Ok. So I was at work and at the end of my shift I went to unlock my phone and nothing happeneD. I had to hold the power buttllon for like 10 seconds to get the boot screen up. Does anyone else have this problem? I'm on saurom rc4

Do you have a min underclock frequency set? Try increasing it.

This sounds similar to what happened to me yesterday. Was heading to dinner, before I finished getting ready I had my phone start navigating to the restaurant and put it in my pocket. When I got in the car the screen wouldn't wake up from sleep until I pulled the battery and turned the phone back on.

That's what happens to mine except just holding the power button a couple times will reboot it. The n7000 group has the same issues I discovered after a quick google

Mine did that too last night (saturday march 24th) I am wondering if there was an update going on because when It finally turned on (after much panic) a few programs had updated I should mention im on stock rom with no root
Mine has been doing this too. It was fine for 3 weeks, then all of a sudden it started. For me, it will happen very frequently if I use the on demand or lagfree governors (haven't tried others though). If I use smartassv2 it has only happened once in ~2 weeks. In contrast, with on demand, even with a min of 384, it happens within 10-15 locks every time now. Crazy because I ran on demand with 192 min for ~3 weeks without a single hiccup, but now it can't go 10 minutes without the sleep of death if I use those same settings. FWIW I'm on stock rom, Da G OC kernel version 0.2 now (0.1 was when 192 min was stable with on demand, though no positive the version numbers are related?). Smartassv2 seems to all but solve the issue for me, but it's not the best for battery because it runs full clock or deep sleep only, there is no in between. I really don't know the best way to try to solve the issue. I'm just staying on smartass for now. It's really a big deal for me because I use the phone as my alarm, and if it decides to do a sleep of death overnight, the alarm doesn't go off, and I won't wake up for work...
Hi, this happen to me before on my white note. I been to 3 att notes so far. First it was very laggy and screen was not that bright. i was getting 1800 in quadrant even on clean install. Took it to att store and they compare to their demos and they gave me a new one. My new white was awesome, screen was perfect and i was getting quadrant scores of 3400 almost close to my international Note which is sold for the LTE. Then after 1 week i started getting the sleep of death. it hapeen 2 times a day and then it got worse to 20 times a day. no matter what i do, stock room no app for 2 days same thing after a day it will start doing it again. I took it to att store swapped for new one. It has been 2 weeks an no screen of death, but again my phone is laggy on this new one and the screen is a bit bright, not as bright as the previous one. If you compare brightness between note ATT and note international on full brightness, the international version is beautiful on vivid colors. You can see the difference right away. it is a huge difference. I guess att disable the screen mode for vivid color on ATT note. Take it to a store and get a new one.
Oh one of the att reps on the store told me one customer had a similar issue and it was related to the sd card. He said they replace his phone 2 times and at third phone it happen again and they told him to remove the sd card and it fix itself. Now that is not the case for me. I still using my same 32GB Scandisk sd card and no sleep of death.

I've had my note for almost two weeks now. This afternoon, I was using it as I always do, mostly mail, some web stuff and music - thus no extended gaming, etc to overheat the GPU.
I put it in my pocket, removed it several minutes later and it was completely dead - and I couldn't even turn it back on. It wasn't banged around or anything, and there was at least 50% charge in the battery. I opened the back, removed and replaced the battery. Still nothing. I tried again about 20 minutes later, and it powered up as normal. And it has been since.
Is this weirdness that happens occasionally to current gen android phones? Anyone else have similar issues? Should I try to exchange it?

thats odd. is it stock? if not, you should list everything you did to the phone. If you had it overclocked, maybe it overheated and shut down so as not to fry the chips?
Yeah, all's still stock. I've not even rooted yet.
Same thing happened to me with a skyrocket that I had. Except I did have it rooted running sky ics rom. And I had it plugged into the charger. So...maybe not quite the same thing...sorry. lol
I just went to the store and swapped it out for a new one. No questions asked within 30 days.

