[Q] Entropy's UCKK6 System Package VS. Odin one click UCKH7 - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-I777

Howdy fellas,
I'm trying to root my stock SGS2 with 2.3.6 - UCKK6. I cannot find "Odin3 One-Click Downloader Stock I-777 UCKH7 with Root no BL" DL link that works. Is there another location besides multi/mega and rootzwiki? Also, as this will downgrade my phone and I'll have to wipe, I was looking into Entropys system package to flash via Odin. I have the package but the UCKH7 modem.bin DL link is also broken.
First, do I even have to flash the modem.bin file as its UCKH7? If so, does anyone know where I can find it? Second, is Entropy's system package method the preferred method for me? I just want root no custom ROM and no flash counter trip would be great too. This is all so confusing it has taken me days just to get to this immature comprehension level. That being said I appreciate any feedback.

As far as I know, all links in my guides and the Download Repository are working. See links in my signature. You should be able to find whatever you decide to use.
The UCKH7 and UCKK6 modems are different. Either one will work with both UCKH7 and UCKK6 systems. The modems are in the Download Repository as well.
If you flash anything containing the stock kernel, whether UCKH7 or UCKK6, you will not increment the flash counter. The only thing that increments the flash counter is flashing a custom kernel with Odin or Heimdall.

Excellent. Got the package and the modem through your download repository! For the UCKH7 package I noticed you say to flash package and modem separately in PDA. I was going to flash package in PDA and modem in PHONE so I'm glad you directed me here...Should I flash separately with the UCKK6 package/modem in PDA or simultaneously in PDA+PHONE? And good to know about the flash counter. Thank you so much for the help. I mean that.

Firmware and modem are both flashed in the PDA slot. Flash separately. You can flash both at the same time if they are packaged into the same tar.

Got the KK6 tar from your download repository. If I use ODIN to flash this, do I need to flash the KK6 modem too? Will this allow me to avoid a factory reset/wipe?

Look in settings | about phone to see what you baseband version is currently, as that is the modem. If you already have I777UCKK6, then no point in flashing it again. You can use whatever modem works best for you in your area.
If you're on UCKK6 and you flash UCKK6, you should be fine without a wipe.

Makes sense, but just wanted to be sure. Thanks.

Worked for me!

Hey guys, i am NEw and confused just like that first guy who posted this, but i am getting hang of it too now.
so ya i got sgs2 running on 2.3.6 with this uckk6 kernal what should i download so i can get this rooted started up? i know the steps once i get all the RIGHT files download, just need someone to get me RIGHT method
thanks!!!

Here is what I did...Im not sure if I did everything right but it worked. I have the at&t sg2 I777 build UCKK6.
- download odin v1.85, UCKK6 system package, and modem.bin from creepyncrawlys download repository.
- extract UCKK6 to a .tar file.
- run odin
- turn on USB debugging on gs2 ( not sure if this was necessary but i did it ) then power down phone.
- connect your turned off phone via usb cable
- hold down volume up and volume down keys until screen comes on
- press volume up to select/enter download mode
- odin status will go from green to yellow
- load .tar into PDA slot
- press start/go/whatever
- phone will reboot. some recovery screen came up and i selected reboot..
then i repeated these steps to flash UCKK6 modem.bin in same PDA slot. not sure if i had to do that or not but I did and I have root and phone works great!

after flashing the UCKK6 system package, do i still need to flash the modem for UCKK6.
i haven't started yet, but right now it reads baseband version i777uckk6
if i need to, where can i find the modem.bin file for UCKK6?

Flash baseband but not ROM?

Hi,
I am with AT&T in the US and recently bought the Galaxy S2. My device happens to be a French version. My firmware is
PDA: KG1 / PHONE: KG1 / CSC: KG2 (XEF). It's 2.3.3.
I'm not happy with my HSPA+ data connection. While streaming online radio in moving car, it would cut out and constantly buffer. Seems like the data stream is not reconnecting quickly enough whenever there's handoff. This has never happened in my old webOS Pre Plus. The streaming on the same route that I drive daily on the Pre Plus was never an issue.
I don't want to mess with flashing to a different ROM (yet), but is it possible to just replace/flash the baseband only? Perhaps I can try the official ATT baseband? I did a search and am overwhelmed with the amount of info on XDA. I appreciate you help. Thank you.

