On Asus Facebook page, Asus announces another firmware update with new features. What do you think these new features can be?

Update!!! ..Its officially being pushed out
ASUS Transformer Prime update due March 29 with ethernet support
Chris Davies | March 28, 2012
ASUS has announced that an update for the Transformer Prime is in the pipeline, though while ASUS US is coy on details, that hasn’t stopped the Italian arm from spoiling the surprise. ASUS US teased “awesome new features” which the Italians promptly detailed, including a March 29 expected release date – for the local market, at least – and support for a new “Prime LAN cable” accessory that will allow the tablet’s USB port to hook up to a wired ethernet cable, making the system even more useful as a laptop alternative.
Version 9.4.2.21 of the software will also introduce a new camera firmware update system, which will remove the need to separately update the software for the camera and instead bring it in with regular firmware changes. Other software changes will include the renaming of the Android Market to the Play Store, along with Play Books, Play Music and Play Movies, and ASUS’ Vibe software will go to v2.0 with a better UI and more content.
Users will also be able to control notifications, such as unread messages, directly from the lockscreen, presumably jumping straight into the relevant app and bypassing the homescreen. There’ll be Face Unlock support too.
Connectivity, meanwhile, will also get a tweak, with Ad-hoc WiFi network support and other wireless bugfixes. There’ll also be the ability to choose between portrait or landscape orientation for video displayed via the HDMI output, with the option to scale it to fit the screen or bracket it with bars.
ASUS Italy also says that a further TF101 upgrade is in the pipeline too, addressing more issues encountered by some owners. No timescale for that, however.
Old news...
New Features:
+ Press-able notification in Lock screen
+ User can able to check reminder or notification of unread email under screen locked.
+ Upgrade Vibe from v1.0 to v2.0 with corresponding MyLibrary and MyCloud versions - Vibe2.0 improves UI and provides more media contents
New Functions:
+ Support the USB to LAN cable of UX series (Accessory)
+ Camera FW background forced update mechanism - Camera FW upgrade will be automatically installed with image upgrade so there is no need to press the independent camera upgrade icon in the notification area.
+ Support Ad hoc mode (Ad hoc mode was supported in HC but 1st time support in ICS)
+ Keep use’s choice of browser viewing type (Tablet or Desktop website viewing type)
+ Enable power profile (Battery information setting)
+ New display mode of HDMI output - Scale mode(Default) and Crop mode (Detail comparison in next two sides.)

that was for .19. we are getting .21 on Friday. so even more features and fixes will be on top of all that from .19.
The only thing that would really make my happy is either a fix to the screen tearing, GPS fixed (highly unlikely), or conerstone added in. I guess Ad-HOC will be useful so I can tether to my phone if I'm on the road.

I agree, I don't think they would post that on there Facebook page if we already knew what the updates were going to be. This is something that they haven't mentioned yet
idk about you guys but I'd like to see FFC unlock for this thing enabled. Really want to play around with that!

firmware update might not make you happy but the announcement should those are 2 separate things.
If they just fixed the browser it would be great.
I would like them to make it dual boot into a unicorn popcorn machine but thats just me. If you ignore repeat topics like this they will go away...

i just wish the efers would fix this hanging. it still happens in the browser (does not matter which one; stock, opera, firefox, boat they all do that same thing) i get the damn WAIT button, and it once I hit it it comes back to life miraculously. this started with the dreaded .13 update. .11 was not doing it.
i don't need anything else fixed as i am not using bluetooth, the wifi works just fine, and all the other programs are flying, but i mainly use it for news reading. got it in december.
FIX THE GODDAMN THING ALREADY YOU LAZY BASTARDS!!!!!

+1 this browsing wait is pissing me off. But it might be a flash thing as someone mentioned that after they got rid of flash it stopped doing it. The screen tearing is another one and please most importantly fix the complete system crawl anytime i'm downloading from the market.

you know you can fix or at least speed up the system crawl while downloading by installing ATP tweaks. then change the I/O scheduler to deadline or something. reason everything slows down is because the system giving the downloads top priority over everything. changing the scheduler should allow normal functions or speeds while downloading. noop is the default prime one and overall the best but it has its drawbacks. such as marketplace downloads example.
it is strange only the market downloading does this. I can download a huge file through opera mobile and everything operates fine. lots of market place downloads slows UI down.

