ICS & JB ROMs battery's temperature issue - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I tried almost all ICS and JB roms for Xperia X10 but I had the same problem ever, that is device reboot when the battery's temperature exceeds more or less 38°C,after reboot I can't use my X10 until the temperature decreases to 30 °C because if I try to unlock the phone and I try to do something, after 1-2 minutes the phone reboots again...
usually,in my case, the temperature increases faster with mobile data turned on or gps turned on
Now,I opened this thread to know if I'm the only one with this problem or you too and if someone of you was able to solve it (or if you've just never had the problem) you can post suggestions,in this way:
ROM: name of the rom and version
Kernel: name of the kernel and version
min CPU frequency:
max CPU frequency:
various performace settings: (dithering,ram compression,etc)
original SE Xperia X10 battery: (yes or no)
age of battery:
You can see battery's temperature downloading TEMP + CPU v2 from google play store,it's a widget

I know you are not the only one person with this problem, as I already got same questions from two more persons. I don't know:
1. why temperature is much higher on JB than GB
2. why it's causing some problems on your devices, I have 39°C most time and my device running full stable up to 1152 always, sometime can loop on 1190.
Maybe try to decrase frequency?

my max cpu fraquency was always 998Mhz and min frequency 245Mhz...

Then there is a problem. I think there could be some problem with Kernel itself, like too much or too less voltages for each frequency, Did you try SetXperia or did you manually change it before?

Buddy, buy a new battery...it's very cheap on eBay...I bought one for something like 4 euro...and it's Sony original and solved overheating problem!! X10 uses a lipo battery...when it start overheating,it's time to buy a new one...I'm 99% sure software has anything to do with this problem!! The fact that your phone reboot it's probably caused by a peak of current the phone ask to your battery and this one is not able to handle...so it's voltage fall down below the minimum value(called Lipo cut off) and the phone turn off!! My suggestion is to buy a new battery...good luck!!

Today I installed a GB rom and I have the same problem so I think that this problem is caused by battery, now I ordered a new battery enhanced to 3.7v,I hope to solve the problem.

We are waiting for your future reply .

I'm testing the new battery, now I have a new problem, the temperature of this new battery is -30°C and it not charging :crying:,why??? is there something to do for initialize a new battery?

Ummm I think nope, but I see that device is not like you . First too high temp - then too less but not charging. I don't have idea what to do, maybe try to turn it off, pull down battery, put on and charge offline?

Now I'm charging the device offline but the animation of battery is static...is possible that this problem is caused by kernel? in this moment I have Achotjan Semc debrand engine CM7 with his kernel

Maybe first try to settle your battery with some official firmware.

I flashed now the original gingerbread firmware on my X10 but before with the previous rom,the battery is discharged instead of charging ,now with the original firmware is the same,I can't turn on my X10,probably this battery is faulty :-S

You're really unlucky buddy .

if there are no issues with your hardware then i think maybe it was your kernel, try to flash to another kernel and see if it solve the problem.

Here I'm again, after nearly a month I have a new battery but I have the same problem for now...
at least this battery charging ad the temperature is stable at 33°C but after a few minutes that i use the phone to play 2D games or to surf the internet,it reboots.
For now I haven't charge the battery for the first time (i did only a test to see if it was charging) and probably before giving a judgment I have to do some charges,am I right?

I don't know if charging is 100% needed, but you can do this if you're worry about that. As for existing problem, maybe it's something with motherboard .

Out of curiosity, can you tell me how many mv is your battery voltage from cpu-z battery tab?

In battery section in this app, I have Voltage -> 3730mV.

[Q] Battery Issue 2.3.3

Hi xda members
Since I didn't get a reply in issue's in GB thread I will make one my own.
it happens to be that my battery life has greatly discreased with the GB update.
Let me tell you what I did
I had a rooted FW of 2.1 because I have read that the update doesn't update with CFW i repaired trough SEUS to stock. I wiped all caches + battery stats and updated this friday to 2.3.3
Now I think my battery still needs time to calibrate again since I wiped stats but here is the strange part.
whenever the phone is on idle the phone only uses about 34mA ( using battery monitor widget ) which is as before noting big . But whenever I go to youtube/ watch mp4 vids it skyrockets to 900mA!? This makes my battery last for 2 hours. The brightness is at it's lowest though and still it consumes so much. before my mA was around 300mA with that kind of usage now it's freaking 900mA !?
Should I relfash wait for the battery to be calibrated again ?
Thanks for you time
bump no one !?
I think this problem is due to original sonyericsson kernel in 2.3.3 that causes the problems, and I think it can be fix it with custom kernel, because the processor is always operating at 998Mhz and 245Mhz little.
look it in cpuspy

Yup downloaded cpuspy and indeed it's always clocked at max speed even when just browsing and stuff going to look to root this device and underclock thanks for the input !
Has this issue been fixed somehow, or addressed? Is it even possible? I'm on WB TW 2.3.3, lovin' it, but battery running down crazy when screen is on. CPUspy does show, though, that when in an application (e.g. Drag Race), the middle CPU frequencies are indeed used.... At the moment I have
1h34 @ 998MHz,
8min @ 768MHz,
6min @ 576MHz,
2min @ 384MHz,
12min @ 245MHz,
30min deep sleep.
So they are not inaccessible... any ideas on how we can get back to normal battery use? CPU profiles etc. of any use?

I am on wolfs rom aswell and calibrating battery as we speak I hope it works
I will keep you posted! Going to stress my x10 for a while and see how the battery goes and post some screenhots when done.
I hope I can fix this with wolfs rom and by underclocking some
ok seems I can get more battery life out of this old sucker
but whenever screen is on it still goes pretty down fast
even on a low brightness I think it's kernel related
do one thing .... charge ur phone to 100% and then reboot in xrec and wipe ur battery stats...then unplug ur charger , remove battery and plug in ur charger and wait 5 seconds, put ur battery and turn on see if the battery is below 5 % ..if its then do full charge until 100%..after that check ur battery how it works ..
i did this thing 2 hrs back my battery ran in 100% for more than and hour with 50% brightness !!
hope it works for u too
Thank me if it worked for u!!
I'm afraid you may still have problems with battery time. I had the same prob. and got the free market app "set cpu", battery time doubled as soon as I set up the app.
Install the app and on the main page set the scaling to "ondemand", then click "set on boot". Set sliders to 245 min. 998 max.
hope this works for you as it did for me.

2 Question about heat

Hello there
my x10i heats up when charging or browsing and watching video
and there is Strange smell like the smell of something burnt
but the mobile work fine
is there any Risk ؟؟
------------------------------------------------------
and my other x10a After Flashing Did not work and stayed on the logo and get very heat
I want advice please
1. Depends, is the phone new? If not then it sounds like your battery is too hot, check the temp. Under ambient temp of 25C your phone shouldnt really hit 50C.
2.This could be a process of dalvik cache being created if not and the phone hangs for excessive amounts of time >5min, reflash the device
Thanks man
the phone is new I bought 5 months ago
1- How do I measure the temperature of battery ?????
2- What about the smell and the heat is it dangerous ؟؟؟؟؟؟؟

smell is still coming.??If yes, then its a hardware problem.
K, so just so we are clear 1. represents the first question asked and 2. the question after the "-------"
1. You can see the battery temperature using something like setcpu or Android system info from the market. As z3us said if the heat still coming its most likely a hardware issue the most common is the battery.
2. Have you explained this other x10a further or were ur additional comments only about the first x10?
hello
the x10a is work fine after flash android 2.1 and it is work without any error
the temperature of x10i battery with charge 41 c and the mobile work fine on 2.3.3
now i have another 2 Question
1- How can measure the temperature of the processor ???
2- What is reason for the smell of burning and Does it affected mobile ?
The temp you read sound fair for charging.
1. From what I can see it seems that there is only one temperature sensor since both the battery and cpu are in such close proximity (correct me if im wrong). So the sensor listed under battery can give you a fair estimate of the cpu temperature, although they are not the same.
2. The smell can range from the smell of the silicon from the cpu or the materials of the battery, such as any glue present in packaging etc burning. Depends on which one is over heating. The effect depends on the length of time in exposure with the heat.
EDIT: The longer it is exposed the more damage. In terms of the battery you would see an affect in capacity and for the cpu you most likely would see the phone freeze. Keep in mind that other things can cause freezing such as depleted memory.
I should also mention that the temperatures we are talking about is around 55C+ and I do believe the x10 and other android devices has overtemp shutdown (also correct me if wrong).
Thanks man
temperature did not reach more than 42c with the running game angry birds, and Wi-Fi and surf the Internet and download apps from market
and also i did not get any phone freeze

[Q] Heating Problems On All Roms!!!