You will need to root it to be able to install different modems using CWM recovery or you can use Odin to do it with out root if you can find modem packaged for Odin, as for the AT&T modem while it will work okay for data your call quality will be terrible so it is not really an option for an international version SGS2.
jhernand1102 - Thanks for your quick reply! I've done some flashing before on other devices, so I'm not totally unfamiliar with the process. So it is possible to install a different modem without completely flashing to a different ROM? I see that you're in the US. Can you suggest a modem? What do you use?

Yes, it is possible to flash another modem file to your phone.
The easiest way of doing so is to flash it as zip file via CWM.
But you can also flash the modem.bin file (extract the zip file first) via Odin (in PHONE section).
Here are two links to the latest modem files:
1. => http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1277593&highlight=Modem+XXKI3
But you need CWM to flash this Modem zip files.
2. => http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=17967764&postcount=5
Same here, but you can extract the Modem.bin file out of the zip file and flash it using (Phone section in) Odin.
Good luck!

Thanks It_ler. I think your links were truncated, and as a result, it's not coming up. I have Odin on my computer. In your view, is it better to use Odin or CWM?
JackTheMan18 - I don't have issues with voice calls on ATT, but it's the HSPA+ connection when streaming is what I'm not happy about.

Sorry about the truncated links - now repaired.
Searched myself in this forum and while copying&pasting ... something went wrong.
I don't have a personal prefer ... Odin or CWM ?!
If your phone is rooted and you already have CWM, it is the easiest way to flash modem zip file using CWM.
As I am running on CF-Root kernel which has installed CWM Manager app, I would flash the modem zip file using CWM.
But normally, I choose my ROM and modem and CSC before flashing ... and then I flash all the files I want together at once via Odin.
So, it's up to you !

It_ler - Thank you so much! You've been incredibly helpful! Since you are so knowledgeable, I hope you might be able to answer this follow up question. As I indicated, I'm stuck on the French 2.3.3 ROM.
1. Can I just flash a 2.3.4 or 2.3.5 stock ROM without rooting but using ODIN? Will that be a clean wipe or will it just upgrade and keep all my app and settings?
2. Will doing so prevent Kies from offering me future updates? I don't care about CSC, in fact, half the French customizations on my unit don't work here in the US. My first SGS2 unit that was defective was an UK version (I assume so because it came installed with the BBC app).
3. What's a good stock ROM to put on?
You are awesome!

I thought that you already knew about the basics, but here they are:
a) To get familiar with flashing ROMs / kernels / etc., find official firmwares, stock kernels, etc. and to learn the "manual" rooting method, read the first post of Intratech's thread => http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278.
Official firmwares are in the second post, and Frankenstein versions (which can be combined with any other modem and/or CSC) are in the third post.
Every ROM is non-wipe - except Intratech has explicitly written that it is a "wipe" version.
Flashing is by using Odin and does not require root.
But Intratech has added a Quick Rooting Guide, just in case you need it.
b) To find the easiest way of rooting, please stick to Chainfire's CF-Root thread => http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399&highlight=CF+Root.
There you learn to root your phone and get ClockWorkMod (CWM) Manager app with CWM recovery mode, system backup&recovery feature, flashing other kernels and zip files, etc..
Nothing to bother. I just flashed CF-Root kernel because it is so easy and I wanted to be able to backup my system.
Now I can answer your questions:
1. Yes, stick to Intratech's description and use a non-wipe ROM to flash using Odin (PDA section).
2. As KIES will only recognize and update official/stock ROMs available in/for your region, flashing any other ROM or kernel will prevent KIES from doing so.
But I don't care too. Flashing with Odin is very easy, fast and as stable as the ROM you are flashing.
I stick to the official/stock ROMs provided by Intratech - they have always doing fine for me.
3. I recommend the latest Frankenstein ROM, which is actually XWKJ1 (which I am running now).
It is Android 2.3.5, good balance between performance and battery life, excellent modem (XXKI3) and you can combine it with any other modem or CSC for your region and/or provider.
Just put this ROM in PDA, your modem in PHONE and your CSC in CSC section of Odin and flash all at once.
If you will find the descriptions and/or files helpful, please remember to push the Thanks button for Intratech and Chainfire, as they both do a great job for all of us.
Wow! It_ler - thank you for all the great info! Just a quick question. Does XWKJ1 have any issues. For example, does google video chat still work?