Just happend to me, after testing out the mhl adapter at my parents place i restarted the phone. Then once all was booted up i put it to sleep to make the drive home only 15 min away i did notice the the phone was hot in my pocket but screen wasnt on. Pulled out my phone and it didnt turn on. I pluged in the the usb and it powered up normal.
Well its a new toy, they will have bugs and they will fix them. So far so good. I did get the juice defender app, seams to be.working.out.great went all day and still had 75% power when I got home.

My phone does get warm from time to time (on the back right below the camera lens), though I didn't notice it before the crash. Is this heat normal?
Only thing i did have is a random reboot once...thats about it.
Galaxy Note
My only odd experience is after unplayable Asphalt 6HD for a little while, and phone does get warm. After I close the game I get nothing. Blank screen and take a few minutes to come back to life and when it does it as if it went through a soft reboot.

UPDATE - problem has not gone away. It seems to be (at least partially) related to a malformed battery contact. Exchanging for a new one tomorrow.
I'm a light user throughout the day. Charged my phone to 100% before I left for work today. On my way home, I used my phone a lot. I visited websites that had a lot of content. I was pinching and zooming and the phone crashed/restarted on me. Same thing happen 10 minutes later. I was using the phone for about 20 minutes non stop prior to this to happening. The phone was in the upper 50s (56%-59%). The phone was getting noticeably warm on the back cover, but not to point where it was burning hot.
This doesn't happen to me during my lunch when I use the phone non-stop for a full hour. My phone is stock, not rooted. Had for about 1 1/2 week now.
I am having an issue with my MoPho severely overheating and shutting off. But strangely it only seems to happen when I am outside. The first time I noticed it was when I went fishing. My phone had about 80% charge, and when I picked it up maybe 30 mins later is was scorching hot. To the point that it burnt me. And it had shut off. I didn't have it in the sun or anything. It was in the shade inside a bag. I was not able to get it to turn on even with a battery pull even after it had cooled down. The battery completely drained in a matter of minutes. I couldn't even get it to charge in the truck on the car charger, either. It got too hot on the charger to the point it wouldn't even get a charge. This has happened about 3 or 4 times since. It will go from a full battery, get super hot, and completely drain within minutes. This never used to happen in the house, it was only an issue outside. until today. Went fishing, phone had full charge. It managed to hold the battery for a couple hours, unlike the other times, but eventually got hot and died. Then when I got home, plugged it into the charger and went to sleep, woke up a couple hours later and it was burning hot, and had no charge. Other things on it are acting weird now, as well. The screen keeps turning on and off every few seconds by itself. I don't know what the issue is, but I might have to switch back to stock if I can't find a solution. Because eventually this is going to fry my phone. And I don't want that to happen. It is also a huge inconvenience for your phone battery to drain in a matter of minutes and become a useless paperweight when you are in the middle of nowhere and need a form of communication in an emergency.
Has anyone else had this issue and found a solution?

Many people have experienced overheating problems on our cm9. Some people including self have fixed it by just doing a fresh install of cm9 as it seems like just a fluke. Im sure the fact that were running a gingerbread kernel on ics doesnt help. Also, try dropping the battery down to 1200 from the stock 1300, see if that helps.

Someone mentioned changing the overclock from the stock 1300 down to 1000 in another thread. Is that the same thing as what you're talking about? Or is there a separate setting for the battery? I did try dropping it down to 1000 but that's when the screen started turning on and off by itself. And LWP's stopped working properly. They would get stuck and seizure. Even after I changed it back to the default 1300. So I went into CWM and just reflashed the ROM. No more screen turning on and off or LWP's acting weird. But as far as the overheating problem I can't be sure I guess until I go fishing again or put it in another situation in which it's done it previously.

