Atrix 4G USB Problem - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi I have a Atrix 4G and I was charging it fine yesterday and then today I tried to plug the phone to my computer but phone is not detected and then again the charging doesn't work too. what should I do and did anyone have this problem before? and there's no problem with the data cable cause I checked it with another phone. Please help me with this.

have you tried a different USB cable and it charger box for wall outlet?

What ROM have you got installed? I had this problem with CM7-ICS-MOD2 rom, but I reinstalled the ROM and its fine.
I've also had problems with buying cheap USB cables that pass some voltage/current to the phone (so it shows charging icon) but somehow Windows won't recognise the phone... doesn't sound like your problem tho

I think it's not the rom, I think it's the cable and it's not a cheap cable thought it's the normal motorola cable, well what could I say **** happens and all my data's gone cause I thought it might be a problem with the rom. thanks all

I had the same problem with a different phone.. The problem is connection point on the phone especially if it's not charging.. So I'm not sure if that's a part that can be replaced or not.

Hey all. I figured it out, went out side and took a different cable and it worked fine. it was a cable problem.thanks all for supporting.I'm gonna get a new cable from Motorola.

I have 4 cables that don't work on stock android 1.8.3 and I don't get it. I can use RSDLite and the computer detects it without the slightest issue. All the cables work flawlessly if I start rsd on phone boot and it detect right up. So what is wrong with the stock 1.8.3? Should I upgrade... I want to root my phone but can't since I can't use USB.... wtf?

When you plug in your phone, check if you see anything in device manager. Maybe you need to install drivers..

Windows doesn't have a clue no matter how many perfect cables I use. It works and connects perfectly and immediately over rsdlite. I have 5 known to be working fine in cm7 cables. It will show as charging over AC if I restart the phone and keep the usb cable plugged in. It says it's charging over ac and it doesn't detect it in Media portal or mass storage or anything. Nothing shows up. Why is it that rsdlite works perfectly. This makes me seem that the android OS is at fault. Right? Nothing shows up in Device Manager. Only when in rsd lite mode, it will detect the phone and it will show up in Device Manager.
it's been about 48 hours one a full battery and it'll still at like 80%. I need to charge my phone soon...
Maybe I'll re-flash in rsdlite again? I flashed all the sbf's for stock roms with the same result. Should I reinstall again?
thanks

[Q] Odin does not recognize my Vibrant

I can not get Odin to recognize my Vibrant. Only time it will find it is if my phone is powered on. The phone has to be on and in DL mode before Odin will see the phone.
Start odin n place the files with phone off plug into pc wait for battery on screen hold down volume up down and power when screen goes black release power only

I had serious probs with that too. I could get my phone into download mode but then windoze wouldn't recognize my phone and neither would odin. I tried it on multiple pcs without luck. Then... something great happened. I tried it on another pc with less abused usb ports. In fact my first success was using the adaptor for a cooling platform that plugged into the laptop's usb port and had a female port on the back so you could piggy back devices on one usb port. In any case, all of a sudden I could flash the **** out of my phone. These guys post that odin is picky about it's perfect usb connection and they are right but they don't elaborate just how picky or what to do except practice an exercise in futility pulling and plugging your cable over and over which never worked for me. You need a machine with a very tight usb port or one with an adaptor in it that gives it the right kind of usb "vaginal tightening" to make that perfect usb connection. Remember you are flashing your phone. This is a low level format and flash in essence hence this litttle program demands a tight connection, no hotdog in a tunnel trying to rub the sides. So don't fiddle with your cable like these guys tell you. It NEVER worked for me. find or create a great connection and you should be able to flash the crap out of your phone. Btw, mattering what rom you have installed you may have tweaked how to get into download mode. I guaranteedly got into it by having the usb cable plugged in and holding down the down volume button. with other roms it was both down and up volume or the up only but always with the usb cable plugged into the phone and pc. Good luck.

Thanks!! I figured it out though. I had an issue with the drivers installing and once I got it corrected it I was able to flash 2.2 through Odin. I can't wait to get my phone modded.
Hey guys i had problems with Odin not recognizing my Vibrant, so i tried some stuff out, and heres how i got it to work. I installed the samsungs driver from here Then just hold the up and down just like how you would normally get the DOwnload screen to start.
Good luck!

New kinda Charging problem:((

everything was fine till now with the charger, lately i have this strange charging problem which goes like this..
previously when we connect the wall/usb charger charging used to start immediately but now it takes time..i need to wait for 45 seconds then the light appears..??
previosly it used to attain 100% charge quickly..but now its slogging??i mean very slow trust me...
responds late to the power n then slow charge??????????????
its the same even when i try with usb and the worst part is it doesn even detect usb connection but charge at slow rate??
any ideas?thanks in advance!!
right now im on cobratos 2.3.4 awesome miui rom!!
So you are using APP2SDcard? You are going to have problems mounting it to USB, if the SDCard is already being used.
For the 45 second thing....I donno....do you have any Task Manager app where you can make sure you don't have like 10+ apps running? Check that. Turn all apps off and then try.