I did not recognize any issue yet.
But Google Talk is without Video chat.
You can replace it with a leaked Talk app with Video chat enabled.
Just have a look here => http://www.redmondpie.com/how-to-install-google-talk-1.3-with-video-chat-on-any-android-phone-root-only/
But you have to use CWM recovery mode to install it.
I did not use ROM-Manager as described, I used CWM Manager (of CF-Root) to install it.
Please remember to wipe cache partition and dalvik cache as described.
And make a system backup before ... Just in case ...
Good luck!

I was able to install XXKI3 radio. It didn't make a difference. Turns out that I needed to disable fast dormancy. The data connection seems more stable. I will have to test it out further on Monday. In regards to Frankensteinrom XWKJ1, is it already rooted?
If I discover problem on my end with that Frankensteinrom, can I flash back to official ROM without wipe? Thanks!

Neither official nor Frankenstein versions are rooted.
If you want to Root, follow the instructions of Intratech or Chainfire to do so.
You can flash back to an Official ROM.
If you want to flash without wipe, you have to use a non-wipe version.
So, no problem with most of the versions from Intratech's thread.

[Q] Entropy's 12/21 kernel and rooting from UCKK6

I've been reading all over about rooting my S2. I think I understand well enough to comfortably proceed. Unfortunately (or so I gather), I upgraded OTA to 2.3.6. Apparently we don't have much available yet that works for rooting from this update - with UKK6.
Reading through Entropy's kernel progress, it looks like his might be a possibility. Being a noob, I can't post this question directly in his thread, so I'll post it here...
Should I be able to root successfully from version 2.3.6, UCKK6, kernel 2.6.35.7 using Entropy's 1221 kernel?
If there's some other way I'd be better off accomplishing this, please let me know.
Thanks
Take a look in the [GUIDE]How to Flash Custom Binaries Without Ever Incrementing the Flash Counter!! thread. Specifically, it seems that only 2c works ...
2c.) How to root by flashing Entropy512's Return/Unbrick to Stock, Kernel + Rooted System Package with Modem using Odin3 One-Click Downloader (Windows)
Download the "Odin3 One-Click Downloader Stock I-777 UCKH7 with Root no BL" package from MultiUpload or MegaUpload. Extract the contents of the zip file to a directory on your hard disk drive. This is a One-Click version of Entropy512's Return/Unbrick to Stock, Kernel + Rooted System Package plus stock modem from the development forum. (Contains stock zImage, factoryfs.img with root, and modem.bin.)
Start the Odin3 One-Click Downloader program by double clicking on "I777UCKH7 OCD Root No BL.exe".
Now Enter Download Mode:
With the phone powered off, plug in the usb cable while holding the vol up + vol down buttons (but not the power button).
When the warning screen appears, press Volume up to continue into download mode.
In Odin, the small edit box in the upper left corner will turn yellow, and say something like [0:COM8].
Click Start. Watch the progress bar advance in green while the message box in the lower area describes the steps. When the flash is finished, the top left larger edit box will turn green and say PASS! and your phone will automatically reboot.
Unplug the usb cable from you phone after it boots up. Success. You're Rooted.

