hi,
i have SE x10i and i downloaded some apps in the market and my phone suddenly restarts... and i flash it on SE PC companion and its now ok
the problem is that when ever i charge the phone the battery heats up and then my phone also heats up and shuts down... i get the battery out for some few minutes to cool down and then it gets ok.. but because i want to charge the battery but still same problem..
what should i do??

Are you heavily using the phone (gaming, watching videos, streaming, surfing the net) while charging?
Install setcpu and use a temperature trigger of 50C (or what you want) to limit the cpu.
Mine is set for 768Mhz.
And if you are using it while its charging try not to cup the back of the phone, you trap the heat.
If it keeps shutdown when you charge, you should bring it to SE service. Maybe this is hardware problems.

when the cp heats up its restart automatically..
@all
where can i DL such apps that can normalize the cpu's temperature..
i cant charge normally because as what i have said
it heats up and shutsdown thee phone..
Aw man that sucks, keep in mind your battery life will get worse if its heated too much.

yeah really really sucks.. i cant normally charge with my charger
coz when the temperature rises it will stop charging ang the phone restarts or automatically off...
thats why i need your opinions! please..

Not all brand new devices are in perfect shape. There's always a factory defective one..
Try consulting your problem at any service center of S.E. or ask for a replacement. As you said its a brand new device it has warranty.

Hi Nucleus55,
Although i'm relatively new to xda, i'm also relatively "old" to h/w related problems, so here's is one piece of advise if you like.
As stated also from other member's previously "-- X10B --", if the phone's temp rises to a degree where it auto-reboots and stops charging, and if this occurs every single time, then you should probably replace it from your nearest SE shop. Especially if it is new and under warranty. As stated from "-- X10B --" there is always the possibility of a h/w error or in construction and/or design flaw in that specific model. You never know.
Personally, i got this "batterylife" widget (from market) which shows battery status and temp, and for me, when i charge my phone, it has never gone above 40 degrees Celsius while idle (charging only) and up to (MAX) 48 while under heavy stress during charging, like games, videos, etc.
I have never seen it gone to 50 degrees.
You could also do as previously stated by "kindred7", that is, install an application and set the max degree to 50 degrees, although i strongly recommend (this is always my personal opinion), when it comes to ALL electronics, to always keep them as cool as possible. If this is not possible, because you tend to stress it all the time either from games or videos, then you could find a better cooling solution, like maybe removing its cover while charging.
I have just tried it myself about a half an hour ago to see if there is any change in temp, and i have noticed that in my work space where the ambient temp is around 25 degrees, the phone while charging and uncovered, was stable at 38 degrees Celsius.
Also, if you a lot of functions ON like Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth, then it is obvious that the phone temp will rise to its max. If so, then try to disable any things you don't need, not only while charging but always.
That's all that i can think of right now
this has happened to me after i updated my x10i to 2.3.3 .. the battery life has just got worse and sometimes while heavy use the battery temp rises very much.
Any Solution will be helpful.

From the symptoms you've listed I'm pretty sure you need a new battery due to the heat exposure.
When you are charging your phone make sure you have your screen off. I know this sounds stupid but I found it stopped my phone from overheating while charging
my battery is heating aswell
i upgraded and did not use my phone for 5 hrs ish and it was just on my table and then i smell smoke frome my phone and it was like my battery was a bbq

yes i think this is the problem that i forgot.
i expose it to sunlight while we are drinking some beer with friends outside of our house . and
because i have some sms i grab my phone and damn it was so hot.
so i put my phone inside the house and after that it started to resart whenever the temp rises, or even i use a short period of time...

Hi,
I have a big problem with my phone. Sometimes it simply shutdowns just after booting. And sometimes it shutdowns if I use it in a normal way (like listening to music or browsing on Facebook) And the battery is not at 0%. It happens at each percentage. This afternoon it even happened at 85%.
The only I thing I noticed that this is not happening if the phone is connected with the power supply.
Have someone of you the same problem? Can someone help me?
Greetings
Hey there!
i also have had this issue a few times, i hear its a motherboard issue i cant tell if that is the main problem tho..
anyways try reinstalling android, i havent has any problems on my phone since i did that

