You might have problems with both.

Thank you for old firmware patches.

New firmware / Old firmware question

Just got a Rezound. I'm unlocked, rooted the stock ROM (newest OTA). This is considered old firmware correct? And by firmware, that is referencing the hboot?
New firmware is an updated hboot?
Thanks for any info...
Yes you're correct. Firmware meaning hboot and radios.

Thank you!
So updating visa the ICS leak updated these firmwares yes? Now some devs are offering old firmware solutions?

Update firmware. They still come loaded with gb
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using Tapatalk 2
doesn't need to be updated, just remember to flash an old firmware patch before you boot.
GB ruu it. While they may not notice if it has ics or gb, you're better off being safe than sorry.

You don't 'need' to do anything. However, if it is just out of the box I would recommend this : http://themikmik.com/showthread.php?13780-STEPS-TO-ICS-FIRMWARE-UNLOCK-ROOT-and-S-OFF
The tutorial takes through update of the firmware to unlocking/root to s-off and then whatever you desire after. :good:
At the minimum, I would update the firmware by running the RUU, and then unlocking. Don't unlock first because you'll just have to relock to run the RUU!
As a previous poster commented, you don't have to update the firmware, but I bet you will eventually so get er done now.
There are other tutorials/"all in ones" out there so look and read around.

FWIW, just activated a warranty replacement yesterday. My specific steps were:
1. Unlock bootloader
2. Flash Amon Ra and do nandroid.
3. Flash 3.14.605.10 firmware & ICS leak from bootloader as PH98IMH.ZIP.
4. Run Juopunut's S-OFF
5. Reflash Amon Ra
6. Flash my ROM (see sig).
I also flash Titanium as a zip, and use App2zip. Not everything works when I do things that way, but it takes me most of the way home.

Reboot issues

So, I recently S-OFF my rezound and rooted it etc. I seem to be getting constant rebooting everytime I turn the screen on to use the phone. So, when i wake the phone and unlock it and start to dial a number for example it reboots. ANy ideas on what's wrong? Thanks!
also i notice it only happens on sense roms. Only sense 4.0 tested though
Sounds like you are on old firmware. You may need the old firmware patch. What firmware are you on? Here it is if you need it. Flash in recovery after Rom

Try a sense 3.6 ROM. If the problem sticks then try the ICS RUU

So just flash a 3.6 rom and it should fix it? I tried flashing the file above but still a no go. Only rom that works with out it rebooting is asop. Currently on miui. Gonna try that though.

you deffinitely have to upgrade your firmware with the ota ruu or the global leak ruu! here is the ota .12 one
here is the global one http://bit.ly/TRMmvF
Ya.... If I remember correctly those are gb radios. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. Either way those are some old azz radios.... I would update to the latest global leak so you can flash anything without issue.

Rooting Official Stock ICS Without Wiping Data?

Does anyone happen to know if there will likely be a method of rooting a stock ICS OTA install without wiping data? I never got around to rooting GB on the Thunderbolt but would like to do so on ICS.
Not yet. I think the revolutionary unlock method can be done without wipin data but there is a new locked hboot and they are working to make an exploit.

Is that due to the overall lack of developer support due to the device's age or for some other reason?

And to add.... and the last rom Revolutionary tool could root and patch hboot with was 2.11.605.5. It didn't work with 2.11.605.9 or 2.11.605.19.

That is because there was no interest in finding an exploit for those since a downgrade to 605.5 was possible took run the exploit. Maybe if downgrade was possible with the new ota the old revolutionary method could be used.

That is the unknown. Can you downgrade from the ICS OTA to the older version? How dangerous is that for someone to test?

This simply adds the Talkback feature, correct? So if I don't need that I shouldn't bother until the Sense 5/4.2.2 update?
I need only the OTA package.

none that I can see other than it's updated, for all we know it could contain security updates, patched exploits, ect... I really don't know enough about bootloaders to really see what each different one has, unless you know how to read HTC's object code, im not sure anyone other than HTC knows what is contained in each release...

So no new radio, one feature? I am on engineering build (hboot) and want NO part of any hboot change. Was hoping for something significant.
Thanks

Question, with what is in the OTA, if someone who has S-OFF through Moonshine and root (but not a custom recovery) were to take it, would there be any issues?

I am on engineering hboot, rage Rom, and phone said I have an update and after deferring it made me choose a date. I froze "updater" but am not sure that will stop the update. How do I ensure no update occurs short of switching roms? Also, will it try to update from VZW side anyway now?
