Battery Problem - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Since upgrading to ICS i have a problem with the battery.
Firstly, it drains a lot quicker. But worse than that, if i plug it in to charge the charging indicator comes on but the phone doesn't charge. I can leave it for several hours and battery percentage won't have increased at all and the phone is absolutely burning red hot! So now everytime i need to charge my phone i have to switch it off to charge it. This only happened the day i upgraded to ICS.
Anyone else had a similar problem?

FORUM RULES
1. Search before posting.
So presumably you can tell us.
Read http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1179809

I had searched several times and also found that thread. I searched within that 404 page thread for the word "hot" and the most recent post was January, before ics was available for the sgs2

Go back to GB

Use a bit of common sense. Why do you think it would get hot? Logically, two thoughts come to mind
1). Something is making the CPU/GPU operate at a high frequency - see my previous reply to find what.
2). Something is wrong with your hardware - contact Samsung.
There may well be further points, but it's a start for you.

I'd just like to counter by saying there's a lazy, ungrateful chap here.

As for the battery issue, you need a control to measure this against. Like someone mentioned earlier go back to GB, if the problem goes away then you can atleast be confident its to do with ICS. Are you on stock ICS (unrooted?), in which case you probably best getting in touch with manufacturer. If you've installed a custom rom etc, try reinstalling the rom

AAAaaw this thread had so much potential..... but it ended soon
if your on custom kernel or rom it could be kernel issue.
it could be a modem issue
so the answer remain go back to stock GB. no custom rom/kernel

Didn't like XXKG6?

Hmm, wondering if I'm the only one who didn't like kg6? Idk why it felt slower to me for some reason; not to mention the phone seemed to be getting hotter than when i was on KG3; disliked it and went back to KG3 in less than hour...

Just asking for opinions if people disliked it like i did, most of the other threads I've seen people are asking what the changes are.
If you don't like my thread you are welcome to not post. douchebag.

Or you could voice your opinion in one of the threads. Not create a completely useless new one.
And by calling me a ‘douchebag‘ you acknowledge I'm correct, otherwise why get so defensive.

Agreed. Threads like "2% less battery on KG6", "Is everyones internet faster on KG6", "Like the different volume notification on KG6" and such aren't really worth a whole new thread.
Xda isn't Facebook.. It's a forum. Your opinion does not deserve a new thread.

Some serious power trip issues on this site!
My experience on KG6 through litening ROM 5.0 is very good. I think it's the best so far. Yet, I have no comment yet on battery life as I keep using the phone yesterday. I will try to use my phone like a normal day and see whether the battery life is comparable to the KG3.
For me the phone does indeed get hotter alot faster, a few lag and the battery life seems to have gone worse over KG3.
ROM: DarkyROM2 KG6 Base
Kernel: Nit 2.0.4

Im hoping they will resolve this as I can't be bothered to downgrade

"Battery problem with xboarder's bulletproof" cannot be anymore specific but yeah lets open new threads and become famous to the op, might be smarter asking where bulletproof belongs, that way you might get more feedback from bulletproof's users. As it regards ur concern, just deactivate automatic sync of social networks and ur battery life will be back to normal. Nothing to do with kernels
before this turns into a flame war...not everyone is able to post in the development section especially if they are new...the question belongs here since we do not have a Q/A section.
Let's get back to the topic. to the OP: can you be more specific about what is going on with your battery? 1 percent when screen is off or screen is on???
You could recalibrate your battery. Charge to 100 then go to recovery and wipe the battery stay, then unplug and drain the battery completely. After another full charge, battery life should improve.
Sent from my HTC Amaze 4G using XDA App
I've noticed a little extra drain myself, but then again i haven't charged the device to 100% yet since flashing... Haven't been concerned about though.
Overall still a wonderful rom, thank you xboarder

The draining is from that the power manager can't step down the cpu. There is a process that is interfering with the power manager.
I have not had such problems. My battery lasts around 14-16 hours with normal to heavy use. That is with wifi on all the time, calls, some games, and lots of trolling around the Internet. Did you flash the kernel that is included in the zip file? And if so are you over clocked? Like someone else already said, calibrate your battery. There is an app for it in the market that make it idiot proof.
Just get the kernel from an older version and system tuner under clock it. Or try another rom fourth bar ics theme been good for me

Please do yourself a favor and do some research before you even think about doing what you are thinking about doing.
Once you start reading and ask relevant questions, people will answer you better. Even if you haven't tried it yet, and you ask questions that occur only after having read about it, people will start pointing you in the right direction.