I work outside every day and its bout 100 degrees out consistantly now... I'm not running cm9 anymore but I've noticed I still get the occasional overheat while its in my pocket, it most definitely gets annoying sometimes having to pull the battery and let everything cool down but I think the benefits outweigh the annoyance level a million to one. I guess what I'm saying is you're not alone friend, it definitely happens to me as well. I have my CPU set to 1k though and messed around with undervolting as well and feel like I get a little better results this way. Keep playing with your settings until you find the one that works best for you is the advice I can give. Good luck!

Yeah its the same thing. Remember, our processor is technicallynot supposed to be over 1000 per core for a reason. People just like to push things to the edge. The whole lwp problem is expected and everyone experiences this with the our ice roms. That also is due to lack of proper 2d libs. But I'm glad most of your problems have subsided. Run your processor at 1000 and I'm sure the overheating will lessen. On a powerful dualcore phone like the photon 1300 from 1000 is miniscule anyway.

Alright. I will try it again. But I just love my LWP's =[ I always have a lwp on. I have never experienced the problem with the lwps until I set the processor to 1000. But I guess it comes down to sacrificing my wallpaper to stop it from overheating. If that's what it takes to fix the problem. Hopefully once the stable version is released everything will work like it should without having to sacrifice anything.
It did overheat again the other day. I did have Watchdog on my phone and I was on facebook messenger the other morning and it started acting up, I had my phone in my hand and within a couple minutes it got burning hot, and then right after, Watchdog popped up with a notification that messenger was above threshhold. It was running at 49% CPU or something. And come to think of it I would always get notifications about fb messenger "misbehaving". So I came to the conclusion that it could be either messenger or watchdog causing most of my problems. I deleted watchdog to see if it fixes my problems. I'm hoping it isn't messenger. Because I need my FB. lol. But I haven't really used messenger on my phone since I deleted watchdog. So we'll see. If that didn't solve it, then I will sacfrifice my lwp and set the processor back to 1000.

Fb messenger gets a lot of hate, i cant say thats your problem but you never know. Try out a chat client called imo from the play store instead. It supports fb as well as others and is leaps and bounds better than fb messenger.

Thank you. I will definitely try that =] Thank you. I really hope it fixes the problem. I can't wait for the stable release. haha
I don't know what causes this but earlier my phone got stupid hot. To the point where it was uncomfortable to hold and when I opened up system tuner I realized that the CPU was at a toasty 155°F (forgot a screen cap cuz I was in freak mode haha) but then I looked up a little and noticed that out of the blue without any interaction on my part, the min clock speed was bumped up to a little over 1ghz. No clue how it happened. My phone was a reasonable temp all day before that and hadnt even opened system tuner till my phone was roasting so why the min clock changed I don't know but figured I'd share because I saw a while back a thread of people saying their evos went frying pan mode and had to be shut off to cool it.
Here a what I did (from what I recall) prior:
1.Had it sleeping in my pocket for an hour
2.Sent a few texts
3.Slept in my pocket a little while more
4.Turned on 3g and tethered for 10minutes (phone was still cool)
5.Turned off tether and 3g and threw my phone on the charger till it was 100%
6.Tethered again (had a 5out of 6 bar 3g signal) and within about 10min of tether with it off the charger the temps spiked as well did the clock speed? (Also for both tether sessions I only checked xda and engadget on my laptop, no videos)
If it happens again I'll take screen caps and see if I can pin point it. Anyone else have this happen to them?
P.s. I'm running flex 1.74 with kernel it comes with and none of those CPU offline/online mods. This happened 2 or 3 times since I got the phone in early june. 1time stock and idk what I ran the other times. Didn't notice the clock speed change till today tho.
**DISCUSS** haha

I am not sure why, but my S4 shuts down during Geek Bench 2. I have to pull the battery for a few minutes to get it to boot back up. Is anyone else having this issue? It does not seem to have any other issues, it does fine with other benchmark software. Also the device seems very warm to the touch when playing games or even on a call.
ROM - Beans Build 5
Kernel - Stock
Anyone?
Yep, it just shut down on me as well. Very strange...
I'm not running Beans though, I'm running Hyperdrive.
I would contact the app developer. The dev may not have added compatibility for SCH-I545 yet, and should definitely give you a refund.
As for the heat, I'm getting that too. Whenever it gets too hot, I shut it down for a while. Maybe get a CPU tweaker, add a profile for when your phone gets too hot, such as a Max CPU of <800 MHz when temp is over 45 C. That should keep it cool.
Same
I get the same, The heat happens all the time for me(even when playing angry birds). Its more of a OS thing I think, touchwiz can not control its self.