It depends on what your long term goal is.
If you want stock UCKK6 rooted, and you plan to stay on that, then the best path is to flash UCKH7 Return/Unbrick to stock plus root, and then with wifi on, check for updates. Allow the OTA update to install, and the phone will retain root on fully stock UCKK6.
If you plan to install a custom ROM, then you can follow the above method to avoid tripping the flash counter, or you can use odin to install a ClockworkMod enabled kernel, such as Entropy's or Codeworx, and then directly flash the ROM.
My goal...
Well, I don't plan on staying with UCKK6 once ICS becomes available, but that might be beyond the scope of this.
I want a rooted, close to stock, kernel, mainly for tethering. I think the additions of CWM backup and the ability to overclock/underclock & improve performance and battery life would be nice too. At this point I don't plan on loading a custom ROM, but who knows?
Probably then DD 12/21 is your best option.
Another option (if you don't want to trip the flash counter):
Update to KK6 to get the kernel.
Flash the prerooted system image in vladm7's thread for UCKK6 in the General forum using Heimdall or Odin. (or was it vlara's thread - one of them prepared the image, the other one posted the thread).
Sometime in a week or so I'm going to prep a UCKK6 return-to-stock package - basically the Odin One-Click minus bootloaders.

I think this is vladm7's UCKK6 thread that Entropy512 is referring to:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1381497
For others searching for the same solution.
vlara's system partition dump with superuser embedded download contains the file "system.img". It is not a tar, so I made an odin flashable tar with it, and tried to flash it, but the flash attempt failed immediately. I don't know if the system.img is faulty, or if it could be flashed with Heimdall.
Halfway there...

I completed your 2.c. process to root back to 2.3.4 UCKH7, but now my WiFi isn't working. Should I just flash Entropy's DD kernel with the WiFi fixes, or do the OTA without WiFi (will that trip a counter since I already had 2.3.6?)?
Thanks.

There is no reason your wifi should fail on UCKH7 stock plus root. Did you do a wipe data/factory reset in recovery? If not, do that first and then reconnect to your wifi to see if it is working. It should.
The wipe data/factory reset in recovery worked to restore wifi functionality.
I was smart enough to backup a bunch of stuff with Titanium - worked great.
Is it normal to have to re-do your widgets after a wipe/reset or did I miss something that would have backed them up? The widgets were there, but empty. I just had to re-apply them.
These phones just get cooler the more you dig into them.
Hey guys. I have an over the air update available for the 2.3.6 and I accidentally pressed cancel and it says I have to wait another 20 hours to try again. Is there a way around this or am I stuck.
(PS. I rooted the phone and I'm on stock kernel so I should be fine in terms of keeping root)

Yes, that's normal.
Okay, I know WiFi was working last night. This morning it stopped working again. It starts, searches, and shuts down, like it was doing before the restore. I don't want to have to keep doing that. Would installing Entropy's 12/21 DD possibly fix it?
Don't know. Best I can say is try it and see.
Did using 1221 on the latest stock work? If I just flash the kernel I won't get root will I? That's the other part I need to extract from the vladm7 stuff?
@mattsmc2
What are you trying to do? Are you wanting to root the UCKK6 update?
Basically, I would not mind running the kernel as well since it supposed to save on battery.

NEVERMIND, I did not realize this kernel made CWM available...
If you want something close to stock install gtg's custom ROM unNamed 2.2.1. If you already have CWM then just flash the full install. It is basically stock with more features(including free portable hotspot/tethering) and better performance. I wanted the same thing as you OP and am also new to android and I couldn't be happier with unnamed.