Besides fixing some of the above problems i would like an Whatsapp client for my Prime. It would be cool if Asus and whatsapp made an ICS/tablet version of whatsapp working without the need of a sim.
More details on the update

connectivity via ethernet might well come in pretty handy
wifi in my bedroom is not so good, so will be able to just attach to a homeplug and surf away in bed
BiggerH, just read this topic. Prime with ICS supports Ethernet right out from the box, you just need to find a compatible adapter. Now ASUS starts to sell its own compatible adapter, and I bet it would be much more expensive than Linksys or Belkin.

The funny thing is I do that now with my prime using an Apple usb to Ethernet adapter. And it was the cheapest brand I found at my local microcenter

I just find it weird that some of you guys have problems with stuff such as ( I will include why I believe you have issues)
Wifi
You need to change your router settings just play around with it until you get better range usually you need to disable the wireless N function It may also be for you like the second replacement the andand tech guys got where their apple AP was interfering with the prime... Who knows but my router prime combo works wonderful! I can walk all the way to my mailboxes over 500 feet away from my access point through 6 inch walls
GPS
When you are doing a test you need to make sure that the little icon is flashing in the notification area if it is not then change your performance mode and do not touch the screen afterwards this is why you loose a lock! I can navigate for 2 hours without loosing a lock! But if I touch the screen (check email anything) I instantly loose the lock (This appears to me to be a tegra 3 powersaving feature as the GPS is a power vampire) I can drive for 2 hours and constantly keep a lock on 7-11 satellites
lockups+ reboots
( I have no idea why you have issues)
Unkown serial numbers
Seems like someone forgot to input your serial number before boxing it up
Just thought I would post this feel free to put in your own input on these issues
Sent from my Transformer Prime TF201
Worst thread ever you fail lockup issues are 100% out of users control and has nothing to do with apps if your going to make a thread like this at least know what your talking about. I won't even waste my breath about the GPS
My own take on the reasons people are having these issues:
Wifi
You're not holding it properly...hold it over your head with your left hand.
GPS
You're not pointing it directly at the satellites.
lockups+ reboots
You only paid $500 for the darned thing...you want it working? That'll cost you at least $1000!!!!
Unknown serial numbers
It's a tablet..not a PC. You can't expect it to remember everything, can you???
Just trying to throw a little humour in.
wow.... just... wow!
I hardly know how to respond. I thought by the title of your thread that you were referring to HARDWARE differences between units. As in why some get crappy GPS performance, and others get HORRENDOUS performance (or NO performance) There is OBVIOUSLY some hardware variance at play here, with the screen banding, ICS failures with Lockups and reboots. A good deal of those updates were done after cold boots, and some even did a Data Wipe/Reset before updating. How would "Bad apps" have caused issues there.
Asus has released an interesting mix of quality, and it's obvious that there are differences. Support has referred in several cases to "Older hardware revisions" but I have seen no Serial number confirmation or otherwise to back that up.
Why is it you can get a lock, and keep it with GPS:
"GPS
When you are doing a test you need to make sure that the little icon is flashing in the notification area if it is not then change your performance mode and do not touch the screen afterwards this is why you loose a lock! when I can not GET a lock? I can, and have done a Data reset, and tested with a) Just Honeycomb 3.2 and b) Just ICS. NO OTHER INSTALLED SOFTWARE. Clear sky, middle of a 9 acre FLAT park with clear views of horizon. I get 2, and sometime 3 satellites of maybe 7-9 to lock, for a spit second, then they lose it. This is with the unit fully charged, powered, and in "Performance Mode" (what used to be "Standard" in Honeycomb) no other apps running.
What do you think the difference COULD be? It's not "bad apps" I will tell you that much.
EDIT: Almost forgot. This is not how to resolve issues:
Wifi
You need to change your router settings just play around with it until you get better performance
Sure you can tune for better performance, but why should you HAVE TO? All my other devices require no such tuning, they work fine out of the box!

