[Q] accessing fastboot on Motorola atrix 4g - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Alright i know that i should do research in the forums before i post, but i guess im not turning up the right posts.
I would like to know how i can access my fastboot so i can fastboot erase and start from scratch with CM9.
i am rooted.
i know to hold power and volume down button until fastboot comes up, then volume up button.
what do i go and do then...

Well first you need to make sure you have fastboot setup on your computer. You can learn how to do that here. Once you have that setup just plugin your phone through usb to your computer and boot into fastboot. Then just open a command prompt and type fastboot whatevercommandyouwanttouse

Start with the following N00B guide. Read it 3 times before you do anything!
Everything you need to get you going is in that thread.

Also, just want to let you know you can use moto-fastboot: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1138092
This is an Motorola-specific version of fastboot that has more features.

Doesn't have more features. The moto-fastboot version allows you to flash larger file sizes, as this is the main limitation with regular fastboot.

[Q] How to use CWM recovery

Hi i do not know how to use CWM recovery i followed this:
how to install:
Windows:
unzip recovery-en-goapk.zip to D:\
open a CMD in windows.
fastboot flash recovery D:\recovery-en-goapk.img
fasboot reboot
I do that above but how do i get it to work.Once i reboot it goes back to the start screen. Any help would be greatly appreciated. sorry for the N00B question!
Step 1, Search the forum.
But to help u out, on startup hold down "volume down" until u see fastboot in top corner. Then release and press it again a few times until it says recovery instead. Then press " volume up".

Actually the goapk part of that terminal command should be install tenfars cwm on your phone assuming you did download it? Then you would click the new in your list of apps labeled system recovery I believe. There are extremely easy instructions once the app opens.
Also read the forums first, there's a 100 articles\q&a about this subject

The recovery that uses an app isn't what he is talking about, the one he is referring too isn't an app and doesn't require your ATRIX to be plugged in at all. It's flashed with fastboot. Wish I had a link for you. If you read the comments on tenfar thread there are many people with the same issue( I was one of them ) there is alot of info but its sure to help you in your process

Refer to LokiFish post everything moto in the dev section.. It can be found here..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1393519
All of the info you need about unlocking can be found in the unlocking methods thread posted..
I suggest before you continue hap-hazardly that you copy and paste posts into a document... Then keep scrolling through the posts in the thread and keep adding important usefull posts to the document.. Having everything clear and concise will help and prevent you from searching in circles trying to get this done..
Good luck and RTFF...

Yes. Try going to YouTube and watching qbking77 video tutorial. It will walk you through...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BwRjFrzClBs&feature=youtube_gdata_player
If you follow qbking77's video for installing CWM later, dont try to root your phone the way he has shown in the video. Ie. By downloading system.rar and flashing it using RSDLite. Use the one click root method or using his method in the video will break your wifi.

Same thing happened to me and as somebody else has stated, it's normal. As long as you get the "Unlocked" message in the top left, you're good to go.
now for some reason my command prompt is giving me moto-fastboot is not recognized as an internal or external command. yes i have the sdk installed
You have to open the command prompt from the directory that fastboot.exe is in, if you are running windows 7 you can shift + right click the folder and you will have an option to "open command window here"

Hard brick. Done deal!
Try a warranty return or buy a new phone.
You specifically said in your op that you had a hard brick. Think really carefully about this... what does hard brick mean?
And there's your answer. Looks like its time for you to shop for a new phone. Next time use search, and dont make a topic "just to be sure" when there's almost literally a million topics confirming what you're asking.
failed to boot hard brick SOLVED!!!!!!
People on here shouldnt give up so easily, I have a solution for failed to boot brick.

Annnnnd, you will find out the reason we call it a HARD brick, it will NOT enter fastboot mode, or RSD or anything else other than Nvflash.
I'm going to come across rude, but if you have no idea, don't post rubbish.
And you should read my post; I got into fastboot mode by holding volume up and Power while inserting the battery. Using my method WILL restore your phone from the failure to boot error, as I did the same thing and Im now restored. I used moto fastboot to restore in fastboot mode.

Yes we read your post! IT DOES NOT WORK. That works with no brick or a SOFTBRICK not a hard one...
Understood.....that would mean that 0x1000 is obviously not a hard brick then. It seems to me that some of the confusion comes from a lack of properly identifying the brick status. I too got that message from accidentally attempting to flash and older file over a newer one. I used the method I described to restore my phone. Try for yourself; if it works then cool. If not then not. All Im trying to do is give insight on a common problem I encountered and how i fixed it. This site is supposed to be the best in the mobile world, I wish people would spend less time trying to be rude and insulting and more time trying to help. And thank you Alaq for helping clarify and acknowledging that my method could help some people.
Imean, at the end of the day, XDA is supposed to be a help and support site, right?