[Q] Flashing back to stock after using CF-root

First off my phone specs are...
SGS2 on the 3/Vodafone network Australia
P-Code is GT-I9100LKJHUT
Model number GT-I9100T
Android Version 2.3.5
Baseband Version I9100TDUKJ1
Kernal Version 2.6.35.7-I9100TDUKJ1-CL687461
[email protected] #2
Build Number Gingerbread.DUKJ1
*#1234# returns...
PDA: I9100TDUKJ1
Phone: I9100TDUKJ1
CSC: I9100THUTKJ1
Build Info: Wed Oct 26 13:30:25 KST 2011
I've flashed with this... CF-Root-SGS2_XW_LUX_KJ1-v5.0-CWM5.tar ...to get root and all seems fine, the above specs remain the same except of course the kernel version which is now... 2.6.35.7-I9100XWKJ1-CL647431 [email protected] #2.
I used Checkfus to get this matching stock rom... I9100TDUKJ1_I9100THUTKJ1_I9100TDUKJ1_HOME.tar.md5 ... i'm guessing it's a full rom because the size is almost a gig unpacked. What i'd like to know is if i want to go back to stock kernel can i just pull the particular file (zImage? please correct me if i'm wrong) out of the rom (if thats even possible) and put it in a .tar file to use in Odin or, can i just point the PDA section of Odin to the full stock rom file and let it sort out what it needs and hope it just flashes the kernel, thanks for any help.
You just use the .tar.md5 inside the rar file, place it in the PDA section of Odin to flash back to stock.
Even after doing this your kernel version will not change, you may be thinking because it says "root" its representation that your phone is rooted but thats not the case its just the info on what computer etc your phone was loaded with its original firmware (Somebody correct me if i'm wrong) .
P.s. If your doing this for warranty purposes you will need to get a usb jig to reset your flash counter, search forum first as you will need to flash and older bootloader for it to work.
Thanks for the reply but i think you may have misunderstood my question....
... this file i downloaded through CheckFus "I9100TDUKJ1_I9100THUTKJ1_I9100TDUKJ1_HOME.tar.md5" is almost 1gb in size which leads me to believe that it is a full stock rom and not just a kernel, so all i'd like to have confirmed is if i use it in Odin will it over-write everything on my phone (apps, games, settings, data etc) or will Odin only flash what's needed to bring the kernel version back to stock. Thanks again.
P.S. i'm not bothered about the triangle or flash counter or warranty issues as yet.
Yes. You can pull the zImage of the stock kernel & flash just that in Odin.

... this file i downloaded through CheckFus "I9100TDUKJ1_I9100THUTKJ1_I9100TDUKJ1_HOME.tar.md5" is almost 1gb in size which leads me to believe that it is a full stock rom and not just a kernel, so all i'd like to have confirmed is if i use it in Odin will it over-write everything on my phone (apps, games, settings, data etc) or will Odin only flash what's needed to bring the kernel version back to stock. Thanks again.
P.S. i'm not bothered about the triangle or flash counter or warranty issues as yet.

Cheers for that brother. Quite possibly stating the obvious but the zImage has to be in a .tar file format right? Thanks again.

Right. I use tar on a Linux machine to tar just the kernel ('zImage'). Flashing the resulting archive will flash just the kernel.

[Q]How to fix bad display after flashing wrong firmware?

Hello everyone, my old thread was locked before I could explain and clarify my situation. I have a problem with my display for my I777. It is overly sharp and the the color is faded, this started after I flashed the international firmware using odin to fix a boot loop. I'm still new at this and I made a mistake of using the wrong firmware so I used the Odin One click from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1313659 and revert back to stock firmware. However the display still looks terrible and did not change, so if anyone knows how to help me with this it would be much appreciated.
More details: I used the information from the last post in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1266390
and flashed the 3 files with odin. This was able to fix my boot loop, but result in a bad display. The other change that I notice Vol up + Vol down + power does not work, but it changed to Vol down + Power to go in download and Vol up + power for recovery. This also did not change back after using the Odin One click to revert to stock firmware.
And please forgive me for not noticing the sticky, however all the threads linked in the sticky I have already read through searching with google. Thank You.
My suggestion is to follow the return for warranty thread and call att for a warranty exchange. If you followed all the return to stock instructions perfectly, then I don't see how your screen would be permanently damaged that way.
Sent from my SGH-I777 using xda premium
I couldn't find the files you flashed to verify, but from your description, it sounds like you flashed I9100 bootloaders and param.lfs. To recover, go to the Download Repository and flash the I777UCKH7-CL503881 Stock Binaries. You can use the one-click downloader. This will flash the complete I777 UCKH7 firmware including bootloaders and param.lfs. This should correct any display problem caused by firmware (assuming it is not a hardware problem.)
Thank you for the replies, I cannot return this phone cause I have ticked the counter. And I'm 99% sure this is not a hardware error.
And creepyncrawly this is where I downloaded the files from http://hotfile.com/dl/116656855/2ccf2f4/I9100XWKDF.rar.html and followed these instructions from the last post in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1266390.
The password for the file is: samfirmware.com
Start Odin and put these in the following
PDA: CODE_I9100XWKDF_CL170898_REV02_user_low_ship.tar
CSC: GT-I9100-MULTI-CSC-OXXKDD.tar
Modem: MODEM_I9100XXKDJ_REV_02_CL996627.tar
Forget the rest of the files. DO NOT SELECT A PIT FILE AND DO NOT TICK REPARITION.
Put your phone into download mode and connect the usb cable. When the Odin box turns yellow press flash and wait until phone reboots. The first boot will take a while... be patient.
Edit: i will now try and flash the stock binaries, hopefully this will work and I think it will. I will report the results after trying.
Firmware downloaded from sammobile will contain the bootloaders and param.lfs. If you look in CODE_I9100XWKDF_CL170898_REV02_user_low_ship.tar you'll see them all in there.
You also flashed the csc. I'm not sure if it will even change things on our phone, but if so, you have to correct that too. CSC is region specific or carrier specific. You might learn more about it in the Hellraiser thread in the ported development forum. It may very well be a non-issue though.
It worked! The colors are back to normal and so is the sharpness. Thank you very much creepy, now I also learned some new stuff about binaries and param.lfs. As for the CSC I do not notice any change, my region is ok and carrier is still At&t. This might be because I flashed a bunch of roms made specifically for the I777 like cognition 777 and unamed,to try and fix the color. I think there is CSC file in the roms and it over wrote the sammobile csc? Correct me if I'm wrong, but all seems to be well again thank you very much all.