Reboots, crashes can very much be an apps issue. I had a very smooth TFP, which suddenly started misbehaving.
I was pretty frustrated as well, however I started doing my research, for e.g. I went into running apps and could see my available ram drop after boot (from 300 mb used, 700 free to around 700 mb used). By eliminating apps one by one, I got to the culprit and deleted it. Things were soon back to normal. Some apps just haven't been updated to work properly on ICS and that's that. However, if there are crashes off of a fresh install, then thats different.

no, i go to a normal school, they brodcast g and n, the signal in most areas is average, some really good, and some very poor. i only have good speeds when im close to the routers around campus, if i don't have excellent reception, its snail speed..yet my phone right next to it can connect fine with primo speeds

Hello All,
My first post here - I just got my new Asus TF Prime today... Beautiful tablet
I just have a couple of q's - Is there anything I should do first up, after I open it and charge it?
I have to do the upgrade to android 4.0 and I saw the instructions in the Asus TF Prime support page. Is that the easiest / best way? I saw that there are 10 different firmware versions and they do mention instructions on how to get the correct firmware. But for some reason, I find it confusing. Can someone let me know how to chose the right firmware for upgrade? I am in Helsinki, Finland and I got the TF Prime from Helsinki, Finland.
Is it necessary for me to install a security suite on the tablet?
PS., I have seen the wonderful accessories guide here and I plan to get some soon like the stylus / cover...
Thanks and see you all around.. Cheers.
Step 1: avoid trolls/douchebags that flood this forum nowadays....
anyway once you are charged up go into the settings then about tablet and check for new firmware and upgrade to ICS. Then you need to decide if you want to root the tablet or not.
After you update to ICS, do a factory reset, for silky smooth operating...
Congrats

Congrats with your TF Prime!
You probably have the WW SKU, so I guess that is the one you should look at that one (Version V9.4.2.15(WW)
Check the SW version under "settings", but I guess yours will be World Wide Rom.
Enjoy your TF Prime, mine has been ordered today.
Cheers!!!

Verry important, and do it before you install anything, saves a lot of time.
Step 2: post thread comparing it to The new iPad
Hello people,
Thanks a lot and lol on some msgs...
I am charging it up now and I will check the SW version in a while.. but on the box, I see "Android WW"... so I assume its the android ww rom?
Also, on the keyboard dock sticker, it says "Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich" - Does this mean it has already shipped with the Android 4.0 OS? Anyway, I will check in the settings once I turn it on.
PS., how do I do the factory reset? From within the settings like in any other android 4.0 OS?
Thanks again and cheers.
PPS., I don't have no iPad and so, no comparison..
The good things:
Check out a few games, they rock on the Prime. There are a number of "THD" marked games that give the 3D performance a workout and show off the hardware and display very well. Emulators, especially with a bluetooth joystick paired to it, work great. Check out performance of video with some good movies. Check out Splashtop (comes with the tablet) and if you're inclined, check out Splashtop THD (basically Splashtop but makes higher resolutions available, and smooooooth streaming for HD files). Decide whether to root, add things like CIFS support for connecting to your home network. Put a new launcher on it, organize your shortcuts into folders, get a new wallpaper on it using wallpaper wizardrii, chat with some friends using Skype or Talk.
The preventative steps, to do while in your return period, and before you decide to unlock it...some of these issues may require RMA or a return/repurchase or selection of a different unit for some people:
-Verify it has a serial number shown in settings, and that you are able to receive OTA updates.
-Check out the overall performance of wifi, decide if it's good enough for your needs.
-Check the performance of the GPS. It likely doesn't perform very well.
-Try pairing a bluetooth headset and listening to streaming music or watching a movie over wireless, check out internet speeds with and without bluetooth.
-Check for light bleed along edges of the screen
-If you plan on using the keyboard dock, check out the various threads on cracked screens and decide if you want to take preventative steps or get an extended warranty, etc.

Agreed. Update your tablet before you install any apps and then do a factory reset. Some people noted software glitches after they upgrade their device and it is much easier to to a factory reset before you install a lot of apps.

To check for an update go to Settings > About Tablet > System Firmware Update.
Even though your tablet shipped with ICS, it might not have the latest update for this tablet.
To reset your tablet go to Settings > Backup & reset > Factory data reset.
Great ideas for new owners. Got plenty to do looking for problems before downloading any kind of applications.

