Rooting rezound: help - HTC Rezound

I am looking for the least risky method for rooting my Rezound. I came to the Rezound from the HTC EVO. I took the risk of rooting my EVO and succesfully did, but I was prepared to go get a new phone if I had bricked it. Now with the Rezound, I am afraid of rooting for fear of bricking my brand new device. Can someone point me to what they think is the safest method of rooting and things I should be aware of when rooting? Is there anything specific to the Rezound that makes rooting risky?

This is a thread with a root tool that you can't mess up. Just take your time and read the steps and ask questions if your confused its basicly the same as rooting the evo only difference is no s-off so we can't flash radios. kernels and IMG.zips require one or two more steps bricking is hard so don't worry to much. If you want to use ICS I recommend upgrading to the new firmware nut you don't have to if you just want to root your stock Rom the tool I shown you does that to. Other wise look around in the dev section at some of the roms find one you like and flash in recovery just like the evo. Only diff is you will go into the bootloader to flash a unsecured kernel wich isn't hard

[Q] unlocked my evo 3d via htc method... screwed or not? That is the question...

How do I achieve s-off? Can I revese HTC unlock method? Is there a thread or answer available? I'm not a complete noob at rooting but got excited and didn't read thoroughly before committing to the HTC process. Started sifting through threads and haven't discovered an answer yet... Please help
I've been trying to sift through them as well just out of curiosity. Here is what I have gleaned from all of the threads on this subject:
1) Unless you previously had s-off through revolutionary, the HTC method will not give you or currently allow you to get s-off
2) Although the HTC method does unlock the boot loader, other things are still locked preventing you from flashing a custom recovery.
3) Currently there is no way to root or get super user access once you've applied the HTC method
4) Currently there is no way to undo the HTC method.
Probably not what you wanted to hear but that is my understanding as it is currently. That doesn't mean that a Dev won't figure out how to allow you to do those things in the next few days or weeks. You'll just have to keep checking.
Thank you, maybe ill just "lose" my phone and get it replaced
I would wait a week or so. Someone will probably figure it out.
Try this thread. Apparently this version of CWM recovery will work with the 1.50 hboot.

I think if you search other threads you'll see that it only works if you have previously had s-off.

There you go! That didn't take long at all. Now you don't have to "lose" your phone.
thank you
I really appreciate the info... I'll check it out tonight and let you all know how it goes. This is my absolute favorite forum bar none. By the way, I was being facetious when I made the statement about "losing" my phone... laugh every once in a while! I did when I basically noobed my own phone.

Question about the installation method for honeycomb

How long do you guys think it will be before there is a method as simple as just flashing a honeycomb rom without having to do the method in the development section?
I really want honeycomb but i'm not sure the risk of bricking is worth it. i LOVE my flyer and would be devastated if i bricked it!
Just curious as to what you guys think.

Whatever method is used, it will still likely require the flashing of the HC HBoot and radio, so your risk of brickage is probably about the same regardless.

Dave
Think what trips most people up is the usage of adb. I was having problems with my laptop recognizing my flyer when I was I hboot, so I couldn't get past the 1st step. :/ I only had a short time to mess with before I had to leave on business. My question is, I've flashed radios, kernels and tons on my Incredible and Thunderbolt, without using adb... I'm assuming that the same could be done, if the files were named correctly? (Pimgblah)
Well I would say I'm very familiar with adb, but I was still reluctant. (i went ahead and did it anyway ) and I'm incredibly glad I did. But answering your question, you don't only use adb in the guide. You also use fastboot. So I'm sure there is some difference there or something (i'm no expert) .

Unlocked Evo 3d and ICS Update...when it arrives lol

Hi, i have unlocked my Evo 3D using HTCDEV.com. I was wondering if it will be ok and safe to do the ICS OTA update when it arrives? Also could someone please advise me on my next steps to root my Evo 3D so i can use custom roms etc. All i have managed to do is up to yet is unlock my handset using HTCDEV.com, but i am unsure what further steps i need to take to root my device as there are so many different view and topics on the subject and it all gets a little confusing as what to do next. My HBoot is 1.49.0018, and i really dont know what to do next, so could someone be so kind as to advice on what further steps are required.........Thank-you for any help offered.
You might already have done this but just to make sure.
Did you flash a recovery.img?
I wouldn't bother, there will undoubtedly be a pre-rooted, cwm flashable version available within a day of the update landing.