[Q] Verizon Note 2 - Restore to Stock

Hello guys. I helped my dad a while back to root and flash a custom rom to his Note 2. He's recently been having some trouble with it and wants to restore it to stock. He was running Beans rom I believe the dev goes by Beanstown106 or something like that. Was an older version I think build 21 or 22. Used CASUAL to root. So I have a few questions. Does it matter what version of ODIN I use or should I just get the latest? Do I need to get the app to reset the counter? He might end up sending it in for warranty. All I should need is the PIT and PDA file to flash to stock with ODIN correct?
I found this video guide and seems to be relatively simple. But I just want to make sure I don't screw it up by using wrong ODIN version or anything like that. Safe to just use the links provided in the video for PIT/PDA files? Here's the video link if anyone wants to check it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4qtbEevn1VA or if you have a better video guide that I should use instead or have links to share for the files I need I would appreciate it

"Do I need to get the app to reset the counter?" If you're going to return it for warranty... it would be good idea to reset the binary counter. The Triangle Away app from Chainfire is available in the Play store for this. **You'll need to run Triangle away before you restore to stock as you need to have the bootloader unlocked when you run it... or you could hard brick the phone.**
"Does it matter what version of ODIN I use or should I just get the latest?" Either of the Odin versions 3.07, 3.09, or 3.10 should work fine to restore the phone.
"All I should need is the PIT and PDA file to flash to stock with ODIN correct?" Correct. The firmware goes into PDA slot in Odin v. 3.07. In Odin 3.09 and 3.10, AP has replaced the PDA slot... so the firmware would go in AP in newer Odin versions. Pit file goes into Pit slot in either Odin version.
I think that video is a good reference to help restore the phone. I used it myself when first learning to return this phone to stock. I don't know if I would use the download links or not in the YouTube video, as I tend to stick with Xda provided links.
You've probably found Droidstyle's Restore guide already, but if not, check it out here: ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=34891181 ). Section 1b has step by step instructions to restore the phone. He has a link for Odin 3.07 on his guide which should work fine. He also has the pit file for download.
Since you are on 4.1.2 bootloader... I would probably restore back to that firmware version. After you restore to stock, you can take the OTA'S to get up to 4.4.2 if you're wanting to return it for warranty (just remember that you can't downgrade back to 4.3 or 4.1.2 if you upgrade to 4.4.2). The one thing I would do after returning the phone to Stock would be to boot into recovery, then wipe cache & do a factory reset... as Odin doesn't seem to fully wipe everything.
Droidstyle's link for 4.1.2 looks to be down.... but recognized XDA Developer imnuts has the 4.1.2 VRAMC3 Odin file on his Android File Host site here: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23159073880932932
Good luck.