Ok so I took my S4 back, got a new one and it did the same thing. The heat is so uncomfortable, I took the second back for a full refund (Verizon Charged me a restocking fee them bastards) I cannot deal with a hot phone in my hand and on my ear, my Note 2 runs great and never gets warm to the touch, I think I am going to hold out for the Note 3. Thanks everyone for the responses.
Hello, just wanted to post here and see if anyone else was having similar experiences with their phone.
So I have the ATT Mega, and it has been working fine for a little over a month now from when I first got it, love the phone. Last week or so, I noticed the battery would seem to drain much faster then usual and the back top part of the phone, where the camera lens is, would heat up very badly even when not using it.
I tried killing apps, restarting, nothing seemed to work. I checked the app manager and the battery stats, nothing out of the ordinary but the drain was there and the heat was so bad you really didnt want to hold it.
I contacted ATT and they sent me a replacement which I received last night. I turned it on and was trying it out and within minutes that phone started heating up in the same spot too.
They didnt send me a new battery because oddly enough the battery or that entire area in the back would not get hot at all, only the top half.
I contact them again today and they said they would send me a battery to try but I am scared it will not work again.
I also have a 64gb SD card that I use, but it is the same one I have used in my Note 2 and now this phone with no problem. I am currently using a Note 3 with the same SD and have no issues.
I would love to go back to my Mega though, I actually prefer it to my Note 3 but I am worried about this issue reoccuring or not getting fixed in the first place. Anyone else have anything similar to this with their Mega??
Mike
I have noticed it gets warm, but only when streaming videos. Just browsing the web or listening to music/iheartradio, nothing gets uncomfortable. I just notice the warmth after many minutes of streaming. Not uncomfortable either. Now I do have a case on it, so maybe that's why it doesn't seem as bad.
I have an i9205, but it's basically identical hardware. I've never had any overheating issues of any kind. Recently I've been running the "performance" CPU governor too, which locks the CPU at 1.7ghz constantly and yet I've never been able to make the phone throttle itself back.
Thanks for the responses! I am having ATT ship me a replacement battery to try that, hopefully it arrives today. I just dont understand why it would heat up so badly on both my original phone and their replacement one for me. I would think it has to be the battery or the SD card, but the card has no issues in my Note 3 and it didnt have problems in my original Mega for a month.
Crossing my fingers that it is just the battery so I can go back to using my Mega, I miss it -.-
I noticed my Mega getting warm in the same location last night, but didn't have battery drain. This is a replacement Mega since I bricked my pervious one, but never had that problem with that phone. Today, after being fully charged and not used while at work, I checked my phone and it was 15% and warm. So I turned off WiFi, GPS, and Bluetooth and plugged it in a 1 amp charger, 13% and still warm after a few minutes. Airplane mode, 12% and still warm after a few minutes. Turned the phone off and charging for an hour, phone is cool and 37% (makes since). Phone has been on, charging, and WiFi, GPS, and Bluetooth turned off for 43 minutes, phone is cool and 56%. Now I'm turning WiFi, GPS, and Bluetooth on individually to see if it repeats. I'll keep you posted on my results.
Thanks! I will wait to see your results!
Ive no issue with mine...
Well, sorry to say, it's been almost a month of me playing with this phone trying to duplicate my one time overheating with no luck. I've WiFi streamed for hours, transfered huge files over BT, viewed videos, and anything else I can think of with nothing. Maybe it was a fluke...who knows.