Hi People,
Thanks again for the msgs and info.
I checked and it says Android 4.0.3 in settings (and yes, there is the serial number too).
I am yet to connect to wifi / bluetooth and all that. I will soon. Tablet as such looks great - no defects from the outside..
Btw, I noticed that there is no Swype option as an input method?! Is this true or am I missing something here? If there is no swype, then can I just download the Swype Beta from the official Swype website?
As for the apps., I still haven't installed anything yet.. I will in the coming days There are quiet a few essential apps I need to get in as well as get a micro sd card for 'expanded' memory.. lol (I need the micro sd card, because I'll be working with tons of PDFs and other documents).
Anyway, let me see how it goes Cheers..

Of course, yes Dropbox, evernote, Adobe reader (or is there anything better for reading PDFs?), Skype, Opera Mobile etc., are all waiting to get in..
Btw, thanks a lot for the SD Card info. Yes, I do have an SD card lying around - I will check that..
Also, in one of my prev posts., I had asked info about the necessity for a security suite - do I need one? I mean, I don't install apps from outside the google android market in any case... still, do I need a security suite?
And does anyone have any idea for Swype?
Thanks again.
You can download the Swype beta from their website. It works quite nicely on ICS now. There are a few steps required to get Swype up and running, including creating an account on their website, downloading an installer, then the installer downloads and installs the Swype app. But it's worth it, IMO.
I've never used a security suite for my Android devices. Just be judicious in which apps you install.
If you don't mind paying a few bucks for an advanced PDF reader/annotator, consider ezPDF or RepliGo.
Step 4. Determine wherever its faulty or not BEFORE your return to retailer window expires, and never, ever rma it, well obviously unless you are past return window and something fails.
Step 5. Hopefully its all clear, and you can start enjoying it.

The default Asus software keyboard is swype-like, in that you can slide from one letter to the next. Kind of swype-lite.
If you decide to root and unlock, Read this, very important:

Best thing to do is just stay away from this forum and enjoy your tablet.
Hello again,
Thanks for the msgs (and yes, I'm enjoying this tablet)
Btw, I checked the firmware version: On the TF Prime it says, "IML74K.WW_epad-9.4.2.15-20120221"
and on the Asus website, in the support section for TF Prime, I see "Version V9.4.2.15(WW)" - Is this the one I should be looking at?
Also, As you can see, the version is the same but the dates are different: The one on the Asus website has "2012.02.29 update" where as the system has "20120221"... So should I just leave it as it is or should I update to the new firmware?
I got Swype beta downloaded / installed and its working fine. BT and Wifi are working great as well...
PS., I noticed that, for some reason, when connected to my PC (at work, Win 7 x64, home premium) through USB, it doesn't charge (it charges when I connected to my laptop, Win 7 x86, Ultimate)... Why so?
PPS., Another issue (and yes, I did search and read some threads on a similar issue - notifications do not clear out even after downloading / installing an app!! Is there any way to clear it? For instance, on my SGS2 phone, there is this 'clear' option... but I don't see any such option with the TF Prime. Is there any way to clear those notifications?
Cheers..
The good news - Instagram for Android is out today. The bad news - shows as incompatible with the Prime
Any way to get around that?
Download it on your phone and if you can use TiBu on your phone to back it up (root required), then copy the .apk backup to your prime; you can install the app. Couldn't tell you if it works, but that's how I move apps from my phone to tablet when I see that incompatibility message.

Yeah, works fine so it seems... I just transferred the apk from thr /data/app folder to my prime and installed it. Haven't logged in yet but installed and opened fine.
Just download the .apk online, it is funny they are listing it as incompatible because it seems to be tablet optimized.

+1. Having the same issue with my prime...but works flawlessly on my SexyGnexy.
Strange issue with Instagram.. I am unable to update/refresh stream over wifi on my TFP or my phone.. If I turn off wifi on my Epic Touch and use 3g or 4g it will refresh. Its just wifi thats giving me the issue, so its useless on TFP right now..
there was another update for the app. hopefully it added fixes and will be prime compatible soon.

Not sure how it shows for you but it doesn't for me.
Even their FAQ says:
Tablets with NVIDIA Tegra 3 graphics chips, including the Asus Transformer Prime, are not supported at this time. We're currently investigating this issue.
Please note that only tablets with support for OpenGL ES 2, with the exception of tablets with the graphics chips mentioned above, are capable of running Instagram at this time.

