[Q] how to unbrick samsung galaxy s 2 t989 t-mobile - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

ok so today i finally rooted my samsung galaxy s 2 t 989 from tmobile wich is 2 days old i found an app on google play to unlock my phone and saw that i needed to update the kernel when i was doing it i saw that i said "yes install seyah 3.0 when i clicked it it said "aborted" and after i clicked reboot and then my phone wouldnt turn on please help

Did you have clock work mod flashed?

You can use ODIN to flash stock image. Do a search on google for STOCK ROM GALAXY S 2 T989. You may need to know your kernel however.. I have bricked my Samsung Galaxy S many times. ODIN always saves my ass. If you have clockwork, you can just flash a new rom. Use your PC to download a rom and sideload it. Clockwork Mod has mount and storage so you can mount your SD and sideload rom then flash.

The first step to fixing any problem you have would be to search and post in the appropriate thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1329
Your answer will definitely be found there. Threads are created and maintained to keep everything organized and accessible: if a solution isnt already posted, at least people who actually deal with the phone are there to help: your original post is not a general android question!
Good luck if you havent already fixed your device!

[Q] Question about brick ?

i have a question for you guys what i have not
do for to get a cell phone brick ?
i have read many threads and the only way for to get it is by using application rom manager thats right or i can get a brick cell phone in odin software.
what if by a mistake set files in a wrong order in odin software
galaxy ace cf gingerreal v1.0 kph
thanks in advance
WHY would you put the wrong files in ODIN, just read the tutorial and follow it correctly?
And to kinda answer the question, what've read is that ODIN will not brick you phone, you might be able to get a bootloop though (just reflash and it should work fine).
Read the newbie guide(sticky thread) about Rom manager, it should be supported now but be cautious, better to use CWM app instead, or just reboot your phone to CWM (dont be lazy).
People brick their phone when unlocking their phone, there should be a proper solution that works without having to brick you phone.

[Q] Clockworkmod Recovery for wrong device?

I am using Samsung Galaxy Y [S5360]
rooted recently and tried to get CWM recovery using Rom Manager
to cut long story short I used cwm for Galaxy 5[I5500]
[Q] Can this cause any problem in proper functioning of cwm.
[Q] Seems like everytime I use the hardware buttons to boot into recovery, cwm gets overwritten.. any solution?
P.S. Excuse me if there are any similar questions, I did search..

CWM not suppoted for Galaxy y
From a google search, as of Nov. 19th of 2011 there are only odin flashable roms for your phone. CWM is not supported for your phone. Whether the version that flashed to your phone through RomManager will work or not i cannot say as i don't own a galaxy 'y.' And i can only assume that it could cause an issue. Hope you are able to make friends with a dev and they are able /willing to help you out.. There are also other threads in this forum and others related to your problem. Maybe your could look there. I know of someone trying to get some custom roms on your phone on another forum and they were trying to talk someone through root and getting a back up of the phone's original rom.
I still have under the allotted amount of posts to give you a link but if you just google "custom roms for galaxy y" you should be able to find some decent things. Hope i helped in some way.

[Q] Completely new to rooting

Hello guys! I am completely new to rooting and I am concerned, cause I keep finding guides, but from experience I should always look for something new, and as in updates comes frequently and might mess up old methods of doing stuff. So to start off I'll give you the info of mine.
I got a Samsung Galaxy S ll
Android version: 4.0.4
Baseband version: l9100XXLQ6 (I've seen I need this for kernel...something)
I really want to know what Flashing, Odin and that kind of stuff, what they are! And the reason I am asking, is because I've found a few guides but it's never the same as being explained to, haha.
Is there anyone who can help me? I don't mind reading, as long as its informative and can help me towards getting Cyanogenmod10.
By the way, what are my options for getting the original Jelly bean 4.1 Android software on my phone, when it is relased when my phone is rooted? I'd like to stay "original" but for now I really want to try rooting and experience it!

No. You can still root but in order to stay safe,
1. After Rooting, you must not wipe anything in recovery
or
2. Just flash a custom Kernel immediately (which will even give you better performance and battery backup than the stock kernel). this is the safest way if you actually want to root your phone

But I don't really know how to wipe anything from recovery (I suppose its the recovery mode we're talking about).
What does flash mean.. I interpret it as install a custom kernel. What is battery backup, there is nothing to backup about the battery, is there? lol
And if it's the safest way of rooting I am definitely chosing that one till I know more about this! How do I install Cyanogenmod 10 after this?