KH7 and KK6 are basically the same and run fine everywhere except the Loop and O'Hare, where the data doesn't work at all.
I recently tried out LC5 by accident and it turns out that works great in O'Hare and the Loop, but is very spotty everywhere else. I should probably go through the others but that would require a free weekday in the Loop.

Btw, the person who posted the kernel tests thread, #1, that thread is I9100 and our I777s are different, #2, each person's I777 is different and reacts to different kernels differently, so that thread is practically useless to us.

[Q] Can't enable NFC

I just received 2 batteries for the I-777 that I bought on eBay. However, they do not have NFC. For the hell of it, I double checked and tried turning on NFC in the settings and it said "error occurred". So I'm like yeah okay, figures. So I pop in the original battery (NFC capable) I was using and tried turning it on, and it was still not working. I'm on ICScrewed 2.1 with Siyah's last up-to-date GB kernel. Re-flashing didn't work. Help?
Stuff I've tried:
Wiping/Re-flashing
Back to stock, re-rooting, reflashing (was sure this would have fixed it...)

Keep searching, Google, xda forums, everywhere. Sometimes the answers are in obscure places. It's a pain in the ass, especially xda's search function, but it's worth the time. Keep kissing ass to your friends. Phalanx doesn't help. Look at his answer. Absolutely nothing to do with the OP. Instead, he's insulting me by saying I haven't searched, when I have. Not to mention, he does that in every thread I made. I'm pretty sure such behavior is trolling.
Anyway, like I said. I did search. All people have said is: pull battery out and put it back in, reflash (wiping of course too), and going back to complete stock and re-rooting and flashing. None of those have worked. See, you people assume I haven't searched, but I have...
Apparently, there was a flashable zip to fix this, but it was for a different phone when I was looking on Google.
All I can say is include everything you've tried in the OP. If you come across anything, make an update in the thread or an edit to the post, whichever is easier for you.
It took 2 people asking a question to get that you had tried two other possible fixes and they failed. Do you go to the doctor and tell him your head hurts but leave out the part where you damn near knocked yourself out working under the sink? No, you tell him everything you can think if that may have caused the issue in the first place.
No trolling, no judgment and for damn sure no kissing ass (see the thread where I pissed of Shoman). Just a normal guy trying to help ya out a bit.

Messaging

Hi there
I am struggling to find some info regarding the stock messaging app. Does this app lag scrolling up and down through conversations? This is the problem I have, you can see the screen tearing while you scroll slowly up and down, which is horrible and no matter if I try to do a factory reset (using kies or flashing firmware with odin) the issue will not get fixed. I think Jellybean has broken this app.
Does everyone think the same? I am 90 percent sure that this did not happen on ICS? please heeelllpp

I do agree that the ICS messaging works faster than that of JB's. It is a stock thing, so I believe there is no fix yet? Tsk
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
So you did notice the ics app faster and smoother. I was really confused because there were 2 updates and I couldn't find out which one messed it up. I don't think there is a fix yet. I only asked Samsung and they told me to call the S3 support but I didn't.
I do believe there are going to be more updates for the S3 even another version of Android which hopefully will fix it. I did ask a few people but theu said their messaging app worked fine but I think they didn't notice what I meant or they wouldn't care too much.
You can install jkays framework on stock odexed Rom and then with his deluxe settings app (paid) you can lock dialler and contacts in memory,.......regarding the tearing whilst scrolling, this nearly always happens when you have an accumulation of too many messages I keep my inbox pretty clean and never experience any tearing

Yeah whatever..you have done your job won a trophy and all. That's what moderators are here for. If you don't have anything useful to post then don't post your trolling messages.
Slaphead: I am talking about a few mesaages not a huge list; I have tried a lot of things which will never work. Unfortunately have to live with it until Samsung releases an update I think they must be aware of this? I wonder if any of the developers around here knows what is the issue and if anyone has implemented a fix on any other roms.
Try this...go developer options and check "force gpu rendering"
and that's why xda is the way it is..noobs don't read the rules
