[Q] No signal on CM9 (HydrogenICS) - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

As the topic says, I just installed HydrogenICS ROM which is based on CM9 (right?) and I can only make emergency calls. I'm connected to my carrier (bottom of statusbar shows the carrier's name) and I have good signal, but it's grey. Data isn't working either, obviously.
I think this issue is CM-related, because I remember trying out MIUI based on CM7 a few months ago and I left it because of this problem. I tried out a lot of modems back then... none worked. Maybe CM's properties/settings/whatever blocks my carrier's used frequencies? I googled a bit and found out it might be something with the RIL and that I have to flash an appropriate RIL... I have no idea what RIL means though, could this be it?
Some info...
Baseband: XXLPQ
Kernel: 3.0.25-CM
Mod: HyDrOG3N-ICS 25.3.12
If it's realted, from "About Phone" -> "Status":
Mobile network type: HSDPA:9
Mobile network state: Disconnected
Help please! I really like CM9 and Hydrogen I don't wanna go back to sammy...

I had the same problem yesterday after updating from HyDrOG3N-ICS 23.03 to HyDrOG3N-ICS 25.03.
I reverted back to HyDrOG3N-ICS 23.03 (restored a backup). Even after restoring the backup I had the same problem.
What I did to fix it:
dialpad - *#*#4636#*#* -> Phone Information -> Turn off radio. Wait 5 minutes. Turn the radio on again.
Rebooted the device and it was still the same.
I then waited 20 minutes and rebooted again.
After the 2nd reboot everything came right and is working well.
I know it probably doesn't make sense, but it worked for me.
I have read somewhere in the HyDrOG3N-ICS thread about APNs not being picked up etc and someone suggested leaving the phone for 15 minutes after updating and then rebooting.
Think this might be similar issue.
Let me know if this works for you. I would like to update to HyDrOG3N-ICS 25.03 again.

[Q] Baseband understanding

My basic understanding is that the baseband is like the firmware that makes the radio in your phone work (calls, mobile internet, wifi etc) right? But that is where my knowledge ends.
Just recently the mobile internet on my streak stopped working. The indicator for mobile internet still shows in the notification bar but any attempts to reach a web site or other connection just times out and fails. Wifi still works perfectly. It's not an issue with the carrier as I have never had to set anything up it has just worked out of the box each time I have updated anything. In any case for info my network is 3uk.
Now I have dropped this phone a few times, admittedly this could be what has caused the damage. On the other hand something might have become corrupted.
So assuming something might have got corrupted I'm thinking it could be the baseband but as I don't know much about them I'm not sure.
I have used QDL tool many times and had various versions of streakdroid on my streak. I have just about mastered the recover/restore/install procedure however in my ignorance you might say I have not learned much about basebands. I always try to learn the things I need as I go along and till now have not had to worry.
Here's the dumb questions I need answers to:
Do basebands come with each build of android? I mean rom downloads either official or streakdroid. I got the impression they did but not sure. I normally use streakdroid since v1.5.1
If they don't come with the roms where can I download an up to date baseband to see if it will fix my problem?
So far I have used QDL tool using the guide on streakdroid. Following that I install streakmod then use that to install streakdroid 1.9.0
Should I try installing any other rom?
Any other suggestions or tips of how I could get my mobile internet working?
Thanks in advance for any help!!
Have you looked at your APN settings?
Select Settings>Wireless & Networks>Mobile networks>Access Point Names
(might not be the exact name of the menus) but i know its under Wireless & Networks. Might need to reset the APN to default or search and reselect it.
Hi Thanks for the reply.
Yes I have tried to do the search to reselect it but it just searches for a long time as if its hung. Reset to default didn't change anything. (3 three.co.uk stayed putt)
Also I have completely reset my phone to factory default and back to latest streakdroid a few times. In the past I've not had to touch APN it just works after installing whatever rom.
I think I've already tried the most obvious things.
Would flashing the latest baseband help? Assuming it doesn't already come with the latest streakdroid. If it does then its looking like I am screwed unless there is anything else I could look at??
HELP!
Have you tried your USIM in another phone. 3 may have blocked your Internet access as you are using a non-3 phone.
What does your about screen say for your baseband version and stuff?
Baseband version
GAUSB1A130500-EU
Regarding "non-3 phone" I hope thats not the case. I've never had an actual "3 phone" I always use unlocked phone's. Prior to this one an omnia and prior to that a k850i neither of which are 3 phones. I will try the sim in another phone see what happens now. Let you know.
IT IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED TO UPDATE TO THE BELOW BASEBAND FOR 1.5.1+
Baseband File Download:
Primary Download Site: http://downloads.streakdroid.com/djsteve/amss.mbn
Mirror 1: http://mirror2.streakdroid.com/amss.mbn
I guess u missed this part when flashing 1.9. The recommended baseband for 1.9 is 318.
Delltech you are right I did overlook that. However going back to your last point that 3 may have blocked my internet access. I think your right!! I just tried my sim in another phone and that can't connect to the internet.
Anything I can do if they have blocked my internet??
Call them and speak to tech support, they've got a bunch of cool techies who'll sort it out right away.
Will do.... Thanks!