Tearing
Anyone else getting tearing after taking a picture?
Just showed as available on Play... installed and off to test...

All,
This is an odd one and maybe not transformer specific, however I dont see the issue on my HTC Sensation so thought I would check here if others have seen the issue.
I am running the latest Google Play on the transformer prime (3.5.16) the same as my phone. I am connected via Wi-Fi with both devices to my home internet router and a run the simple search "BT" on both devices.
The phone returns 3 results including the BTFon app I wanted. And the Transformer prime only returns 1 result.
If I serach via the online web market for the app I can get to the page an install it without an issue, it just seems the search does not return the results.
The only thing I can think is that I purchased the transformer prime in Canada but have it set up for UK use. The phone from a UK retailer.
So my question is does Google Play filter results based on the device origin some how?
Not the biggest issue, but intereted to understand.
Peter
That means it is not available for the Transformer Prime.

This. To clarify, developers can select what model devices and what operating systems their app is compatible with, and can exclude devices on that basis as well.
Maybe the apps are not "tablet-ified"
Thanks for the feedback. I guess you might be right as the apps I am thinking of are scaled up and phone apps. As I say I can still get them so they are not blocked and do work so it seems odd.
Never mind, not worth loosing sleep over!

You could always side-load it onto your Prime, but the previous comments are correct: it's considered incompatible with the Prime until the developer updates.
I am either returning my Prime today or trading it for another (one more time). I have had to exchange at best buy a couple of times due to the horrible screen tearing on the first one in gallery, camera and several other apps. Second prime the bottom of the screen died in less than 3 days and would never come back. Factory reset/ cold boot/ soft boot/ you name it. So now im on my third prime and i am still getting artifacts on my home screen and other apps. I have done the whole factory rest, install from sd, cold boot, soft boot, and nothing will stop this dang artifacting. Is this a common problem with the prime and i should expect it from ALL primes, or am i a victim of bad luck and should try another prime? If the majority has issues with this, i am returning it, but if the majority never experiences it i would love to exchange it and get a good working tab that i can keep. Not to keen on anything else until the S4 Krait hits tabs.
thanks for as many replies as possible as i hope to get a good number of responses so i can determine if its a flaw in all primes or just the ones i have had the fortune of using.
Thanks for your time!
Edit, here is a test that anyone with the app can try and reproduce.
C4 Here and have them happen sporadically and easily produced in several apps and launcher. Beautiful widgets is the easiest. I have been wanting someone to test this but haven't had any luck. Just set the beautiful widget forecast (last widget in the list of BW's) on any screen. tap the widget to access the animated graphics. If you location does not have the moving clouds change it to San Diego as it has been cloudy here for a couple of weeks. While the clouds are moving click either the clock or the recent apps button and usually within seconds you will start getting severe artifacts. I have been able to reproduce this on every prime i have gotten my hands on. I also get screen tearing/flickering in androbench pretty regularly but it is different than the artifact. My first prime, before i had it replaced suffered horribly from the left hand side of the screen turning static in camera and other apps. After that replacement my prime and those i have access to suffer the artifacts on .28 in several apps. Someone please try the BW scenario to a tee and give it about 30 seconds at most and see if you receive the artifacts.
I can't blame the BW app though as i have it happen more randomly in several apps, its just that i can reproduce it easily with the BW animation.
Added a poll just for stats.

mine stopped for now. ever since I did a manual reinstallation of the firmware & did a full wipe, only saw it 2 times on random occasions. Gone after a reboot.
p/s : b4 reinstallation & wipe, reboot wouldnt solve a thing. the damn problem sticks around

Thanks! That is exactly what i am after, just some confirmation that it is a wide spread issue. I hate being picky, but my unit gets them pretty bad and i am holding out hopes that this doesn't affect all primes. Im gonna update the OP with a test if anyone else that reads this can try. It almost always forces screen artifacts that can't be reproduced on any of my other ICS tabs or phones.
Thanks again!
Also, i did the whole factory reset, installed via sd, hard boot, soft boot, and nothing gets rid of them...

