Playing Amazon Video on Prime - Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime

I want to download videos from Amazon to view when I don't have wifi access. I used Amazon unbox and downloaded the wmv file. The file plays just fine on my desktop computer, but won't play on the Prime...even though other (non-Amazon) wmv files will play). I tried Dice Player, BS Player and MX player...none would play the wmv file even though they support the format. I tried to find a program to convert the wmv to MP4 format using VLC Media Player, but it won't even play the video, let alone convert it. When I try to play, I just get splotches of color. I also tried other video converters like HandBrake...none would work. Either they wouldn't recognize the video or they just produced the splotches of color output. I did find DRM Media Converter which will convert the video to MP4 and that will play on the Prime, but the downside is it costs about $40. Before I buy the program, I was wondering if anyone has found a FREE video converter that will convert Amazon videos?? Or is there a video player app that will play Amazon wmv files without conversion?? Thanks

I'd also love to know this one. Amazon Prime would be a nice replacement for not being able to watch Google Play movies with a rooted device...

This is most likely because of the DRM that Amazon is required to implement in order to offer the media electronically.

Bump--anyone tried this, and if so did it work?

Can the Flyer play high-profile .mkv movies?

Can the Flyer play high-profile .mkv movies?
Also, can you transfer a 5-8 GB movie file to the Flyer and play it flawlessly?
The Playbook does NFTS storage so you can play 6 - 8 GB movie files. I don't know if the Flyer can do NFTS or not.
you mean, you'd like to know if you can format your SD card as a NTFS drive, and copy large video files on it?
No it won't play. I tried loading 720 mkv and it doesn't play. But the SD card is supported.
I tried to with an app downloaded from the market, it does play with sounds, but the picture is not that great.
I am using Plex to play all my videos (all file types including mkv). Plex re-encodes on the fly, saving you from having to re-encode your video for your specific device.
When I had my Transformer, I was not happy with the quality of the video. But on the Flyer's 7" screen its acceptable.
I need to set up a remote server so I can watch my vids remotely away from home.

:O i'm gonna try it, thanks for the info
Using Plex Remotely
Using this guide below, I was able to remotely access my Plex Media Server with my Flyer tethered to my HTC Thunderbolt.
http://wiki.plexapp.com/index.php/Plex_Android#Enabling_Android_from_outside_of_your_home_network
Of note: To test your remote connection, make sure your Flyer is not connected to your home wifi network. In my case I tethered my Flyer to my Thunderbolt.
It works beautifully I might add.

I've read the vplayer and rockplayer should support MKVs. Supposedly you can get a cable for 1080p HDMI playback on an external source. I have not tried any of the above.

Maybe you can connect in 1080p but from what I've read the chipset does not support 1080p video decoding.
vplayer and rockplayer would not play back 720p mkvs for me. it would play 720p avi.
I cant remember which one it was, but one of the video players i tried would play them back on "software decoding" (as opposed to "hardware decoding"), but it didn't look good.
Try Moboplayer. It plays back 720p mkvs for me. Its not super smooth but its the lowest frame drops i've seen.

Which video format does best work in NOOK tab?
I have tested sideloaded MKV from SDcard and found out it doesn't support at all though official site said it was supported.
Any suggestion for Converter and format???
NB: it's my first Android device..
Are you sure? Because mx video player and the stock player play my .mkv files fine
The stock media player is kind of terrible and doesn't support some (nonstandard) codecs (what was your mkv file encoded in? - i.e. what's inside the .mkv?). Definitely grab MX player and use that - either root the device+grab it from market, or download it, stick it onto your card/internal memory and install it through there. If it doesn't work in MX player then make sure it's not a corrupt file and that it plays on your pc.
Converter please
I convert my video files with quick media converter.. what i want to know is which converter best suit for NOOK standard? I also converted some files to mp4.. some worked. but some didn't..there are a lot of mp4 version to choose.
Thanks.. I will try to install MX player on my NOOK
I use WinX DVD Ripper (vendor is Digiarty) and rip in iPad mode so that I can watch on my Nook or my iPad. The format is .mp4 and they've worked on my Nook Color and Nook Tablet straight from the beginning with no tweaking on the stock video viewer, Mobo Player and mVideo player.
The newer versions of WinX DVD Ripper have an output format specifically for Android tablets but I haven't even messed with it because iPad format works fine for me.
I've seen posts where people have had success using HandBrake too but I've never personally used it...
I use handbrake. But usally mx player works fine

Handbrakeor Super should work perfectly for this purpose. They both are a little full-featured so read a guide before using them -- if you're not experienced in working with multimedia files.
Otherwise, Windows Media Encoder is a very user-friendly and efficient way to convert your videos to a given playback dimension.

Make sure to install the codec apk. It's not included with the download of the player.
MX Video Player Codec [Armv7]
It doesn't ask for the codec when you run MXV for the first time. Once you install the codec, all supported formats will play...
no need
Save yourself hours of time, you don't need to re-encode video if you install MX player.
Convert them to MP4 format, then you can play them freely.