[Q] Urgent! Data Won't Work on Any Rom, Even Stock!

Hi,
I recently acquired this galaxy S after my HD2 stopped functioning. When I got it, it had Cynaogenmod on it; however, I wanted MIUI. So, I reverted the phone to stock configurations and loaded MIUI on there.
I used the methods posted in this thread and loaded the revamped SS-6 MIUI rom (I tried all the way up to SS-8). I later found that this was an outdated method and used the suggestions made by the rom creator. Both times I loaded the OS successfully. Unfortunately, the data wasn't working. It showed that I was connected and had full bars with 3G or H connection... but all apps that required data still failed to connect.
I always got a message saying "Data connectivity problem: Server failed to communicate. Please try again later." So, I reverted the phone back to stock JFD using ODIN. I still have the data issue -- nothing connects. The bars are still full and the 3G symbol is still there... it just won't work.
The phone info is:
Model Number: SGH-T959
Firmware Version: 2.1-update 1
Baseband Version: T959UVJFD
Kernel Version: 2.6.29
Build Number: ECLAIR
The "Mobile Network Type" reads "HSDPA" and the "Mobile Network State" reads "connected".
Just to clarify, I can still text and call. I just have no data. Wifi works. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated; I'm completely stumped here. Thanks!
You saw the answer in the other thread, right?
Nope, I've been looking for an answer. Is there a thread that has a solution?
The one titled: "Miui completely ignores Data settings". It's a problem with the latest MIUI.
Check out the second post in the GingerZen thread. Follow the steps and ODIN using Eugene's Froyo That Does Not Brick. It should give you a fresh start. As a bonus, it re-roots your phone in the process. Note: only check re-partition for the second flash.
Awesome! Thanks, I'll try it. So, I just use the PIT file that comes with vibrant AIO?
You could grab the one from s15274n's "Noob Guide" too.
Then save all 3 files on your desktop for the next time you have to ODIN.

Your APN settings are screwed up. You'll need to reset your APN settings. Do not go flashing random software to fix your APN settings.
Hey, thanks for the suggestion. I followed the steps, but I'm still experiencing the data failure. :-\
I expected that to restore all settings. Google the correct APN settings as suggested. Hope that's it.
(But keep the EFTDNB files handy. They aren't exactly random and will usually get you out of a bind.)
I'm pretty sure I have the correct APN settings. At least, they seem to match what everyone else has posted. I noticed that the arrows around the data symbol (3G or H) only light up on the left side. This to me seems to show that I'm sending data; I'm just not receiving it.
Edit: Solution Found! It was on T-Mobile's end. Apparently, the data package from my HD2 was not compatible with this device. So, they set me up with the "Android equivalent" and "presto!", it works. Thanks for all the assistance!

[Q] No network with various Roms

Goodday,
Since this morning i got no network with some roms.
Simplistic RC7 i9100XXKI3 No connection
WanamLite V8.4 i9100XXLPB Connection
Cyanogen 02012012 i9100XXLPB Connection
Thebyani Rom V2.0_ICS i9100XXLPB No connection
Andyx 5.2 i9100XXLPB Connection
WIUI_v4_2_2_10_b2 i9100XXLPB Connection
I always use Simplistic RC7 and never had any problems with it, until this morning.
Yesterday i flashed another rom but didn't like it alot so i reflashed Simplistic RC7.(after the whipe) and since this morning i cant get any network anymore.
i thought it maybe was the Baseband version, but after flashing various roms i noticed that the version isn't a problem. (andy and thebyani use the same)
Mobile network state is disconnected atm, but i can see everything else(like IMEI)
Is there anything more i can do/test to get the above roms working again?
Thank you in advance,
Edit: I found out what was wrong. It seems that with the roms i didnt got any network, the APN was not configured.
does anyone has any idea why this happens?

Same answer as always you have wrong CSC on your phone and have not entered settings for your network manually .
Multiple rom flashing does not fix problems .
jje
Thanks for the answer i will look into it today,(going to install xwkk5 stock or XEN)
And i forgot to mention that when i enter it manually it works
But when i use some other roms i do get a network connection and i find that abit strange :S

[Help] XWLPD] internet issues?

Hello,
Right to start my story.
I updated my phone through KIES up to the latest firmware.
Baseband - XXLPW
kernel : XWLPD
Android : 4.0.3
Worked fine. Figured I wanted root back. Flashed CF-root XX-NEE-LPD v.5.5 Kernel onto it from chainfires topic. Everything seemed to work fine except mobile internet. Wifi works fine, but it wont for the love of it, connect to mobile internet. The icon is just not there and everything says its not connected when Wifi is turned off.
So i flashed the Stock Kernel back to it from the Stock kernel / firmware thread.
At this point it still won't connect to Mobile Internet. However Wifi works fine. Which is great and all, but I really would like to use the internet in non wifi able areas. Like work.
So I flashed the complete XEN Stock package (mine is unbranded) for the netherlands. and Still no Mobile internet.
I added the access points for Rabo Mobiel each time with every setting from there website. But it wont connect. Data transfer mode is turned on so that is not the issue.
What could be causing this issue? and How do I fix it?
Syr.