Don't know if it will update the hboot but I suggest you downgrade and s-off it, if there is any method available for gsm...
And to flash a ROM, you don't need to be rooted. Just flash a custom recovery.img like 4ext, twrp, cwm. Then flash any ROM that you like. Almost every ROM here comes with super user. So after flashing a custom ROM made by a Dev , you will be rooted. If you want to root your stock ROM and don't want to flash custom roms for now, just flash a custom recovery first, then go to recovery flash this zip if you want SuperSU by Chainfire----------> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1538053
OR
this one if you want Superuser by ChainsDD---->

The second one might not work...
@iTzLOLtrain......I haven't flashed a recovery.img as of yet because i am unsure of the software to use buddy. If you could advise on which software you think is the best then i am more than keen to have a shot. This is my first time ever with android and i am really scared of 'bricking' my handset. I was under the impression if i wanted to install custom roms that i would have to root my device first?
@mnomaanw......Hi bud, i have tried the links you posted but i just get a 404 page not found error.........Cheers

Oops sorry....should work now.
Next step is to flash a custom recovery like 4ext which has no issues at all and then flash your su file this is how you obtain root access after this you flash a custom Rom

Ahhhh, I remember my first time. Do an awful lot of searching and reading. Once you feel like you can't get anymore info on a subject, then try it. You may have an issue, which most people on here will help u with when ask. If you came from that fruity company, you should be very happy with what Mr. Android and his developers can do.

New DNA with Questions

I hope I posted this in the rigth section, if I didnt I appologize. So, I used to have an HTC Thunderbolt and yesterday I upgraded to the DNA and I love it. But I do have a few questions. See I want to root it, but I dont want to have to hassle with all the custom ROM stuff again. Plus all I really see a need for me is to have root access. So I did do some looking and came across these links

Im still a little new to the rooting scene and just want to make sure I know what im doing before I do it. So here are my questions.
1) If I root will I still be able to install the OTA updates that come on my phone?
2) Are the two links above both rooting methods, just different ways of doing it?
3) If yes to 2, is there a current "best" way to root the DNA?
4) If I decide to un-root, is there a way to do that? (im sure there is and a guide even)
I think that is all the questions I have for now. Thank you very much and keep up the great work here.

Follow the first link you posted because in order to unlock the bootloader you need the super CID hack then after you do the super CID hack go to the htcdev.com page and follow those instructions and then either flash a rooted rom or the Subusybox.zip to get root
To un-root simply lock the bootloader and run the RUU file

1) In short, no. To get the ota you'll have to install the stock recovery, and maybe relock, etc, etc. The easiest way is just to flash a rom based off the ota
2)Yes, but the second links to a thread which then in turn links to the first thread you in posted. Just use the first link you posted
3)See #2
4)ruu and fastboot oem lock, if your s off then its a little more complicated, but you will be able to be 100% stock as opposed to 99%

Thank you guys very much for that info. I greatly appreciate it. One last question for now. I have seen the term "S-off" a few times, what exactly is that?

It means that the Security Flags have been turned OFF (S-OFF) and it allows you to write unsigned.img's and do other stuff to parts of the device that with Security ON you wouldn't be able too such as writing to the boot partition while in recovery, flash radios to the radio partition

[Q] ???s rooting, new dna

I am finally deciding to upgrade my TB to the DNA. It has been out a while, so I figure any bugs are worked out. I have a few questions...
1. What is the easiest rooting app / procedure for the DNA? and where can it be found?, and also, the reversibility of the rooting process should be considered, in the event that it needs to be unrooted for a return or warranty
2. Does the rooting process include the S-Off, or is that a separate procedure?, or is it event necessary?
3. A couple of the places where I read about rooting the DNA state that you need to flash either CWM or TWRP...is the 4EXT considered an acceptable recovery for the DNA rooting procedure? How would it be loaded in the rooting / flashing procedure?
4. I'm partial to Virus's and Santod's Eternity ROMs for the TB over at Infected, and have been using them for two years now; is there one out there close enough that I would be happy with, comparing it to Eternity?
Any and all information that you would be able to provide and point me to would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.
I'll be doing the same shortly. If I get to it before you I'll let you know what I did?

Rumrunner is the S-off and unlock method. Since htcdev blocked unlocking this device, we get both in one.
Reverting s-off unlock is simple and has instructions in a thread, will find and edit post with link soon.
CWM and TWRP are the only two custom recoveries that I know of.
I don't have experience with those roms to give you insight.
Edit: s-off to complete stock thread:
