I have noted that several folks have the same problem that I have... rear camera is no longer functioning, green "static" screen, front facing camera works
Have read that folks think it is a loose connection and it is not a software issue. I have all current firmware updates and have done factory reset. Now I have a RMA to return it for repair but I wonder if anyone has removed the back and has tried reseating the camera connection? I read a great thread about removing the back (at your own risk) .
Anyone try fixing the camera by removing the back and messing with the connection? thanks for your thoughts

I returned mine. I had the problem crop up once earlier in the month. A reboot fixed it. But last week, it went completely green with interference like static. A reboot failed to recover as did a factory reset.
Asus recommended I return for repair. So, I'm guessing it is a loose connection. It makes sense. Better to have Asus do the repair/fix than me.
I am trying to avoid the return.. Seems like more folks are reporting rear camera issues..
I will keep hoping it is firmware and hope for an OTA solution or a take it apart/do it yourself solution. I am holding off for a little while before I return. thanks

I tried to downgrade to an older stock rom, but after flashing I couldn't delete the cache since the power button does not work in recovery mode either. As a result, I wasn't able to set up the new rom because the Google apps continuously crashed effectively preventing it. Eventually, I was forced to use my jig to enter download mode in order to re-flash the original troublesome rom just to at least have a working phone discounting the power button. I do not believe this is a hardware issue due to the fact that the button was working prior to the upgrade, and received no trauma afterward.
I have spent numerous hours searching these forums for hints as to what the problem might be, but I have had no luck and only found band-aid key remapping fixes. Can anyone offer any insight as to what the problem might be?

The only thing I can think of would be to take apart the rear shell and see if the power button works without the plastic clicker.

I considered doing that, but I don't think I have a tool that is appropriate for wedging between the front and the back of phone without damaging it.

You can just use a credit card. Just make sure whatever you use is plastic to avoid scratches.
This guy has a good video for how to disassemble the phone. FYI a plastic butter knife works great for taking the cover off.

If you find that the button won't work even after taking it apart (that's what happened to my wife's phone) this place will do a repair for $40.

Personally I didn't really see the point in spending $40 for a repair when I could just root it and throw AOKP on it and enable the option to wake the phone with the volume rocker. Only issue I ran into is that the stock kernel's CWM wasn't touch enabled so needed to put AJK's on it first.

Thank you for the guide.
Part of the problem was that I can't wipe the cache after flashing a different rom since the power button doesn't work even in recovery mode. I finally had a chance to open it up a few days ago and even pressing the button without the cover on did nothing. It seems that the button failing after the update was HUGELY coincidental because it now inexplicably work, although not perfectly. It seems that it is a hardware issue after all, so I may attempt to fix it if I have time. .
I've read a few posts here with similar problems but the solutions (if any) haven't worked for me.
My wifi started to switch off intermittently. The "switch" icon in Settings would move across to the "ON" position but would then move right back to "OFF". Then after several hours the wifi would magically work again. Now it has stopped working altogether. I tried going back to GB including wiping data and cache then went forward to JB 4.1.2. No luck. I even tried GS2ROMNuke in between and Siyah kernel. I'm now back where it all started with WanamLite Clean & Fast & Pure Stock Themed 4.1.2
I opened the phone and checked for internal battery leakage but there was only a tiny amount and that was still on the battery itself, none on the circuit board.
At this stage I have just about given up. Has anyone managed to recover from this situation?
Of course it happened just 3 months out of warranty

Hey bro, sorry to hear about your problem. Have you tried testing the Wi-fi after installing a new ROM without updating or changing the stock kernel?