Thanks. I already changed my ROM. From CM7 I went back to Wolfbreak. But there is the same problem.
Perhaps it is a battery problem? Should I buy a new battery?
Hi,man i have that problem too,
So,i see that if i plug my charger with no battery and pull the back button then the green light appear like in flash mode.so if you pull the battery when you have this led on,your battery indicates wrong values,in another way if your battery have 5% and you pull it with this strange flashmode then it indicate 88%.
Another symptom is that you not have the long vibration when you pull
out the battery and re pull on
Another one is if you remove sim and sdcard and boot the phone then you have the right battery values and no suck on your batttery for exemple,
in this mode my battery stay at 98% 4 hour O_O
The major problem is that your phone is in flash mode all the time and eat buttery and give wrong values and give WLOD at boot, normaly one before lock and one after.
I don't know what do that but give massive battery drain, massive network usage, and
Constant reboot.
I suspect virus or something like that.
Don't lose your time to try to reflash firmware or different rom cause that not solve the problem,
I reflash 1.6 2.1 2.3 and many custom rom with no success
Tell me if you have the green led when no battery and charger pluged and pull back key repetitively for appear this led
to ensure that you have the same problem.
If I find a way a post here for sure but I think that my phone is dead :-(
I know this is a bit old but I'm necro'ing it just in case it helps someone.
I had the same issue with my stock Optimus One, I installed AOKP and it worked like a charm.
Now i've had my Xperia Neo V for a while now with a custom version of AOKP and had no problem until recently, haven't installed anything new just a couple of updates, filled a new sdcard with music and it shut down out of the blue.
if you have shutdown problemes, it can be motherboard issue, ROM or kernel. Try reinstall android OS, and if you still got shutdowns try different kernel or ROM. I tested many combination and I didnt get any shutdown with Zmod ROM + Doomkernel ( I dont want to promote this rom or kernel, just writing my personal experience) . After changing kernel and ROM you could have batery drain, or it can looks like that. Wipe battery stats and recalibrate the battery. System need some time to create good new battery stats. 2 charging cycles and is good in most cases. Battery drain depends on that how you using phone so charging every day ( once per day) is normal.
It sounds like the 'Old Battery' issue! LiPol/LiIon batteries only have a life span of about 2 years. X10 is older than that now!

Hi, I got a very annoying problem.
Since a few weeks ago, flashed a ROM and when I've tried to use the phone, it keeps turning off randomly, sometimes after a few minutes, sometimes after hours. So, I tried to take it back to the clean original 2.3.3 ROM, but it keeps happening. ¿Any idea? ¿Any solution? Please, help me.
Oh, something else, it only happens when the phone's used with the battery, when it's attached to my laptop and used as modem, the problem doesn't appear.
I had the same problem, it said android system shutting down. I just bought new battery and it works.

Maybe calibrating the battery.

go back to stock and see if it helps! try to troubleshoot the problem! Also, don't install any apps!
There are instructions on how to calibrate your battery in the first post in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1489214&highlight=calibrate+battery
If the problem is the battery, you might find that after calibration that the battery drains faster than expected, and still shuts down, only this time it warns you that it's gonna shut down. This would then be the true battery drain. If that is the case, you might just need to buy a new one anaway.
Otherwise, I don't know what else could be causing those symptoms. (Other than an electrical fault, from accumulated damp or something)

thanks so much..............
What happens it's that the phone shuts down suddenly, the message appears for a seconds and it's off. Wait for a few seconds, try to turning on again and sometimes works for some minutes, and sometimes it's keeping turning off, and off, and off. But, the battery level seems to be correct, I mean, when I turn on the phone after one of these sudden shutdowns, only drains the logical ammount of battery for starting use the phone.
I think... if the problem never appears when it's attached to the laptop and charging constantly, and magically appears when I used the phone with the battery, it's probably just a battery issue, right?
I have a similar problem to this, my phone randomly shuts down after showing the 'Android System shutting down' message but sometimes loses ALOT of battery. Last night it went from 78% to 8% after shutting down :/ I noticed it happened more often when im playing games or taking a video, things that take up more battery. When i keep it plugged in it keeps awake so the problem stops but i cant keep it in all day every day. I dont really want to buy a new battery until i really really have to, but I have had the phone and battery since the x10 first came out about 2 years ago, so anyone any other ideas? Thanks

could it be hardware problem like broke battery or bad connection on motherboard?