1. Yeah, i was talking about recovery mode.
2. Flash/flashing means installing a firmware/ROM, it's similar burning on discs. You can flash kernels, modems, ROMs, firmwares and many other things.
3. Battery backup is how long your phone can be used without charger connected
4. Since you will be installing CM10, it will be better and safer, if you flash a custom kernel.
Please answer these questions:
1. Do you know how to use Odin?
2. Do you know how to use CWM recovery?

Nope! I've seen a few guides where they use Odin, but I always want to be completely sure before I do anything (It's annoying, but its better than ending up having a bricked device) And nope, I don't know how to use CWM recovery, unfortunately! But everything has a beginning!
But if that's your best advice I will follow that!

Ok. Don't worry let's get started.
Let's use recovery method.
First, you need ROOT access. When you are through with ROOTING, let me know.

But I want to install Cyanogenmod10, so it shouldn't be a problem, would it?

(Tmobile) Galaxy S2 won't boot up & Nothing works in recovery.

Hey, Guys I had the CM10 Jelly Bean rom downloaded from Rom Manager (I know I shouldnt have used Rom Manager but too late). The rom was giving me problems of low call volume and mic, Losing signal and some other stuff so someone suggested me to use Dark Side Super Wipe and reinstall the rom. I did and Now the phone won't boot up it stays on the CM screen and the Nothing works in the recovery. I tried back and restore doesnt work, Tried installing super wipe again doesnt work. Reseting phone to factory doesnt work. So basically im stuck. I did my search couldnt find anything similar to my problem so I decided to post here. Next step I was going to take is put it on download mode and flash stock rom with ODIN but before I do that I wana get advice from you experts.
I made a short video describing the problem so please take a look to get a better idea of what im talking about. Unfortunately forums wont let me post the links because i have less than 10 posts so please type the title on youtube with my username

[Q] Problem rooting I9100p galaxy s2!! PLEASE HELP

Hello! Like it says in the title I have a problem with rooting. All I did was to upgrade to official jelly bean. I searched for like 3 days continuously in French, German, English and all I have found was some info about what I should do. So I know that I have to flash a new CWM and that's probably why I can't flash ROMs. I get into Recovery mode, I select "apply update from external storage" and then it says with red : "E:failed to mount /sdcard (No such file or directory)". I found another method, with adb, tried it and failed, it says can't read file or open it, I'm not sure. With odin I tried so much CWMs... I can't number them. None of them worked. So I'm asking you, I'm mad to upgrade my android, to flash cyanogenmod, and I can't. Please help!! And please tell me how I know what version of cwm I need? I mean it's from Baseband- I9100PXXLS8 or Build number-I9100PXXLSQ? Please help! And don't tell me to search please!
How do you not know about philz kernel. Link below... Pls read it and flash what is for you're model and not the i9100.

I'm sorry I didn't know I did this thread duplicated. Maybe I pushed post thread button two times. I'm sorry. About philz kernel I know it, I said I tried so many versions... none of them worked. So tell me how can I know the correct version? What I mean by that is I saw at philz kernel a code like xwlsp or xxlsj. How can I know the code for my phone? Thank you

Thanks I'll try to flash it when I come back to school. My baseband is I9100PXXLS8. I saw some cwms with xwls8. Is there a problem? There says is nothing if is xx or xw it doesn't matter. Is that so?
Baseband is irrelevant because it's the modem. You need the build number, which is the kernel.

Look Peter, do what I did and read up on stuff for a week before you flash anything.Do you realise all the things that can go wrong with the phone.
It will be you that has a phone that doesnt work and how will that affect you?.

Hello. Last night I installed cwm for my phone. IT WORKED!! FINALLY!! Then I flashed the 10.1.3 RC2 CyanogenMod stable ROM and I was a bit scared because the android keyboard was failing continuously and I didn't know why. And then I remembered I flashed the 4.3 gapps. So I downloaded the gapps for 4.2.2 and now all works fine. No problem. SO HAPPY I FINALLY GOT A NEW ROM!! thank you to all guys that helped me. You could kick me out from the beginning but you were good with me i'm new here and i really apreciate that. Thank you!!
NOW look at efs/nand backups...

Thats how it looks now. Really proud about it. Ok but what does those backups do? I mean just do like a normal backupor is something more?
4.2.2? Why not 4.4.2 . It's much better
Bk up efs with ktool from playstore
Nandroid bk up. Make that in cwm recovery. These are a must for you to do tonight.
BTW its free to get ktool so don't skip backing up you're efs. Also take a COPY of that folder and put it on you're PC. Copy... Don't remove it or delete that folder.