I think I have... not 100% sure though. Might go back to stock and try again though. Such a PITA... I was going to upgrade to a Note 3 and pass this S2 on to a family member. :crying:
Success!
I'm sorry to resurrect a long dead thread.
I just wanted to let you know I finally fixed my wifi issue. The problem was (as in many cases) the battery near the wifi chip, leaking. Although I had previously opened the phone and cleaned the PCB with isopropyl alcohol, I hadn't noticed that the track between one of the resistors and the wifi chip, had been eroded. I scratched some of the covering off the track and tried to measure continuity to one side of the resistor but got an open circuit. After clumsily soldering a piece of fine wire from the resistor to the scratched piece of track, wifi was restored.
I really can't believe it. I had previously inspected the board close up and thought that no erosion had taken place. But now after taking some time (and some beer) I found the fault.
Some feedback for Samsung... you *****es! How can you fit such a weakness to, what was, your flagship phone? This issue has hit so many users. I have read many many posts here and on other forums complaining about wifi problems with the SGS 2. Unfortunately for me this fault occurred when I was a few weeks out of my 2 year warranty
This was not an easy soldering job. I am fairly good at fine soldering but attaching a wire to a SMD resistor so small was really difficult. It may come off in the future but at least I now what and where the fault is now.
Once again, sorry to resurrect the old thread.
FYI the resistor that was affected was the one that sits by itself at right angles to the other 4. Unfortunately it is nearest the battery.
I've been having a problem with my phone. I recently had the motherboard and screen replaced by HTC. I'm now running MeanBean, and the camera will not start. It started working after I did a factory reset, but it stopped working again now. Is this a hardware issue?
I tried updating to the 4.3 camera apk, but I get the message, "Unable to connect to Camera" when using that application. Is it possible the cable to the camera is loose?
Update again. I took the phone apart and reconnected the ribbon cables for the camera. Maybe they weren't seated correctly. My Void sticker fell off after opening the cover after getting my phone back from repairs. So I had nothing to lose by taking the phone apart... Plus, I don't feel like waiting another month for them to fix it anyway. So I'm glad this worked (for now). I'll try and update in a few weeks if it is or isn't working still.
Well that didn't last long. Once again, can't connect to the camera.
My only suggestion would be to contact HTC. They usually have a warranty period on their work
I was afraid of that, haha. They took so long the first time. I had an EVO 3D I bought for a temp phone, but the service was so terrible on that, I would rather not go back to it for another month.
Hi all,
I got the problem that opening the camera is rebooting the device.
I tried to restore the TA-Patition with BackupTA. It went all good an I could boot, but when I open the camera, the device reboots.
Can somone help, please?
ps: I´m on kitkat SGP321_10.1.1.A.1.307_Unbranded and tried LP too...but the same happens...no matter what firmware I try.
SOLVED
Maybe its helpful to post a sollution on this.
It seems I dropped the device, I dont know exactly but I thougt maybe a cable was disconnected. I searched and read here at xda that some people had the same issue with cam and could not solve it via upgrading, downgrading..ect...the backside needs to be opend to connect the cable from camera again,
I simply punched a few times against the back and the side...and voila...camera works again.
its often that after fall cable that connects camera or power button gets loose and doesn't work, pushing hard on back on the side usually helps, but not all the time.
I'm preparing my Nexus 9 16GB WiFi for resale. Its front and rear camera don't work, and neither does the flash LED.
I first noticed the issue a while ago. I can't remember when. I tried some suggestions offered on XDA but:
- different apps don't solve the issue;
- flushing the device caches doesn't solve the issue and
- flushing the app cache doesn't solve the issue.
I think it was suggested I do a complete factory reset, wipe everything and reflash but I didn't feel like the hassle of setting everything back up, so I just let it be.
I'm not sure whether the front and the back camera and the flash LED all stopped working at the same time or one by one over time.
In preparation for resale I've returned the Nexus 9 from LineageOS 14.1 (regularly updated) to stock Android Nougat (N9F27M) and Marshmallow (MOB30W) and back to Nougat (N9F27M). The cameras and flash do not function on any of those operating systems, either.
I've looked inside and both cameras seem to be seated correctly.
Is this a known issue? Is there a software solution?
In the end it turned out to be a problem with the motherboard. I had replaced the USB mini-board when it began to charge slowly, presumably due to a worn out connector. It seems that when I pushed the replacement board into the plastic brackets which are meant to keep the board in its place, a small corner of the USB board broke and bent.
It required a good look to spot the defect. Bending it back into place restored camera and flash function, confirming the break is the cause.