Yeah this happened to me before about 6 months ago, so i went to my provider (3) and they sent it away to Sony Ericsson and they sent me a whole new phone but I didnt want to do that again really, but i may have to. When im not using WiFi or 3G then it works fine, and when its plugged in to the charger it works so i guess its a case of not usuing the internet when im not near a charger
I have the same problem.
My X10 reboot random when using 3G (Wifi is still OK) and Gaming. Now i'm on Stock 2.3 and stock kernel and....wait. (Flash some ROM and change the new battery....but not solved )
Anyone help us !!! Plizzzzzzzzzzz
Maybe your solution
I had the same problem sometimes with original kernel after 1 year of using my phone.
Then i tried to install a new rom, and i was thinking the problem was solved. But it was not...
I finished by trying the X10S (v7) rom with DoomLord kernel (1113mhz) and this problem was solved...
I tried some kernels and this one was stable with a good battery life and no shutdown problem. With some other kernels i had this problem back.
So I think that kernel could be the problem.
Infortunately, with the rom X10S v8, Doomlord kernel cause issues with wifi (unable to get ip adress). So now i use kCernel-SE-stock-mod-v1 and no shutdown problem anymore.
*Maybe the solution is*
Try to change your kernel with one of thoose :
- kCernel here (in "2. kCernel-SE-stock-mod-v1")
- DoomLord (search fo x10_gb_DooMKernel-v06-1113_wifi.zip)
Note :
- With this two kernels, you'll have to download appropriate wifi patch and install it from SDcard via xRecovery
- don't try to install X10S v8 if your bootloader is locked
So, try to flash your X10 using flashtool with Doomlord kernel
Tell us if it worked, i hope it solved your problem as it do it for me.
voltage
Hi,
I have had this issue too, for the last few months. No matter what ROM/Kernel, batt stats cleared, etc, still the same. Can idle all day, but as soon as I use 3G, GPS, or use any intensive app, she shuts down.
As an experiment I installed a battery monitor that plots graphs of % charge, temp, voltage, etc over time.
I had a close look at my logged graphs and have noticed that just before each reboot, the voltage seems to dip drastically. Battery charge is fine, does not seem to matter. but a sharp drop in voltage occurs. Increased draw for the more complex tasks (3G, GPS, etc) seems to be tripping it up.
As the Battery is now 2 years old, I figured it is just starting to fail? And iv noticed lots of people are suddenly coming out and complaining about this issue.
I just ordered a few new Batteries from 'Ebay', will see how we go!...
peace.
[INFO / SOLUTION] Suddenly shuts off with red LED.
Good to know:
The X10i/a have now reached an age, where battery failures is very common nowadays. Specially if one got the device early on or just after the launch.
Symptoms of a failing battery:
* Device suddenly shuts off, even when the battery have several percent remaining.
* Device drains fast, even when not used.
* Device might just shut off for no whatsoever reason when doing something that draws a lot of power, and will restart just fine.
* Device has a surprisingly fast charge time from empty to full.
When the device shuts off all of a sudden, it's followed by the indicator LED blinking red, rapidly three times, and might repeat this at restart attempts.
Sometimes it takes several tries before the device starts up again. Battery just needed a few minutes/an hour of "rest".
There's nothing wrong with the device.
Just get a fresh replacement battery and it'll work just fine again.
But beware:
There are many fake batteries out on the market, claiming that they have higher capacity, yet very slim in size.
There's a simple rule when it comes to battery capacity:
More capacity = larger in size, which might need a special back-cover. There's no escape from that.
If one would happen to find a such incredible slim battery with super capacity, the battery security circuits and/or chemical makeup probably have been circumvented/changed, and have a high risk of catching fire and/or explode when charging/discharging.
Yeah thanks for all the advice and sharing your problems. My phone does reboot alot when im using 3G or taking a video. Start :
2 weeks ago - on March 8 me NEO has lost Cell network 3G. when trying to manually find a network - phone got extremely hot, can not hold in hand, I shut down him and pulled the battery.
after 15 minutes phone get cold, I put the battery back, connected to the network 2G.
continued:
NEO very quickly start to drain the battery - for a night in standby from 100% dropped to 20-30%.
I calibrate the battery - did not help, Then flashed to ISC with full wipe - did not help
battery drain for a night - for about 40-45% of the "cell standby" and "phone idle"
I switched network mode 2G <-> 3G, no difference in draining battery.
until March 8 Battery was enough for 2-3 days, per night discharged less than 10%.
what can u recommend, what else can I do?
P.S. screen is not mine, but i have the same data.

May be battery. Even though my battery monitor app ( https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ccc71.bmw&hl=en ) reports good health and shows that current consumption in stand by mode now is about 117 mA, while it was less than 22 mA earlier before the problem started (attached screenshots). It depends on how the app calculates the current consumption. If it is based on a amp-meter or a coloumb counter in the phone the increased power consumption is real, but if it's based on change in battery voltage it may be the battery.
Additionally it feels hotter in the upper area, above the camera lens.