After installing se.tweaked i have got Heating problems... On stock, cm, miui... What can i do??? Not overclocked it becomes so warm that you cant hold it
Sent from my MT15i using xda premium
So, COMPLETELY stock, your phone overheats? Without charger connected?
Yes
i flash .62 on wotan server, it may start heating when text messagin
Your signature states scripts...
OH
sorry its old, update it
Then you have a battery issue.... is it a real (genuine) original SE battery? ...or something is really draining the battery very fast causing it to heat up (presumably your battery lasts a few minutes at most?) - you may need to look at what apps you are using.
by the way, the battery has a temperature sensor internally. If the phone detects that the temp exceeds 52C, the phone will shutdown. So is safe, assuming the battery is genuine and not modified.
why open a new thread similar to this already existing? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1561840

Battery overheating PLEASE HELP!

hey
i am using rooted sony ericsson wt19i last mouth i bought battery from ebay the brand of the battery is KINPS and capacitive is 2200mAh with using this battery phone is repeatedly reboots i saw in the hidden menu that battery temperature is between 60C-55C i dont belive that that battery in the first seconds got this temperature and its heat like the original one no difference i heard its because phone protection can i change that?.
what i would do?
thanks and sorry about my bad english.
Well you said your battery has 2200 mAh. Im looking right now my wt19 original battery and it says it's just 1200 mAh so there u got one reason why your battery is overheating. More energy = more heat. My phone just got to like 45 C° if im charging it while hard-using it at the same time but 55-60? the phone seriously has a hard time recognizing and adapting to the new "fake" battery. If problem keeps try to get a new original battery i don't know how much problems at future can bring using a higher voltage battery

[Q] Neo drain battery

Please help me with a problem!
Start :
2 weeks ago - on March 8 me NEO has lost Cell network 3G. when trying to manually find a network - phone got extremely hot, can not hold in hand, I shut down him and pulled the battery.
after 15 minutes phone get cold, I put the battery back, connected to the network 2G.
continued:
NEO very quickly start to drain the battery - for a night in standby from 100% dropped to 20-30%.
I calibrate the battery - did not help, Then flashed to ISC with full wipe - did not help
battery drain for a night - for about 40-45% of the "cell standby" and "phone idle"
I switched network mode 2G <-> 3G, no difference in draining battery.
until March 8 Battery was enough for 2-3 days, per night discharged less than 10%.
what can u recommend, what else can I do?
P.S. screen is not mine, but i have the same data.
sorry for my bad English.
try a good ICS kernel which could give best battery backup
I got the same problem 2 days ago. I've tried to restart, removed and reinserted the battery, restored an old nandroid backup, but nothing solved my problem so far. Last night I switched my phone off, but still I got the same high power consumption. Power consumption in attached pictures.

May be battery. Even though my battery monitor app ( https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ccc71.bmw&hl=en ) reports good health and shows that current consumption in stand by mode now is about 117 mA, while it was less than 22 mA earlier before the problem started (attached screenshots). It depends on how the app calculates the current consumption. If it is based on a amp-meter or a coloumb counter in the phone the increased power consumption is real, but if it's based on change in battery voltage it may be the battery.
Additionally it feels hotter in the upper area, above the camera lens.
I have the fix for your problem, do this first: turn it off over night and see if it still drains battery, if you notice battery drain even with the phone turned off I have your solution, let me know.

You're facing a hardware issue then. If you still have it in warranty I suggest you send it in, if not I can point you out what's the component that is possibly causing the drain so you can change it yourself, although it might be complicated to do..
Try to remember if you charged your phone on a different power outlet when those problems started appearing.

Yes I was charging my phone when being on a family visit, but I used the usual Sony charger.
I would appreciate if you could tell me which component that may be faulty.
Are you in possession of a circuit diagram and a PCB layout? If the actual component isn't too difficult situated, I think I could change it myself since HW is my profession.

It was probably that, it happened to me when I used a different power outlet.
I dont have the schematics but I suppose you can find it online.
The part that got burned up in my case was: "Mod PA WCDMA 880.915 MHz" which i believe is related to the antenna.
I dont know much more about the piece since it was repaired under warranty and that was all the info I received, but it fixed the problem, currently using the phone without issues.
Good luck with that project
