I have brand new Photon 4G and it will charge via wall charger but not USB. Earlier, we had to do an SBF because it was soft bricked. Everything was working fine, the next morning, my Photon won't charge USB, It asks me for my method (Charge Only) etc and the battery does not indicate a charging signal. I downloaded the Moto Drivers AND PC Charging Drivers, when I go to install, it does not recognize as an unknown device.
Google USBDeview, install. Then delete all motorola and Mot drivers and install again. Or reinstall windows.

I have a samsung fascinate that will not connect to my computer no matter what I do. I have installed the drivers from samsung, I have connected through mass storage with usb debugging on, I have connected as mass storage without debugging on. I just cannot figure out why my computer will not recognize the phone. It just says that it is charging, and I am getting quite fed up with it. I want to connect it in order to root it, but if it will not read that the phone is attached, what am I to do? HELP ME!
Thanks!
Are you on Windows 7? Lately my pc has been doing the same thing. Except I can't get ANY usb devices to work. But here is my suggestion, shut down your pc, then unplug the power cord from the back and let it sit for a while. Then boot it up and see if that helps.

Also make sure you are using the stock cable. I've had problems with using an aftermarket cable before.
The issue was not using the stock cable... WHO KNEW?!
I had the same issues with the stock cable, on a whim I tried the cable to my kindle and it worked perfectly.

also just an idea, but check device manager to see if there is any errors with it, also admin privileges (not sure if needed)

eh sorry didnt see problem was solved
when I connect the USB cable onto the computer the USB notification fails to appear and the charge indicator doesnt work. The USB cable works as I had just unlocked the bootloader but now the USB does not work and I cannot charge!
Anyone ever come across this problem? RSD still detects though so I guess there may be hope

What ROM have you got installed? I had this problem with CM7-ICS-MOD2 rom, but I reinstalled the ROM and its fine.
I've also had problems with buying cheap USB cables that pass some voltage/current to the phone (so it shows charging icon) but somehow Windows won't recognise the phone... doesn't sound like your problem tho
I think it's not the rom, I think it's the cable and it's not a cheap cable thought it's the normal motorola cable, well what could I say **** happens and all my data's gone cause I thought it might be a problem with the rom. thanks all
I had the same problem with a different phone.. The problem is connection point on the phone especially if it's not charging.. So I'm not sure if that's a part that can be replaced or not.
Hey all. I figured it out, went out side and took a different cable and it worked fine. it was a cable problem.thanks all for supporting.I'm gonna get a new cable from Motorola.
I have 4 cables that don't work on stock android 1.8.3 and I don't get it. I can use RSDLite and the computer detects it without the slightest issue. All the cables work flawlessly if I start rsd on phone boot and it detect right up. So what is wrong with the stock 1.8.3? Should I upgrade... I want to root my phone but can't since I can't use USB.... wtf?
When you plug in your phone, check if you see anything in device manager. Maybe you need to install drivers..

Windows doesn't have a clue no matter how many perfect cables I use. It works and connects perfectly and immediately over rsdlite. I have 5 known to be working fine in cm7 cables. It will show as charging over AC if I restart the phone and keep the usb cable plugged in. It says it's charging over ac and it doesn't detect it in Media portal or mass storage or anything. Nothing shows up. Why is it that rsdlite works perfectly. This makes me seem that the android OS is at fault. Right? Nothing shows up in Device Manager. Only when in rsd lite mode, it will detect the phone and it will show up in Device Manager.
it's been about 48 hours one a full battery and it'll still at like 80%. I need to charge my phone soon...
Maybe I'll re-flash in rsdlite again? I flashed all the sbf's for stock roms with the same result. Should I reinstall again?
thanks
I just picked up a used atrix that the owner said wouldn't charge. I swapped a known good battery in it and was able to get it to boot up. Thinking the USB port probably need replaced I looked for damage but could not find any and all the water sensors are fine. It wont charge from AC or from my computer and I have tried with 3 different known good USB cables and 3 different known good wall units that provide at least 5v (2 were official motorola chargers). Oddly enough my computer only detects that the phone is plugged in if the phone is in RSD mode or fastboot mode. I used rsdlite to flash back the 4.5.91 sbf hoping that a factory restore would do some magic but still no charging or mass storage mode identification. Any ideas or do I need to get comfortable with a soldering iron?

same problem here, hopefully someone finds a fix.
For the heck of it i created an active usb cable and re did the auto unlock procedure and flashed epinters latest cm10 build. After boot the charge indicator came on but still didn't appear to be charging. Rebooted into recovery and factory reset then powered it down. I then plugged it into my tablets usb charger that outputs at least 9v and for the first time it went to the charge screen. Now it seems that it's able to charge again finally.

Google it. In a nutshell, an active cable is a cable that has the fifth micro-USB pin (which is normally unused) connected to the (+) pin.
I have an un-rooted, bootloader unlocked, stock att rom that will not charge or be recognized by the computer while turned on. With the phone completely powered off, it will charge. In the bootloader, fastboot connects via USB with no problems. When I go to TWRP recovery, a USB device is connected for about 10 seconds, then it disconnects. With the phone loaded and running, I plug in the usb cable from the computer and nothing happens. The computer does not make the sound of a device connected, device manager doesn't show anything is connected nor will it charge. If I plug it into a normal wall charger, it still won't charge. My other HTC One works with these same cables. I already reflashed the stock RUU with no luck.
Any ideas what could be causing this?
Looks like an rma on that one boss...imo or try another computer possibly