Try flashing just the modem again or flash another modem.
I think I have isolated the issue. I went and took a gamble and flashed an old official Gingerbread Firmware I still had stored away on the pc.
When I went back in to add my phone providers internet settings etc, it had 3 options and connection type. Internet, Internet+MMS and just MMS. I noticed my ICS earlier did not have those options and just had a blank space where one could type.
So No I am going to upgrade back to ICS using Kies Once again, if it is still a blank space one can fill in that clearly its an issue with the XEN Samsung ICS firmware. In that case ill just mod CM9 on it and see if I can get it to work in that. If not...back to gingerbread I go
Well I found out how to fix it -.-
Appearently with ICS comes a new APN setting in which the type of accespoint is no longer Just Internet, MMS or a Internet + MMS.
To get it to connect to the internet one has to type in default instead.
Oh well. This can be locked.

Modem issues after update to ShoStock2 4.1.1

Hi, I'm rather new around here so I hope I am following all of the rules. If not feel free to move / delete this.
I have been running Shoman's ShoStock2 ROM on my SGH-I777 for some time.
After the latest update to 4.1.1, my data connection does not work. On the about phone display, it shows mobile network status = online (I forget the exact word" and directly below that it says network state = disconnected. It does show a mac and ip address.
I thought "no problem, i'll just go back to my cwm backup from before I updated."
I tried all of the backups I have for the last month (making sure to wipe factory data and cache first) and no joy.
I then also tried installing the UCLE5 modem.zip file from the modems thread and that did not help either.
My latest attempt to resolve this, I wiped factory data/cache and re-installed 4.1.1
I now have under about Phone -> Status
Network: AT&T
Signal Strength -91 dBm 11 asu
Mobile network type HSDPA:9
Service State = In Service
Roaming = Not roaming
Mobile Network State = Connecting
IP address = seems to be a valid IP
Serial Number = 00000000000 (not sure if this is good or not?)
Any thoughts?
Samsung Galaxy SII (SGH-I777) ATT
Androiv Version 4.0.4
Baseband Version I777UCLE5
Kernel Version 3.0.38 DreamKernel-I777-v3.2.9TWRP+
BUild Number: XWLPT-SHOstock2 v4.1.1
Networks state will show as disconnected if you're on wifi. Try shutting off your wifi and see what happens
I'm afraid i don't have a good answer, otter than to say that the lack of a serial number is not the issue. There is another thread that suggests that the lack of a serial number seems to be a prevalent problem for many people (including myself) after upgrading to ICS, on several ROMs, but none of these people are experiencing connectivity problems. So, the serial number issue is almost certainly not related to your lack of connectivity. Other than that I'm afraid I'm not nearly knowledgeable enough to even attempt to give a solution.
Separately, this question should have been posted in the Shostock2 threads, either the one in the development forum or the Shostock2 faq thread.

WIth Wifi Off- Network State = Connecting for about 10 seconds and then disconnected and serial number = unknown.
Service state still = In service

What does it do if you toggle airplane mode on/off?
If doing that doesn't give you some sort of connectivity I wouldn't rule out a hardware issue with your antenna. In that case I'd flash back to stock and contact att for warranty service.
Lmk if the toggling does something.
Service state will usually stay 'in service' because the phone is still connected to the network for calls and sms

Thanks for the suggestions. I flashed back to "bone stock" and then did the normal update through Kies. I now have 4G connectivity with no issues. Guess I'll flash root and Shostock 4.1.1 again and see what happens
Yes I am a glutton for punishment but I really love the ShoStock ROM and after 5 minutes, HATE AT&Ts version of 4.0.3
I can't post in the Shostock thread yet as I am too new, if any of this information is useful, maybe someone will put it over there.
Big Thanks to Shoman for the ROM
Glad you got it fixed.
You might wanna also consider flashing a different kernel. I know some are having wifi connectivity issues with the included skyfire kernel on 4.1.1.
Oh and make sure you don't wipe with the at&t stock kernel as it contains the emmc bug

I flashed to stock following the thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1313659
Then updated via Kies just to see if the 4G would work.
If it does the same thing, perhaps I'll give another kernel a try.
I'm still in the realm of noob to all of this so I'm just reading as much as I can on here.
Many thanks for the advice and info

Yeah if you updated to ics via kies then wiping could potentially hard brick your phone. Just flash a known good kernel and you should be safe.

I'm also very much a noob and in my short time here I've seen lots of us noobs who just don't read or do any research whatsoever. Gives us a bad rep. I'm happy to see a fellow noob who did the research and set a great example for the rest of us to follow.
Glad to hear you got it solved!