Noo im not using app2sd..the phone gets charged but not able to mount when connected thru usb????

Can you unmount the SDCard under Settings->SDCard and Phone Storage?
If you can unmount it....do that....then plug the phone into a computer (using the original USB cable that came with the phone)
And try using different USB ports or a different computer.
It not charging for 45 seconds after you plug it in would make me want to reflash and start from scratch again. Not a good sign.
That is probably what I would suggest next.
Will try with a different computer and let you no...
apart from 45 seconds delay even the charging process has become very slow:-(
Tried even with different usb ports and computer..no luck
Phones usb socket has gone I guess

Can the computer recognize the phone in flash mode?
If so, try flashing 2.1 with flashtool to fix the problem

What about getting into xrecovery?
You could flash a different ROM with the baseband it matches.

Yea could do that but still the problem persists
Have you tried changing the usb cable? I was convinced my usb port had gone, as it took ages to recognise the charger, and I often had to wiggle the cable where it was plugged into the phone to get it to start charging.
Then I left my cable at home and had to buy a cheap £1 blackberry charge cable from poundland to charge my phone at work - and all problems went away!
After checking the ends of both cables, it looks like the usb pins have become bent inside the small end of the usb cable (mini-usb end).
I'd doublecheck this before doing anything more drastic as it's a simple thing to overlook (well, I did!)
Yep tried with different cables too..i don't think its the problem of usb port too as there is a late recognition ..slow charging but no sd connection

Photon won't charge, reboots, no USB

Well, at just 3 weeks my Photon is dying and will be exchanged this morning. The problems started today when the phone started rebooting on its own several times. When I plug in the charger it doesn't charge at all and when I plug into a USB port I get no indication on the phone and Windows report an unrecognized device. I do have the correct drivers installed and all worked well earlier. I've tried several chargers to no avail. Off to Sprint in the morning! If anyone has any tips on this issue I'm all ears!

I did the OTA update and it worked fine for a few days and I thought about redoing it with RSDLite but, as I mentioned, I have no USB connection now so I can't connect to a PC and, even if I could, the battery is almost dead and can't be charged through the USB port. So I appear to be stuck for now even if I could charge the battery externally. I called Sprint and they authorized an exchange so I think that's probably my only option unless they can fix it while I wait.
looks like a bad micro usb port case.

[Q] won't install software and chagre my vibrant

soo when i plug my phone to connect to my desktop it says it isn't recognized with a code error 43. It wouldn't install the phone and it won't charge while it is plugged in. and when i used my wall plug to try to charge my phone from there it still didn't work. help?
What did you do to make the phone un-responsive?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using xda premium
well it all started as i was upgrading my psu from my desktop and i guess the usb port was loose and when my desktop was put back together the usb i believe wasnt charging and i didn't notice at that time so i left it plugged with my microusb. i come back from eating finding my phone to be really hot like insanely hot and it wont turn on at all ! then i researched and found this thread to put it in download mode and so i did. but somehow i got stuck at the download mode, so i had this crazy idea that if i removed the driver .. it might work and it would install it's software like normal.. i guessed wrong. i turned off my phone since i didnt want to waste batteries. after removing the the driver i noticed that i cant charge my phone at all .. like i have two different chargers and both didnt work, the microusb and wallplug w/o the usb. now my computer won't recognize my device and won't even install at all
I think I just had an aneurysm.
Ow.

Atrix wont charge only seen by PC in RSd or Fastboot mode

I just picked up a used atrix that the owner said wouldn't charge. I swapped a known good battery in it and was able to get it to boot up. Thinking the USB port probably need replaced I looked for damage but could not find any and all the water sensors are fine. It wont charge from AC or from my computer and I have tried with 3 different known good USB cables and 3 different known good wall units that provide at least 5v (2 were official motorola chargers). Oddly enough my computer only detects that the phone is plugged in if the phone is in RSD mode or fastboot mode. I used rsdlite to flash back the 4.5.91 sbf hoping that a factory restore would do some magic but still no charging or mass storage mode identification. Any ideas or do I need to get comfortable with a soldering iron?

same problem here, hopefully someone finds a fix.
For the heck of it i created an active usb cable and re did the auto unlock procedure and flashed epinters latest cm10 build. After boot the charge indicator came on but still didn't appear to be charging. Rebooted into recovery and factory reset then powered it down. I then plugged it into my tablets usb charger that outputs at least 9v and for the first time it went to the charge screen. Now it seems that it's able to charge again finally.

Google it. In a nutshell, an active cable is a cable that has the fifth micro-USB pin (which is normally unused) connected to the (+) pin.