0x1000 shows up in both hard and soft bricks... It's what it says under it that separates the two, you obviously didn't read, and you confused yourself... I didn't want to be rude, sorry...
@OP the best you can do is sell it, it sells on ebay for around 100$ if it's good condition, but you have to state that it is hardbricked... Or you can donate it to a well known developer to help try to solve it...
Ignore this post, posted in error. Sorry.
Wow, lots of negativity here. I'm shocked anyone would want to help people here.
One wrong mistake and bam, insults flying everywhere.
Btw, next time, use the search feature, you would've found an answer faster.

Not negativity or insults. OP got their answer right away. I gave the OP the answer in post #3!
What we had once again was someone giving the wrong advice, and then when corrected, continued to give the wrong advice.
thank you all for your help, but unfortunately could not arrange a HardBrick, SoftBrick if the fix in the end sold the team and acquired another.

Don't know why are some peolpe saying that it doesn't work.... it works like a charm! I flashed a worng SBF file, had the boot error, followed this tutorial and had my phone back Thanks a Million Times
My experience with mcjinx216's fix procedure was entirely _positive_. I was able to unlock and to install the boot image. I was _not_ able to install the system image which returned a "file too large" indication; however when I executed "fastboot reboot" the Atrix rebooted to the setup screen!
I now have Android version 2.3.4 build 4.5.1 on the Atrix, so it is possible that the system image actually installed during the fastboot routine. I have forgotten the version which was installed before the crash.
The entire problem arose out of an attempt to install ICS on the Atrix during the course of which the Atrix failed to reboot and returned the error "failed to boot 1". I was unable to reflash the stock sbf file. RSD simply failed, even though it recognized that the Atrix was connected. I was stumped.
I cannot thank mcjinx216 enough. Great post and recommended for brickees.
I should point out that you must be careful with the syntax in fastboot. Be sure that fastboot executes and that you follow the displayed instructions carefully. I could not get mcjinx216's syntax to work so I just used e.g. "fastboot flash boot boot.img" without the "moto-" prefix.
I think we will have some good news about fixing the Atrix Hard Brick with the Riff Box. I read at other forum that the team had some major steps towards the jtag flash fix.

[Flashing][recovery] 4ext recovery + instructions

this guide is for peole who jus cant get s-off or just need the 4ext recovery but cant get it because of bootloops etc
this gude also assumes u have installed have android sdk to the root of your computers C: driv
1. Head to http://www.htcdev.com/ruu/PG8610000_...2fs_unlock.exe
2. Follow the steps to unlock your device. Then, reboot into Fastboot.
(by pressing the power button on your phone and you should see Fastboot USB. If you don't, just press the power button when Fastboot is highlighted.)
it's time to push a recovery.img.
1. Download http://animeondroid.host22.com/recovery.img = Thanks 4ext team.
2. Once that is downloaded, place the recovery.img into your adb location (at C:\Program Files (x86)\Android\android-sdk\platform-tools).
Now if you're not using a 64-bit OS then you won't need the ' (x86).'
3. Okay. once the .img is in there then use the command prompt.
cd C:\Program Files (x86)\Android\android-sdk\platform-tools
4. Press Enter. This will change the directory to your adb location.
5. Now power your phone into fastboot in the bootloader once again. Just hook your phone up to the usb and then go into the bootloader and press power after it loads. You should see Fastboot USB.
6. Type in:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
If you're recovery img isn't named this, then rename it to recovery.img, it's easiest ^>^
7. Then hit enter and the phone will be flashed with the recovery.
8.Boot into recovery and enable smartflash so tht even though youre s-on you can flash any rom/kernal
EDIT: tell the recovery that your device is actually s-on by turning smart flash on
This is done when you install recovery and answer the question that you are s-on with "yes"
You can also change that setting later on via RecoveryControl -> Recovery settings, or by editing 4ext.prop manually
Recovery will autodetect any changes done to "boot" and only attempt to flash your boot partition if it was really changed
for me incase of updates or broken inks
Also rawr im a dinosaur tht is all XD
I just bought the app lol

Also note that he links directly to th 4EXT website for the download of that recovery instead of some third party site. The recovery.img file for 4EXT is also available in the OP of the thread for that recovery here on the E3D Development Forum.

In your adb folder press shift + right click and open the command prompt window from there and try that. Try a different USB port?

Saw and tried both with no better results. I ended up using the recovery flashable zip in santod's closed thread without any problems. I know it's not the full RUU, but whatevs for now. Thanks though!
