to go with an evidence 3d. I had it over night and took it back and got a photon. It's way better than the evo. I'm not one for htc's sense stuff. The speaker is louder on the photon, camera seems better, and the phone is lite weight. I also like the trimmed edges

Sprint is throwing all their money into marketing for the Evo 3D but the Photon is a better phone bar none. The Photon would be a beast if it had the dev support like the Evo 3D.
Even without the dev support the Photon is still better.
I'm rooted but the bootloader is still locked so no real modding/customization as yet.
I have 30 days to decide but I think my mind is already made up.
The Evo 3D almost made me switch to Verizon, that's how bad it's radio issues were for me.

Wow, the issues you have or had make no sense. HTC radios are updated and improved more often and faster than any others I've seen. Price for the photon already droppped a hundred bucks at bestbuy. The only feature the photon has that I'm jelous of is the dock to t.v. control. Other than that laggy and and the too much plastic feel are overwhelming for such a high end phone.
And their off!!!!

Hi I've been sneaking into this forum every so often. I have a s2 and love it but also love technology so looking now at 3d i've looked at evo and lgs version but don't know if it's worth the update to 3d. I also love sense and on some reviews the evo is flawless in speed..
What do you users think?
What score does it get on quadrant
Also if you take a picture or video in 3d can it be converted back to 2d for printing and viewing on pc
Thanks in advance

All pictures can be viewed in 2D as well and it usually asks to convert to 2D when emailing. Not sure about the video, I do not take much video in 3D.
SGS2 scores higher in Quad but that is really nothing to go by.
Evo 3D camera shutter lag is torture and makes any moving object impossible to shoot. I am looking forward to the better camera on the SGS2.
Either way, they are both top of the line devices and you can't go wrong with either.
You also have to think, we are EVO 3D owners and are excited to try something new. It doesn't mean the SGS2 will be better for us, I think at this point we are just hoping it is. We will know for sure come next week though.
i always had good experiences with samsung phones...
until they started making "smart phones"... they aren't very smart about it.
the phone has great hardware, yes. but samsung phones lack the support that HTC has from them to us (the consumers). HTC is ALWAYS right on top of problems that arise, while samsung is a little more like sprint in the customer service department. kind of like "if somebody complains, we'll deal with it. if not, whatever."
I have owned 4 samsung phones. three of them were flawless and perfect. the most recent, however, was a samsung moment. that thing was a nightmare. and i got no help from sprint or samsung with it.
stick with google nexus phones, or HTC. that is my new mode now. and i love the hell out of my 3D by the way. nothing this thing can't handle, and it will only get better as more software is dev'd for it in the hacking community.
**edit... to the OP, it is extremely important that you remember this one thing... the software inside the phone is just as important to the performance as the hardware...
I have both I decided why do I have to choose someday I pop the sim in the evo somedays the galaxy s2, beautiful screen very then and fast, but I gotta admit I have little more fun playing with the evo 3d.

Can you please give more detail.....What makes the 3D more fun? How do the screens compare? Is the Evo's qhd display overshadowed by the Super Amoled Plus screen even though it has a lower res? Does the SGS2's camera have the shutter lag like the 3D?
The UI is just enjoyable on the e3d. And its very fast ..the differences in that regard is neglible..quadrant is useless except for fps and for evaluating your own phone after flashing a rom etc. The shutter lag isn't terrible it just isn't instant and I'm sure it will be improved with an update eventually ..I for one have taken nice shots with the e3d but yes fast moving objects can be hard to capture but most smartphones suffer from that ..either way you would have a super phone and def ahead of the curve ..software has a ways to go to catch up to the hardware within these devices
I actually love the SGS2. I got one in Mid June or July as the EVO 3D wasn't available here in Asia yet. I have no regret in getting the SGS2 first as it's one POWERFUL phone. But I bought the EVO 3D just last week and REALLY ENJOYING the built, solidness, and the 3D features. I love watching 3D Youtube even though it looks like it's damaging my eyes LOL! But if you were to read text alot, the EVO 3D is sharper as it has a higher resolution. Colors aren't comparable to the SGS2 due to the super amoled plus display. So you can't go wrong with either of them. Both has different features, etc. I just can't pass up the idea of not having both of them as it won't be fair to one or the other
i dont like the colors on the amoleds. yeah blacks are great but but the other colors kill me. the whites on my evo3d shine compare to my nexus.

I'm a sense lover, so the EVO 3d fits my needs well. I'm also easily satisfied, and as long as it does what I want it to do, I'm good. I live in big city where 4G is ubiquitous and fast, tho I'm mostly on 3g to save battery. Whenever I need to download large files or watch youtube vids tho, 4G always does me good.
I have yet to mess with my phone, so everything is stock. Sense UI is pretty, but also fast. I do a lot on my phone as I'm mostly away from my computer. From online banking to watching movies, to playing games, to navigating the city, to listening to streaming music, and much more. This phone makes it all happen.
I know if I had the sgs2, I'd be doing the same things on it, and be raving about it as well. But I have this phone, so I make the best of it.
3d is awesome to me. People are always delighted to see it. And it gives the phone a special niche. At first tho, my eyes did hurt after prolong viewing, but I can honestly say after almost 3 months of having the device, my eyes don't hurt anymore. It's like evolution. My eyes have adjusted to it.
The only thing I hate abt he EVO 3d is that while charging, it slows down. I feel the difference. Its like night and day. Other than that, its an awesome Android phone, and as long as you don't have hardware or software related problems with the phone, its a very delightful and enjoyable experience.

I also have both. I got the S2 about 8 weeks ago and love it but I was torn between it and the sensation at the time. So when the Evo 3d was launched here in Canada I broke down last week and pick it up. Both phones are great.