This issue is a Graphics Driver Issue (I'm 99% Sure). It was almost gone in .21 (I never had it). The graphic drivers was cleaned up in this latest patch, and after that some users have been having this issue.
It's just a buggy driver / incompatibility with some apps.

not really. I had it maybe once or twice. it was either from an update or overclocking. the home screen icon and recent apps looked like it was glitching. I rebooted the prime n never seen it again. I wouldn't call that a display issue. Only a 1 time thing. never had anything like you described where bottom of screen or whatever died out on me.
Overall, I've been very satisfied with my prime display. its been performing fine for me. very responsive.

That gives me hope, I wonder if i should try replacing the one i have once more. The screen tearing is the only think keeping this from being a perfect pad for me. I get the tearing in androbench, my home screen, weather forecast and even when unlocking my prime. Also, after following your recommendations on improving performance, all i can say is wow, made it a new machine (-minus the screen artifacts that have always been there even on .21.) So, in your opinion, do you think i have a lemon and my problem is specific to my prime and should replace it? or do you think this is a common problem and should just return it?
Was very curious and decided to check it myself, but sorry mate, I wasn't able to reproduce it on beautifull widget. DO you have another app I could try to reproduce the issue ?

I have the same problem with Apex Launcher the left side of the screen starts to glitch and the only solution is to restart. It goes away for some time but after a while it comes back. I figured it's a software issue and just stopped using apex launcher. I'm curious if the problem is still there with some of the non-stock roms, but if it's the graphics driver I presume it's there ... Let's hope that with the next update things are going to be better.

The cheap solution when using Apex is to just rotate the screen, scroll and rotate it back... it will get rid of it

It only does it for me if the weather forecast is cloudy.( which it has been here lately) lol. Change your location to Miami or San Diego as they are having some bad/cloudy weather. Once you have a location set with "mostly cloudy" conditions, watch how choppy the clouds move when you click on the widget for the forecast. While the clouds are scrolling, open settings by clicking the clock in the lower corner, let it expand, and just wait. Within seconds my screen will start artifacting all over the place.
Also, thanks and thanked!
Have a BCOKA unit purchased in Dec 2011 (received in Jan) and have never experienced any sort of screen artifacts or tearing. BW weather forecast screen has been showing clouds flowing across the screen for 15 minutes now and still going smoothly.
I've never had tearing or artifacts and I have an old Prime (BCOKAS arrive Dec. 27th, 2011).
I did have all the blacks on my screen turn red (search for my thread) and had to RMA for that to get fixed but it turned out to be a hardware problem and Asus replaced my main board. I don't think this is a problemwith all Primes though. Maybe you'll get a better one this time. Good luck man.
The screen tearing is not the Prime's hardware - it's Asus and their incompetence in putting out decent firmwares. I can just about guarantee this is the situation. I had my Prime since launch. It had terrible screen tearing when I first got it. One of their early firmware updates just about completely solved the issue, and it was working great all the way through .21. Then, as soon as I installed the .28 update, the screen tearing and artifacting came back again. So like I said, it's definitely not a faulty prime (hardware wise). I'd suggest either keeping your Prime and waiting for an update that fixes this, or just returning it and getting another tablet.
As for some of the other issues caused by Asus using a garbage LCD, such as LCD mura (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1550530), screen bleeding, and dead/stuck pixels, that's another story.

I tried your BW test. the animations look and move great on my prime. I let it sit and no screen artifacts turned up. I did see in the options for BW that it said animations were an experimental feature and could cause possible issues. but none on mines though.
as for your situation, I'm not sure. I would say try exchanging again. but I'm starting to think if its maybe an app or combo of apps you have that's causing this. so this happens randomly, no matter what you are doing or app you're using? or is this only occurring when using certain apps or whatever? its kinda sounding like its your apps. did your prime do this immediately out the box brand new? or did this only start occurring after you installed certain apps or Widgets?
just curious, you don't have force gpu on in developer options, do you? that has caused similar issues before.
like previous poster said, I think this is a software issue. which will be solved through an update. maybe even try a manual install of update through Asus website. its a more thorough install.
After .28 I had some of this but none since words with friends put out the update. No doubt a combination of running processes, video drivers and in my case ezoverclock.
Not all Prime have this issue... however, there are enough that DO have this issue.
Just return the device.... don't decide based on what the "future" update will do.. or hopefully will do.
Don't even bother taking a chance.