[Q] Can you please show me how to play movies on GTab?

Okay guys, lets say I want to store my movies on a 32gb USB flash drive, I have the USB attachment for the tab.
Now, exactly how do I convert wmv movies (in the 2.5 GB range, downloaded from Amazon videos) to mp4 or a file that will actually play on the tab?
As in what settings should I use, I have BS Player and Dice Player installed.
Thanks.
You can just try them with bsplayer or dice player, most of them work fine (if they're 720p or lower).
For converting, have a look at this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=20736368&postcount=18
Are those amazon videos DRM free so that they can actually be converted?
Okay I'll give it a try.
Yes they are DRM, as far as I'm aware. Reading how to get rid of that now.
ETA: Okay I bought downloaded Aimersoft Video Converter Ultimate, which pretty much does it all and will remove the DRM.

well i would suggest the video/movie player called mx video player, it will ask to download a armv6 update for the galaxy tab...which u need to do, then it supports tegra 2 hardware accelerated decoding...its great, as for decoding, i use the program any video convertor, in windows
Get moboplayer; it is free and has played every movie I have copied to my tab. It will play mp4, avi, and everything else.
Hey all,
Used Aimersoft and used the pre setting for Ipad 2 to convert. Took about 2 hours for each movie (Fast Five, Thor, Conan) and also removed the DRM. Went from 2.5GB each to about 300-450 MB each. Just copied the mp4 files straight to my movies folder. BSPlayer plays them perfectly in fullscreen mode with no lag or audio sync issues.
Thanks for the help.

Is there a preferred file format for movies/video?

I've got quite a lot of movies and videos but some play better than others on my Android Tablet and some just don't play at all.
Does anybody know if there is a preferred file format for movies and videos because there are too many to choose from?
I just don't know which of the many options I should consider from AVI, Xvid, Divx, H.264 and any other flavour you can think of.
Cheers

Use mx video player x) no need to convert

If you want a format that any device will play including tv's with usb connectors, portable players as well as android devices then an avi video file with xvid compression and mpeg 3 audio is the most accepted and standard video format.
But if you just want videos on android then mx player should play pretty much anything.

I wish i was as simple as throwing MX Player at everything but sadly some MP4 file formats play so bad that I get around 8-11 frames per second. Some other MP4 file
s work perfectly.
AVI files work a treat however its a bit of a lottery with MP4 files as I cant work out what kind they are.
My computers can do the number crunching to mask this problem but my lowly ASUS Pad TF300T struggles at times.
I should point out that I'm streaming the movies from a NAS box at the moment. I haven't tried running some of these movies from the internal hard drive.

It could be the app your using to stream, I found some apps would stream pretty badly from my wireless hard drive.
Ideally you could play a problem file on your android from the device itself to check it plays fine and if it does you will probably have to convert to avi if they play better for streaming.
There are a couple of dlna apps you could try, can't recall the names as I watch videos via a usb stick on my tv now, but play store has a few. Alternatively if the app your using allows you to alter its buffer size you could increase it which would help.
If you have a windows pc you can install vlc media player and use it to see the codecs used in the problem videos. You may find they all have something in common maybe like ac3 audio. If so you can convert audio easily to something less processor intensive with pc freeware like virtualdubmod.

MKV and MP4 have much advanced features than AVI/TS files.
If you use Diceplayer , MKV is the best format.
multiple audio track / embeded subtiles / no problems on HTTP streaming
but Diceplayer plays most of files without transcoding.
Try switching to full software rendering (video+audio) in MX video player instead of hardware rendering to get rid of chopping and out of sync audio. It'll use more battery but I haven't had a video yet that it didn't play.

[Q] Is it possible to play a DVD off my laptop on my tablet without ripping?

Is it possible to play a DVD off my laptop on my tablet without ripping?
I’ve been trying to stream a DVD from my laptop to my Asus transformer tablet (running ICS 4.0.3), but so far couldn't find a way. I tried VLC for Windows + VLC Stream & Convert for Android combination, but there is no option to directly play a DVD, selecting individual VOB files wont work.
The only way I could manage to get the DVD video to play was to stream disk content though VLC's stream option, but this doesn’t allow any control over playback (Pause, FF, Rev etc..). I also tried setting up a DLNA server with Windows media player, but again there is no option to play a DVD , it can only share video files available on the local hard disk.
Now I'm beginning to think what I'm trying to do is not possible. Does anyone know how to do it ?
Looks like its not possible ??
For now I’m using splashtop HD remote desktop app, frame rate is not always good, but most movies are watchable, guess I'll have to use that till something better comes along.
is that a MPEG-PS VOB File ? then u can play the individual file by MX Player..
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mxtech.videoplayer.ad&hl=en
btw u can extract the movies from a dvd using the img file.. sometimes there are 2 movies in 1 vob file
if you still can not play it then send me a sample of the vob
regards
sim