You're facing a hardware issue then. If you still have it in warranty I suggest you send it in, if not I can point you out what's the component that is possibly causing the drain so you can change it yourself, although it might be complicated to do..
Try to remember if you charged your phone on a different power outlet when those problems started appearing.
cheers

Yes I was charging my phone when being on a family visit, but I used the usual Sony charger.
I would appreciate if you could tell me which component that may be faulty.
Are you in possession of a circuit diagram and a PCB layout? If the actual component isn't too difficult situated, I think I could change it myself since HW is my profession.

It was probably that, it happened to me when I used a different power outlet.
I dont have the schematics but I suppose you can find it online.
The part that got burned up in my case was: "Mod PA WCDMA 880.915 MHz" which i believe is related to the antenna.
I dont know much more about the piece since it was repaired under warranty and that was all the info I received, but it fixed the problem, currently using the phone without issues.
Good luck with that project
I tried almost all ICS and JB roms for Xperia X10 but I had the same problem ever, that is device reboot when the battery's temperature exceeds more or less 38°C,after reboot I can't use my X10 until the temperature decreases to 30 °C because if I try to unlock the phone and I try to do something, after 1-2 minutes the phone reboots again...
usually,in my case, the temperature increases faster with mobile data turned on or gps turned on
Now,I opened this thread to know if I'm the only one with this problem or you too and if someone of you was able to solve it (or if you've just never had the problem) you can post suggestions,in this way:
ROM: name of the rom and version
Kernel: name of the kernel and version
min CPU frequency:
max CPU frequency:
various performace settings: (dithering,ram compression,etc)
original SE Xperia X10 battery: (yes or no)
age of battery:
You can see battery's temperature downloading TEMP + CPU v2 from google play store,it's a widget
I know you are not the only one person with this problem, as I already got same questions from two more persons. I don't know:
1. why temperature is much higher on JB than GB
2. why it's causing some problems on your devices, I have 39°C most time and my device running full stable up to 1152 always, sometime can loop on 1190.
Maybe try to decrase frequency?

my max cpu fraquency was always 998Mhz and min frequency 245Mhz...
Then there is a problem. I think there could be some problem with Kernel itself, like too much or too less voltages for each frequency, Did you try SetXperia or did you manually change it before?
Buddy, buy a new battery...it's very cheap on eBay...I bought one for something like 4 euro...and it's Sony original and solved overheating problem!! X10 uses a lipo battery...when it start overheating,it's time to buy a new one...I'm 99% sure software has anything to do with this problem!! The fact that your phone reboot it's probably caused by a peak of current the phone ask to your battery and this one is not able to handle...so it's voltage fall down below the minimum value(called Lipo cut off) and the phone turn off!! My suggestion is to buy a new battery...good luck!!

The fact that your phone reboot it's probably caused by a peak of current the phone ask to your battery and this one is not able to handle...so it's voltage fall down below the minimum value(called Lipo cut off) and the phone turn off!! My suggestion is to buy a new battery...good luck!!

Today I installed a GB rom and I have the same problem so I think that this problem is caused by battery, now I ordered a new battery enhanced to 3.7v,I hope to solve the problem.
We are waiting for your future reply .
I'm testing the new battery, now I have a new problem, the temperature of this new battery is -30°C and it not charging :crying:,why??? is there something to do for initialize a new battery?
Ummm I think nope, but I see that device is not like you . First too high temp - then too less but not charging. I don't have idea what to do, maybe try to turn it off, pull down battery, put on and charge offline?

Now I'm charging the device offline but the animation of battery is static...is possible that this problem is caused by kernel? in this moment I have Achotjan Semc debrand engine CM7 with his kernel
Maybe first try to settle your battery with some official firmware.

I flashed now the original gingerbread firmware on my X10 but before with the previous rom,the battery is discharged instead of charging ,now with the original firmware is the same,I can't turn on my X10,probably this battery is faulty :-S
You're really unlucky buddy .
if there are no issues with your hardware then i think maybe it was your kernel, try to flash to another kernel and see if it solve the problem.

Here I'm again, after nearly a month I have a new battery but I have the same problem for now...
at least this battery charging ad the temperature is stable at 33°C but after a few minutes that i use the phone to play 2D games or to surf the internet,it reboots.
For now I haven't charge the battery for the first time (i did only a test to see if it was charging) and probably before giving a judgment I have to do some charges,am I right?
I don't know if charging is 100% needed, but you can do this if you're worry about that. As for existing problem, maybe it's something with motherboard .