Glad you are helping so here are the steps i have taken. I do a lot of research before i post as to limit the amount of time i need to take up. I too thought the app was an incompatibility until i went through the process of removing and formatting my SD card and placing the update zip from ASUS. Booted into what i would call bootloader and factory reset my prime. Once booted, i inserted the sdcard and the went through the upgrade process. Once done i skipped login and allowed the system to settle and then did a hard reboot followed by a soft reboot. I then choose to not restore my apps and only downloaded the BW widget. once opened and set to a location where it was cloudy, clicked the settings launcher and expanded by clicking the clock, which left the animation in the background and within 10- 15 seconds the artifacts became worse and worse. Entire sections of the screen would turn white or green for a split second. I removed the app and downloaded other apps one at a time and found that i would get the same flicker/glitch when using androbench. Also had and issue, when using the gallery, that the screen started scrolling white horizontal lines and slowed to a halt before rebooting. I recently had to travel to San Diego for a week, (poor me) and had my girlfriend go by BB and outright buy another tablet and as i couldn't trust the one i had and figured i would return whichever one worked (Money isn't an issue, just want this prime's display to behave.) Well, as soon as i unboxed it, logged in, allowed it to update, downloaded BW as a test and guess what, same flicker. Granted neither of these had the issues the first two Primes i had to exchange had, when half or most of the screen either went to static or completely quit responding/working.
Now to the interesting part. Both Primes in my possession when i returned home i could test further. I went through the same process of manually wiping, wiping, updating, HB/SB, FR yada yada and only installed the BW app and both Primes behaved the exact same way. As soon as i would expand the recent apps or settings overlay the screen would start to produce odd geometric shapes and would continue every few seconds (the flash is noticeable but quick). Now some good news. The prime i currently have was kept for a few reasons. THE GPS WORKS WELL!!! I have no issues with WIFI, 3/4 bars from70 ft connected to a Cisco 1262. Streaming Netflix with a set of slim JB Bluetooth headsets is a breeze. All of my games (Nova 3, Adrenaline6, Gun Bros, and multiple others play wonderfully and i can honestly say i have never had a game reset/ act funny/ or ANR. My browser would occasionally ANR but it wasn't too bad. The Prime i bought in San Diego would not get a gps signal sitting beside the prime i kept that was getting 10 satellites. Wifi on one prime was -84 in a location that my current prime gets a -66 with a 72Mbps connection. Games would force close on the other prime, Browser would just randomly close. SOD EVERY MORNING. So needless to say i returned it and kept the current one i have. I have tested all i know to test, and no, i don't have force gpu ticked. I have worked with Android for a while and have a Xoom running EOS that doesn't suffer any of the mentioned problems. (one heck of a tablet i might add). But as someone who travels a lot, and the work i do, this can be my laptop replacement.
So all in all i have a tablet that works wonderfully in every area except the fact that it will (at will) artifact/tear using BW animation. It will randomly artifact using Androbench, gallery, camera, quadrant, and both stock launcher and apex pro. Last and notable thing is it seems to do it less if i set the brightness to a static level, say 50%. All of this happens/ bone stock/ root/ no root. Currently running root with your build.prop, the atp app, and sio and this guy is rocking a lot better in the user experience (I/O)
Sorry for the rant, just giving all the info i have. No noob here and wish i could just unlock it and dive into it but cant do it as i don't know if it is hardware.
Thanks for all of the opinions and as soon as my thanking well replenishes i will thank those that i missed!

Bro, i know you have told me that and my gut says that what i should do as i have kinda been asking this same question in some of the other threads. Thought i would quit hi-jacking and create a post to just see how wide spread this is. I mean dang, i am on my 4th prim in exactly 30 days and only one of them functioned above 75 percent of expected performance. So scared that if i replace it again, i will be out of a 499 tablet as i will likely target practice with it with my 45. lol. Seriously though, i believe you got it right, too many of them have this problem. Sucky thing is i can seem to find an alternative that has what a really want, an S4 krait or a exynos quad and the same docking alternative that the prime has.
So you think there are primes out there that wouldn't have the screen issues i am having? I know i don't think anyone has said they have never experienced it.
Was this a problem when it was on GingerBread?
Thanks,
